Here's our new thread!
Hi Karin, BTW! Thanks for checking in.
Okay, the LA freeways and roads have just been ripping our tires to shreds. We got a flat in a NEW tire recently. So our big PODA:
GET NEW TIRES. We are going to go to Costco and blow our budget on new super-duper tough tires for the whole dang car. It's going to hurt, but even more than the money, we are both sick and tired (heh) of getting tires replaced, patched, fix-a-flat, putting on the spare, etc. While at Costco I'm going to get some contact lens solution and we'll also get ourselves some lunch. Big spending day! And, while we are there, we are having a housecleaner come in and get the place cleaner (gift from Mom). She is going to come here, then I'll pay her and we'll take off. She has been here once before and knows where everything is. So that takes care of some, but not all, of the home blessing. She only stays for a couple of hours and also does some deep cleaning things, so it doesn't cover absolutely everything, but the place looks better when she leaves than it did when she arrived.
put away last load laundry
picked up mail at PO
sent a stack of bills
pot roast in oven
help DS study for tests
watch TNT movie(Engagement Ring)
Bought my Xmas cards and addressed them and bought Xmas stamps. Need to write them out this week and mail them next week. Bought several gifts and wrappings but need more gifts and wrappings so that will be this week's goal as well. We'll see....
65 today and 30's tomorrow...crazy for sure. Threw out fall decor outside(cornstalks, mums) and need to get down holiday decor but DH needs to do that for me.
Jana-hope things are continuing to improve over your way, know that you've had a tough time of it lately.
Jenny-how goes it alone? Hope the girls in school helps to let you concentrate on Drew. Is someone taking and picking them up or do you have to pack the baby up both ways for that too?
Well,better check the roast
To all my Flyfriends.
The whole family went on a Mom-mandated cleaning spree yesterday, so thank goodness the house is doing better.
This TADA is for all of us, but I'm cheating and listing it all because it makes me happy to look at it!

Heidi, I almost bought pot roast for this week too. And we also have the 60 degree temps. Weird. And thanks for the reminder to pitch the mums, they are looking sorry indeed.
Becky-ouch! I hate big bills like that, but sometimes you just gotta do it. Doesn't help the sting though. It will be nice to come home to a clean house when you're done. How are your classes going?
Did I tell you all that I was spending the night in the "big city" last Friday with my DSIL? We went Christmas shopping Friday and Saturday, and had a beautiful, leasurely dinner and just chatted and relaxed. We spent 3 hours in the bookstore Friday, and only bought 3 gifts between us in there! No, we're not hooked or anything. It was a lovely time, and sorely needed.
Have a marvelous Monday all!
The boys and I went out today. Little boys, not DH. Dr. visit for Drew (checked his head and weight. Up a whole pound since last Wednesday!! 10lb 4oz!! Mama got good milks!). Wendy's for lunch, Walmart for some stuff, library to return books and movies, and my friend that has a photog. studio just to show him off. Then out to the school for more showing off. So it's been a busy day, but no flying.
Need to empty DW and fold a load of laundry.
Heidi, DH was sweet and took the girls to school, but I picked them up.
Got some plastic drawer thingees to try to organize this mess of a desk (I have no drawers, maybe that is my problem). May try to do that real quick.
Jo, sounds like a nice time.
Becky, sorry about the tires! I blew one out good a couple weeks ago in a car wash and got all new ones myself (well, two aren't on yet, had to order them. Need to do that and get my oil changed, too).
DH reminded me of an expense I'd forgotten about, so we just got the one tire replaced. Still nice to have that done though! We'll get the others replaced eventually. But the house is much cleaner now. I actually worked alongside the house cleaner for a good bit, so it's had two of us going over it.
I hate that day! Well, today really hasn't been that bad. I just hate getting back into the workday/schoolday groove, especially after a 4 day weekend!!!
I haven't done too great today, but it's because DH has my foyer/living room/dining room wrecked with decorations! He has the outdoor stuff all over the place! We won't get our tree until probably the weekend or next week, so I'll have junk sitting around for a while. When it's like this, I am totally unmotivated to clean! I just can't stand to sweep/mop around a bunch of boxes. Ugh.
