Santa! Snow! Just! Too! Yule-ish!

We were supposed to get freezing rain tonight. OK, fine, let's get out while we can; it's supposed to hit around 4 pm, so let's get moving. Beautiful but freezing cold outside, clear as a bell. So we get the girls all duded up and off we go to see Santa downtown (pictures to follow). We got stuck in the parking garage for nearly 45 minutes trying to get out--who knows why--and as we waited on the ramp, it started to snow. Yikes!
Portland is a town that just doesn't do that well in snow. We don't get it very often and when we do we hope we have enough warning that we can all stay home. Well, a LOT of us got caught out in it today. We made it home without mishap, though the last bit was quite slippery.
We're stocked up on food, candles in case the power goes, and are cozy and warm. We went sledding a bit ago and I'm just now thawing out. It'll be gone by Tuesday, and we don't expect it back for Christmas, but right now it's white, and muffled, and I'm feeling Just! Too! Yule-ish!

Re: Santa! Snow! Just! Too! Yule-ish!
Duded up? 'Round these parts, we call it dudded up. You West Coast types are just too hip for words, dude!
Enjoy the Yule. If you'd like more snow, I've got plenty to spare.
Ice, now, actually
Which store did you go to for Santa, Lynn? Did you see the Meier and Frank windows? Are they the 12 Days of Christmas again?
If Portland falters with snow, it comes to a screeching halt with ice. Which is what I saw out my front window this morning, freezing rain. Two years ago Portland had an ice storm, and you'd think it was the second coming and tribulation, people were so wigged out.
I'm tempted to turn on the local news and snicker at the freaked out news and weather reporters. DH and I being former seasoned Midwesterners, ice storms are a yawn. Wonder if the power'll go out.
DD was delighted with the snow yesterday and thought that since it snowed then today must be Christmas. :cute: There's no slope to sled round here, but it was too cold and windy yesterday, anyway.
We're about a quarter of a mile from the Columbia River, which means gusts of up to 55 miles an hour this time of year. East wind that'll peel your socks off. DH and DD were up at a store right by the river two days ago and the wind was blowing DD away, DH had to hold on to her.
Thank goodness holiday shopping is 90 percent done and I don't have to go anywhere today. DD's Kindergarten program may be cancelled for tomorrow, don't know yet.

Pioneer Place
M&F is a zoo since this is the last Santaland Christmas, but we did see the windows which were indeed 12 Days of Christmas. It'll be sad when M&F disappears and becomes Macy's.
We just avoided the whole topic and went to Pioneer Place; not many people know there's a Santa there, he's our, uh, Secret Santa. heh. The Santa was a little frazzled but very Santa-esque--real beard and all. Trying to get the girls to smile naturally he told them he heard they wanted a potato in their stockings, which made them giggle (and that's how we got the only half-way decent picture). So naturally we're putting a potato in their stockings this year.

I've never even been in M&F
The downtown store, anyway. Not during Chrismas, like you said, zoo. But I love their 12 Days spread. Should go there once this season so DD can see it one last time. Don't think she remembers much from our outing last year.
