![]() Brrr!OK, someone must have heard me complaining about the warm weather, because it is just bitterly cold! Lucky me, my moms group has an outing to a toasty warm indoor kid pool this morning. Just relaxing a bit before I put on my shoes (oops, uh, ignore the fact that I have no shoes on) and head out for the pretend tropics. DH and I had a long talk about what we want our home and family to be like. We both said that clutter and cleaning were big issues. Could this mean more help?! Didn't sort the socks, but I did get a lot of laundry put away, and I'm nearly caught up on all the "sickie" sheets and towels (and clothes). Last load washing right now. I should post a separate question, but anyone have any thoughts on disinfecting laundry? Andrea, I am so with you on Scrabble. In so many areas of life people complain about the "big vocabulary" I use, but in Scrabble I am a real dunce! I am genuinely awful. (Doesn't help that I never like to play, because I am so bad.) Hope everyone has a good week! Hey y'all! Not doing tooHey y'all! Not doing too much flying here except the desk got cleaned last night (late last night. It's all on my blog. Let's just say Jeff lost something on my desk that wasn't there at all. grrr). I did get the trash all hauled off (a truck full). Hopefully will have a TADA later. ![]() Got Some ControlAnd went to bed last night with a shiny sink! Yippee! This morning I did one load of laundry, and before I cook dinner I will do one more, and then it will be caught up! Don't need to do a WHB today, so I'm going to do a couple of last week's missions: a car and pocketbook (totebag in my case) fling boogie instead. TADA PODA We decided to go back to our old job chart that had fallen out of use. Everyday each one of us "big people" does half of a job (for exapmple, unload OR load the dishwasher OR fold a load of dry laundry OR start a new load of laundry) and everday the jobs rotate. Then on Sundays we will make a list of what needs to be done and everyone can take turns picking jobs. Hopefully it will work. Have a great day friends! Disinfecting LaundryShaun, What are you trying to accomplish? Most viruses are so fragile that exposure to water and laundry soap is enough to kill them (although Hepatitis B virus can exist on a hard surface after a blood or other body fluid splatter for up to 14 days--so wash your hands with soap after using a public restroom) Bacteria, molds, and fungi can be tougher to kill depending on the environmental conditions. Bleach is one of the most useful and inexpensive tools and a little goes a long way (and we don't want to dump too much into the water system). A 4% solution is adequate to kill most anything. But, that won't work for all fabrics. The right amount of full spectrum UV light (that is, sunlight) (usually 15 minutes) will destroy most bugs. But, that can be tricky with the weather. Maybe what you're using is enough, but you want that antiseptic smell? A regular wash will eliminate most of anything in the sheets. You might want to wipe down the outsides of the pillows and mattresses with a half-strength rubbing alcohol solution. Remember, alcohol works by destroying the cell walls of bugs by it's rapid evaporation. It has to dry to work. You most likely wanted a simple answer and as usual, I've given you a prolonged lecture on epidemiology. LOL. I hope this helps. L. Bluesy Gal Lisa Good Afternoon! TADA morningGood Afternoon! TADA PODA The pin in the dog's leg came through, about a quarter of an inch. The vet said that it is a minor repair and takes about 10 minutes but they had to put her under for it. Poor thing, will all this ever end?? Gathered up some more of the kids' stuff and made $42 at the consignor's,not too bad. I think that whatever clothing, books, toys, etc that they own is what they want/need/use. Better get DD frm school Heidi TADATADA for the last three days:
