Defining Insanity

Submitted by bluesgalinkc on Mon, 01/02/2006 - 9:46am.

Attributed to Einstein, insanity is trying the same thing expecting different results.

I'm trying some new things today with schedules, lists of tasks, and assigning certain tasks for each day. Wish me luck. Blues Gal in KC.

Yesterday was quite a day

Submitted by jennye on Mon, 01/02/2006 - 10:29am.

Yesterday was quite a day with all the sand. The house is so dirty now. My beige carpet by the front door is completely brown, except for the footprints left behind. Ugh. I'm working on getting back into the weekly blessing routine. All trash is dumped from all rooms, a load of laundry is going (should I do more? Or save it for tomorrow so I can get into the habit of one load a day?), distiller running.

After I posted yesterday we were met by another surprise: No water. again. But the sand storm was so horrible we couldn't even go out to the well house to look and see what was wrong. We don't know what was wrong, but by dark, it was working again on it's own. A loose connection is our guess. But I have it now and am taking advantage just in case. LOL!

I'm going to run the vacuum and try to dust (though what's the point, the wind will just blow again tomorrow. In fact, it's blowing again now, though we aren't in any advisories). Most of all, trying to get back on the flylady wagon!! New year, time to start over!

Hi Marlene and Lois!

Had a sick kid last night.

Submitted by jennye on Tue, 01/03/2006 - 8:56am.

Had a sick kid last night. Well, two of them. One (dd8) was throwing up all night, Chance was achy. Sent the other girl to school this morning, she said she felt fine so far.

My day will be spent doing laundry, laundry, and more laundry, and hopefully cleaning the girls room (especially shampooing the spot on the floor where she threw up).

Ain't it great to be me today! At least we have water. It went out again yesterday and DH figured out when he got home at dusk that it was the electric company's wires that weren't connecting right. Wind supposed to BLOW more today. great.

DD=dear daughter
DH=dear husband
DS=dear son

I'm the odd one here...never married, no kids (except for the borrowed kind)...just love anything related to the home, and also love my imaginary friends here.

Oh, here's news...been at war with mice for the past two weeks. I think I've gotten a bit of a lull between battles--I needed it! Yes, I'm getting a Kitty!

Marlene - how is your DD doing? Is she a senior?

Hi Flyfriends!!

Hi guys- Happy New Year!! Its been a fun yet crazy two weeks. Today I took down the tree and deChristmased the house and I have to say I feel back to normal finally. Now to let Alexa know we are back to our old naptime and bedtime!!
Jenny, it really has been quite a month for you! I hope things settle down a bit for you soon. I hope the kiddos are feeling better soon. Hang in there!
Marlene, I hope your back is feeling better. Laying in bed with a laptop sounds great to me!
Andrea- I love love love Target! It is our place to go especially since its been so cold and yucky so we cant go out. I just pack her up and off to Target to spend some money! I actually have been making a conscious (sp?) effort NOT to go this week. especially since I ordered a new printer from Amazon and Dh doesn't know yet Smiling
Big waves and Hi to everyone.
We have actually been doing pretty well over here flying-wise.
Poda and tada:
~I have cleaned everything with my new favorite gadget- my Mom got me a Scumbuster by Balck and decker. I am such a junkie when it comes to cleaning gadgets but this thing got my shower the cleanest I have ever seen it! I have been cleaning everything. Lets just hope the excitement lasts!
~Made menus for the past 2 weeks and have actually stuck to them. I can actually say I ahve cooked most nights which is a first probably since Lexie was born Smiling
~Dr appointment tomorrow- YUCK. I am bringing Dh this time since its the stupid high risk idiot and last time they were telling me all sorts of crazy things and it all turned out to be nothing. This is a followeup so cross your fingers they say everything is fine. Sometimes I wish it was the old days with no technology so these doctors wouldnt overanalyze everything but then again I guess its for the best Smiling
OK gonna go to bed I am beat! Love Jackie

Back is better....BUT! (need some advice)

Submitted by Marlene on Tue, 01/03/2006 - 8:36pm.

but the nurse today had me worried to death. I had to go for my pre-employment checkup, plus a drug screening. Well she was saying that "gee you take a lot of meds, its going to show up in your urine and the doctor is going to have to call you and talk to you about it". Ok, everything I take is prescribed, and I suffer from depression and I have neuralgia in my left arm from having shingles 7 years ago. But it kinda pissed me off, I am not a drug addict. I hold a full time job and go to school full time maintaining a 4.0, I don't think a drug addict could do that........I sure hope they don't hold that against me, or I will be unemployed. Then again isn't that discrimination? Anyone have any advice? A prayer? Sad

Submitted by Shaun on Tue, 01/03/2006 - 8:45pm.

