Clearing Clutter, Liberating Ourselves! September

Zillah's picture

Hello Declutterers, where are you? I've decluttered 3 big bin bags full of stuff and I have no-one to boast to! I've also decluttered a load of grease off the extractor hood over our hob. Mmmmmmmmmmm. I've now taken the window cleaning spray to the stainless steel and it looks lovely Smiling.

Tomorrow I pack for our holiday, and then on Friday my MIL comes to look after DB while I attempt to study. However, I know I'll probably end up doing more house packing.

How's everyone else doing?

Zillah

Here...sorta

Hi Zillah.

I'm plugging away. I'm decluttering lesson plans this evening, though, rather that anything home-related. The DDs have settled into a pretty good before- and after-school routine which is what is keeping the house from getting too out-of-hand. I'm up to my eyeballs getting aclimated to my own routines. I'm not liking the 5:30 am alarm clock at all!

I hope you have a productive next couple of days...and then a lovely holiday!

Blessings,
Lenora

Friday

Well, I've decluttered another week at "work/school!" I can't tell you how much I'm loving being in the classroom every day...but GOSH do I come home exausted!...Fridays are going to be happy days, I can tell!

I only made it through halftime at the football game tonight...it's all about the band anyways! Eye-wink

I came home from the game about 9:15, have had two glasses of wine, and have "decluttered" the old polish off finger and toe nails and have fresh paint on the toes and am halfway through the second coat (third counting the base coat) on the fingers.

Sad to say...that's as productive as I'm planning on being tonight! Big grin

Tomorrow I'll be catching up on laundry and lesson plans...you will all quickly get tired of heraing me say that, I know!

I hope all is well with you guys. check in, even briefly, when you can!

Love to all!

Blessings,
Lenora

Glad to see someone drug our

Glad to see someone drug our declutter thread up from the depths.

What is a hob, Zillah? I'm assuming it is your cookstove? I love knowing what other people call stuff.

Lenora, sounds like you are falling right in the routine of teacher. The first few weeks of a job are so hard on a body. Then it seems to get easier.

I've about completed decluttering my office. It looks so much better than it has since we've been moved in this house. Lots of sorting, pitching and cleaning this past week. Much easier to find what I need now.

Wonder when Hope is going to pop back in? She must be about settled in her new house by now.

Strange weeks

Yay, a new thread! Smiling

My husband was able to take three days off and be out of the office for 9 days (with the holiday and his usual off Friday), so he did. He really needed a break. There was a cheap airfare and we went to visit his parents in Florida for a few of those days, went fishing a couple of days, and spent a good bit of time relaxing. So nice! Smiling

But of course, almost nothing got done around the house. Now we're back and he'll be extremely busy next week. My SIL and I are taking a couple of weeks off from the shared work days due to the vacation, which is a nice break, too. Her husband is going to be starting a small business and he and his partner need someone to help cover some hours for them. They're offering me a part-time job, which is nice, but now I need to decide whether it's something I want to do or not. I'd like to help them out, but I'm a little afraid of getting sucked into more time than I really want to spend. And it's family, which always has the potential to complicate things. We also have some friends who are having a baby around Christmas. The mother is a teacher and only gets 6 weeks off, so they'll be looking for someone to watch the baby after that. We hadn't discussed it yet, but I was considering helping them out, too. I guess it's time to do some hard thinking about what I want to be doing.

Decluttering...

...more space on my lapels: I've been invited to join the Golden Key International Honor Society for being in the top 15% at the University (enrollment about 30,000). I don't join every group that invites, but this one is fairly well recognized so I think membership will be a good thing...at least until I land a job! Besides...I'll get to wear the honor cords at graduation! Anything to liven up those horrible, black robes! Eye-wink

Other than that, I'm getting geard up to begin active teaching on Monday. I still need to outline my "opening" talk" to the kids and draft a letter home to the grown-ups of my students as a means of introducing myself.

The house is teetering on the edge of o-kay...I'd still invite an unexpected guest in without being mortified..but it's getting close! I think the novelty of daily routine has worn off, but we've not crossed into "automatic mode" yet so this has been a hard week.

Added to that I'm feeling yucky, too. I cam home at lunch today, and slept until DD15 got home.

Speaking of DD15, she's getting her "letter" in academics tonight. All 4 grading periods on the honor roll last year. She already has a "letter" for band...but I'm more proud of this one! I'm also proud that the school makes a bigger "fuss" about these letters than the activity ones...those are given out at the activities banquets....this is an All school/community ceremony and open house.

Greetings to all my TNH friends...how goes it "out there?"

Blessings,
Lenora

Well done Lenora!

Hi all

I haven't been decluttering anything lately, so I feel a fraud posting here at all. I'm just popping in to say I had a snail mail letter from Kerri today in which she says I'm to say hi to you all. SO.....hi from Kerri! They are in their new house now, and both kids have school places, which is a weight off Kerri and her DH's minds as they nearly had to go to appeal to get DD in. They are having problems getting online though (hence the snail mail).

Okay, mission accomplished, I'm back off to lazy lurkdom. I'll post again when I have something to report! Big grin

Boot!

We drop off the page so quickly! Sticking out tongue I have absolutely NOTHING declutterish to report...just wanted to get the thread back "up" there!