I have gotten some things done today, though.
* Ran dishwasher/unloaded dishwasher
* Went to grocery store & got fixins for mine & DD's dinners for rest of the week (beef stew, homemade vegetable soup, chili, chicken cheesy soup)
* Laundry - last load in the dryer now
* Cancelled DH's dr. appointment
* Made hair appt. for myself for Wednesday - woohoo!
* Picked out clothes for both me & DD for tomorrow and changed out my purse (I change my purse with each outfit - and I get made fun of for it!)
PODA for rest of the night:
* Get crockpot out so I'll not back out of crock pot stew tomorrow
* Finish laundry
* Dust the living room
* Read magazine I haven't had time to read yet
Well, my mom kicked my stepdad out Saturday morning! They have only been married two years and she said she just couldn't take it a moment more. He is quite a bit older than she is. He is very hard of hearing and appears to be having the early symptoms of dementia. He's gone completely crazy. The straw that broke the camel's back was a huge fight he picked with her after we all left on Friday. He told her that he was the head of the household and she would do what he said, that he would give permission for anyone to come into the house (her house - they each had their house and went back & forth spending the night) or into the storage building (where my brother & I have stuff stored). BUT, the kicker was that he claims that my mom is having an incestuous relationship with my brother & called her my brother's *hore! He is totally unreasonable and will not listen to anything. She's tried to work on him, but she said that he was mega-paranoid BEFORE she married him. Why, then? Don't ask me!
Anyway, my grandparents and my brother is thrilled! I had no idea everyone in the family despised him so much. I thought he was OK, just never spent much time with him. They started dating right before we went to Russia and then married right after we got DD home. So, I guess I've been so self-absorbed I didn't have a clue!
Drama, drama, drama! And my family is NOT usually the one with drama! We leave that to DH's family. Had drama there, too. Prodigal son (for like the twentieth time!) wanted to come over on T'giving and tell all of us "good-bye" because he is leaving the state and starting his life over -- AGAIN! Yea, right. He just wanted sympathy and maybe a monetary hand-out or two. The kids said they were leaving, in-laws said no, they would call the prodigal and tell him not to come. So, he didn't come, but we feel like the inlaws are mad at all of us now. It's a really long story, but he has just totally ruined his parents' lives and drained their finances with his drug problems, paying off druggies so they wouldn't "kill" him, bailing him out of jail, etc.
So, there's my skeletons! Now you know! Really, DH and I are so "vanilla"! We are so boring and Ward & June Cleaver compared to our families! I guess everyone has their black sheep, huh?
Well, I gotta go get DD out of the tub before there's more water on the floor than in the tub!
Y'all have a great night. Romper rooms to everyone!
Wow Vonnie - regular soap opera there! My DH's brother is the same way - he is a meth addict - there I've said it! Same story. Any drug addiction is a tragic thing and lots of fallout for the family. Your meals sound good by the way = we are using our crock pot too this week - pork roast for pulled pork sandwiches and maybe chili. Had cheeseburgers tonite.
Good day here, getting tired - to bed soon.
Laundry done and put away, dinner made, dishes done. My measy TADA for a workday. Oh and I exercised.
Vonnie, I'm sorry to read of your family's problems. I hope everyone will be alright.
I'm only half-joking when I say it's time to abolish Thanksgiving as it is currently practiced. The whole country seems to come down with a case of Mad Turkey Disease this time of the year!
- driving great distances in terrible weather in order to spend time with family members whom we purposely avoid the rest of the year,
- overindulging on food and alcohol, then saying incredibly stupid things - see below,
- getting up at an indecent hour the next morning in order to stand in line in the cold and risk physical injury to save a few dollars on cr*p we don't need.
Actually, I did none of the above but still felt the effects of Mad Turkey Disease. I opted not to drive to my MIL & FIL's place in New Jersey because of the weather. Turned out to be a very good call. We had a lot of lake effect snow here, and also to the south of us. The sheriff issued a "no unnecessary driving order" on Friday afternoon. We had 15 inches of snow fall between Friday night and Saturday morning. I wouldn't have been able to get the car back into the driveway had we gone away for the weekend.