Good Morning! Lois- wow thatGood Morning! Lois- wow that is very cool. I love birds and will do some birding trips with our local park system when the kids are old enough to fend here for themselves in the early mornings. Was this a trip through your park system or on your own? PODA have a good one Heidi ![]() Good DayTADA PODA Heidi, that is too bad about the dog. Ouch! Lois, I have never been bird watching, but it sounds lovely. Shaun, we are getting your cold tomorrow. I knew it would happen eventually. Have a peaceful day flyfriends! Ahhh, three kids gone. AndAhhh, three kids gone. And Drew is such a good baby, it's like having the house all to myself! LOL!! Girls are off to school, Chance is going to DH to plow some on the tractor. Hey, I got some decluttering done yesterday! Did the bottom of DH's closet in the bathroom and all the drawers and cabinet in there, too. THEN, I did the dresser drawers. Didn't get rid of too much, a couple pairs of DH's shorts and sweats that were holey or the elastic shot in them, and some of my undies that were holey, too. First off today I'm going to do my workout tape. Then I think I'll finish up some laundry, maybe work some more on my room, maybe try to scrapbook or quilt a little bit, if Drew allows. I been flingin'....Congratulate me...I'm off to a good start. If I can keep going like this, my whole life will seem less overwhelming. Guess that's the point, huh? I think I've got one lone mouse left sneaking around here. Still looking for new kitten. Been having fun reading along with you gals. Romper room hellos to all! Julie ![]() HI Everybody! Keep onHI Everybody! Keep on flingin' Julie - feels good doesn't it? Definitely, get a cat - you will love it. Hey Jenny, hope you enjoyed your quiet time. I could use some of that. Jo, looks like you have been busy as usual. Hi Heidi and Lois and Lisa! Typical day here - shuttled kids back and forth after school, then exercised, and threw dinner together. Just chilling now, pretty tired. Andrea ScrabbleAndrea and Shaun, I mostly use three and four-letter words in Scrabble too. I just place them strategically. Jenny, I keep remembering when Chance was Drew's age and you called him "Fussybutt." Drew sounds very different! Jo, your system sounds great and worth renewing! Sorry about the dog Heidi. Glad you had a nice time Lois. Good job flinging Julie! TADA: Homework? Studying? What's that? Hi flyfriends!!!It has been like forever since I ahve been here but I have been thinking of you guys lots!! Things have been crazy here- This pregnancy is certainly much different than Alexa!! Long story short- I have some clotting factor that I have been put on blood thinner injections I have to do every night, I failed the $#@! 3 hour glucose test so now I have gestational diabetes and cant eat Big Macs or chocolate anymore. I have been to so many stupid doctors and labs in the past month. We have a fetal echocardiogram today and then I am free for a week except for twice a sweek blood draws for the clotting thing. This baby better be a complete angel when he/she shows up!!!!!! Just pray for us and the baby that this slightly high fluid level on the brain goes away by the time of delivery. The doctors say it should but they are so precautious it scares me!!! Ok enough of us- how are you guys??? Jenny, I am so glad Drew has been a good baby for you. You sound like he fit right into your beautiful family. Give him some smooches and squeezes from us Shaun, I hope everyone is feeling better from the sickies. I know I ahve lots of people calling the pharmacy about the puking bug. YUcky!!!!! Quick Hi to everyone- DH took Alexa to get us some breakfast- I get to have eggs on a plate. I miss bread so much!!! Im going to check out the carb free bread today. Oh my gosh, I can't believeOh my gosh, I can't believe you remember I called Chance that when he was a baby! LOL! Drew is MUCH better. Jackie, sorry about the problems. Just a couple months of sacrifice and you will have a beautiful baby to hold! As for yesterday's nap, well, didn't happen. Chance ended up only going with DH for the morning, was back before lunch. oh, well. I did do not one, but two workouts on my tape (total of 30 minutes). And I feel it today. LOL! Didn't do much around the house then, and we went to a ball game last night. Will try to catch up today. Especially grocery list/menus. Drew has 2 month checkup tomorrow and shots, I need a few scrapbooking things from Hobby Lobby, deposit money, get money, and Walmart. Will probably do other desk stuff today, too (checkbooks, thank you notes). ~~~~~~~~Sending good vibes to Jackie for the remainder of the pregnancy. I'll keep you in my prayers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Afternoon! Jackie-I wasGood Afternoon! Jackie-I was wondering about you. I had gest diabetes with my second