OH! DD15 has a date for the Homecoming dance. I guess I can claim that we "decluttered" the shopping for a dress this afternoon! She made a lovely choice...AND decided she could use the jewelry and shoes from last year! That's my girl! Eye-wink

Blessings,
Lenora

Got rid of two boxes of cloth

Got rid of two boxes of clothes for a Katrina Drive at the school. They were hand me downs anyway, I picked thru and got the dresses out (cute dresses are so hard to find anymore!!). Never even unpacked the boxes (also a bag of shoes). Gave one to each of the girls' classes, and it put the 3rd grade over the top and they won a pizza party for having the most stuff to donate. Cool!!

Fun errand today

Let's see, what have I been up to. My husband and I were on vacation for a week, which was nice, and then he was sent on a business trip out to CA for a few days. I didn't really do that much housework while he was gone; it was nice to have a couple of days to myself. I was definitely ready for him to come back, though. Smiling

My SIL was supposed to come over today and help me finish the painting in my guest room, but she's not feeling well so she's not able to come. I think I'll go run some errands instead--I need to send some mail and make a trip to one of our local yarn shops for some knitting help. I should really exercise, too--vacation went to my waist. It's also laundry day, and I need to make a menu and grocery list and go to the store. Some of that will probably have to roll over to tomorrow.

My husband and I did get a shelf bought and put up in the mudroom over the weekend. A very good thing--now I have a place to put the things I often take outside with me, like insect repellant and gardening gloves. Smiling

You would think.....

...that with most of us posting once-a-week or less....we'd have tons of things to write about. Sticking out tongue Not Me! Not today!

Today I am working on (say it with me friends) laundry and lesson plans.

The DDs are outside enjoying a beautiful fall afternoon and the lizard is basking in the window. All is peaceful at the moment.

Lenora

Got my new book...

...last night...but I had Parent-Teacher conferences after school today, then popped into a meeting at church...and I still have quizzes to grade from 3 periods before I have any time to begin it. Sad

LOST begins in half an hour, so I think I'll sit with my tests and watch that while I grade. DH is out-of-town at a "Robotics and Vision Systems" show (!!!) So the DDs and I have been pretty lazy about housekeeping/eating...all that everyday stuff!

We'll have to do a marathon tidying session tomorrow after school.

Mount Wash-more is threatening with to erupt from the closet out into the bedroom so that needs to go on the list, too.

What's up with you, friends?

Blessings,
Lenora

In the middle....

...of decluttering and organising the Dungeon (aka my bedroom). Yup, almost four years after discovering Flylady and TNH, my bedroom is STILL the place where everything ends up, and the one room in the house that is NEVER company ready....good job I never have company in there then! Eye-wink I do want it to be nice just for me though...and I hate being in there because it's always a tip.

So this morning I decided enough was enough and I have been in there on and off all day, in between dealing with Mount Washmore - we have one of those too Big grin I'm on my coffee break right now Big grin Gotta go - I'm allowing myself half an hour and I have emails to read/send as well as checking in here....

Today I...

...have a cold. Sticking out tongue

I didn't get sick all summer, but now all of a sudden when we're supposed to go do a couple of things with friends, I get one. Go figure. I think I caught it from my nephew when I was babysitting him on Monday (though I suppose I could've also picked it up when I went shopping after). Oh well.

So today not that much got done. I took it easy, worked on the hat I'm knitting, vacuumed the upstairs, and took the dropcloths out of the guest room we finally finished painting. Looks nice in there. Smiling I'm hoping tomorrow I'll feel well enough to go to a movie, though it might just have to wait until Saturday.

DS is bugging me for the computer - he's off sick with very little voice and a slightly raised temperature last night. It's not like they do anything at school anyway!

Decluttering?? More like rearranging the clutter we've got with us. We're off to look again for a computer desk tomorrow, and some storage, maybe a television thing, not that we have a television yet! Haven't had time to watch one anyway since I've been shopping for hours almost every day. When you have no stock of anything you suddenly discover how many little things are missing for even the simplest of recipes. DH brought me cornflour in Singapore because I'd only seen it in cardboard boxes here, not convenient tins. Mum now tells me that she's seen it in tins in a convenient supermarket for me! DH brought a load of food and kitchen items back. Our bedside lamp was the only casualty out of ALL the things we've brought with us, but it was a cylinder of glass. I think we've been pretty lucky really. Actually damn lucky all in all. Every time we think that we're missing something here that we could get in Singapore it mysteriously appears somewhere. Things are just working out somehow, without too much heartache. Not that it's easy going, but it could've been a whole lot worse.

And now I have to start getting my head round Christmas too since it's October tomorrow!! I want to get back on here regularly now it's set up and I have more time to myself mostly. I wonder whether Hope's decided that having weaned herself off coming here she now gets a lot more done. I miss her, although I've missed all of you for most of the last three months!

must read up on the Christmas Countdown, which probably starts about now if it hasn't already, see if I can get myself sorted a bit for that. I certainly need some help this year.

DS is antsy, so I'm outta here...

in orange tins, like Bournville chocolate or something, where you have to remove the foil under the lid. And that company's been around forever selling cornflour in those orange tins. Weird that I can't get it here any more.

cornstarch in tins?

They don't have that here as far as I know, only in boxes.
