You and yours are in my prayers Jana, my hubby is an avid griller and he was really surprised to hear of the accident.

Prayers are doubled.

He will be in the hospital for 1-2 more days. They are keeping him in ICU, concerned about infection and just keeping him medicated. He is in no real danger from the burns. He did not inhale any of it and his neck just looks sunburned. His right side looks awful. His hand, knee and foot are pretty yucky looking. The left side faired a little better but is still pretty bad. He was kneeled down when it happened so that is why those areas and that side got the worst of it. He is VERY lucky. It was a flash from the inside of the pit as he was trying to light it. It was a large pit that you pull with your truck and one that he has used several times.

His spirits are good and he is staying pretty comfortable with the meds they have him on. They are bringing in a physical therapist tomorrow to work with him on some exercises he need to do so things don't get stiff. I have no idea when he will be able to return to work. The boys saw him tonight and handled it pretty well. And he survived his first cleaning of the wounds last night.

I think that is all I have for now. I am going to bed......and start over again tomorrow. Thank you for all your thought and prayers. I am very concerned about infection and while I have his family and my family all right here sometimes I do better writing this all instead of actually saying the words. I have been pretty overwhelmed lately and sometimes just talking gets to me so this is like therapy to me. Thank you all for being here.

Sounds like he is coming along. Glad the burns are not as bad as they could be, though still very painful I'm sure! I hope he will be home soon and life will be back to normal!

I know what you mean about the writing - it is therapeutic and cheap!! Write away girl!

if DH can sleep well that will surely help things along. He must be sore. You also need a good night's sleep, so I hope you have a little something mild if you think you're going to struggle. Not to knock you out so you on't hear a phone, but just enough to relax you a bit. A glass of wine maybe!

a couple of days to watch for infection sounds pretty hopeful. It would be a sensible precaution I'm sure, so try not to panic about it. Panicking doesn't ever help, so if you can wait until something happens before reacting you usually save yourself a little bit of heartache!

writing is far easier than talking to people isn't it. No facial expressions or immediate signs of sympathy to break you down before you've said your piece. I'm glad that helps you.

DH has a fever that they are watching closely. The dr told us this morning that we may get to go home on Thurs. Tomorrow they will take him into the operating room and clean all the burns and hopefully get it on a good healing path. They will do it in the OR so that he can be totally knocked out. This is a time when I thank God for strong medications!

He has really gone down today. Mostly I guess from the fever. I knew we would have some bad days but it is really hard to watch. His burns are yucky, yucky today but I guess that is to be expected.

His mother was admitted to the hospital, a different one, so that they can get her on some heavy stuff to shrink the tumor. She has had a few scares in the last several days about not being able to breath and choking. The tumor is just taking up all the area to breath.

His dad is still in the hospital, yet another one!, and will have another surgery on the 15th. His wound is hooked up to a "wound vac" to stimulate growth and hopefully not have to graft as much.

I am...........tired, sleepy, mental zapped, my stomach is in knots.......I want to cry but then not so much........I know we will look back on this and go "man that time really sucked!" but rigth now I am just way over my limit.......I had to come home for a break. I think I may take a shower before I head back.........

Just a quick note before I head out.

DH got through the debridement of his burns yesterday. He was in the ALOT of pain but they were able to get him comfy and medicated pretty quickly. He was out of it most of the day. I am curious to see how his night went. Dr. will come in this morning and let us know if we get to come home. We shall see. I am taking the boys to school this morning. They have been little troopers but are really missing their daddy!

We are home and it is wonderful!

DH took a shower....well not what you and I would consider a shower but the "new normal" for him for a while. And he felt so much better!

He had a good nights sleep last night, as did I!

The boys get out of school early today so they are eager to get here so we can hang out together.

His pain meds are good. His appetite is returning. His wounds are....well I guess improving....some look really great...others...not so much, but they are holding their own.

Awe.....I am gonna go veg on the couch and take a nap for a bit!

DH is healing nicely. We go to the Dr. on Thursday. His burns look better to me. He is sleeping alot but taking a shower daily and doing his physical therapy exercises. His is backing off of some of his pain meds and seems to be handling it ok.

DSs are about to climb the walls! We have watched 7 movies in about 4 days and that is ALOT for us. DS5 has terrible allergies so outside is hit and miss. It is beautiful but windy and he comes in just itching with swollen puffy eyes and acting like a big ole mean bear! He is my outside kid and this like prison to him. DS7, he could watch movies and never get out of bed!

We have had gifts of a bag full of organic junk food...mostly all eaten, a box full of extra strength cleaning supplies (can I tell you this was actually fun. I would never buy most of the stuff and it is fun trying it out.) Food, food and more food! My girlfriend network has really outdone themselves!

Today: fight more with the temp. disability people, catch up on my schoolwork, vacuum and clean the kitchen....and take the boys to our local sea center and a park for about 30 minutes to run some energy out. Allergies or not DS5 needs some physical exercise.

I assume he will have to take some time off work? How about you?

so I am off. He will be off for about a month. His job is mostly outside for the local power company so he has to be completely healed before he goes back due to the heat and clothing he has to wear.

might give DH some peace and DS a place to run round without suffering from the world outside, if you have one nearby that is. Any break from the cabin fever has to be beneficial for you all. Good to hear the pain levels are coming down - should indicate he's healing well.
