Thanks for the new thread, Anne

Susannah's picture

I tried twice and nothing happened. ?? Whatever.

Yesterday was nice and relaxed, and DS had a happy birthday. The yellow cake was good with milk chocolate frosting and I managed to draw a dinosaur and write "Happy Birthday" on it with my leftover homemade icing. He couldn't blow out the candles though, took him several minutes. Laughing out loud I was afraid he was spitting all over the cake and Mom wouldn't want any.

I skipped church, mainly because I was up til two baking and getting the crock-pot ready, so I had plenty of time in the morning to bake rolls and get ready for Mom's visit. For once, I was really glad I skipped. Usually I really want to go and it's disappointing if I can't.

Today I was awakened by my daughters who informed me DS3 had had a blowout all over his bed. So, started the morning with bath and some laundry. He seems to feel all right otherwise, but probably has a touch of stomach bug. We had planned to visit our friends this afternoon, but there goes that. I called and apparently her boys have it too.

I've already run out to the bank this morning before DH left for work to fix the checking account problem.

So...

PODA:
*Laundry
*Homeschool
*Maybe steam clean stairs later

Love y'all!

Susannah

drew a dinosaur?

Becky's picture

Wow Susannah! So it all worked out well. I'm glad the cake was good and everything. Sorry the little one and his friends are sick, but at least it's all at the same time!

Good morning Anne!

I've had the weekend to rest and now am trying to make the rest of spring break semi-productive. So, PODA:

-morning routine
-extra laundry
-as many Flylady e-mails as possible
-throw out dead flowers
-catch up on dishes
-homework
-wrap up and address some packages
-fill out paperwork for OB appointment tomorrow, and figure out how to get there
-call and cancel cable
-buy some groceries

Catch y'all later!

Becky's picture

I forgot I also need to:

-call the bra lady about getting a bra altered
-contact the property manager about two mysterious wet spots on the floor (not cat-related)

Susannah, I'm sure the boy lo

jennye's picture

Susannah, I'm sure the boy loved your dinosaur!! Sounds like you did a pretty good job, way to go, MOM!!!

I'm working on bills right now. Bleh. Got paid for more hay over the weekend, so I'm going to head to town to deposit it then pay the farm bank. Have to make a few phone calls this morning. Then tonight the school board is having a dinner for the the members and spouses. Hey, free meal, I'm a runnin'!! LOL! Will also do the grocery store while in town, and a few other things.

Have a great day!

What I did on Spring break vacation......

Jana's picture

*** I can't do a personal blog at the moment so I am just sticking it in here!

So this last week I got to experience Spring Break with the kids. A whole week off with no docking of vacation days and the check still comes in the mail. Ah, the fun of working for a school district. I can't wait till summer!!!

We started out taking a little adventure to DH's famliys farm about 2 hours from home but it got rained out....I mean RAINED, and RAINED and RAINED out, not just a little sprinkle! So home we came but we did get a nice stop at the strawberry farm to pick our own strawberries so all was not lost. The boys totally got into the strawberry farm. Will go again!

DH goes back to work and the DSs and I head to Houston Garden Center. Hello, be prepared for some major planting. DH so missed this hint!! Smiling

Friday, I decide, yes, in fact I DO want that flowerbed in the back. That I have been wanting for oh TWO YEARS now. So we go get the tiller and with a smile on his face (you know it!) DH plows up the spot and here we go!

I replanted some hibiscus, my lemon tree, a cigar plant, some gerber daisies, kolancha, and some herbs.

I add to the mix lamb's ear (recommend this even just for a bit, the kids will LOVE IT!) red tipped phontenias, a bottlebrush tree, sweet broom, seeds for sweet peas and cloeus and sunflowers and something a friend gave me that I am still waiting on the name for so I can research it.

We also flagstoned our front walk!

It looks grand. I sat out there last night with some tea and just enjoyed it so much! I can't wait to add more as funds permit!

I love to garden! Makes my heart happy!

Oh and needless to say the outside of the house looks great but don't step INSIDE! You may not recover from the mess! Smiling

PODA:
THE FLOORS!!!!! they are the priority tonight.
THE BATHROOM!!!! second runner up in priority!
Not sure how much dirt stayed outside if you look at those 2 things!

Jana

delurking to ask

KellyA's picture

Jana, where did you strawberry pick? I live in North Houston, wondering if there is a goodie that I have missed. When we lived more south we used to do blackberries at Froberg Farm in Alvin a lot.

Ok, thanks. Sorry to interrupt.

Kelly

It is a place in between Wharton and Boling on FM 1301.

Jana's picture

They have strawberries, blackberries and peaches. It is called The Strawberry Patch. If you want their number I will send you a private message. They have a small picnic area and a small little pond with fish. They work out of a barn type building that sells several fruit related things. We have not been to Froberg's, funny enough since that is very close to us!

