It's almost 1 and I need a nap. LOL!

I spent the morning finally taking my truck in to be worked on. It died twice on me yesterday in town, figured I sure don't need it doing that in the mountains while pulling a camper this weekend. They gave me a loaner car, a piece of $#@! little Ford Contour. Have I ever mentioned that I hate cars?

Almost as soon as I got the car, DH called and needed me to run to Clovis for 15 gallons of Hy-Tran fluid for the tractor. Luckily, it fit in the trunk of the car.

Tomorrow I have that wonderful dentist appt. Fill two cavities, fix my broken tooth, and he wants to pull a wisdom tooth, but I don't know if I'll let him or not. I DON'T want to do this.

So it's shaping up to be just a great week. I'm tired, I'm cranky, the house is a mess, I'm apparently the only one that knows that the white box under the counter is a TRASH CAN. Did I say I was cranky?

Ok, I'll cya'll later.

Andrea's picture

Hi

Boy Jenny, you're cranky! I don't blame you, I would be too!

HI Jo! You've gotten a lot done!

Well, my friend's kids are here, making a total of 4! They're actually doing pretty well, but I still don't think I would be cut out for this every day! You ladies with 3 or more have all my respect! We killed about 2 hours roaming around Wal-Mart - I promised then a machine toy. I did get my kitchen mopped and sheets changed. Just have to fold laundry now.

Oh Heidi, I did finish Perfect Match last week. Wow - it was really an engrossing book, wasn't it? And yes, I was really very surprised at the end, just like I was in My Sister's Keeper. I'm reading Picture Perfect now.

Must run!

HI guys -

I read Divine Secrets and liked it, but haven't read the 2nd one. Let me know! I agree on the Minivan thing - we are looking for a new one soon, I hope. Love our Dodge, but are also looking at the Saturn Relay.

Survived the day and made a nice dinner - steak and shrimp, mixed veggies, and pesto. Yum. i think the 4 kiddos had fun - this friend and I swap childcare back and forth, so it is well worth it - saves us both lots of $$$.

Finishing up school shopping tomorrow for DS8 - we still have a week and a day before school starts! DD will come along, but I don't have much left to buy for her -we have enuf pink frilly things!

I'm off to bed guys - I hope Vonnie is ok and everyone else in the path of Katrina.

morning

I hardly slept at all last night. On top of the cranky day, someone upstairs thought I needed a COLD to get thrown into the mix. I've had a horrible sore throat all night long. It's not quite as bad right now, I'm drowning myself in hot tea. I'm going to take some cold and sinus medicine and attempt the dentist. I know, I shouldn't, but I don't know when I'll get another chance. I got MIL to watch the boy for me, my appt is at 8:40.

DH did let me go to bed a little early last night. He put boy to sleep, I read for a little bit and turned out the light about 10:00. That was nice. Called the dealership and they hadn't even looked at my truck yet. grrrr....Said it would be first thing this morning. Arg.

Hopefully the day will get better. Ya'll have a good one!!

On the Fly

I got a phone call from DSIL (the principal) this morning saying she needs an emergency tutor for 2-3 weeks for a fourth grader. So, now I am gainfully employed at $15/hour 2 hours/day for a bit, which will be good!

I read Divine Secrets and enjoyed it very much, havn't read Little Altars yet. I also read My Sister's Keeper, Plain Truth, and Picture Perfect. I did not see that ending coming in Sister's Keeper, so I will have to check out Perfect Match. Right now I'm reading 1776 and the September issues of Smithsonian and National Geographic-I caught up! Smiling

Vonnie, I hope you are safe and dry.

Tomorrow is the boys' first day so I will get up early and make them a special breakfast. We're supposed to get the remains of Katrina starting tonight, with flooding possible and high winds, so I may even drive them to school rather than make them wait for the bus in the rain on the first day. Have a peaceful evening all!

Jenny, gosh I hope you are feeling better soon. When it rains, it pours, hey?

Jo, congrats on your new job! I didn't know you had read Jodi Picoult. I really like her books. I think you will like Perfect Match, though the topic is difficult.

