Ideas to Kid-Proof Kitchen Chair Seats
Submitted by jahooper on Mon, 07/18/2005 - 5:38pm
Now that we've finally purchased just the fancy, Italian kitchen chairs we wanted, we have our first child and are about to start having frequent visits from all of our young nieces and nephews!
Has anyone come across a good idea for covering just the seat portion of a kitchen/dining chair? I've seen plenty of slip covers to cover the entire chair back and seat, but I just want to cover the seat and leave the back exposed. And no plastic!
Many thanks for any thoughts...

If the seats are fabric, you
If the seats are fabric, you can Scotchgard them against stains and spills. If they are solid wood seats, chair pads are your best bet for when the little kids come to visit.
What about...
cloth seat cushions that can tie onto the chair posts. There are some very stylish and pretty one available.
Only suggestion...make sure that the cover can be removed to thrown in the washer. The entire cushions going in the washer can ruin them.Shawna

What does the seat look like?
is it fabric, wicker, wood? I'm assuming it's not wood 'cause I don't see a problem with kids and wooden chair seats unless they're too hard.
If it's not wood and your goal is to catch spills and dirt, and you don't, for what ever reason, choose scotch guard, you canmake seat slip covers with tea towels.
Find large woven tea towels about eight inches longer than the width of your chair seat and four inches wider than the length so that they hang over nicely. Sew ribbons to the towels where they can tie around the legs and the whole thing stays put. And if you scotch guard the tea towels they shouldn't stain?
It's kitcheny, you can get towels that coordinate with your decor, and you can whisk them on or off as needed.
I don't get the credit for this, I got inspiration from HGTV but I did modify it a little.