My in-laws were disappointed but they understood my unwillingness to risk the drive.
On T-day, I received a call from my husband's uncle and his wife. Apparently he had just found out that my husband was in Iraq and was surprised and upset. (My MIL says that she had told him back in August - I think they'd had way too much wine with their dinner.) Then his wife got on the phone and launched into some over-the-top histrionics - "How could you let him go???????" - yeah, like I had any say in the matter - "How are we going to get him back home?????" - well, Donald Rumsfeld doesn't return my calls but maybe if you talk to him ... SHEESH!!
It does feel good to vent!
Okay, FLYing .. I'm maintaining the basics and dealing with a few chronic hot spots. Things look and feel good.
Romper room hello's to everyone!
What horrible weather?
Oh right, other parts of the country/ world have horrible weather around this time of year. HA!
Actually the reason I like Thanksgiving is that it's the time of year both DH's and my families are on their BEST behavior. Also because we just flat-out don't see the relatives we dislike, after one TG that was a bit unpleasant.
Good morning, Ladies.
I goofed off the WHOLE DAY on Monday. I went on a bird walk at the zoo, and one of the other participants and I drove to a few of my favorite spots and kept at it until 5 p.m. So I have double duty today!
Rose, you summed up Thanksgiving pretty well! Christmas is about the same, I think.
DS off to school
make grocery list
Aldi for groceries
BJ's for lunch meat
gas up van
vacuum 1st floor
Gotta run,personals later...
giggle AND not feel so alone. Normally, my family is "vanilla" too but I guess we have been storing up!
In DH's family anyway. His mother is very controlling, but we just say no to her and it drives her bananas! He does have a gay sister (mom & dad are devout catholics) and a brother who is an alcoholic/cocaine addict too, so the drama potential is very high at any family gathering there. Too bad we didn't get to spend Thanksgiving with them. NOT!
cleaned out silverware drawer
dinner in the crockpot
sent column to paper
Wilson Language Training
Take DD to ballet
It is very, very windy today and I anticipate power loss. We also have already set a record high temp at 65!
LOL! Ya'll are cracking me up, too. We just try to get along with everyone. We are usually with DH's family and we all get along great. And we get along with his extended family well. But man, they do some screwed up things sometimes!! As for my family, well, we don't do any holidays with my father. Ugh! I think us and my immediate inlaws are pretty "vanilla".
I overdid it yesterday and am feeling a bit sore today. Chance was really pissed that daddy didn't take him yesterday, so he bundled up and went to haul hay today. Just me and the baby, I hope to rest some. Do some laundry, a little picking up, and some reading, I hope. Or scrapbooking. I don't know. Just not much.
I'm going to anyway. Things are shaping up nicely. At first I thought I was behind, but looked at last week plan on my post and realized I'm right on schedule:) I've completed the layout of serving pieces and staging areas for Saturday's party. I think I'll start baking some items today, finish with others tomorrow. (Will freeze cookies to keep them fresh)
YMCA- 1 hour on treadmill (it's been awhile)
clear up extra items from dining room table
vacuum first floor
bake cookies from freezer dough
pick up DS
dinner (chicken alfredo and salad)
DS to boyscouts
shopping with DH or bake home to bake some more?
Jenny, hope you're taking it easy today
romper room hellos to all, got to go
somehow I posted message twice???
This "vanilla" stuff is makikng me bust a gut....too funny! Ok our family is the flavor of the month. In a nutshell, my parents were older when I came along...and NOT married which was a shock for that era....they finally got married when I was 10....they were waiting for my moms first husband to die (I swear you can't make this stuff up). Plus both my parents were alcoholics. Hubby's parents divorced when he was 3, and his dad doesn't acknowledge him. My MIL has been married 5 times, her current being addicted to porno. So basically we have made our own family traditions in our marriage of 20 years. Sometimes I think we are the only normal ones of them all. So we do cook Thanksgiving dinner, invite everyone, those who don't get along don't come which is fine with me, like I need the stress!!!! And they wonder why I'm nuts? LMAO!
This is very funny guys! Marlene - wow - you have been through a lot. If you can't laugh you'll cry about some of this stuff. Loved your tree by the way.