Glad things went ok for your Dad Heidi, I really want to hear from Vonnie. The devastation sounds terrible.

Home and tired

So, I dropped the girls off at school, dropped the boy off at MIL's, and went straight to town. Got to the dentist, and they said we have to reschedule. I said, WHY?!!! "Because you were 30 minutes late". No, I said, I'm 10 minutes early, and got out the appt. card I was given. Apparently, the gal that scheduled the appt wrote down the wrong thing in the book. I explained to the gal (who was the dentist's wife, she's my age, was a Miss New Mexico contestant way back when. She knows our family) that there is no way I would have said 8:00 because it would be physically impossible with dropping the kids off at school here, then coming to town. She apologized, and I didn't have to wait too long before they squeezed me in. Got teeth cleaned, two cavities filled, fixed the broken molar. We all decided to wait on the extraction a few months, after the baby is born and they can give me more drugs, then also take my other wisdom teeth then, too. So it all worked out.

By the time I was done there, DH had called (9 times actually. I had my phone on silent. He was upset it took so long for me to get back to him. men!!) and said my truck was ready. So I got it (SO NICE to be tall again!!!), then up to Clovis, again, for another part. Grabbed Wendy's while up there (though I discovered since half of my face STILL doesn't work from the novacaine, it's very difficult to eat. That frostie sure was good, though!!). Grabbed subway for DH, out to the field to drop off lunch and part, MIL's to get the boy, and the school. Room mother from hell was there, and we had the discussion about overnight field trips. Made it known that I'm not backing her. Oh, it started when she asked if I was making brownies for the bake sale. What bake sale, I ask. The one that we are having Friday. News to me!!! Told her I didn't know, I wasn't going back to town this week, therefore I didn't know what was in my house to bake up. ARG!!

So, I'm home. Not quite as cranky, but still sick. Sorry to vent on ya'll. I'm just tired and it's easier to type than talk with my mouth the way it is right now. LOL!

Jo, that's cool about the tutoring!!

Andrea, yay on the shopping being complete (almost!)

Heidi, glad dad is ok. My parents are both west of atlanta, and I called them to make sure all was well there. Lost power at Dad's, and they both had tornadoes around there, but not too close by.

I'm going to go rest for a little while.

Gosh Jenny, what a day. I'm glad your dentist appt. went pretty well - it feels good to have it over with, I bet. Tell DH I said he needs to treat you extra good tonite - I know, two nights in a row is a lot to ask for! Now get better - did you ever buy that Zicam I told you to buy? I kicked a cold on my vacation with it.

Flying? Well, I polished half of my kitchen counters with counter polish - found it at Wal-Mart. Did laundry, shopped, and emptied dw. That's about it.

And So It Begins

The rain started about two hours ago. It is just pouring, and the guy on the radio said up to 4 inches in some places. That makes me nervous because the last time we got 4 inches my in-laws were full of water in their basement and a foot up the first floor. They lost their car and everything. My new office with it's brand-new sheetrock is just next door to the in-laws in the floodplain. The problem is a small river which was damaged by the last big flood. There are sand deposits and the banks were eroded, so it goes over its banks really easily now. Arg.

I am up because of the rain and because I want to make the boys a nice breakfast. Silly DS15 and I had conflict all week because he didn't start his essay that is due today. He did it all last night, and of course, it's beautiful. Little snot whipped out 3 pages like it was nothing. Then he says to me with much false dignity, "I needed to compose my thoughts in my head, Mother, before I could properly execute them." Sigh. That kid will be the death of me. How can I strangle him when I am laughing?

OK, back on topic.

I exercised and showered and had my shake. Now just procrastinating dust mopping and cleaning the br - best go do it. It is really raining here too and they say we may have some flooding. Of course it can't compare to the South.

I forgot, are you trying to sell some stuff Heidi?

I want to order some school clothes for myself today! I got one dress at Lands' End Inlet yesterday for 11.00! Can't beat that. Could use a few more.

Me too

I REALLY hope I have a better day today. LOL! Thanks for the thoughts Jo.

