Now It Can Be Told!

Remember when I asked you to think good thoughts for us? Well now I can tell you why. John was going for a new job. It pays a little more than his old one but more importantly it's a) back in his old field (network engineering), and b) there is room for advancement. His old job was dead-end. He starts August 8th. We're thrilled, and thanks for your good thoughts! It helped!

nope!
We pencilled it all out: We get phone, internet and TV from cable right now, at a pretty low price because we're employees. Internet we can't drop, obviously, since it's how I make my little bit of income, and phone is such a good deal even full rate it doesn't make sense to drop ($40/mo for everything including unlimited long distance in the US). SO we're dropping the TV component. It'll save us $1,000 a year. We really don't watch a lot of TV and we've found alternate ways of getting the little we do watch. We'll probably rejoin Netflix.com
. It's only $9.99 a month now (used to be $20), no late fees, you get a free trial. Is good. We belonged before we got free buckets o' cable. We can do a LOT with $1,000 a year and get a lot more entertainment value for it, for our family. Other families, maybe not so much. And we're lucky to get good reception where we are.

Tried it, wasn't very impressed. DVD's kept skipping, and out here in BFE, it takes 3-4 days to get a movie. Couldn't really justify the expense. But we LOVE our satellite. I couldn't go without the TV thing. We rent a movie maybe every other month on it. And there are too many shows we like (I gotta have my summer baseball games).
Funny story. Quite a few people have asked us since we are pregnant again "What, don't you have TV out there?". LOL!
