My first blog attempt seems to have been scrambled somehow. Forgive me if I end up repeating myself.
I've ended the media fast, so here I am, reporting back! Pretty much stuck to it with a few exceptions. (DH talked me into watching *Kung Fu Hustle* with him. It was pretty good! Weird, but funny.) I read a bit here and there, without even thinking about it, but definitely stayed away from internet forums, radio, and most videos. I allowed the kids to watch their videos, though. There just ain't no homeschooling in this house without the occasional electronic distraction for busy toddlers.
This month brought another major change: I was offered, and accepted, a temporary full-time job. I am now what I never thought I'd be: a working mom. DH has taken over the homeschooling. I have the job until Christmas if I need it, then they will hire a replacement. I started Monday.
I have to admit, it's been a bit wrenching for me, even though I am grateful to have been considered (they knew our situation). I got soooo homesick this week, and I don't have much to do at work to keep me busy and distracted. But, it's only for a little while. And I'm sure God means it all for our good. DH is having a hard time transitioning too, and is discouraged that the job search hasn't turned up much so far.
I'm not going to sweat it if the homeschooling is not up to my specs, because we can make up any missed days we need to. I feel a little bit bad for the kids, being stuck at home mostly, but I guess they were with me too.
It's a good thing I'm used to a messy house.
We were grateful to hear from our relatives in south Louisiana and in MS that they are all safe despite Hurricane Katrina. I think my LA relatives' properties are safe, not sure about the MS relative. Apparently, Baton Rouge (my folks' hometown and another place we have relatives living) is overrun with storm refugees. Even without having seen or heard constant news reports during this fast, I've been distressed to tears over hearing conversations around town and seeing AOL headlines.
If anyone would like to donate, I know Samaritan's Purse is an organization with a great deal of integrity, and quite experienced in issuing disaster relief, especially hurricane relief. They usually offer very practical things like water filters and temporary shelter. It's headed by Billy Graham's son, Franklin.

Good to be back among you!