And, Oh, My!! What a sentence DS gave you! LOL! Hope the rain leaves inlaws and your office alone.

Andrea, have fun shopping!!

My house looks absolutely frightening. I can't even begin to describe it. It's hard on days I go to town because that for some reason just wipes me out. I get home and I don't want to do a thing. And I've been in town Saturday, Sunday, Monday AND Tuesday. So, the house hasn't had anything done to it in 4 days! Yikes! Well, it's had stuff done, just by the children and DH, so anything done wasn't good for it. If my gums and my back will quit hurting and if my nose will quit running or clogging up, I'm going to try to attack it. I've also got to get tons of laundry done so we have clothes for camping this weekend (yeah, add to my mile long list getting the camper ready to go and loaded).

Oh, and I felt really bad about my reaction yesterday to the bake sale news from room-mother-from-hell and went in to apologize to the teacher. She understood and said, yeah, she just kinda took the whole thing over. I have a feeling that RMFH is just so overwelming that each school year the teacher of our older children just aren't sure how to take her. At first, she seems great! Oh, here is a mom who will REALLY help. But soon that will wear off and the teacher will be like, "OMG, get this woman out of here!!!". I mean, she spends ENTIRE DAYS there with a new born, just so she doesn't have to drive home!!

Ok, I'm GOING to have a better day. I really am.

PODA:
*find the floor. Find the floor, find the floor! It's there under the towels and clothes and legos, really, it is!!
*laundry, laundry, laundry
*unload DW, reload
*find the counters
*vacuum (Chance helped himself to biscuits and bread all over the house
*fix the guys lunch and run it to them. This will be the most time consuming, because DH is at a field 10 miles S. of me, FIL is at a field 10 miles N. of me. They also need me to hook up the trailer and bring them each a pallet of seed from the grain store. Which is why I better get stuff done this morning, or else it will be just like a day in town.
*is 9am too early for a nap?

Ok, I better get moving!! AT least I don't look like a stroke patient anymore and have feeling AND movement on the left side of my face again. LOL!

Good Afternoon!

Well I sold $23 worth of kids fall clothing that they outgrew. Then I went to the used sporting goods store and sold a new golf bag DH didn't want for $15 so a grand total of $38 for a couple dollars in gas and an hour of time, not too bad although I thought they would offer me more for the clothes, at least they're gone now.

Gonna visit friends in PA over the holiday weekend, hopefully the weather holds out since we are intending to cookout.

Jenny-is there any way the guys can take lunch along with them in the morning so you don't have to make that run back and forth? sorry about RMFH again this year, maybe deep down she is a lonely person???

Dinner..hmmm.... chili I think and a salad.

Well, I've gotten a couple loads of laundry done and the kitchen is ok. At least the counters have no trash or dishes on them and the sink is empty. I just haven't felt like much else but watching the news and blowing my nose. Nice picture, huh? LOL! I think I dozed off in there, too. One minute, I was checking out Sheppard Smith, and the next Neil Cuvato was on.

Plugged in and turned on the fridge in the camper, so it will be nice and cool when I go to put the food in there for the weekend. Need to plan meals for that.

As I said above, only had to deliver one lunch, and no one needed me to get seed, so all was well there. Chance had a short nap in the truck, which works out perfect. If I can get him an early enough nap and for only about 30 minutes, I can get him asleep before 11 tonight.

Town to get camping food and supplies, bank to deposit some money, clean out truck.

My funky mood continues, and I'm sorry for it, guys. I'm tired of doing stuff around the house only to have it undone right behind me. I'm tired of being sick. I'm tired of hurricane "survivors" doing needless looting (not food stuff, the other looting) and shooting at the police and helicopters trying to save them.

Sorry guys. Just tired today. I'm off to put on a face so I don't scare small children.

early to bed, I'm tired today!

The remnants of Katrina hit us pretty hard, but luckily, no flooding. It was so dark out yesterday though, poured all day, and lots of tree branches came down from the wind.

