She Looks Sweet Upon the Seat

It's a bicycle built for one, but Josie can ride it. Smiling

Less than a week ago, she was whinging, "Moooommm, I can't riiiiiide a bike!" when we'd go out and practice balancing. We didn't do training wheels, which turned out to be wise. A couple of weekends with her dad and a few sessions with me holding the front wheel between my knees while she balanced and she caught on pretty quickly.

The first day she could really ride she and her dad rode to the grocery store together. Last night all four of us--Lou on the trail-a-bike behind Daddy and the rest of us on two-wheelers--to sushi to celebrate a small but significant raise John got this week.

Jo did great! but Mama got a little misty watching her little helmet go down the street with her dad to the grocery store. My oldest is riding a bike! sob!

...those bits of freedom sting a bit, though, don't they? Even when we glady facilitate/grant them!

I've been working a bit with my oldest on driving the car! GULP! She's timid about it though, and only wants a few minutes at a time. I'm very happy to go slow and easy, too!

Blessings,
Lenora

Isn't it amazing! Both DD8

Isn't it amazing! Both DD8 and DD6 ride without training wheels, DS3 still has them but is getting really good at riding. DD8 also drives the 4-wheeler around by herself (meaning, around outside with us watching, not down the road or out in the pasture alone).

It's astonishing to think that these kids are doing this already! But then again, I think that when I was that age, I was riding around on my bike unsupervised all over the place. And when DH was 9, he was plowing on the big tractor by himself (and driving the LTD out to the field to get there!!). OMG, I can't think about DD8 doing that anytime soon!! LOL!

Too bad I forgot how to ride a bike. I tore around the neighborhood on my bike (no training wheels) from ages 8-10, didn't ride for a few months after I turned 11, and got back on to discover that I couldn't do it any more. Kept falling, over and over. When I was 15 I tried again, with a friend coaching me, for several hours-- no dice. Someday I might manage to learn again, although adult bikes intimidate me (all those gears, it's like a stick shift). I also forgot how to swim between the summer I was 7 and the summer I was 8, but I managed to re-learn that one.
