Sorry to hear about your day, Marlene. Sounds tough.

Not much happening around here. Worked a lot, talked on the phone a lot (gotta spread the homeschool news), dithered around, flipped through books.

I gotta start making a real TADA so that looks a little better for my benefit! Smiling

Thanks for starting the thread Heidi -- if you start it, they will come . . .

I'm home!

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 03/08/2006 - 7:20am.

Boy, am I home. And what a home! LOL! It is TRASHED! So today, I'm rolling up my sleeves and gettin' dirty.
PODA:
*laundry. Lots of laundry
*kitchen (oh my! Well, I tackled most of it last night. There was a sink full of pots and pans. if it didn't fit in the DW, it got put in the sink)
*unpack
*mail
*major pickup

Well, it's too long to put down everything. Let's just say it's horrible. But mission accomplished: I'm appreciated! DH said that if something happened to me that he would have to hire a nanny. LOL!

But being in my mom's neat as a pin house has motivated me, I hope.

Hello to you all!! I've missed you!

Time to get busy!

Welcome home, Jenny!

Submitted by Susannah on Wed, 03/08/2006 - 10:22am.

There is no way your house is as bad as mine. I'm not going into detail--too embarrassing. But I hope you get lots done today! Sounds like you had a nice trip!

Marlene, sorry to hear about your tough day, but you handled it with characteristic humor!

Little Ian had a shot today and he's not feeling well. Typing with baby draped across the chest is not easy. But at least he's calm this way.

TA DA:
*Up at 4:30 with fussy babe
*Got fussy babe to sleep and stayed up to make DH's breakfast and pack his lunch
*Got a bunch of copying/paperwork done
*Went to doctor's office. Please pray for our pediatrician, if you think of it. Her daughter was diagnosed with leukemia and she is out of the office for the next few weeks while her DD undergoes chemo.
*Went to store for milk, cheese and whatnot
*Went to bookstore (my former workplace!) to 3-hole punch some stuff; girls ran in the post office and mailed stuff for me.

We got packages from the children's auntie! They are thrilled with the contents (dinosaurs, play clay, barrettes, clothes, etc.) Lots of baby things. Smiling

Well, better go do what Jenny's doing. If Ian ever takes a nap, that is.

Love,

Susannah

Boy is it hard to keep up with you! No, no TADA list yet for today, though I've gotten a few things done. I confess I have been dinking around w/ my homeschool blog, which I started to have a place for family to check in with what's going on. Can't have them invading my TNH space for that! Laughing out loud

Hope the house is looking good Jenny!

We are planning a "Welcome Home" party for DD6 tomorrow, her last day of school (Friday everyone is off for some reason). What's on the menu? Turkey drumsticks! Like at a fair or Ren. Fest. I can't explain it: DD6, who sometimes asks whether her food was once living (to which we say, plant or animal, yes it was) loves the carnivorous joys of gnawing on a very living-thing-looking bone. Puzzled

Better keep moving -- lots of calls to make, e-mails to send, etc.

And hey, I have cute photos on my blog, which I hope I have properly linked to below!

*unpacked and suitcase put away
*various picking up throughout house
*break for PS2 with Chance (he watches, thinks he is playing!)
*fed baby numerous times (he is teething! strangest thing, a tooth is coming in, one of his molars first!)
*picked girls up from school (and a little girl in DD7s class gave me her mom's phone number so she can come spend the night. LOL!)
*also got my news for my school column in the paper and picked up the Lion's clubs mail at the PO
*cooked dinner AND cleaned kitchen
*kids picked up living room while I cleaned kitchen and dining room
*girls showered, boys bathed, girls in bed, Drew napping in swing, Chance watching Thomas the Tank Engine in my bed for a little while

Some resemblence of order is coming back. Stay tuned...

Hello

Hi everyone just wanted to introduce myself. Looks like you all know each other real well. This is my first time to do anything like this. This web site caught my eye because I am a stay at home mom. I have two sons Christian aged 10 and Mikey soon to be one year old. Worked full time on my first son so this staying at home is a whole new experience for me. Enjoying the majority of the experience but some days I have to be honest I would not mind going to work. So as I said just wanted to introduce myself bye for now. Talk soon.

Want to head out to my mom's in the next couple days and continue the decluttering with her. It took her forever to get that way so it will take awhile to climb out of it.

I was in a train wreck yesterday. No one was hurt as far as I know but I got home over an hour late. Thank heavens for the crockpot.

I have been doing a ton of studying and work and stuff at school. Not much Flying! We were going to have a guest tomorrow but he just cancelled. DH will be bummed when he gets home (he is out at the moment) but I'm relieved. It will give me a chance to concentrate on the neglected upstairs tomorrow-- I would otherwise have had to just do the downstairs.

Becky's picture

not as dramatic as it sounds

Submitted by Becky on Fri, 03/10/2006 - 7:27am.

The commuter train is an above-ground light rail. It was just pulling out of the station, going really slowly, and hit a pickup truck that apparently was ignoring the train signal and trying to plow on through the intersection (weirdo). As I said I don't think anyone was hurt, and where I was in the back I didn't feel any kind of impact, just felt the train stop. We had to wait an hour for the LAPD to clear us to go to the next station (which was walking distance away!) and let us off so we could catch the next train. Three other trains passed us by going in our direction while we waited and waited. After about 50 minutes a guy in my car who I guess was claustrophobic or something decided to pull the emergency cord. The doors opened, and he and about ten other people jumped out onto the street, into the intersection. I don't know where they went-- I guess maybe to the next station or back to the first one. Pretty soon after that the cops cleared us to get a move on!