Susan, sounds like you are right on track, even exercising wow.
Hey Lois, sounds like a great day.
Jenny, it sounds like Drew is doing great! Glad you can get some quiet time in there. You are really doing a lot.
Well, typical day today - DD had Brownies - cheated on dinner - frozen chicken enchiladas and sauteed green beans (at least those were from scratch). Did some more Xmas shopping online and printed out our cookie exchange invites - they turned out cute.
my PODA minus the vacuuming
We need to start another thread titled"What's your skeleton" or "Who wants to be a black sheep?" Every family has colorful characters and they tend to resurface during holidays for sure.
Jenny-hope you didn't do too much today. I remember that honeymoon period after having my kids when you are on such a high that you end up doing too much and then CRASH,so rest and sleep whenever possible!
Andrea-what cookies are you making for the exchange? Is it for family or work?
I am going to join a women's gym that is nearby. I want to go 2 times a week(while DD is in preschool). That leaves me 2 other days to run errands, appointments etc while she is in school(she goes 4 days a week). Wish me luck. If I lose weight that would be a bonus, mainly I am getting older and have a family history of heart, stroke, diabetes, etc that I want to trim some of those chances from happening to me.
Time to get DD in bed,see ya all in the morning.
No clue what I"m making Heidi - it is not until Dec. 18th. WE do it every year, rotate houses - fun. We have a few new neighbors this year to replace some who moved away. Good luck on your exercise.
Not sure if I'm working today - DD may be sick - if not I will post later
Because it means I don't have any office hours! Not that I am not going to be busy today; I have a to-do list out the wazoo! I accomplished a lot yesterday & that's the main reason why I didn't post here; I was on a roll for a change!
My TADAs (from Tuesday):
* Unload dishwasher
* Put away load of undies
* Dusted, cleaned glass tops & cleaned floors (DH got decoration boxes out of the house - yipee!)
* Reserved Chuck E. Cheese for DD's b'day (party is on a Fri. nite - not my first choice, but was about all that was left)
* Went to Target and got party invites, goodie bags, found a fleece reversible jacket for my Mom on sale 1/2 price at $9.88, and got two baby gifts and gift bags for girls at church, and got Christmas cards
* Took DD to my nephew's JV basketball game
* Made phone calls to SIL and SM (step-mom) regarding gifts ideas for kids in family
* Made Christmas card list
* Paid bills - big SLUG accomplished
My PODA for today:
* Laundry - one load is already going
* Put beef stew in crockpot for tonite
* Hair appt. (cut & color) at 10:30 a.m.; finish DD's ADHD assessment while I'm processing
* Address b'day party invites and prepare ones that have to be mailed
* Start addressing Christmas cards
* Make deposit at credit union
* Check cedar chest for Christmas decorations
* Order my "dream" jeans from Coldwater Creek
* Check online for some gift availability (lazy shopping - I love it!)
* Motivate DH to move computer desk out of our bedroom, clean up that area, hook satellite to VCR and then put dog's kennel in that space
* If satellite works hooked to VCR, get DH to change living room to that configuration as well
* Print up postcard invites for family dutch treat b'day party on 20th
My Mom is picking up DD today, so I should have time to get all of this done. Unless I poop out, of course! I don't have the motivation I used to have. I think it's because for everything I do, it gets undone by either DD or DH within minutes. That's sort of depressing! I KNOW you gals kwim!
Have a great day ladies!
Ok I got today off because DH and I witnessed a drunk driver rear end a young girl and RUN OFF! We chased him and got his plate #. Today we go to court. So I got today off but will do some things around here as well plus do some running around. I will let you know how the case went.
Oh my goodness Marlene, how terrible. Was she ok??
Vonnie, your lists look about like mine. I am home with DD today which is nice, she really seems fine, but am I taking the day off? No - too much to do.
See ya later!
DS off to school
made vet appt.
1 load laundry
DD to preschool,pay tuition
drop off check
produce at market
put away laundry
Marlene-what a good Samaritan you are. The world needs more like you!
Andrea- enjoy your day "off"!! Hope Dd feels better
Vonnie-what's this about ADHD? Did I miss something? Wow,you have an overambitious PODA.
