Fabric.com: NOT A GOOD DEAL

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on Sat, 09/01/2007 - 8:49am.

Fabric.com appears to offer fabric at great prices HOWEVER, the virtual swatches (photos) are so off in color and description.
With this last order, my fabric was shipped in a clear plastic "bag" with the less than a bolt fabrics wadded around the bolt and very wrinkled. Due to the plastic wrap, condensation had occurred and all the fabric inside was damp to the touch and beginning to smell. Now I must unroll an entire bolt, wash and dry it. It is easier to leave it on the bolt, cut off the desired amount, then wash and dry it before cutting. I will have a bolt of fabric that now must be cut in lengths, laundered and folded and stacked somewhere until I am ready to use them. Also the description of the fabrics sound good HOWEVER the fabric is very inferior in quality. One of the knits I ordered was described as being bottm weight in reality it is barely thick enough for a lightweight tee shirt and one can actually look through it. The slinky knit I ordered had a pulled area right in the middle of the fabric.
I had ordered a second bolt of another knit that I very carefully color coordinated with a brocade from which I was going to make a jacket. The knit was to be used to make separates, for a complete wardrobe. That knit was NOT shipped with the other bolt and fabrics. I then contacted customer service to find out why. The surly online live support person was beligerant and NOT helpful. She conveyed that it was my fault that I was dissastisfied and knit picked at my online messages to take my attention off of the complaint. She conveyed that it was somehow MY fault that the knit I had ordered was no longer available and could never be reordered.
So now I must either give away the brocade or go online and try to find another supplier who happens to carry a bottom weight knit that color coordinates with the brocade.
In the past I have purchased numerous LARGE orders, bolts of fabric from fabric.com and was dissatisfied EVERY time. I had been willing to make the best of it in the past and accepted the excuses they offered. This last time the online support was so rude and beligerent that I have decided I will NOT do business with this company any more. It is better to pay more and be satisfied than to have to deal with incompetence, beligerant people. With today's technology there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for a bulk fabric supplier to be sold out of a fabric, accept an order for that fabric then just not ship it or even bother to notify the consumer.

I love www.fabric.com

I have been ordering from www.Fabric.com for YEARS and have always had a wonderful experience each time. They have fabulous sales constantly. I receive my orders in a timely manner, and their customer service has been exceptional.
The bad experience as mentioned above will leave a sour taste forever in anyone's mouth, which is a shame. I can understand why they may have sold out of a particular print although the site allowed the customer to purchase it.
If I am forced to make a 'complaint' with my arm twisted, not really a complaint, but hey... I live in Georgia, and Fabric.com is based out of Marietta, GA. So I pay state sales tax versus other on-line companies I shop with. But not a complaint against Fabric.com. Laughing out loud
And I will continue to do business with them for years to come.