Well, DD6 is back in school and I am back at work on both church stuff and writing stuff. Yuck! I wanna go back on vacation!

Hope all goes well for you at the Dr's, Jackie. I went to Target today myself. I think I've mentioned that "my" Target was the first-ever Target, tho now they have bulldozed it and replaced it with a SuperTarget, which I am liking more than I thought I would. Still, awfully huge. I think Target has great picture frames, and a lot of their store brands are pretty good.

Welcome new Jenny! I have been here about as long as Andrea, although every once in a while I kind of fall off the face of the earth!

Speaking of which, I need to get my latest work printed and ready for shipping, load the DW, and get to bed.

Have a good night!

Morning Ladies -
Up early trying to wake up before work. I have to leave in 53 minutes! I want my vacation back too!

Good luck with the app Becky.

Lois - I think Julie and Lenora have met. Becky met Honey and Kerri at least once. I know JEnny E. and Jamie Lea chat on the phone! Not sure who else.

Marlene - good luck. Seems like you should be fine - you may need your Dr. to back up the prescriptions.

I remember you saying that about Target Shaun. We don't have a Supercenter near us. My closest Target is 25 minutes away. My closest Wal-Mart IS a Supercenter which I like quite a bit and is 5 minutes away. The prices are definitely better than Target, but can't compete with Target in the style department. Have you seen the website - Slave to Target - fun!

Jackie - you have been doing great - congrats on the cooking! Feels good doesn't it. Good luck with the appt. - maybe you can reward yourself with a trip to Target. Eye-wink

Boy that news is bad out of West Virginia, just hearing that on the TV.

Today will be a maintenance day -

Must run and shower -
Have a great day ladies -

Submitted by jennye on Wed, 01/04/2006 - 7:19am.

Welcome new Jenny!

Yes we still have water!! Did laundry all day long while we had it. Ya never know when it's going to go out again.

And no, DH isn't serious about "starting over from scratch". Darn. I would love it if we could build a new house, just the way we want it and all. Well, someday we will.

My TADA from yesterday goes like this:
Laundry
some paperwork (got all balances together to do our Farm and Home Plan to renew our operating loan)
more laundry
placed an ad in the paper for DH's old truck
played a little Harry Potter on PS2
more laundry
made pizza dough (and eventually, Pizza)
cleaned the kitchen!

Not sure what's going to go on today, except more laundry (not quite caught up yet, but getting close!!). My list day so I can run to town tomorrow. And we will see what else.

Got to get over the hump!

Submitted by Shaun on Wed, 01/04/2006 - 10:54am.

Ugh, these cloudy days sure have me in the doldrums. My timer may be the only thing saving us from complete chaos -- I make myself unload the DW and fold laundry in tiny increments, because it just sounds too wimpy to say, no, I can't even do it for 5 minutes!

Your post snuck in on me Marlene -- try not to worry too much about the drug test. We had to do a "pee screen" for life insurance recently. Not fun, but even though we take various meds (including for depression) it was fine. If they discriminated against everyone taking meds who would they hire! Smiling

Good luck with your app., Becky. Are you planning to stay at the same school? Do you have to make a diss. proposal as part of the app.?

DD2 is in a total funk along with the rest of us, so I am probably doing the worst thing and letting her watch Blue's Clues again. (Well, I watched a little Martha today, which is very unusual for me. I never watch TV during the day.)

Not sure what I want to accomplish today, but I guess I'd better start thinking about it. Mostly I want a nap, but that ain't gonna happen!

For the most part, it is illegal for a U.S. company to not hire or fire someone because of a health condition.

For more information, you can visit the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's website at www.eeoc.gov. A page with a very precise and specific discussion of legal and illegal employment practices with respect to one's health can be found at http://www.eeoc.gov/types/ada.html

EEOC is responsible for investigating and prosecuting complaints of ADA violation. Additionally, employer who violate ADA law are open to civil suit. Good luck. L.