Jana

Goodness, got thread going and forgot to post!

Rooney's picture

We got up and got the boys off to school, adn went to LasCruces for Sam's run, Ross, Marshalls, and Chinese Buffet!!!
Very excited, got 50 pounds of flour and sugar and big package of yeast. So now I am free to make bread everyday! I really enjoy the baking.
We found tennis shoes for DH and me(same ones tee hee, clearance for $20 new balance)
So now I am tired, and full, kids are having chicken nuggets from Sam's! Love it!

Becky-full day for you!

Susannah, I'm so glad the cake worked out OK, and it sounds wonderful!

Becky, you can get bras altered? I had no idea!

Jenny, I'm glad hay $$ is coming in.

Anne, I just love the smell of baking bread. It's my second favorite, right after baby necks.

Have a great night all,
-Jo

Hi everyone! Jo, I hear yo

Andrea's picture

Hi everyone!

Jo, I hear you! We are nowhere near planting, but by this time last year, we were.

Picking strawberries? I don't want to hear it! Jana, good job outside~ We did a flagstone patio last summer - love it! It was from our flagstone sidewalk in the front that was 35 years old! We did brick there.

I'm off, busy with kids tonite.

Andrea

You were quite productive today Anne!

Jana, I'm green!

Susannah's picture

I want your garden! Ha ha! Can't afford it all right now, but I'd love to do it little by little. Have to copy down your plantings. I love lamb's ear. I'd especially love to flagstone our front pathway. Enjoy it to the full!

J.D. only had one more "episode" today. I hope that doesn't mean he's saving up for tonight. I only just got his blanket in the dryer. Did get the tub scrubbed this morning.

We had tacos for supper and I did do some homeschooling. Laundry, well.... Ahem.

Anyways, Emma is such a little pip. She's full of mischief these days. She was all over our bed a minute ago (and all over the cat, her favorite pasttime), and there's no way to keep her from climbing back up, so I put her in her crib long enough to do some internet stuff. Then she gets both knees stuck between the crib slats and starts wailing. DH had to come extricate her; I couldn't figure it out. Arg! The child never stops moving for a second, unless she passes out on the floor with her blankie. And she's always going vertical. Up, up, up! Monkey. Okay, now she's back on my bed banging on the cat with a big ol' locking washer. Nice. I marvel at that cat's patience. (Although she did bite Elias on the head and hiss at him the other night. She's never quite forgiven him, or us, for his toddler years. Yes, we really do strive to teach them "gentle.")

I got my freebies "bouquet" from the Old Schoolhouse magazine promotion. Lots of good free homeschooling stuff. Smiling Even a little abacus. How fun!

I can't do my flymail, because I can't get through to hotmail. It's been three days now. I shudder to see my in-box. Any other hotmail users having trouble? I get a screen saying "hotmail redirect in progress--please wait" then it times out. Bleah.

Well, I've got to do bedtime. Bleah. What a great attitude I have. I've been letting DH take it easy at home since he's having stress at work, but frankly, it's about time for his turn! End whining.

Love,

Susannah

Hi guys

jamielea's picture

Susannah, glad your cake turned out and it sounds like your DS had a great birthday Smiling

Jana, the garden sounds great and I think I've been to that Strawberry patch, I'll ask DH when he gets home.

We had a busy weekend, didn't get to post. Bought season passes to Sea World Saturday, spent about 4 hours there on Saturday and then went back on Sunday. Trey loved it, he rode the "Steel something" a roller coaster with his daddy, Tony and Anthony didn't ride so Trey walked around most of the rest of the day doing the "chicken call" Laughing out loud

Trey and Savannah both had check up's and shots today, oh joy! Trey had to get 4, the first one brought tears, 2nd one crying, 3rd one VERY LOUD crying and he twisted over and it casued the needle to jerk out, he's got a huge bruise on his bottom and a nice little 2 inch cut! I had to hold on to him for the final one. I asked if I could have a Xanex after that! Savannah cried but nothing like Trey did.
Anyway, Tony and Trey both have dentist appointments tomorrow. Then I have an appointment day after that! A week full of Doctors.

The house isn't too bad I've maintained Morning routine and that's helped alot. Only TADA I can manage for today, other than surviving the Dr's appointment... I cleaned my van out and shampooed the carpet, looks great.

I'll catch up with everybody later, DH just got home and I think he's got me an early anniversary present, 10 years tomorrow.

See you guys later.

SNOW

jennye's picture

Ok, Saturday: windy, but 83 outside. Leaves are comin' out everywhere and I though Spring is really here!

Today: 2 inches of snow, 6 more expected, schools are closed.

Anne, did ya'll get any of this snow?

Jana, WOW! That's some work!!! Pictures?

Susannah, puppies are more forgiving than cats. Smiling

Jamie Lea, cool on season passes! Yuck on Dr.