I was stuck in a similar situation in the Tube in London a couple of times, and also in Manhattan, but those times it was only half an hour and we were told what was going on pretty quickly; plus it was always someone else's accident that was holding us up. The train conductor Wednesday night didn't feel the need to tell us anything, at all, for the first half hour and I was getting what information I had from passengers who were sitting closer to the windows than I was.

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 03/11/2006 - 12:46pm.

Moral of the story--don't get on a train or subway with Becky! LOL! Seriously, glad you are ok!

The past couple of days have been busy. DD8 went to her first sleepover last night and DD6 had a friend spend the night here. Everyone switched back this morning, got a couple things from Walmart, and signed the girls up for little league. Got roped into buying a couple boxes of Girl Scout cookies at Walmart, too. LOL!

Drew just nodded off to sleep, I've got the girls working on their room and Chance's (not together. Had a little meeting. I've been doing nice things for them with sleepovers, cookies, little league. Time for something nice for me!!). I've been picking up in my own room (can't yell at them for theirs with mine a disaster as well). I'm going to get back to it in just a minute!

Good Morning!

Submitted by Vonnie on Sun, 03/12/2006 - 5:35am.

Good morning, Flyfriends. I won't even attempt to get caught up on all I have not read. I can tell by the posts' lengths that everyone has been busy little bees!

In my little corner of the world, we are scraping and spitting and clawing to become debt-free. I read Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and am converted! We have three credit cards with almost equal balances on them (won't tell you how much! Eye-wink!). We are working to put extra on them until we get them all paid off. If we stick to our schedule, the last will pay off Sept. '07. If DH gets a decent team share this Dec., we can pay them off then.

What does this mean for our everyday life? Well, a drastic change in the frequency we eat out is the biggest one. I am cooking at home every day and actually loving it! I have always couponed, but I am doing it with a vengence now! I have joined several Yahoo! groups that are about saving $$ and also a Dave Ramsey group. I have made a new discovery, too. The CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens and K-Mart sales circulars have some great bargains and you can use manufacturer coupons to make them even better. I got $16.83 worth of stuff for $6 at Walgreens yesterday! I was pretty pleased.

But, we are cash poor until my payday on Friday. That's OK because all of our bills are paid as of right now. I am utilizing my credit union's FREE online banking feature and so I don't even have to write a check, hunt down an envelope and stamps. It's awesome!

My current project is container gardening. Our yard is too small for a garden, so I have planted several things in containers and I keep them on my deck. It's rather cool in a way because when we had 50+ mph wind gusts on Thursday, I just brought them all inside so they wouldn't get damaged in the storm. I have tomatoes (several of these), eggplant(2), peppers (4 in all of hot & sweet), cabbage (2), onions (6), lettuce (6) and strawberries (2). My herb garden on my kitchen window is doing well, too. I have thyme, basil, parsley, cilantro.

DD is playing t-ball this year, too. DH is the assistant coach & we are none too crazy about the head coach. She is very control freakish. Every breath, she is reminding us that she is the HEAD coach and Tim is just her helper. We found out that she doesn't have a child on the team! What is up with that? She wanted to have some of her friends come and help in the field at games, when we have several parents willing to help! DH told her that she needed to let these parents help, that it's their daughters out there playing. "Oh, yea. I guess that would be good" she says! Duh! It's gonna be a looooooooonnnnnnnngggggg season, I am afraid!

So, between ball, couponing and gardening, I am just trying to maintain. Not an easy task somedays! It seems like DH and DD conspire to work against my efforts sometimes! Shocked

My PODA for today:

* Get everyone up & ready for Sunday School and church
* Make a gallon of tea for our lunch
* Have lunch at home (I think hobo dinners and cornbread!)

"Maybe" on my PODA:

* Go to library to check out three videos I want to see
* Make muffins to take with me for b'fast this week
* Make a chocolate cake
* Walgreens and K Mart for sales items

I think there's a NASCAR race today, so my "maybe" list may get nixed!

Anyway, I gotta run. It's 7:30 and I need to start getting ready!

Talk to you gals later!

Good morning! Vonnie, way to

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 03/12/2006 - 7:37am.

Good morning!

Vonnie, way to go on the debt management. I need to read that!

Heidi, we are gearing up for a busy summer, too. Little league will be over by mid-June. There will be 2 weeks of swim lessons, a week of VBS, at least two camping trips, and a trip to Fla/Disney hopefully. AND dh is trying to sell his old truck and then buy a pontoon boat so we can go to the lake a few times. Oh yeah, gotta farm throughout the summer, too. LOL!

Andrea, a new hard drive already! sheesh!

Everyone had fun at their sleepovers. And the girls got their rooms cleaned reasonably well (DD6 did good on Chance's room. DD8, well, it COULD have been better). But we did get all of dd8's summer clothes tried on to see what we will need. Her shorts fit in the waist, but she is so long legged, they look too short anyway. I'm going to measure her today to see just how tall that girl is. LOL!

Decluttered a couple of places in my room (a bookshelf and the top of the gun cabinet). Wind is still blowing like mad. I'm about sick of this wind! DH is checking the sprinkler and wells, and has a music thing this afternoon. I'll tackle bills then.

Great to see you Marlene!

Vonnie - I am so excited for you and esp. for the day when you and your DH will ab out of debt! What a great feeling - freedom for sure. We have always tried to limit ourselves to eating out once a week, maybe twice if you count a lunch out. But that is one thing I have stuck to, even though I am back to working FT now.
