Right wingers Ticked off about Bush nominee
I've been enjoying all of the fighting on this
conservative site:
http://www.townhall.com/blogs/c-log/J%20Garthwaite/story/2005/10/03/159236.html
Seems like the conservatives are a bit pissed by
bush's choice ... should a liberal be happy about it?

Let's tread carefully.
We haven't had a political dust-up in a while, folks. The next few days may turn out to be extremely interesting in the Chinese sense of the term, and I'm expecting tempers to flare. So let's be as gentle with each other as we can.
As to Miers, I'm not surprised conservatives don't like her. I don't like her either (though I'm sure she's a perfectly nice person--I'm talking liking her as a nominee). Few people think she's qualified.
Course, she has a hella funny blog.

Please....
tell me that BLOG is a joke! It's not really hers, right?
Lauralyn
Yeah,
That's a joke.
Rose
it is
But the scary thing is, in many letters of hers that have surfaced she writes EXACTLY like that, down to the multiple exclamation points.

No Passion
I can't work up much interest in this topic.
All I can say is that, however folks like Hugh Hewitt and the Cornerites may disagree on Miers, they are never going to end up on opposite sides. Pro- and anti-Miers groups agree on far too much for that. The Republican party, after all, still allows for dissent and free thought among its members.
See what I mean?
From the Corner (mostly anti-Miers) today.
"NO HACK [Stanley Kurtz]
Hugh Hewitt is no hack. Read his last post and you’ll know. One of the things that makes Hugh’s post so great is that he drops the elitism bit. The whole hack/elitism thing is silly, wrong, and counterproductive. I hope it’s over. And Hugh’s right to be ticked at the tendency to read Miers supporters out of the conservative movement, the Republican coalition, or whatever you want to call it. Thank goodness we’ve got Hugh on our side and he is on our side, despite all the differences on Miers.
[Intervening paragraphs in which he debates some of Hewitt's points...]
...Anyway, we’re having a worthy debate. I’m glad Hugh’s in it and very much on our side."
And Shaun, try being a pro-life Democrat on for size. (There are pro-abortion Republicans aplenty.)
oops you spilled!
I think your passion leaked out a bit here!

I am one
A pro-life Dem, that is. No one's kicked me out yet.

wrong state
I can't speak to Georgia politics, but a couple of governors ago Minnesota had a pro-life Democrat gov, and there is still a large coalition of pro-life Dems in the state, including office-holders. So I can't grant you that point.
But I didn't want to debate you! My little joke was not that you were wrong, but that no matter how little passion you have on the subject of Miers (a position apparently shared by the rest of TNH) you couldn't resist an implicit dig on what you would consider the "other side." Sorry if that got your back up!
Shaun
What are you implying?
Are you implying that republicans are more tolerant than democrats? That it's harder to be an anti-abortion democrat than a pro-abortion republican? Or that there are more republicans that are for abortion rights than there are democrats against abortion rights?
On what evidence do you base your assumptions?