but not my first too. TADA PODA Complete white-out snowstorm here, can't see 10 ft in front of you so very slow going on the roads, good day to tackle all this organizing. See ya all later Heidi Busy, Busy, Busy WomenTigerlilly, WOW. I empathize with the "too many doctors" syndrome. I understand that one waaaay too well. My prayers are with you both. PODA Call for hair updo for DD(17) on Friday Feb 2--big Junior Ring dance See if I can't finish sorting through paper that was clogging up the kitchen table so I set up a card table in the hearth room. What does the term reboot mean when applied to laundry? Debasket the kitchen (clutter busting remnants that belong in another room and are just waiting in a basket to be taken to that room). Italian class tonight (class #2) (My plan is to sell the house once the kids are on their own and move to Tuscany. I have 6-8 years to become fluent.) (who says I can't set goals! LOL) TaDa (so far today) Later gators. L. Blues Gal Lisa ![]() RebootTake one load out of the dryer, fold it, move the wet load from washer to dryer, and start a new load in the washer. At least that's what it means for me. Rebootfor me, reboot means I left the laundry in the washer too long and it needs to be washed again. LOL! ![]() Just poking my head inJackie, just wanted to let you know i'll be praying that everything works out with the baby, i'm sure it will. Romper room hellos to everyone else. Am I a Mom yet?...Yesterday I picked Gage up at kindergarten and we went to lunch. So, last night I found myself walking/driving around with french fries in my purse--wrapped in a restaurant placemat with a rubber band holding it all together. Worse yet...I ate them for supper Still decluttering here...feels great. Romper Room, and Onward... Julie Thanks girls! Thanks so much for thinking of us! I had the fetal echocardiogram yesterday and for the first appointment in like forever the dr said- "everything looks perfect!" Baby was a big wiggle worm though- we were cracking up! And has his/her hands across their chest so the tech couldnt get at the heart! Was so cute! Jamielea, thanks for the prayers. I have an appointment with the dietician tonight. I am ok with the eating healthy- usually when Im not preggo I do try to eat healthy- I am just confused on the carb thing. And I need some sort of menu to follow. LIke eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then I will be fine. LAst night I ahd pot roast and gravy with no noodles and a little red cabbage for dinner and my sugar was 137. What the heck did I do wrong? Thanks and sorry so off topic girls- but I knew I could count on my flyfriends to help me and cheer me up. Quick Hi and waves to everyone. No tada since we just woke up. Its 830am- I better cherish these days OK loveyou girls, LOve JAckie It's still very much morning where I am.Morning all! Jana, congratulations on the shiny sink! Jackie, the perinatologist says I have a similar clotting problem which probably caused my miscarriage, so I'll have to go on Lovenox shots myself next time around. I'm hoping that will be soon enough that we'll be on them together! You're so far along though, your baby should be just fine. As far as the pot roast and cabbage, maybe it was the flour or cornstarch in the gravy? And some commercial gravies have sugars in them too (you didn't say whether it was homemade). Jenny, two workouts! Wow! Heidi, storms are good for staying home and organizing, aren't they? Lisa, Flylady says that reboot laundry means take it out of the washer and put it in the dryer or hang it on the line. Though Jo's and Jenny's definitions are legitimate too! Hello Jamie! Julie, I hope you enjoyed your supper. I can't believe how much better organized I am without evening classes. It's making a huge difference in my life not to have be getting home at 9:30 two or three nights a week. Things roll along so much more smoothly! PODA: reboot (ha) laundry Flying by to say HiRunning like a chicken with my head cut off...work...school...taxes...ebay whooooo! Just stoppin in to say Hi....I am lurking! Welcome Elaine! ![]() HiHI everyone! Great to see you Marlene - you sound quite busy. Hope you like your new job! Becky, nice to see your long post! I would not function very well either getting home at 9:30. Jackie - welcome back! Glad your appt. went well - Becky is right, could be the hidden ingredients. Can't wait to find out what you are having! Julie, I have wrapped a lot of things in my purse, but never fries! Nice to see you poke in Jamie Lea - we are missing you here! Hi Jenny and Jo! Well, dinner is done, dishes are done, and DS is off for a sleepover. DD is still up, just chilling here. Had a very rough day with a bipolar kiddo at my school, so am just kinda recovering. Catch ya later - Drew had 4 shots today, poorDrew had 4 shots today, poor baby! All is well with him though. 