Wow, are my boys cranky! They are both overtired and just miserable. I need to get them in bed at a reasonable hour, and yet at their ages, shouldn't they take responsibility for that? DS15 has a very tough teacher for English, and he came home with the seventh chapter of Plato's Republic to read, all last night. It was a pretty bad evening in this household. Hopefully, tonight will be better.

Peace,
-Jo

Shaun's picture

Quick hi

I had a deadline moved up a week earlier this week so I have just been going nuts trying to finish. Good thing you guys aren't so talkative this week, so I could read up!

We are just having beautiful weather and everything is so far removed from the hurricane, it's hard to comprehed it. The looting sounds so awful, and the people seizing vehicles at gunpoint and all the rest. The very worst of human nature. NO is such a violent and poor city already, and public officials there are traditionally quite corrupt, so in a way it's no surprise that people have just sunk to the bottom of the barrel. Still, it's a change from New York, when you heard so much about people helping each other.

My sister lives in Ponchatoula (she's staying with my dad up in Memphis) and we have no idea what condition her house is in, whether she'll be able to go back to work anytime soon, what happened to her in-laws.

House is a mess this week, nothing good to report. Just working working working til this weekend, and then I'll have to play a bit of catch-up.

Glad to know Vonnie is still with us!

jennye's picture

Not much to report

I got the groceries done and the bank, didn't get truck clean, though. I'll have to do that tomorrow morning (just the inside. I'm not going to attempt to wash it).

My cold has gotten worse. I now have almost no voice, much to my children and DH's relief. LOL! But, I'll get over it.

I have much to do. Tomorrow will be spent packing clothes and food and anything else we need for camping. Will leave sometime tomorrow afternoon, probably after school, since we will be hauling the 4-wheeler trailer behind the camper and we don't want to do that much at night. I hate hauling double trailers, especially with that camper. At least I'm not driving. I think DH is going to put the extra diesel tank in my truck so we won't have to fill up anywhere, too.

Chance is watching Jurassic Park (for the first time. He is wearing dinosaur pjs, thought it would be fun for him. If he likes it, I'll take it in the camper for him). Girls are fixin' to go to bed as soon as I comb the wet heads. And hopefully, DH will get home soon and I can follow suit (to bed, that is).

Night all!!

jennye's picture

Jo, have fun at Tim McGraw.

Jo, have fun at Tim McGraw. Never been very big on him, but I bet it will be a good show. Who is opening?

My PODA is to pack up, load up, and ship out!! Planning on picking the kids up in the camper and heading out from there. Two friends that were going to join us have backed out due to fuel prices. Which is ok with us, now we don't have to wait on anyone. Oh, did I mention my voice is almost completely gone. DH and kids will be so happy!!!

RMFH update: She descended on our city slicker friend's house yesterday for over an hour, while her kids trashed the place and didn't help clean up anything. Friend called as SOON as she had left to let me know and filled me in on the unwelcomed visit. I just pray she doesn't find out where I live. She knows that friend is a SAHM, and friend is praying that she doesn't come over everyday and "hang out" all day long, especially since the school is going to tell her that she can't hang out there all day (info from the school board meeting last night).

And Heidi, I was thinking of your comment that maybe she is just lonely. And I thought, you can't be too lonely when you live with your ex-husband, your father, and three kids in a 2 bedroom house. LOL! (BTW, they used to have a 4 bedroom home, but lost it and their business when they went bankrupt two years ago). LOL! I know, I'm really mean and cruel. Also found out that the woman doesn't even possess a GED. Which just amazes me. How can a women who is about 35 or so years old not ever get a diploma or GED? Her oldest child is 8, so she was well into her 20's when she had him, it's not like she got knocked up as a teen and dropped out. I just don't understand. Puzzled

Sheesh, Alexa has been quite a handful lately. It was just very quiet in the livingroom so I go check on her, she is digging in my plant with a toothbrush then brushing her teeth with it. She has become one very curious, michievous girlie. She cracks me up more everyday.

Jo, sorry about the headache. Ugh. But I'm glad the river didn't flood...and your son is a funny one. Smiling

Jackie, I wonder how often "give Alexa a bath" shows up on your PODA. LOL!

Jenny, have a great weekend camping!

