Lynn is up! Walking around. Not so happy about it. 2 weeks on your back might *sound* like a vacation to many mother's out there, but its not so much fun after a while.

2nd day of recovering from the implant of her Defib/Pacemaker. During the operation, at the last minute, they installed a second pair of leads to the bottom of her heart.

This unit is an amazing piece of tech, folks. Lasts 8 years, 5 if it is doing a lot of defib work. The second pair of leads not only allows it to defib, but also as a pacemaker.

Today they came in, hooked up the monitor to the actual pacemaker/defib unit (its external, and communicates over phone lines, believe it or not). They found that Lynn's implant is doing wonderous and amazing things. Weird things. things they didn't expect. Keep in mind that they were initially going to install a defib (think the paddles on "ER": CLEAR!!!!). Only at the last minute did they install the pacemaker functionality.

What they have found is that the pacemaker function is quite busy, numerically speaking. It is making micro adjustments to her heartbeat all the time. Little, teeny tiny adjustments, that weren't medically *necessary*, but have the effect of making the old ticker regular as a the trains of switzerland.

She *feels* her heart. This is weird to her. Essentially, she got used to the feeling of her old beats, and now she is having to get used to the feeling of her *new* sinus waves. 'this is frankly freaking her out a bit, as she watches her chest beat heartily in the manner most of us take for granted.

So today she sat in her chair for quite a while, and tonight, her biggest complaint was her tummy (kinda funny food they serve for a hospital...all pre-packaged and such). Oh, and the pain in her shoulder from the implant. They used staples, I am afraid, not cytemic glue (superglue). Not sure *why*, but I will ask that tomorrow.

all in all a good day. I am looking forward to many more Smiling

Here's to medical technology: Blessings on all those who dream it, design it, build it, install it, monitor it...and more for all who use it, wear it, heal around it, marvel at it and possibly are mystified by it Eye-wink

I am so much more than pleased to read such GOOD news!

Love ya, Lynn! Hugs to you JJ, and to the girls.
Blessings,
Lenora

Her heart is now probably better than ever! Glad she is doing good. If she is complaining, she is recovering LOL!

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would have been in agony if we'd had to wait till Lynn was well enough to update us herself. Much appreciated, and so glad you've finally got some good news to share.

Kerri.
