"I'm Too Pretty to Do Math"

Riddle me this, Batgirl: Why don't companies sell self-loathing merchandise to men? I dearly hope there aren't any TNH readers who'd wear such things, or worse, let their daughters wear such things. T'ain't funny, McGee.

woohoo! boycott worked!
Abercrombie & Fitch pulled the loathsome t's after a national boycott by teenaged girls. Yay girls!

I'm so glad!
Between things like this and Bratz dolls, I worried for the future of our girls. I'm glad to see sanity prevail.
too bad
Too bad they pulled those. I'm sorry, but I think that if you want to wear the shirt, it's your right. Not everybody has the same personality, some will wear them ironically and some will wear them literally. So? You can't stop people from being offensive if they want to be. I've got bigger problems. Plus, I kinda like the one that sais, "I had a nightmare. I was a brunette." (I have dark hair)I like the dumb ones too. Sometimes you really want poeple to underestemate you.
Hear, Hear!
I am very thankful to see the wisdom expressed in the first few messages here. (I am a university educator and researcher in math education and gender issues.) These t-shirts and magnets are still being sold by David & Goliath and others who carry their merchandise. We need to educate people about the harmful messages carried by demeaning statements like these. Once again, we tell females that their value lies in their looks and that looks and brains are mutually exclusive. Well, guess what? Females live 5.2 years longer than males and earn 80 cents on the dollar compared to males for comparable work. And math and computer science occupations rank third highest of the Department of Labor's 22 major job classifications in annual wages. Better count on something other than looks to secure a quality future!
