Check out this website!
The website is www.familywatchdog.us
I like it better than others of its kind because they show your home on a map as well as schools, play grounds, and the location of registered sex offenders nearby. The offenders are color coded and you can click on the dots to see the picture, name, and address of the person, plus the offense he/she was convicted for.

OMG
that is so creepy! They fight like crazy over here to protect the identities of known offenders (to the extent that they're getting hired in schools!) so this is overwhelming to be able to see faces and details.
I did of course borrow a TNH address to check. Scary stuff.

Not up to date?
Well, I looked me up and first of all, it showed my house no where near where my house actually is (showed it way to far north. I double checked, too). It's also showing roads where I know there isn't a road or has never been so much as a dirt road (uh, it's showing a road going right thru the middle of my ranch), and isn't showing our village in the right spot, and isn't showing our school at all. And that is zoomed up as far as it will go.
Second, I KNOW where there is a sex offender here and he didn't show up either. He has lived here for 3 years, has been registered all that time and is a mile north of the school.
OR maybe they just haven't gotten around to doing New Mexico yet (is that in the US? LOL!)

Ok, so I looked him up by name and he came up in that list. I copied and pasted HIS address to map it (and it said his was mappable), and he still didn't show up on the map.
True Story...
I'll try not to make it too long.
A few years ago, the nurse of my DH's neurologist was looking for a hairstylist, so we met and she came to see me. In fact she became a great client and her family came to see me as well. They were free with their cash, getting high dollar services and products and generous with their tips. Her husband was crippled up with one thing then the other, in really bad shape, but he was young. I felt bad for him. He was nice, constantly inviting my family and my kids (daughter esp.) to their lake house to play. Never took him up on it, I try to keep clients professional and not get too friendly. One day I was working and a man came in and BLASTED me for servicing this family. I was like, HUH? Turns out, he said that the man was a convicted child molester, and the child he molested was this man's daughter! At first I was like, nah....no way, can't be. Then I did some research and sure enough it was true. Saw the pic on the VA website, looked up the case and everything. I felt like crap. I had touched this man's hair. Bad thing is, I had to make excuses to NOT make him an appointment. Eventually they quit calling. The more I thought about it, I began to realize, maybe that is why he was so crippled up and his health was horrid. These things come back to you. Last I saw him, he had a pain pump, was in a wheelchair, and his skin was broken out with sores. What goes around comes around.
Whew ok, done.
Megan's Law
Hey, for those that don't know, there is a website called www.parentsformeganslaw.org which has a list of many of the sex offender registries.
Thanks
I was wondering if the site was up-to-date. All the addresses we checked were accurately positioned on their map though DD10's school didn't show up on it. I will check with the offender list that is published by our local sheriff's office to make sure that the site hasn't missed anybody living near us.
