Question about twins
I've got a silly question. But one every pregnant woman wonders. Mainly directed at Lauralynn.
When did you find out you were having twins? Is it possible for the dr. to miss it on the first ultrasound (done at 6 weeks)? What symptoms did you have different from having just a singleton?
Just wondering. I'm already really big at 22 weeks. I mean, BIG! I was 130 and 5'7" before conception (right where I should be), and I've already gained 25 pounds. And I haven't been eating any more than usual. I didn't have any morning sickness (but I didn't with my son either. did with both my girls, though). But my sciatic nerve has bothered me from almost the very start of this pregnancy, rather than in the third trimester with the others. I mean, bothers me to the point that if I've been working much at all in the garden or the house, I HAVE to sit down. Or I HAVE to just stand there because I absolutely cannot move without extreme pain. The dr. has perscribed me some muscle relaxers for it, but I'm scared to take them because he said they will make me loopy and drowsy, and I don't have time for loopy and drowsy when I'm on call on the farm all the time and may need to leave at the drop of a hat. Rambling. Point is, sciatica is more intense than the other pregnancies and I'm bigger than the others.
I have my next (and usually final) ultrasound July 22nd. Guess my anxiety will be put to rest then. I'm sure I'm overreacting. But when a cousin's eyes pop out and asks if I'm having triplets (I was wearing her maternity clothes that she just got done with), and when three people I know in Walmart yesterday ask if I just have a month or two left to go (rather than four), I'm just a little worried. Especially since twins will mean I have to go from a pickup to an Excursion. Ugh. I love my truck. Maybe I can just lose the husband instead of the truck...

Jenny-- We found out we we
Jenny--
We found out we were having twins at 6 weeks and 5 days. I am not sure if they could have missed it at your 6 week ultrasound. I just know that we had two egg sacks and two heart beats at our first ultrasound. I imagine that it is possible since fraternal twins could be quite different in size at that stage if one implanted later than the other. I'm really not sure at all.
Remember that you get bigger faster with each baby, so it could just be a matter of all your muscles stretching faster. My symptoms were not too different during the first half or so of pregnancy. I was sick, but I always am. I would say I was more tired than with the others. Also, I felt movements earlier and more consistently. That is pretty usual with twins, I think. Things felt heavy against my pelvic floor in a way that my older kids didn't and that started around maybe 18 or 19 weeks along.
The ultrasound is the only sure way to know. By now it is possible for your doctor to hear two heartbeats with the doppler thing, but he probably wouldn't if he's not looking for it. Have you measured big at your OB appointments? That is a better indicator of how much baby is in there compared to what people think you look like. By 13 weeks along, I was measuring about 18 weeks and so forth. Now that I am 35 weeks, I measure about 44 weeks. It just gets bigger and bigger
Sorry I'm not more help. Off hand, I would say, you're probably not having twins since the early ultrasound didn't show them, so don't worry. You can still fit in your truck.

ultrasound
I've been checking out twin boards at Babycenter.com and asked another online friend I have. She didn't find out til her 22 week ultrasound. But I'm sure I have nothing to worry about.
Before ultrasounds there were
Before ultrasounds there were women who gave birth to twins without knowing they would have more than one. How would that be for a surprise? I think that there are all kinds of scenarios for finding out about having twins--everyone is different and every pregnancy, too. I'll be interested to hear about the results of your next ultrasound.

My Mom is A Twin
And my grandmother didn't know that she had two babies when she went into labor. My Mom was born first and then the doctor said "whoa! here comes another one!". Then here comes my aunt, who was much smaller and more fragile. My Mom and grandmother both swear that my aunt was conceived a month or two after my Mom and was premature. She is mentally challenged and suffers from a myriad of health problems such as epilepsy.
Anyway, just thought I'd interject that!
Vonnie, who has no business on pregnancy or twins threads! LOL!
twins size
The Doc told me that I'm about 6 weeks 5 days pregnant. When i did my first U/S at 5 weeks 5 days, the Doc said that he didn't see twins. However, after doing extensive reading i found that the size of the baby at 5 weeks was not adding up, which was 19 mm. the bby should be 2mm at that size. Could he have made a mistake, or could it be twins in one sack and hiding so that we can't see?
I have another U/S in 2 weeks so i guess we'll know for sure.
Never had any children, but i seriously feel that we are having twins.
Added to which, my grandmother was a triplet, my father's side has twins, and my husband's side has twins. So i know it's possible.
Hope someone can help