So, dinner was good last night. Thick steaks, baked taters, pound cake, salad, iced tea, lace tableclothes, and flower bouquets (I got to take one home!). Had the dinner in the library, the librarian was calling it Cafe Book. I helped clean up, then joined the school board meeting til about 9. Jeff said he would call when the meeting was over and I went to his parents, but I put the kids in the truck at 10 and headed out, sat in the parking lot for an hour. The kids watched Shrek on DVD in the truck to kill time (and put two of them to sleep). School board meeting FINALLY got out at 11:30!!! WOW! But, lots of things are being straightened out now (the business manager that quit a month ago had, on purposely, left things in a HUGE mess. I mean, we are looking at audits and if things had continued, the school could have come close to being shut down! Very vindictive person. ANYWAY...

I'm going to start a fire in the fireplace, make some hot chocolate, and veg out! LOL! Ok, I may get some work done around here. Kitchen is desperate for attention, so is laundry and the bathrooms.

Tuesday at Home

Shaun's picture

Taking a day to hang out around the house, since I know at least W and F we'll be out. Even passed up a playdate at the Children's Museum -- DD is too young to know!

Passed out again last night (no, did not drink a martini first!) and did not get much done, so today is a busy one -- need to Roomba the LR and DR, put more laundry away, make soup (kale-potato, with feta cheese sprinkles when you serve it), and do lots of freelance stuff. Also need to start arranging summer camp stuff for DD5 -- great stuff through community ed. And -- hurrah! -- tap class tonight.

TADAs:
Unclogged toilet (seriously, why is it that my girls are the pluggers?)
Unload/reload/start DW
Folded 1 1/2 loads (did a partial load with the highchair cover last night)
Put new load in dryer
Hot breakfast and bag lunch for DD5
Completed scholastic book order
Called school to offer free TV

Felt pretty good about getting that all done before 9:30 am., in addition to taking DD5 to school.

Took DD1 to the Dr. yesterday, will post in blog about the results.

Sorry no personal messages, but a heartfelt good morning to all!

Shaun

Day 2

Susannah's picture

This morning, DD6: "Mom, I think I threw up in my bed."

Poor kid.

So, TA DA, did laundry, cleaned mattress, bathed kid. She's lost it a couple more times since, but seems better now. She's playing with baby on the bed. We're taking a sick day nevertheless.

I've become a certifiable hermit, I believe. I'm actually glad for the excuse to call and cancel everything this week. What's happened to me? The more time I spend at home, the more ingrown I get; the less I want to see people. Weird. The exact opposite of the way I used to be. Watch, though; by Saturday I'll probably be stir crazy.

Jenny, brrrr!

DH has important meetings at work today.

I think I might have a little more in the bank account than I thought, as two payments had already come through that I thought were still pending. Yes! I think that accounts for all monthly expenses. This means I can go yard saling again on Saturday, as long as I'm sparing. Need a new summer wardrobe. Smiling P.S. I'm loving my new $3 bag. It's perfect! Also, loving those Lauri puzzles. I've wanted some for the kids forever and I can't BELIEVE they were only 50 cents each. They love them!

TA DA: Folded a bunch of laundry and put away most this morning. Cleaned that mattress upstairs and dust busted a little here and there. Made lunch. Last night, I got all the ironing done while watching Return of the King, Director's Commentary. By about 2:30 a.m., I was at the end of disk one. Crawled into bed, satisfied that DH would have clothes to choose from for aforementioned important meetings.

My vacuum cleaner's motor is in pieces on DH's workbench. Seized bearing or something. Given his work stress this week, I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon. I guess I can borrow my Mom's for a little while. The dust buster runs outta juice pretty fast.

DD wants to play Spy Fox. See ya later!

Love,

Susannah

yep we have snow! Incrediable! But kid problems....aargh!

Rooney's picture

Yikes flyfriends, I am embarrassed by and ticked at my eldest son. We have parent teacher and principal conference at 12:15 today. My dS8(d meaning soon to be dead Smiling), stole a password from another boy, and has been going into the computer as this boy, and failing things on purpose. Just plain mean! He fessed up to it to the teachers, and the teacher(her first year, is just so disappointed in him) I am ready to flay the skin from his body! My DH is coming to the meeting, and that will just rip DS's heart to tell his Dad. Gosh, this is like so out of character, that it scares me a bit? I know this is OT, but ya'll are invisable friends who's opinions count! Help!
Tada
grocery shopped and put away!
PoDa

A child enters your home and makes so much noise you can hardly stand it--then departs, leaving the house so quiet you think you'll go mad. -Dr. J.A. Holmes

OMG Anne!!

jennye's picture

Is it the boy that would pee on him? Or someone different? I'm not sure what I'd do. it's going to be really hard on him to fess up in front of daddy.

