We got a Panasonic mini DV camcorder for Xmas and I'm trying to figure out how to work it! Does anyone have suggestions for video editing software? WE are just doing regular family videos, etc.
If you're using Windows XP, check out Windows Movie Maker. It's built in and pretty simple to learn. Getting your videos off of the camera and onto your computer can be a little tricky. You'll need a firewire connection to do it. Hopefully, you already have one of those. Otherwise, you can add one, provided that the thought of opening your computer and installing one doesn't terrify you. (It's really not difficult.)
Thanks! I just discovered Windows Movie Maker last night and was able to transfer a short video from my camera to the computer. I liked it. Now I am having trouble burning a DVD! I have Windows XP - the computer is only a few months old. The drive says DVD R/RW. I am using DVDs that say DVD-RW. That should work, right? I couldn't burn with MovieMaker but tried something I downloaded called Blaze and it seemed like something was happening but then a message came up that said a problem had been encountered???
I don't know how it is with PCs, but my Mac actually does not burn DVDs. It will save data but not videos onto them. I could have bought one with a "Superdrive" that would burn them, but it would have cost extra.
You should have DVD burning software that came preinstalled. It may be the same software you'd use to burn CD's, such as Nero, or Roxio. For shorter movies, you could probably get by burning video cd's which should still play in most DVD players. Video CD should be an option in whatever burning software you use.
