Most School Sales of Soda to End

Yay! The nation's largest beverage distributors have agreed to stop selling soft drinks in public schools:

The agreement was announced Wednesday by the William J. Clinton Foundation and will also likely apply to many private and parochial schools.

"This is a bold step forward in the struggle to help 35 million young people lead healthier lives," former President Clinton said at a news conference. "This one policy can add years and years and years to the lives of a very large number of young people."

Under the agreement, the companies also have agreed to sell only water, unsweetened juice and low-fat milks to elementary and middle schools. Diet sodas would be sold only to high schools.

Kids drink way too much soda at home; they shouldn't be getting it at school too. There's nothing good about a regular diet of soda, diet or otherwise.

I hope they don't stop it

I hope they don't stop it here. I like to go in the mornings when I'm dropping my kids off and buy one to get my coke fix, and the money goes to our school's athletics and FFA (future farmers of America). I guess the bottled water machine, Poweraid and the new dairy one will have to do the same thing and I'll just get my fix at home. LOL!

But you're right, the bottled water and Poweraid will do the same thing.

If you don't need it cold, you could keep a 24-pack of coke in the car. DH used to do that until he stopped drinking soda.

I could buy a coke at school to help out the school. I have cases of it at the house for me anytime. I just like to help the school out.

And for the record, I seldom give my kids cokes at home. Usually just when we go out to eat somewhere (or if we happen to be in town during Happy Hour at Sonic!).
