Whew!
Well! These past seventy two hours have certainly been interesting. On Wednesday, just as I decided (partially because it was about time, partially because I wanted the place to be nice when DGF came over Thursday night) to take care of the massive backlog of tidying up that had accumulated over the past few months, a client of mine called me to ask whether I'd be able to take on part of a rather large (about 100 pages total) Italian-English editing job, which needed to be delivered by Friday afternoon.
Essentially, this meant cleaning the entire kitchen, dining room, living room, and my bedroom (which I basically hadn't cleaned since moving in a year before) AND editing 60 pages of (not all terribly well done) legal translation before 8pm Thursday evening.
I'm still not entirely certain how I managed it. I have never multitasked quite to this degree before. I would basically edit a few pages, run to whatever area of the flat it occurred to me needed work, do that for a little while, have a smoke and a glass of water and watch TV for a few minutes, go back and edit, and repeat ad infinitum. In any case, I somehow managed to fit a week's worth of editing and at least a week's worth of cleaning into less than 48 hours. And to top it off, I even got the coatrack hung up that my sister had found me months ago, which I had been putting off for fear that I would likely drill a hole right at the exact point in my wall where it would short out the entire building. I was so proud of the results of this marathon that I took pictures.
The sense of accomplishment was enough to keep me from keeling over during grocery shopping with DGF after she arrived at 7.45 Thursday evening.
It was a thoroughly wonderful night. After half-watching a rather strange Korean film, DGF kept her arms around my shoulder the whole time as I put together what turned out to be quite possibly the best variant on my Sugo Napoli that I have ever made (I'll be posting the recipe). Not only that, she actually washed the bowls I had used to separate ingredients before adding them as I finished using them. We make quite a team!
Dinner, consisting of my new Sugo Napoli variant served over thick spaghetti with a side of Tuscan artisan bread, was enjoyed by all, judging from the substantial seconds we both took. We had so much that we ended up giving dessert a miss.
After doing the washing-up (which she insisted on doing - no objection there!
), we retired to the bedroom, where the floor was visible for the first time since before I moved in, and curled up together to watch a movie that we both dozed off in the middle of.
Whew. These past seventy two hours have certainly been interesting.