Snow has stopped for now. But we are still in a warning til 5pm. I'm enjoying sitting by the fireplace with hot chocolate! Which I think I'm going to get back to. This laptop is too darn slow and half the time it won't even work! DH is playing sims 2. bleh. WOn't let me play my own game!!!

Anne - inhale.......exhale......inhale.......exhale

Jana's picture

If this is out of character then you know he is a good kiddo. I think he will fully get the gest of HOW much trouble he is in and that will have a bigger impact then anything else. If this is the kid that was peeing on him, well then, that could explain some of it. If not, a true heart to heart will be necessary. Hear his side and then you and DH can take some time to figure out the punishment. Just let it digest before you "skin him alive", my mother used to say that when she was really mad at us!!!

Good, calming vibes coming your way!!!

Jana

Oh Anne, what a tough one!

Shaun's picture

Gosh I would be so furious! Yet even at 8-yrs-old I think kids are very narcissistic, they just have no idea what it means to hurt someone else. They think a trick is "funny" b/c they just don't get that other people have feelings.

That's not to say that he's not responsible or that he shouldn't face consequences! (Ha! Like you'd consider no consequences!) I'm just saying that while you may want to work on helping DS develop empathy, it's too soon to worry that there is something really "wrong" with him.

If at all humanly possible, I would try to find a way to really listen to what he says about it. If you can be open to listening, you may get a better sense of whether this was just plain being s-t-o-o-p-i-d like a kid or if there is some kind of bullying warning sign or problem with school or motive for trying to hurt the other kid.

That might also give you some idea of what effective consequences would be. I'd think he'd really feel it if he had to find some way of making amends to the teacher and to the boy. It's excruciating to face up to the people you've disappointed or hurt -- makes you never want to do it again!

Good luck!

Shaun

Speaking of which, that is where I am so I gotta run.

Thinking of you Anne - y ou WILL get through this intact and so will your son.

The saga continues..

Rooney's picture

Thanks buddies! Your input is so right on! My DH was amazing to me, he said, to me before we got there,"this is malicious act, and not to give Eric any excuses, but he is doing to be "cool"
Wow! We get in there and the teachers all say, the exact thing, and come to find out, this boy(who is kinda slow), is the class target for bullying, and Eric has been with the bullies before! A big sign about bullying tendacies Shaun! Smiling He started out to help the boy cheat, to help him get a pizza certificate. Eric bombed the test, and freaked, told one cool friend, they laughed, and then he did like 7 test in a row! Failing on purpose. Then bragging to his cool friends. Then mocking the boy whose password he took. Very malicious. This went on for over 2 weeks!
He is in deep doo doo. All puter priveledges at school have been pulled. Took his password away. For one week only. He has to ask to take the reading test, and a teacher must stand by him while he takes it! This is until the end of school.
At home, he did 15 test on the other boys name, so he owes me 15 book reports at his grade level. He has lost his electronic games and puter at home, and most of all our trust. He lied over and over in the office. But good ol' Dad, put the fear of God into him, and he finally came clean.
I think our fear is to handle this right, so that he has empathy for the underdog, and will stand up for what is right. This is something that Dad and I will have to pray more about, but any direction and help is greatly appreciated. This is one of the reasons, we want our kids in public school. I know this is hard, but I want them to learn now, these lessons. Yikes! But I hate him being the bad guy...and love him so much. So he has to pay the piper when he gets home, and Dad has an extra consequence when he gets home.
AnneP.

Very wise woman you are Anne.

jamielea's picture

Very tough situation that of course you handled with Grace! Smiling I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers for the situation.

Dentist appointment for Tony and Trey went well. Trey had a cavity Sad so back on Thursday to fill that. Good news is they were able to do the sealants today, should keep him from getting anymore. Tony also has a couple cavities, but we expected that, he just got his braces off after a little over 2 years.

Bought a bubble blower today, Savannah and Trey are downstairs enjoying that.
Today's our anniversary, 10 years. I got DH a few DVD's he's been wanting. He sent me a beautiful bouquet of tulips in a nice cranberry colored vase, very sweet Smiling He also got me the 9th season of friends (what I asked for) Not going anywhere, just a nice dinner at home.

I have a Dr's appointment in the morning, then homeschool park day at 1:00. Tomorrow there celebrating the March birthday's so Trey will get a little party with some of his March pals. Should be fun.

I think DH just got home, I'll see you guys tomorrow.

remember my high school reunion last year?

Becky's picture

Anne, you might remember I went to my 10-year high school reunion last year. A couple of them who had been bullies as kids were still insufferable, but most of the ex-bullies had turned out just fine! I think as long as this is really out of character for Eric and he doesn't usually do this kind of thing, your consequences for him will take effect well.

Shaun, I still think you need to get a new toilet.