2 months old, weighs 15 pounds and is 25 inches long! Yeah, I KNOW!! LOL! Did most of my errands, put a couple on the backburner for town next week. Just not enough time today. I'm thinking about letting the girls ride the bus in the afternoons so I won't have to mess with that every afternoon. I coasted into the truck stop on fumes, then it cost $95 to fill up my truck! Sheesh! I'm so far behind now in the house! But tomorrow I will be at the school all day to help decorate for homecoming tomorrow night. Will try to accomplish a load of laundry tonight. ![]() JackieI agree with Becky, probably the gravy. Sometimes all the "good eating" in the world won't help though. Both with Trey and Savannah I was insulin dependant, not the funniest thing but worth it. Hi Andrea Julie, that sounds like a MOM to me! Becky, you seem very "on top" of things lately, way to go. Romper room hellos to everyone I missed. It's late/early and I'm pooped. ![]() MorningMorning All - Jamie Lea - my kids are out, but not me, so I had to figure out places for them to be. they are both at friends' houses - worked out well. Drew is growing so well Jenny, that's great! Well, DD and I had another blow out yesterday, followed by apologies. The chemistry between us is not great right now. Just trying to figure it out. One day at a time... Gotta run - ![]() SuccessDoing a little bit every night is working! I have gone to bed with a shiny sink every night this week. Yippee! I will also only have about 3 loads of laundry this weekend, which includes bedding. Not too shabby! DS15 is having a party tonight, so I will clean the bathrooms and do the floors when I get home today. I also sprayed all the furniture in the cellar family room with febreze because it was a bit musty down there. TADA PODA Romper Room hellos to everyone! Jo, that's backwards...I mean a party with TEENAGE BOYS??? I'd clean the bathroom and the floors and spray the Febreeze AFTER they all go home! I'm allowed to say this stuff 'cuz I had a brother Unless, of course, you expect their mothers to come inside when dropping them off--in which case it all makes perfect sense! Julie Jo -I was thinking backwards, myself! Way to go on the shiny sink. That is all I have been able ot accomplish on a daily basis but it helps! Jana Flying off in too many directionsI've been studiously working through the Julie Morgenstern books on organizing and time management. And, I'm starting to get a little energy. So, I'm finding myself wanting to go full-tilt in at least 5 different directions. I'm going to sit down tomorrow morning and have a goal and priority setting session. I talked with the real estate agent I will most likely list my house with today. She validated my idea of getting a storage unit and start moving things out. She offered to provide the name of a handy man and encouraged me to strongly consider painting the walls. She agreed that it is always better to postpone putting a house on the market until it is show-house ready than to be a work in progress when the "for sale" sign goes up. Initially, I can move everything in the storage area of the basement out and add from there. Speaking of the storge area, Julie Morgenstern talks about one of the psychological obstacles to organization being "the need for abundance." Between having parents from the depression and growing up with the constant threat of nuclear anniliation from the cold war and living at ground zero, I can really horde food. I have a chest freezer in the basement full of food that will never be eaten (been frozen too long, no one likes it any more, etc). TADAs Gotta run, got a support group meeting at 6p and I've been working hard at being on time. Bonne Serra (I have Italian class twice a week. I have to write out a question/answer dialogue for Monday's class!) Later gators. L. Blues Gal Lisa Happy Saturday!Hi