The PODA vs TaDa List Battle

Submitted by bluesgalinkc on Thu, 01/05/2006 - 5:37am.

Guess what, the SLUGS are winning this week.

I've had unusual appts that have consumed my mornings sending most of the day reeling into laziness. Oh well, if I wake up in the morning I get another chance to do better each day (it's that natural Pollyanna in me!) LOL.

I'm going to take 10 after the morning deliveries are made (DS to school, DD to prep school 45 minutes away, then mandatory one lap around the park with the dog). I've discovered audiobooks! They sure help with the BORING nature of housework (keeps that squirrel cage part of my brain busy listening so it doesn't turn petulant and defiant on me screaming about how boring dusting is). I'm off in my red chariot (Chrysler Sebring convertable--defiantly NOT a MOM car, tee hee. Maybe once the sun comes up it might be warm enough to pull on a hat, pop the car top, put the heater on full blast and cruise top-down for just a little while--gota take those smiles where you can find them!) Later gators. L.

P.S. Stevie Ray just came on the radio playing Riveria Paradise, mmmmm mmmmm mmmmmmmm.

Well, that's what my grandma always said about getting older, anyway. What's driving me nuts is that after sitting on the floor for a while I stand up and creak and groan with my stiff muscles like I'm an octagenarian! Youthful resilience, I hardly knew ye . . .

Bumpy road this morning -- DH was supposed to take DD2 to early childhood class, but they are both home instead. I am supposed to be baking and frosting king cakes, but we are out of milk for frosting. And we overslept by 90 minutes!

Why am I online? Because I have to drink my coffee, and I have to do *something* while I drink my coffee! Laughing out loud

Lisa, you are so good to drive so far for school! I feel like 20 minutes is too far! (We are having school woes, so we are looking around a bit.)

Hope everyone has a great day!

HELP!! I CAN'T FIND MY

Submitted by jennye on Thu, 01/05/2006 - 8:36am.

HELP!! I CAN'T FIND MY DESK!!

So guess what I'm doing today? Yup, unburying stuff. I think it's safe to throw away most of the kids old papers from school that's in a pile (I will go thru them though for creative writing and some art stuff that I always save). But there are massive piles laying around.

Shaun, that's how I am. I must have my morning coke (or two), and so I get on the computer to do so. Think of it as the morning paper (speaking of paper, I'm not going to renew my subscription to it. I feel bad because I do WRITE for the paper, but I seldom read it and they just pile up).

Very small tada from yesterday. I did get some banana bread made, DH took it to a funeral today (there is always a big pot luck after any funeral here). Drew had a fussy day. But I did discover that if I move the recliner up closer to the TV, I can play Playstation AND breastfeed at the same time very comfortably. LOL! DD8 called and said she didn't feel good, so I had to go get her (after she went to the bathroom, she felt much better and tried to get me to let her go outside to play. Nope, I'm not falling for THAT!)

Drive that convertable on over here, it's warm enough for the top down. At least in the afternoon it is. LOL!

DH was sick in bed most of the time and on the way down we lost our muffler in the middle of the night. Got that replaced when we got to my dad's. The dog enjoyed laying outside in the sun by the pool as did all of us!

My house is getting better...it was a total disaster when we left since we left right after Christmas. Wrapping stuff, gifts all over, etc then come back and unpack, buy groceries, sort through 8 days of mail,etc,etc....

I've put myself back on the mailing list to hopefully get back on Flybaby track.

We have been having a lot of homeschooling fun with DD's Christams presents, and she is just learning in leaps and bounds. Today it's a very messy but cool fossil excavation kit. She's enthralled. She also got a watch and is picking up telling time quickly. We have also been blowing through the Felicity books. Fun!

We have also been pretty busy with inventory and basketball games and hanging out with visiting family, so I have been AWOL from here.

TADA
nothing at home, it is a disaster!
OK, not so true, the laundry is pretty under control
I meal planned, so we have been eating well
made appointments for physicals for DH and Me
got call waiting and call wave, so we can get those wrecker calls even when on line or on the phone
put in a phone line repair request for wind damage
and Oh! I cleaned and organized the dreaded "junk drawer" on New Year's Day

PODA
Get the house back on track-babysteps!
Get everyone in the family in bed at a reasonable hour because we are all over tired and cranky

Welcome back Heidi! I forgot about your trip and was wondering where you were.

