Wax in the Carpet
Submitted by shawna on Sat, 07/16/2005 - 8:15pm
I am having to clean and repair my rental property now that it is vacant and I have found a few large spots of canle wax dried in the carpet. My mother, who came to help me clean, iced it down and used a putty knife to remove much of it. I have Googled the subject and found that a low set iron on warm and paper bags or paper towels should do the trick of removing what is left. Has anyone ever tried this and does it work? does the color tend to get set in as a stain (since heat tends to set colors permenantly)? any other suggestions for removing candle wax from carpets?

I have tried this
It worked okay, although I tried it on a tablecloth and not on carpet. There was still a little wax "texture" left but not the color. I'd use paper bags, and more than you think you need. You could also call a carpet cleaning company and see if they can do anything, if you want to play it safer.
Me too on a table cloth
I used blotting paper to absorb the wax. It worked quite well.

I've used towel-rags and paper towels
and it's worked well. It doesn't get it all out but it gets most of it. Do you have a *steam* cleaner? That would get the rest out. The color may remain, but it should be much lighter and may come out with stain remover once the wax is gone. OXYCLEAN!