Well, OB appointment today was a wash. The idiot lady at the Metro hotline gave me the wrong bus directions, and by the time I figured it out there was no way to get there on time, even by taxi. (DH was at an appointment himself at the time, or I would have called him and asked him for a ride.) So I called them from the halfway point, and they let me reschedule for the same time next week. I had left an hour earlier than I "needed" to and it still wasn't enough. Next time, I guess I'll leave TWO hours early! The good news is, the office staff was really nice about the whole thing. I don't know how I sounded because I was flustered, so I might or might not have sounded brusque or something when I didn't mean to, but they were nice AND didn't charge me for the missed appointment.

TADA otherwise: did a load of laundry

Oh Anne, What a Tough One

witchiepoo's picture

And you handeled it so well.

One thing I value and treasure over and over these days is our kid's ability and willingnes to communicate with us, and a friend once told me if you want that to happen you have to have "two ears and one mouth." It's so true! I found the less I talk the more they will. It's so hard to keep an open mind and see their side when they are just plain wrong.

Speaking of which...
My DS13 left the battery charger plugged in since Friday. DH discovered a house full of smoke when he came home tonight because the wires had melted and the place they go into the charger was melting too. It came really, really close to burning the house down. This is the same thing that started the fire in the shop, and DH was so upset, it was almost like he was having flashbacks. DS can't stop crying. Yikes. I wish we could go out for chai tonight Anne.

Andrea's picture

Hi all!

Enjoying a rare moment of quiet - DH is at a move, kiddos in bed, just me and the dog! (who needs to be walked)

Jo, how weird is that?! Gosh I'm glad you caught it in time.

Anne, you are dealing with a tough situation in a loving and appropriate way and Eric will benefit from it. He has two loving parents and is learning life's lessons - he will be better for it.

Heidi, boy those peppers sound good - do you do the hamburger and rice thing? Yum.

Worked M, and T, off tomorrow but in kids' classes, then Cubs, then two P/T conferences - no surprises I hope.

Good nite all -

Yippee For Mid-Week!!

Vonnie's picture

Good morning fellow-Flybabies! I feel like I haven’t been here in ages, at least not completely here. Between my office work and the pressures there and then DD’s softball, we have been busy, busy, busy!

I’m not going to try to personally comment to everyone, since I haven’t had a chance to read back through everything. I’ll just jump in where I am, as FlyLady says!

My PODA:

• Get DD to preschool on time
• Work at my office
• Pick up my rings from jewelry repair
• Put dinner in crockpot
• Take DD to my Mom’s to watch while I
• Have my first mammogram (the “girls” are not looking forward to this!)
• Laundry
• Generally straighten up
• AWANA at 6:30

So far this morning, I have a short TADA list as well:

• Laundry – folded one load of towels, put load of darks & whites in dryer (I did wash them separately, but they were small loads so I am drying them together)
• Cleaned bathroom sink
• Ironed my pants to wear today
• Unloaded dishwasher
• Fixed Sister Shubert sausage rolls & had b’fast
• Cleaned kitchen
• Found CD Rom I need to do banner for boss’ b’day
• Prepared softball team member info sheet to mail (she wasn’t at practice last night)

I do have a question for you all (this is going to be sarcastic): why would a grown man pull out only three uniforms from his dirty clothes hamper to wash and dry instead of just washing & drying them all? I was so pleasantly surprised Monday morning to see that he had done laundry! Then, I pulled out what he had done from the dryer and discovered he had only done three! Left the others in the hamper! Huh? I think I’m going to tell him that his uniforms are his duty now & see when/if he washes the others. I don’t “get” his logic sometimes!

Ok, well I need to go get my clothes on. I am ready otherwise & DD is ready with the exception of fixing her hair. Her class is dressing up like a farmer today, so she has on her overalls! Cute!

Y’all have a great day!

Vonnie

scary about the charger Jo

Becky's picture

What kind of charger is it? Can you switch to a solar charger or disposable batteries? I know the latter aren't so great for many reasons, but they are better than a fire. Or is it for something that really needs charging and there's no other way to do it?

Heidi, yes, I'm feeling well otherwise. Thanks!

Have good conferences, Andrea!

Vonnie, I don't get the uniform thing, but your solution sounds good to me.

PODA:
-not much. Today is my first day off caffeine, and I'm seriously in withdrawal even though I cut down very gradually!
-if I'm up to it, get the car's oil changed
-put away the load of laundry I washed and dried yesterday

Vonnie, I'd love to see a pic

jennye's picture

Vonnie, I'd love to see a picture of your farmer daughter! LOL! Oh, and about the clothes, I gotta story for ya. My DH NEVER puts his clothes in the hamper. So, to teach him a lesson, I didn't do his laundry, I just piled it up on his side of the bed. It backfired. He decided that when he ran out of clothes, he would just put what he needed in the hamper and left the rest.

