Lynn- spam? not spam?

Lynn, several of us have had our posts shut out of the dinner thread today for what it says is "potential spam." The last time I posted something that was flagged as "potential spam," a few weeks ago, it was never posted; which I guess means you reviewed it and decided it did break some rules or something, although I'd have no idea what. And I am absolutely sure that I did not break any rules with my last post. I am going to e-mail you what the post was, since I can't post it here obviously! I tried re-wording it and that did not help.

Not you. Or me. It's an automatic program; it's hit several people and I'm not entirely sure. It wasn't personal, jst know that.

suggestions as to how to post without triggering the program?

As I e-mailed to you, my post concerned some exciting news for my DH which I'd really like to share.

I didn't see a post from you when I went through the spam filter last night; everything is "caught", not discarded, unless I specifically set things/people to be discarded and I haven't done that to you. Smiling

Usually if I find something in the spam filter that's not supposed to be there it's because someone accidentally double-posted and the filter has decided to flag your material until further notice. (Yes, it does this on its own.)

So short version: Submit it. If it doesn't go through, I'll catch it.

Okay.... As I said in my original post above, this happened before and was never posted. I went back and checked and it was in the "one room at a time" thread on February 20th; there is my post about "I was flagged as spam pending Lynn's review" but the post that had been flagged never was posted. So I figured you must have not gotten to reading it yet a month later; I know you get overwhelmed with e-mail. But now you are telling me that you review the potential spam every night. So what happened the night of February 20th? Was my post at that time not caught, just as with last night? Yesterday I tried to post the same post to the dinner thread and to the Flybabies thread, and apparently the program must have discarded BOTH posts if you didn't see it. Could there be some sort of a bug? Should I use something other than Safari?

Any ideas?

only thing I can think of

Submitted by Lynn on Sat, 03/18/2006 - 7:36pm.

is that you had something about g*mbling or c*sin*s (I'm trying not to trip the filter) or ahem, mens enhancement products, which I doubt...

I did see that comment, the "I was flagged" one, but that was the only one I saw from you. Right when I saw this thread I checked the spam filter and saw nothing. If it were IP address based, you wouldn't have been able to post this or any of the comments.

So I'm at a loss, honestly.

And again

Submitted by Honey on Sun, 03/19/2006 - 3:51am.

Okay, just after I posted above I tried to post on the Taking Charge thread and it happened again. This has never happened to me before and now twice in a couple of days, seems weird.

I can't see anything my post that is at all 'dodgy'! The title was 'stairs' and this is what I posted -

'A boyfriend of mine had a town house and when I visited him, it drove me mad going up and down stairs all the time! One set of stairs is enough for any house, methinks Smiling

The kids are out today (DS and girlfriend). I managed to duck out of the birthday celebration. It was very short notice, and I so need the say indoors. I'm sure the kids will be happier without me there anyhow, gives them a bit of independence.

So, my plans for the day. My bath is run (with the Ma Bubble Bar from Lush. Divine!) and I am planning a nice soak. Then it's an all out assault on that darn bedroom.'

No mention of anything unmentionable Big grin

it just happened to me again on Taking Charge, so I tried to post here about it and it happened again.

never happened to me before, now three times in a couple of days. Something weird seems to be going on.

maybe an automatic update to the antispam program?

Submitted by Becky on Sun, 03/19/2006 - 6:59am.

With a bug to match?

My first flagged post (February 20) had no mention of any of those things. It mentioned the city where Katrina hit hardest, and also a city in Texas which is on the Gulf Coast.

The one from the other day was about DH getting his first roy*lties from a violin sonata he p*bl*shed, and how we ordered pizza to celebrate instead of eating corned beef.

this one was flagged too, so I'm removing some vowels

I think I know what the problem is. The common thread I've been able to find is...vacuuming! There is a trackback spammer that uses the term "vacuum cleaner" and I've been marking those as spam. So if you mention that, it's been throwing your comments in the spam box.

Now that doesn't mean you have to stop mentioning vacuums. The spam filter has Baynesian intelligence, which means it learns as it goes along. If I tell it enough times that when this person says "vacuum" it's spam but when that person says "vacuum" it's not, it will start figuring that into its decisions.

Short version: Hang tight and I'll check the spam filter more often while it learns.

It's something the trackback spammers have been using lately. "Vaca-tion" (no hyphen) has been a heavily used word, so that might have been one.

If we all switched to Firefox? I had the idea it was just individual bits of text, not the browsers.

but seriously folks... it does seem to have plugged a lot of holes for me, especially anything relating to security which is where IE is nothing but holes it seems, which in turn causes firewalls to go berserk and all security systems to go into overdrive, or so it seems.

Kerri.