Vonnie, what's with the ADHD?
Feeling better today after my day off yesterday. I didn't take advantage of Drew's naps like I should have. I ended up falling asleep in the recliner about 4:00 while the girls were outside riding bikes. Then again about 10:00, leaving DH to deal with Chance. Drew is such a snuggler though, we just nap in the recliner together. Then we made out the hidabed and slept in the living room again (since Chance had took over my spot in the bedroom). But that's ok, Drew and I are fine snuggling on the sofa.
We had dinner in the crock pot (Pot Roast) last night and the house smelled good all day long. Oh, and the TV stayed off almost all day! Right up til DH came home. When he is in the house, it's like the TV must be on. But I listened to the radio all day and enjoyed lots of Christmas music.
Oh, I don't know what to do today. Back up my computer for one. Go thru the mail from the last week or so. I wrote thank you notes yesterday, need to get them out to the mailbox somehow (they may not make it today, mail comes in 30 minutes and I'm not leaving baby alone with Chance, but not taking them with me either. The box isn't right by the house. So, it may wait til I go pick up the girls from school and go out tomorrow). I need to do some sewing desperately (costumes for the girls for next weeks Christmas program, bloomers for cheerleaders. I decided it would be cheaper to attempt to make them than buying new ones. And a quilt that needs to get done before Christmas, but probably won't).
Time to go!
ADHD - we think DD probably has it. Many internationally adopted children do. She has a lot of the behaviors, but the assessment will determine if it's reactive attachment disorder or ADHD.
Yes, my PODA was quite ambitious, especially for me - the 3 item PODA Queen!! LOL!! So, what did I actually accomplish? Well, TADA:
* Laundry is finished
* Had divine beef stew from the crockpot
* Hair appt. (cut & color) - I feel like a *new* woman!!!
* Addressed b'day party invites and prepare ones that have to be mailed; won't mail just yet as party is not until 12/16
* Checked online for some gift availability; waiting for DN & DN list of wants before I make final order on Amazon
* Satellite is not working in bedroom regardless of what is hooked up; called Direct TV and pitched a fit that they want to charge me $60 to send a tech out. They are sending me a new receiver to change out; hopefully that will solve the problem.
* Printed up postcard invites for family dutch treat b'day party on 20th; not mailing these quite yet, either
* Took DD to AWANA
* Got DH's b'day gift and cards
* Picked up a clothes organizer for my grandmother to give DD for Christmas - it's really cool with a slot for each day's clothes that you put in on the weekend & she can dress herself all week!
* Start addressing Christmas cards
* Make deposit at credit union
* Check cedar chest for Christmas decorations
I am going to put deposit in night box at credit union on the way to work tomorrow.
I just couldn't stand to move the heavy Remington statue on the cedar chest to see about decorations; I'll let DH do that.
Christmas cards? Well, I have no excuse for that. I need to do that tomorrow since I've got the laundry done.
DH cleaned up the living room floor today! Moved the furniture, vacuumed the sofa & chair cushions. He did a great job. I guess he gave up on me ever doing that. I swear I'd pay someone to come in and do the floors weekly. I HATE sweeping & mopping.
Well, I need to run. I'm going to go over my Christmas list and call my stepmother before bed.
Talk to you all later!
What is it with me and the stupid crockpot? I had a beautiful beef stew in there for Tuesday, our super-busy run-around day, and I forgot to plug the stupid thing in. Again. I felt like SUCH and idiot.
1 load laundry
got on the treadmill yeaterday!
getting along with the teenagers-now THAT is a major accomplishment lately
made lentil stew and curried carrot soup
cleaned the shop office and mopped floor
cleaned the shop bathroom and mopped floor

High School Parent Group meeting tonight
My priest friend has a Benedictine Monk from Scotland staying with him, and the lentil stew and curried carrot soup was for them. They were most appreciative, which is always a really nice feeling.
My parents left for "down south" for the winter. I'm feeling pretty sad because my mom is just so fun. I really miss her, and she won't be back until May. Sigh.
We are supposed to get another pretty big snow storm tomorrow. Yeah! I love snow.