Marlene! Nice to see you posting! Hope you got some rest Andrea. For some reason I tend to attract bipolar people-- several friends and an ex-boyfriend who is now a good friend-- so I know how energy-sapping that can be to deal with! Jenny, that sounds like a reasonable idea to have the girls ride the bus. Jamie, I hope you got some rest too. How was the party Jo? Hi Julie and Jana. Buon giorno Lisa! Sounds like you have a good realtor. I have an article bookmarked on jumpstarting a job search for whenever I do that. It's http://www.bankrate.com/dls/news/career/20050207a1.asp if you're interested. Well, remember my PODA from Thursday? It didn't happen on Thursday-- BUT it happened on Friday! DH and I went out to Border's for coffee on Thursday instead. We hadn't had a date in a few weeks, so it was nice. And I got all that stuff done Friday, pretty much. I'm not posting a PODA. I'm going to go with the flow today. If anything gets done, I'll post a TADA. Well, I take that back. PODA: Spent all day yesterdaySpent all day yesterday working on homecoming. Decoration, building, setting up, cheering/coaching, feeding baby in between. Got home at 11:00 with an extra kid to spend the night. Today I'm trying to catch up. The house looks horrible after being out of it the past two days. Did the kitchen this morning, hope to mop later. If my foot can stand it. I got the not so pleasent surprise of stepping on a wasp as soon as my feet got out of bed. Ugh. Now my foot is swollen some. Lisa, sounds like you are busy! Bipolar. My stepbrother has this. He was diagnosed 2 years ago. He won't stay on his meds. Talked to my other stepbrother this morning (he flew down to try to help him) and found out that he has been in jail for the past two weeks and will be there for a couple more months (for harassing his ex-girlfriend). It's a messed up situation and my mother doesn't know what to do. Well, I better get busy! Good Afternoon! TADA moreGood Afternoon! TADA PODA Jenny-do your shoes fit after swelling up from the sting? Too bad you're still not pregnant cuz you could be barefoot and pregnant then! I vote for letting the girls ride home on the bus cuz it saves you gas money, saves you time, if Drew or Chance are napping you don't have to wake them up to go,and the girls will enjoy it! Becky- I love playing Scrabble too, don't get to often enough. Life is DS's favorite so that's what gets played alot. DD is watching a video called Stellaluna. We have the book and have read it many times, saw the video at the library, had no idea it was even made. Better run.... Heidi ![]() The Party Was GreatDS was really upset and worried when he got home from school Friday because when several of the kids heard DH and I would be home and there would be no drinking/drugs said that they wouldn't come. He ended up with 20 kids anyway, and was pleased with how it went. They were very loud, but good. I do have to admit that the cellar smelled pretty bad when they left! The house is looking pretty spiffy! In a bit we will tackle the kitchen cupboards and drawers. Then make some fun food and hopefully have a good, relaxed family night. TADA PODA My BIL is rapid-cycling bi-polar as well as alcholic and drug addicted. He also doesn't take his meds correctly. We recently found out he traded a canoe for a hand gun, and we are really, really worried he will hurt someone. He also has his own business and hasn't paid any taxes for 2 years. That's such a hard disease to deal with. Off to tackle the kitchen! your brother-in-lawthat's another problem with Dstepbrother. Alcohol, drugs and he has no job (hey, jail could be a good place for him afterall!). He has decided to become a professional bowler (!?) and also has a gambling problem. On Christmas Day, he left my mom's (in Georgia) early to go visit an uncle in North Carolina. When Dstepdad called to see if he made it there, the uncle told him yes, but he stayed an hour then decided to drive up to Illinois (or Indiana?) to a casino! Oh, I could go on, but it's scary enough. Well, we never did get toWell, we never did get to Scrabble yesterday, just the DVDs. That's okay though! I also managed to send a bunch of e-mails to family and friends. How is your foot Jenny? Heidi, what movie did you see? Jo, some of my family members didn't/ don't pay taxes on their businesses either. They're not bipolar though, just