Anne, wow, you handled things very well!

Jo, SCARY!!!!! Glad all is ok now!

Becky, sorry about the dr. appt!

Well, we are on a 2 hour delay for school this morning. Got a few more inches of snow, so up to about 6 or 7 inches. I went out taking pictures and my stupid batteries died in the camera. Hopefully one will get charged before it melts off too much. Temps today in the 40's, tomorrow will be 65. And one wonders why we get sick so much!

I continued to just be lazy yesterday, and it was nice to just sit by the fire drinking hot chocolate. The kids did bundle up once and go play in the snow, but it didn't last long. Chance kept throwing off his gloves and his hands got too cold for him to play anymore, he just cried.

Today, I'm going to try to catch up on laundry (didn't I say this yesterday?), and other things around the house. Maybe I'll post a more detailed tada later. I do have a meeting after school with parents and teacher from Kindergarten to discuss Kinder. Graduation.

I have a friend (from another site) who wants to do scrapping on her computer. What do those of you who do that use? Sites? Programs?

Hi all -

Home from volunteering and having a late lunch.

Cool, snow Jenny! I don't feel so bad now to know that someone else has it too!

Good luck with the caffeine thing Becky! Have your friend check out scrapbook-bytes.com - it is a great resource. I don't do it yet, just do the traditional type, but am very interested in this.

Hi Vonnie - unreal about the uniforms!

Hi all!

Susannah's picture

I was feeling sorry for myself last night, and then I come here and find Anne is dealing with a major issue herself. And doing it well, as usual. Good for you and DH, Anne.

Well, three out of five kids were throwing up yesterday, but some good came of it. I got the recliner cleaned, which I'd been planning to do for a while anyway. Our Netflix came in the mail, so they got to watch cartoons on the couch. I didn't have to cook. We had popsicles for supper. Smiling (Two of them "tossed their popsicles" after, too.) Sheets and comforters from three beds got washed and dried. And three kids had a bath. So there's my ta da. Not bad! So far, the two littlest ones have escaped with just a few bad diapers. And I have escaped so far as well. May it continue to be so.

I've been planning next week's menu today, from the local sale flyers. I hope to avoid driving to Hartwell this week. Saves gas, and who knows if we're all the way over this bug. There's a skate day on Friday, but the truth is I really don't want to leave home. Even though we need to get out and the kids would probably enjoy it, the thought of managing five kids at a skate center, none of whom skate well if at all, just isn't appealing.

I might make up for it by taking them yard saling Saturday morning. If the weather cooperates.

Other than menu, the most I've done today is read to the kids and do some laundry. Not folding, though, of course. But at least it's clean!

Off to allrecipes. Later!

Just not in a working mood lately!

Happy Anniversary Jamielea! This will be our 10 year too. Of course I imagined that we would be taking a trip to London! Laughing out loud Actually, U2 is going to be here on our anniversary, so I am excited about that as well! (If I can possibly get a ticket.)

Sorry for the sickies, Susannah, what a drag. Keep that laundry going! Nothing worse than running out of sheets, trust me.

Anne, Jo, Jana, et al., I am so grateful to get to learn from your experience! (Susan too, if you're out there!) I am really daunted by thinking of the things my girls will face (and *do*!) as they get older, and it helps to hear the wisdom of those who've been there.

Gotta get to work, as always tons to do w/ freelancing. Really messed up my schedule for this month! Can't wait til April!

It sounds so good on paper...lol

Rooney's picture

Gosh, the solution sounds good on papers ladies, but my heart is so torn up with my little E! I love him and lying is like the worst in our home. But today is a new day, and he is still coming clean. He finally copped to all, and apologized to teachers this morning, and tonite, we go down to the parents house of the little boy, and he gets to be a little man, and apologize to them.
But as for flying...hee hee
1 load 1/2 done.
another load has been screaming bad things at me from the hamper on the couch...ha ha
started yet another(glutton for punishment)
Took kids to library program.
Found leak on water heater...not leak, loose faucet...tightened so voila' fixed!
Susannah! That is a rough time...but you're outlook is awesome, didn't have to cook, clean sheets and clothes.. Smiling
Becky-I went once to the computer scrapping, and was very overwhelmed. The ones I went to seemed very cliqueish..
Vonnie! I am proud of you for the mammagram...
Jo-I wish we could do chai also! What a rough time for you Jo! 2 steps forward 3 back it seems sometimes...I'm sitting down at 2 my time for a cup, will think of you and your family, that is safe!
Jenny! YOu are milking this snow girl! ha ha
I gotta go shut that pile of laundry up, or turn the music higher!

oh Becky...what a great idea...

