I can't gargle, and my throat hurts....

I have never been able to gargle, and my throat and chest hurt when I cough. I wish there was something other than cough drops, and a friend of mine told me to drink lemon/honey/water. Cut open, and squeeze a lemon into a cup, then pour some honey in there, then hot water and drink it after eating something, like lunch or supper. Well, now tonight and tomorrow we have a big snow storm coming our way, and it's supposed to last for a few days. I want to get out and do things, get some energy moving through my body, I still have last nights pajama's on, it's just a t-shirt and sweats but still I wouldn't mind being able to go outside and do something. (Like getting the mail, that would be nice to do.)Not that I mind taking naps in the afternoon, I just want to be able to do SOMETHING!Barf! Back in the middle of September till the beginning or middle of October last year I was very, extremely sick, and I seriously don't want to go through that again.Barf! Also, there is another friend who is staying the night, and she is sicker than I am!! OH BOY!!! (By the way, I live in a group home, and the friend who is staying over is actually a staff member, so no, I can't send her home.)Sticking out tongue Big grin But, I do have a door, and it's shut. Big grin So, I think I will go take a shower, and do what I have to, then go to bed, hopefully somebody can help me, and maybe even help my friend/staff who works here tomorrow night into Friday morning, and also works here Friday night till about bedtime. I don't know who or when where to ask for help on the internet, so I was hoping maybe one of you could help me, and get this stuff to go away, and not come back.(Please?) Thank you in advance, I have no idea what I would do without everyone of you.*lots of hugs* I may not write much, but I do read your words, and they help me get through my day so much better. Some of them, also make me laugh quite a bit. Smiling Eye-wink Thanks. Big grin

Lemsip

not sure where you are or wether you have any idea what Lemsip is, but it's a liquid flu prearation. You can add one small thing to the honey and lemon drink which is quite soothing if you can't gargle - soluble paracetamol. In the drink it's quite tasteless but because you're drinking it slowly in a hot drink it is in contact with your throat for longer than taking tablets. Just remember not to take the two types of medication together! Eye-wink

hope you're feeling better by now. Drink lots, and make it warm thin drinks like hot water, tea, or honey and lemon, rather than coffee, hot chocolate or cold drinks.

Lemsip is called Theraflu (and other brands) here. DH likes it. Paracetamol=acetaminophen.

you're like a sponge for absorbing different cultures!! Smiling

it should definitely be the liquid type of stuff, not capsules, because of the contact with your throat. I found that out the hard way!

I straightened out some long-overdue business with the bank we used in the UK, and the man on the phone had a very thick Yorkshire accent. I had to ask him to repeat every other sentence.

Many UK regional accents utterly phase me, especially in a call centre, and I'm a native!

I am feeling a little bit better tonight. Although I am curious, I was looking through the recent comments on the right side, and it said Chish and Fips... I wasn't sure if I was getting sick again or what? Shocked I had to do a double take. Huh? Puzzled
By the way, "D" doesn't always stand for "dear." Eye-wink

English people sometimes say Chish and Fips instead of Fish and Chips. That was just we Brits (me and Kerri) messing about Big grin

I don't know it this would help

But I've found a lot of help with Queen Lynn's recommendation of Elderberry syrup and oregano spirits when I've got a cold. It really shortened the length and eased the severity of the virus, whatever it was. I got the goods at a health food store, but if there isn't one in your area, Lynn has linked to this site online sources for the stuff and to related articles here, here and here.

I've been interested myself to see if colloidal silver helps with sore throats, but it's a bit pricey and I haven't tried it yet. There's supposedly not a germ alive that colloidal silver can't kill. They make throat sprays and tinctures and stuff, all a bit on the $$$ side.

Hope you feel better soon.

And you have to be careful not to OD, from what I understand.

Did some research after reading your post, Becky, and, according to Wikipedia, the skin discoloration is permanent. The discoloration is caused by long term use building up silver salts in the body's tissues, according to quackery.com.

I think since it's so expensive and no clinical trials have proven it effective, I'll stick with the herbs!