Have a good one ladies!
Alexa is so beautiful! I wouldn't be able to resist playing with all that gorgeous curly hair. (Hope that doesn't sound creepy!)
I just got back from having the snow tires put on the car, thus ensuring that there will be no more snow this winter
Romper room hellos to everyone!
HI guys -
Just popping in briefly - just got home from work and am getting ready to exercise or something before the kids get home.
The pictures are great Jackie - Penney's did a nice job!
Bummer about your stew Jo, I've done that before.
Vonnie, gosh you are getting a lot done.
Well, I'm off - they will be home in 36 minutes!
Good afternoon Ladies.
5 loads of laundry

I have been having hot flashes lately. Oy. Such fun. I can go from shivering to sweating in 10 seconds flat.

Dog's tendon is unattached to bone and that's why she is still walking on 3 legs. Surgery will be in neighborhood of $700 including cast, meds, etc OUCH in more ways than one!!
There's a new portrait studio by us that prints out the pictures in 15 minutes so you leave with them the same day and it's only $9.95 and you get a large package with lots of wallets, which we include in Xmas cards so that's great.
DD had a great time on her all day field trip to the Children's Museum. I enjoyed being childless, which doesn't happen often enough!!!
I hear the bus....see ya
It's been a busy couple of days. I've posted all about it on my blog:
But just to give you the basic scoop:
We had a grassfire here yesterday. It burned 36,000 acres. It burned 75% of my ranch, but all my cows and my house escaped (barely). I was evacuated out, the school and entire village was evacuated. But we are back home and all is well now, except for the damage. More about all that in my blog. But just wanted to let ya'll know what's going on here!
I just came from reading your blog and seeing the pictures. How frightening. I'm so glad everyone is ok, and that your house is, too. You'll have enough to worry about with the cows and grass situation without adding that to the list! Keep letting us know how you are getting along.
"We must have patience for love, born of an accidental look." --Me
What an ordeal! I'm so glad you're okay. It must have been terrifying for your children - how are they doing today?
THAT is scary! Glad that you all are ok though. I used to live in El Paso and know all too well what happens in the dry climate!
I am so sorry for this trouble - now of all times!! I haven't seen your pictures yet, but wow. Thoughts and prayers with you - I'm glad you are safe.
Heid, ouch on the vet bill. Glad you enjoyed osme quiet time. Is that Digiquick? I've seen their photos and they are good.
I'm off guys - keep us posted Jenny.
I'm sorry about the fire Jenny! I'm glad you and the house and cows survived.
Jenny, I'm so sorry to hear about the fire! You must have been terrified. We get fires here in Arizona every summer, but not in the city. How frightening to feel so helpless. I will keep you and your town in my prayers.
Ok, time to get back in the saddle.
It's Friday and I have only been home one day this week (Monday was spent erranding, Tuesday was home resting and recovering from Monday, Wednesday was evacuation/fire day, and yesterday was surveying the damage from fire day). Today I have to catch up. Laundry is in dire straits (and now I'm singing their songs. LOL!). Dinner? Whose cooked dinner in days?! Bathrooms are horrible, kitchen is, well, not too bad.
No school again today. Still cleaning over there (deionizing the place I was told). The wind is going to blow today, should be really lovely sand storms with no grass to hold the sand in.
Baby wants breakfast.
So glad you are okay. My thoughts are with you!
Fire is so scary. That is just awful.
I am having one of those Nobody Likes Me, Everyone Hates Me, Guess I'll Go Eat Worms Days.
Calgon, Take Me Away!
I'll try for a post later when I'm in a more positive (hopefully) state of mind.
Jenny-I left a comment on your blog, but again I am so sorry to hear this news and hope for a quick return to "normal".
Jo-sorry you are in the dumps, feel better soon!
DS off to school
talked to friend
make cookies with DD
keep the fire roaring
movie or game night
The snow is falling and falling and I can barely see out my windows. Good stay inside day today....