Rooney's picture

E apologized to the parent today, but the little boy and Eric ate lunch today, and as far as the boys are concerned they are friends. My Eric is more upset, that his cohort in crime, hasn't even said sorry to Eric for him being in so much trouble. Which is a good thing. He is learning how to be and have a friend. I try to tell him that this "group" isn't his friends, but he is starting to see the light! Why do I hear my mom's voice? Smiling

Wow, Jenny, that's a lot of snow for you guys, isn't it? We are FINALLY starting to thaw and melt, but that+dirt roads=mud.

Vonnie, I love overalls on little ones. I love overalls on me too, but that's another story. Smiling

Becky, you sound so content and happy. I'm so happy for you.

Susannah, I've never had stomach upset kids, when mine get sick it tends toward headaches, strep throats, croup, sinus infections. I just can not imagine having two or three throwing up or other intestinal troubles at the same time. You are a true amazement to me.

Happy Anniversary, Jamielea! We will be 17 this year.

Andrea, how long do they give you for P/T conferences? Just curious, because I have heard of them as short as 10 minutes, and as long as 45.

OK, gotta go wash up DD

Been at the hospital all day............

Jana's picture

My granny went in for a scheduled procedure, came out fine and then had to rushed back in because she was bleeding. When she came out my dad was standing there and PASSED out and hit his head on her hospital bed, cracked it open. So, they admitted him and ran all kinds of tests. His blood pressure had dropped so low that is why he passed out. Still running more tests.

I am beat! Heading to bed!

long recovery

Candice's picture

Been back at work since last Monday but am struggling doing the long hours again, mainly i think because for the previous 3.5 weeks i have been too unwell to really go out much and do much other than basic housework. So being back at work, and with the long hours has taken its toll on my poor old body so that now, among other things, i have a sore and painful back. On Tuesday night i bent down to pick something up off the floor for a patient and i realised i couldn't get back up again. Too a sick day yesterday and today am seeing my physio to see if we can get me into a workable state for Saturday's shift.
PODA:
scrub shower
vacuum (the dog destroyed my fav shoes and there isn't much left!)
dishes (there is a tonne)
washing
ironing
mop the floors
take my mother to the doctors for her blood tests

Hopefully will be able to catch a movie with the other half this evening if i am lucky.

I just want to go back to my usual fit and healthy self. I just hate being sick. I am around sickies all day, the last thing i want is to be sick myself.

ugh

jennye's picture

Candice, hope the sickies go away. no fun at all!!

Jana, what a day! Glad all is going well now, or soon will be.

I got a couple loads of laundry done and the kitchen is clean! whoohoo! Well, sink and counters are all taken care of, and I know that will make me feel good in the morning when I wake up.

I've been playing around with spreadsheets having fun the rest of the day. And watching the Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica on MTV. That is the best thing that channel has to offer anymore. Remember back in the 80's when MTV was SO COOL! LOL! We watch/listen to some VH1 Classic now. In fact, an old Janet Jackson song came on and the girls loved it! They have the tape that was once DH's when he was little and listen to it all the time.

Alot of snow melted today, nearly all of it. Didn't get any more pictures.

Well, I'm off to bed. Going to try to read another chapter or two of Little Women. I'm not eating it up like I had hoped. Kinda boring, actually. Maybe it gets better. Or, maybe Jeff was right. I should have just rented the movie! LOL!

Jana, what a day!

jamielea's picture

Sorry to hear about your Dad and your granny but glad to hear that everythings ok now.

Thanks for all the Anniversary wishes Smiling

Jenny, I've seen a little bit of Nick and Jessica but I'm addicted to Real world/Road rules challenge Laughing out loud I have the DVR set to tape all the new episodes.

Well I had the Balance test today. Did well up till the end when they put a mask thing over my eyes to make it totally dark and then poured warm water in my ears, thought I might pass out. Luckily she said that was a normal reaction. I get the "official" test results back April 9th but "un-officialy" they told me in the office that they think the Dr's first diagnosis of Meiners (sp) disease was on target. For any of you who don't know what it is, it sounds ALOT worse than it is. Basically just the vertigo thing I told you guys about. Anywhoo, glad that's over with.

Trey has a dentist appointment in the morning. Tony and Anthony are both out of school tomorrow so I might see if I can put them to work, need some stuff done in the yard.

DH first alarm went off at 5am, I usually arise 1/2 later, after he is done fiddling in the house/bedroom/bathroom. But I popped up so quickly(going to bed at 9pm helps) and made some botulism for him and the kids when the begin to stir at 7!
Gotta alot planned today!
Friend with twins(boy&girl 3) over this am, she has lost her voice, and I am gonna be her spokesman to call the doctor, as she writes stuff out. My DH says I have found my calling! ha ha
Then to Walmart for electric skillet and a few misc. As one of the ladies who brought food when I had the hyst, is coming over to teach me how to cook it(fried chicken!!!) She says her skillet is her best friend, so DH said to get that taste in his mouth, buy the skillet... Laughing out loud So dinner is done, I just have to do the mashed pots and green beans (and some homemade rolls)
I was gonna attempt bagels this am,while my mute buddy is here, she is a cooker also, so might keep us occupied!
My screaming laundry(well one basket is done) might have to rewash the one that sat all nite in washer.. eek
Swish the bathrooms

Been at the school delivering notes to cheerleaders. Found out one transferred schools and didn't turn her uniform in!! Hopefully I can track her down still. Also did my school news for the paper. I have to run to town to get vegetables for a spring party dd7's class is having. I signed up for cupcakes, but teacher changed it. Is It The Weekend Yet?