Welcome to the group new Jenny!

Jennye, you made me laugh about nursing and playing playstation! I'm getting quite a mental picture!

Marlene, I'm glad you are keeping your sense of humor about the pee test. I have mine next week. Fun fun.

Becky, that's great you're making progress on the app. Paperwork, bah.

Hello to everone else!

Wow Jo, you have gotten a lot of homeschooling done. Now I feel guilty. I need to be reading more with DD while she wants to read with me. She is just on the cusp of reading herself. My DS got one of those fossil kits - he has it all dug now I think he's supposed to put it together?!

Andrea-we stay at my dad and stepmom's house when we go to Florida each winter. They have a pool out back so it's like a hotel!! Disney advice...get the timed tickets so that you don't wait in lines forever. Park passes for 3 or more days are more economical and don't expire. You can go back several years later and use what's left on them for admission. If you are doing the Animal Kingdom go very early in the morning when the animals are active, later in the day is a waste, you don't see too many.

Hi everyone!

Welcome New Jenny. We should call you NJ or NewJ,huh??

Or you can just call me Old

Submitted by jennye on Sat, 01/07/2006 - 9:36am.

Or you can just call me Old Jenny. LOL!!!

Jo, sunny here, too. But the temps are supposed to be 79 today and windy (the latter will keep us inside most of the day). This is NOT normal weather. We need rain SO BAD. I can't remember the last time it rained. October I think. We have usually had a couple of snow storms by now, too.

Yesterday was spent fixing the computer. I think I got a virus or something. I went to town and bought some of that anti-virus software and it appears to be fixed. Also got a new digital camera. Really, it isn't much better than my old camera, except that it works and was pretty cheap (a Sony Cybershot for $128 at Walmart). Couldn't beat the price. The school had it's elementary awards assembly for the 1st semester yesterday. DD8 got 6 awards! DD6 got 2 (because her teacher only gave one award per person, and the other was for perfect attendence. DD8 got hers based on achievements).

Today, more laundry and picking up. Also the kids have GOT to do thank you notes before they have any fun stuff.

After picking up the living

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 01/08/2006 - 6:59am.

After picking up the living room, again, and cleaning up the kitchen a bit, I spent the rest of the day trying to fix my laptop, playing Jewel Quest, forcing children to write thank you notes (easy with DD6, like pulling teeth with DD8), and caring for Chance and Drew. Not much accomplished.

Today, going to church (finally!! It's been a month!!). Followed by getting some groceries.

DH doesn't want Christmas put away yet since we never really got to enjoy it all while away so...tree and decor remain up til next weekend! Maybe we can extend that as well and put hearts on our tree for Valentines Day!!

Jenny-I know what you mean about thank you notes and kids. My DD is good about it but Ds takes prodding. Here's an idea: take a photo of them holding a sign that says "Thank You" and then they can paste it to cardstock and sign their names at the bottom. I did that with Ds when he was younger. That way they don't have to write so much which is usually why they don't want to do it. Good Luck.

Lazy day here, dinner will probably be leftover pizza from Friday. Don't feel like doing much, will veg and play today. Do I have permission? LOL

Good idea for young kids,

Submitted by jennye on Sun, 01/08/2006 - 7:42am.

Good idea for young kids, Heidi! I may try that with Chance next year if he is able to write his name by then. I gave him crayons and papers and his scribbles will be his Thank You note. LOL!

Not sure why DD8 has such a hard time with this. She has a diary/journal she writes in all the time and she LOVES to write. But it took her 5 hours to complete her 6 notes! Where it took dd6 just a couple (and she even did more than enough. Some folks got two or three notes, one for each gift! LOL!). I'm proud of myself though for not losing my temper with DD8. While she pitched a fit, I just smiled and suggested she write me a "I Hate you" note, to which she yelled a bit more. LOL! It was quite funny and I should set up a video camera so she can see how she acts.

Honey, you know you can post here even if you don't "fly" we don't care. I don't "fly" and they haven't kicked me out yet! Laughing out loud