Check back later
shoveled front and back walks
DS to second opinion orthodontist
Subway for lunch
Target for new snow boots for DS and DD
played in snow with the kids
make a big pot of soup
wrap a few Xmas gifts to get a start on it at least
baths and showers
well it looks like the second opinion is the one we will go with. He gave us the same diagnosis for DS but he is about $800 less and is a jolly older man with a great personality and DS likes him. His office isn't as fancy as the first guy but I don't care about that plus that's why the first guy probably was more expensive,to pay for all his bells and whistles!! So Braces here we come!! DS is about to turn 11 so he should be done with braces by the time he starts high school maybe even sooner.
Sorry so off topic.
Jackie- I just read an article about the pharmacist shortage in the US. Guess that's good job security for you, right??!!
Vonnie- have you heard about a patch that may be coming out for kids with ADHD? it would be used instead of taking the drug, kinda like the quitting smoking patch, pretty interesting.
Well,if we are gonna have soup tonight I better go make it....
Oh andrea the name of the 15 minute portrait place is Portrait Innovations but I guess it sounds like the same one you described just a different company. Have you used them before?
Howdy from the land of nothing. The wind has been blowing for two days, and at times, we can't even see the trees in front of the house. It's horrible!! The dust in the air is just choking, even in the house. Ugh.
I got three loads of laundry done yesterday, got the kitchen cleaned today. The girls stayed the night at MIL's last night, Chance slept a little better. They are back, all are outside, baby is sleeping, I'm enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet. And I'm having a sweet tooth attack, not sure what I should fix to help that. LOL! Not sure I even have anything to help that!
Heidi, glad you found a better deal all around on the braces.
Ya'll have a good day!
I took the little prince out for a haircut today, and that's about it for our excursions. It's nice to be able to hunker down at home, drink tea, knit and craft. I finished a dishcloth and made a fleece scarf for my MIL.
Just as I predicted, we missed out on all of the lake effect snow this time around. They had to close the I-81 about 20 miles south of here yesterday - but not a flake in my yard. It's the snow tire corollary of Murphy's Law LOL!
Jenny, I saw today's pictures on your blog - scary. Will the fire affect the pH of the soil? Will you be able to grow hay next year, or will it take a while for the soil to be ready again?
Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend.
Sounds like a nice day Rose - I'm surprised you didn't get any snow.
Heidi, in our area it is Digi-Quick, but probably the same idea. I have not used them, but a friend did and the pictu4res were great. We did Mom and Dad's photo studio tonite - that will be the pictures you guys get.
Hey Jackie and Jo! Jo - did you get your Calgon?!
Jackie - do you know what you're having? Can't remember.
Must run - gotta get kiddos to bed.
Post office (yes be on the lookout for my xmas cards, even those whom are across the sea )
Shopping for a black handbag that looks professional ( I have a job interview on Monday!)
Scrub bathroom floor
Lynn, the site is operating smoothly on my end as well!
Marlene - I can't believe your cards are out - wow! I am feeling so behind this year. I walked into a friend's house yesterday and it looked GORGEOUS - garland on the stairs, lights everywhere, sleds on the front porch, the whole bit. I told her I still have pumpkins on my front porch!! Pathetic.
So...today I will
a bunch of other swuff on my PODA too
Off tgo shower now and get moving. I did a lot of cleaning and decluttering this am already so am ready for Xmas decor.
Ok, I will admit, I usually get personalized cards to help out with all that writing. Plus I had to get most of this done before school starts again tomorrow! Speaking of which, we are slated to get 8 inches of snow tomorrow, and I have a job interview as well. Should be interesting!
Wow, wish we would get that much. We have a couple inches now with some more coming every day this week. I am finally ready for winter and snow I think. Wish it would leave us by the end of January, but it usually stick around through March at least. I'm still impressed you got your cards out. Where is your interview, by the way>
I've gotten a lot done - still more to do of course. The kids are both at playdates, which helped immensely. Got everything vacuumed, dust mopped and dusted and have done some decor. We probably won't get our tree till next weekend but I want to get the rest done now. Cards too - I picked them up - turned out nice.
OK< I'm off!
Just popping by to let you all know I have plenty of leftovers if anyones hungry???
