DD2 has a touchy tummy, so I have to think of what she can eat that will look reasonably similar to what the rest of us our eating. Because right now "reasonable" and "DD2" should not even appear in the same paragraph together!
Soup, I think. I was a naughty shopper and bought Chicken and Stars (I try to avoid regular canned soups), because DD2 will eat it and you can put the amount of chicken it contains in a thimble. She'll have that and we'll have something else in a bowl.
only it was me that was feeling touchy... instead of moussaka we had noodles. I got a whiff of some on the way back from school and it smelled appetising. I just basically threw things in the pan... chopped bacon pieces, a couple of eggs and some leftover Savoy cabbage with plenty of soy sace, which was what I could smell. It mostly went okay down my neck but I couldn't finish and then the kids threw the res of theirs away too. Difficult to insist your kids finish when you don't finish yourself.
Sunday I made a soup with homemade chicken stock and roasted oxtails and beef shanks, carrots, onions, rice and a couple of potatoes. Today I got the rest of the meat off the oxtails and discarded the bones, more carrots, celery and parsnips and gave it a good boil. We ate it with homemade rye croutons and chopped green onions. It was fabulous.
basically we're having omelettes for dinner tonight, but with that we shall be having whatever I need to use up out of my fridge(s!) that doesn't instantly qualify as rubbish!
and tomorrow - lucky us - is airplane food!! Even Singapore Airlines, which wins awards and is noted for having far better than average food, is still a bit hit and miss with their meals. I like the flight out from the UK because they have nice Muller yoghurts which are made in my old hometown. It was always a nice touch to see the name on the pots as we were going back to Singapore. On the way out from Singapore they have horrible sweet Swiss muck.
Tonight we have haggis, neeps and tattees (parsnips/turnips and potatoes) and gravy. No green vegetables, it's not right on Burns night Oh, and a wee dram or two.
we were offered the bashed neeps and tatties with haggis at the house of a magician neighbour, many years ago at New Year. I politely declined them all (having tasted the haggis before, honest!) and then felt guilty so I had a couple of glasses of whisky instead... bad move to be that drunk when the host is a magician. I was an obvious victim and to this day I have no idea how those sponge balls got in my hand!
...didn't even know it was burns night. Shame because I love roasted potatoes and parsnips and it would have been a good excuse. Alas, my ancestors were French Huguenots (we think). What foodie treats does that entitle me too, and when?
DS is staying at his girlfriend's for a couple of days again, which means I am in danger of not bothering to cook just for me. My New Year's Resolution is to put myself and my health higher on the agenda though, so I'm planning smoked haddock with boiled potatoes amd stir fried vegetables. Probably followed by jelly (whaddya call that? Jello?) as I made a bowl for DS and he hasn't eaten it.
That has to be a first! I never forgot the carbs before, they're the best part It wasn't until I had eaten the haddock and veg that I remembered I was going to do boiled potatoes too. I followed it up with an apple, didn't fancy the jelly.
Last night was:
Shake and Bake pork chops with homemade BBQ sauce
lipton garlic noodles
beet greens
corn
bittersweet chocolate dipped strawberries
Tonight will be
pizza with a wheat crust
one reg pepperoni
one garlic-veggie with no tomato sauce on it (mushrooms, red peppers, black olives, sweet onions, broccoli, baby spinach, pressed garlic, olive oil, asagio cheese)
Tomorrow, who knows? DS15 has been dead-on perfect this week, and last night it came out that he wants to invite 12 kids over tomorrow! From 7-11. I think it can be done, but may impact dinner, we'll see.
NO cooking here! DH and I might sneak out somewhere for a bite...
The DDS have sister-friends whose dad lives in our neighborhood. The girls are only here 2 afternoon/evenings a week and every other weekend. Our girls are invited over there to play/have dinner this evening.
Tomorrow we (DH and I) have friends coming over..but we haven't decided whether we're ordering Chinese or if I'm cooking....that decision will happen this evening!
Blessings,
Lenora

Tonight DD5 and I will make some dumplings for Chinese New Year, one third pork, one third shrimp, and one thid a mixture. We are also making lo-mein type noodles and a shrimp and veggie stri-fry with snow peas.
Tomorrow I am going to roast an 18 pound turkey and make sausage cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, and fresh, homemade cranberry sauce.
We're having fish, noodles, carrots, peanut butter cookies and chocolate cake. And, hey-- we're having turkey too! But Monday instead of tomorrow. Tomorrow we're having chili.

We're doing the breakfast-for-dinner thing and having waffles, peanut butter, jelly, and/ or syrup and eggs.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_32769,00...
I will let you know how it turns out.
Jana
Thursday
Taramasalata, boiled potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, beansprouts.
Jana, I am imagining you tossing a lasagne. That can't be right, so I'm off to check that recipe
Ah, now i understand
It's made with pasta pieces, not sheets. Let us know how it turns out!
Friday
Red Curry shrimp with green beans and pineapple on sweet onion-chili basmati rice.
It's really cold out (below zero) so I am craving something spicy! The kids will complain, but oh well.
Sounds good to me!
Yeah, my husband would complain, too, but the curry sounds great to me!
I made bread yesterday, so tonight we'll probably have homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
Friday dinner?

We had sausages, broccoli and mashed swede, with gravy. Simple but tasty
The recipe was GREAT!