crooks. Some of them fled to Canada, which seems pretty stupid for people who don't want to pay taxes but that's how it went. Which reminds me, PODA: -Call up one of my non-crooked cousins who recently moved to this area and find a time to get together. Jo, you are brave. VeryJo, you are brave. Very brave! LOL! Four loads of laundry down yesterday. That's one folded that had been in the dryer a couple of days, another that had been in the washer overnight, and two more, including Chance's sheets. I HAD the kitchen cleaned up, too (but then DH attacked and I just didn't have the energy anymore). DD8's friend ended up staying til 6pm. Her mother said she was helping a friend move all day. Had her mom meet me at the school since it was already dark. She had never been here and I didn't want to mess with her getting lost in the dark. Foot is fine now, Becky. LOL! It stung me right on the insole and didn't swell as bad as I thought it would have. I still hate the ^%$!@#$ things!! I ditched church today. DH has a thing at 1. He was gone all day yesterday playing fire truck (since he joined the volunteer dept., he has to go thru several Saturdays of training). More sand blowing today. This weather is SO screwed up! I'm not sure what all I will do yet. I have so much, it's just hard to choose. LOL! ![]() Morning everyone! Gosh,Morning everyone! Gosh, everyone has a bipolar story, don't they?! It is a terrible disorder, but can be controlled in some cases. We are finding many more cases in children now in the schools anyway - it seems to be the "ADHD" of today. Waves to everyone - I agree you are brave Jo! Pretty good day today - TADA: Now, I need to do some stuff online - look at travel options for spring - and then hopefully do some scrapping and make dinner. The kids both have friends over, which is going really well. Amazing how sometimes 4 is easier than 2. Bye! Good Evening! TADA morningGood Evening! TADA PODA DH did tax stuff today too so that's an organizing task off my mind. I organized all DS's IEP papers and will put in a big binder tomorrow, then will buy a new binder for 6-8th grade IEP papers. I saved it all as is needed and it was in semi order but now is categorized and in one spot. Whew! Picking away at other papers, this is the year to organize papers if you couldn't tell. My home is pretty organized,on a 1-10 scale it would be in the 8 range. But paperwork....that was a 4 maybe. I checked some picture books out of the library on organizing and they have helped some. I wish we had a mudroom. That is the one thing that would definitely help with shoes, coats, backpacks, etc. Our entry is directly into the living room so not much transition space there. Coats and bookbags do make it into the small coat closet there but shoes are kicked off on a mat by the front door. And with 4 of us in the house...well,you get the picture. No one wants to bend down to put shoes away or retrieve them so all those shoe organizers never work for us. Oh well Enough rambling, see ya later Heidi Mud roomOh, I want one of those, too! I have it all planned otu when we build our dream house. there will be a nice big room between the garage and main house with a sink and laundry room in it. I have the same situation as you with the entry being in the living room. There is a back entry we use quite often that is the laundry room, but it's not very big. One thing I do like about that end of the house is that the master bathroom is off of the laundry room rather than the bedroom. I didn't think I would like that. Ok, I would rather have a nice master bathroom than the one I have. But bathroom off the laundry room is nice. ![]() Evening check inYes, a mud room would be great. We kinda use the garage and also our small front entry, just off of the LR. I drool over the mudrooms I see in mags though, like in the Container Store catalog I just got. Great with your paper organizing Heidi - I need to weed through my files - lots of it is junk. And yes, I need to do taxes too - Turbo Tax online we use. I did do one page in DS's scrapbook and made dinner - Chinese with storebought sauce - yum. Wegmans.com - check it out for great recipes. It is a regional grocery, but is great, tons of recipes and food info. OK, I'm off to get prepped for tomorrow. I would like to figure out what I'm wearing before the am. Andrea Post new comment |