I'm presently working full-time at the publishing company in town, as you may have read in my blog entry. I started this week. Got off work early, since many were leaving for Labor Day. I found out I'm salaried! Who'd-a thunk it?

I literally had nothing to do at work today. I picked up the mail, opened it, and delivered it to the boss's desk. I took one message from VM. People walked in once or twice and handed me things, or asked "Is he still in a meeting?" Otherwise, I just sat there waiting for the phone to ring. Makes for a long day. I made a to-do list. Ate lunch. I read a lot...the Bible I carry around, internet news, and pieces of mail sitting around the office.

I do offer my services to the folks next door to me, but usually only get about 15 min. of work out of it at a time. And they had nothing today, and I don't want to pester them too much anyway. I feel bad earning a paycheck for literally doing nothing! I think they did hire me out of kindness to a certain extent. Surely things will pick up soon.

Well, I'm off to conjure something for supper. Who knows what?

Love y'all! Good to be back.

Love,

Susannah

Shaun's picture

Welcome Back Susannah

Good to see you back. Another quick peek in -- it has just been total insanity around here trying to meet deadlines.

Finally talked to my dad today -- sister's house=OK, step-brother=OK, BILs folks=OK, but their fishing camp on the gulf=presumed gone. His house is packed full of our family's LA refugees. Not sure when they'll go back, as no power is expected for some time, and sister and step-brother both have young kids. I learned that step-brother weathered the storm there, "guarding the used-car lot" where he works. They must be relieved to know he's OK -- he's still there, but not sure where he is. I did hear from them that in some towns grocery stores are opening -- with lines out the door, of course.

We, and the south especially, are going to be absorbing the costs and problems from Katrina for a long long time.

OT, sorry, just on my mind. Better go finish dinner!

Hi Everyone!!!

HI everyone!

Welcome back Susannah first of all!! So glad to see you here.

Waves to everyone else - Jenny, that RMFH obviously has some personal and/or mental health issues - she needs help! Yikes.

Well, today, kids and I had dentist appointments. All went well. DH went to the Dr. for chest pains and found out he has shingles. Joy. I went to the Dr. for a hand rash that I've had for years and treat periodically - got some cortisone ointment for that. My dear friend has my kids until 9:00 pm tonite. We have traded kids back and forth all day, she has 3, I have 2, but her youngest 2 match up with mine, so it is a great combo. What a friend! I think she knew that DH was in rough shape. The thing is they are leaving for a camping trip tomorrow and she has to pack!

I'm off guys - enjoy your weekend - count your blessings if you weren't in the path of Katrina.

Quick Flyby

Took DS15 clothes shopping today. He really chose some wonderful deals. Smiling

Our state is sent 30 tractor trailer trucks of food/water/clothes/diapers/formula donations down to Mississippi at 2:00pm today. I bought a ton of kid clothes for next to nothing (some were .99!)and dropped them off at the truck. They managed to get all these donations in 12 hours worth of time. Our local Pepsi bottling plant donated the trucks and drivers, and the feds waived the 10 hours at a time on the road maximum for this one convoy.

Found the rest of DD's b-day presents today, and bought myself a pink waterbottle. The boys keep taking off with mine, but I figure, this will cure them! Laughing out loud

Am baking cookies right now for the pig roast, which is a potluck.

The house is in grest shape from my little explosion yesterday, so that is good.

Susannah, it's great to have you back among us.

Ok, I smell cookies, gotta go! Smiling

Neighborhood bonfire next door tonight. The kids can play and the adults can talk and have cocktails. Tomorrow we are visiting friend in Pa. It is only a little over an hour away. We'll spend the whole day out there and then just relax at home on Monday.

See ya

RMFH

No, deep down, she's just RMFH. LOL! I managed to avoid her today.

and the guys wanted a HOT lunch today. Hamburgers. And since they left at 5am, 1) I wasn't getting up that early to fix them LOL! and 2) they wouldn't be very hot by noon. Actually, I lucked out. FIL called at 11 and said that he was up at the grain store anyway and was filling up with seed and got a burrito. So I only had one lunch to deliver.