Jenny, about that sweet tooth, I wish you were closer I have fudge, bon bons, buckeyes, peppermint bark, magic bars, and about 8 different kinds of cookies, not to mention m&ms and hershey minatures
I'm estimating we had about 150 people here last night. Many came and stayed the whole time. There were a few times the kitchen was very crowded (while the living room laid vacant???) I suppose I should have put some food in that room too
This week I have a group of ladies on Monday and another group on Wednesday that will be coming for lunch. I plan on recreating something with the party foods.
Jamielea, I saw the pictures of your home for Christmas. They are beautiful. It amazes me how much you accomplish with two little ones and homeschooling.
Jackie and Jo, sorry for the tough days. I hope you have found a little R&R time for yourselves.
Romper room hellos to all others.
Susan, I'm so glad the party went well!! I'll be over for buckeyes in a little bit. LOL!
Well, we made it to church this morning. Chance was REALLY well behaved, very un-Chancelike. DH insisted on going out to reward them all on being good, even though I wanted to go home and feed baby. But who am I to turn down a good meal? Of course, baby got hungry just as the food was served, so I spent a few minutes feeding him in the restroom (nice restaurant, had a chair in their just for that purpose).
Rose, not sure the answer on the PH of the soil. But not much farmland burned. Of the 35,000 acres burned, not much at all was farmland, but mostly grass/pasture and CRP (CRP is a gov't. program when the gov't pays you NOT to farm it. So it had been unused for many years. Crop Reserve Program I think is what it stands for. Helps control erosion and dustbowl effect. That is, when it's not all burned up. LOL!). The farmland that was burned won't be hurt at all. In fact, many people burn off the stubble of farmland before plowing and planting again (of course, they do this on non-windy days to keep it controlled). So that is normal. If you have read any of the little house on the prairie books, remember that grass fires were not uncommon in the plains. Mostly caused by lightening, a fire storm often tore across the prairie. Which is why there are so few trees around here. The land will heal and come back better than ever. It just takes a little time for it to do so. This fire was no different than that back then, except this one was caused by man not nature.
I need to do some picking up around here. DH went to a music picking. If he gets back early enough, we may get out Christmas decorations. But I'm betting he won't and it will be later in the week that we will do that (or next weekend, though DH will be gone for a school board thing in Alb. for a few days then).
Baby crying, gotta go!!
That's great Susan - I figured it would be a success! Send those leftovers on over please. I can't believe you had 150 in your house. I am having 22 for a Xmas party on the 18th and I"m worried!
Hey Jenny - glad Chance held it together in church.
Well, I"m off to finish cooking dinner - roast chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and sauteed spinach with canellinis.
2 loads laundry,1 folded
played in snow with kids again
Marc's for odds and ends
baked pumpkin pie
Susan-now you can give out baked goods as Xmas gifts!! Glad it all went so well.
I need to compose a letter and deliver it to the snowplow driver's house. He won't answer his messages and has not been here to plow and we have tons of snow. He did my neighbor's driveway and didn't do ours!! Then we have been trying him all day to no avail. Frustrating!! So I mapquested his address from the contract and will drop the letter off to his house tomorrow.
That sounds fantastic Marlene! Best of luck to you tomorrow!
Heidi, what a bummer about the snowplow guy - man! DH shovels ours, but we have a friend who plows for 10 bucks a pop so are considering that -cheaper than a snowblower.
Well, we are kind of Christmasy around here - need to do outdoor lites and the tree still. Got some gifts wrapped.
I'm flavorful as well, dh's family is the normal one (well, immediate family. Now some of his cousins, they take the cake!!). I turned vanilla when I got out of the house at 16. LOL!
How are you girls? We are doing good- flapping not really flying I have been working a few days extra and it has been killing me! Im not sure its chasing after crazy gilr or being pg. I am way too routine so I think I get too thrown off if I cant do things on the days I usually do. Sheesh I need to go with the flow better.
Jenny, glad to hear everything is going good. How is Chance with his baby brother?
Vonnie, I need to get a move on my Christmas cards too. Here is a quick link:

Andrea, my interview is with Carilion Health Systems. They are a huge non-profit health care system here in Roanoke. The position is for Imaging center rep. Basically I get to play with all the office machines and put documents together. Wish me luck!