Vonnie's picture

Of course, I would like to be well for the weekend; maybe one more "weekday" and I'll be good to go for Saturday & Sunday. This sinus/cold junk is killing me! I'm flying just enough to get by, let me tell ya!

I have a laundry/clothing question for everyone. I try really hard to set out my clothes for the next day the evening before. I would *like* to do this on Sundays for the whole week. Does anyone do this? If so, do you pair the outfits together on hangers once you've pressed them, etc.? Do you change your mind much or pretty much stick to what you've picked out? I'm just trying to decide if it would just be a waste of time for me.

OK, I do have a few TADAs:

* Took DD to preschool
* Laundry (last load is in dryer)
* Ran dishwasher
* Put chicken chili in crockpot
* Went to TJ Maxx and scored 5 dressy church dresses for DD for the spring/summer
* Took DD to Target to get a fit on new tennis shoes and white Sunday shoes (her foot is reallllly growing right now)

DH has an eye appt. at 5. It's at the dr. in the mall, so I may go and walk around with DD while he does that. Just casually strolling with no deadline or agenda might be fun for a change!

Well, I'd better get going. I may lay down on the sofa while Arthur is keeping DD's attention for the moment! See y'all!

Hi Anne - I am so impressed that you do all that baking. Wow! Bagels even!

Hi Heidi, I'm sure DD6 would love that project too, I'll have to save my egg carton. The school that I work at just wrapped up state tests too, very stressful for all.

Well, I have a 3 day weekend coming up - yay - then 2 days of work next weekend, then a 5-day weekend!

Becky's picture

Anne, I'm glad Eric and the other little boy are getting along better. Oh, did you explain to him that kids who get bullied sometimes grow up rich and famous and can be useful friends? Laughing out loud Oh yeah, and aren't homemade bagels wonderful? Wish I felt motivated to make them.

Jo, I hope you feel better. Fatigue is so annoying because it can be caused by everything and anything, so it's hard to figure out.

Jana, wow, that was quite a day! I think you had your share for a while now.

Candice, don't push yourself. Recovery takes time. If you push yourself out of frustration, it takes even MORE time. May as well give in and rest.

Jenny, I SO remember when MTV was cool! It's not even music anymore, it's like E! or something. Very lame.

Jamie, DH's grandmother has Meniere's disease. Sometimes it makes it worse when she watches TV, and sometimese it doesn't bother her at all. I hope yours doesn't bother you too much in the future.

Heidi, I'm glad your DS wasn't too stressed by the state achievement tests. They are more an issue for the teachers than for the students, anyhow.

Vonnie, why don't you try it (the clothes-for-the-week thing) a slightly different way each week for a few weeks and see how you like it best?

Andrea, enjoy your 3-day and 5-day weekends!

TADA:
-forgot to wear green, oh well
-shined sink (it still counts in the middle of the day, I say!)

Went to the physio/massuer yesterday and now my whole back and spinal column feels bruised but at least i can move. Have to go back to work tomorrow afternoon and back again on Sun morning so am really fearful of how things will be after the two shifts.

DH has been very helpful to me as i can't do much around the house. Its so nice to know that when the women are down, the men are capable of assisting! Am about to go out to coffee with my best friend, before coming back and hitting the housework. Ive realised the more one cleans, the quicker it is to get dirty again...

DH is out reading essays for a contest the Lions club is doing. Actually, they are doing it at our old house that we are renting out still, so I'm anxious to hear how it looks inside now (the guy is a great renter, always pays on time, and has really fixed up the place). I'm just hanging out working on a database list for DH. Me and my lists! LOL!

It's our last day of school before Spring Break!! WHOOHOO!! No waking up too early next week and having to go somewhere everyday. We are going to get this house cleaned up and the yard too. Lots of stuff to do. The weather looks like it will be nice, in the 60's and 70's for the highs, hopefully the winds won't be too bad during all that.

Crazy busy

Shaun's picture

Lots going on lately, just buzzing by . . .

Jana, hope all is OK with your family now. What a lot all at once!

Talent show for the elementary school was tonight, DD5 played piano. It was so much fun! 75 kids were in the show, which is a big chunk of the school. The kids were all very respectful of each other and everyone cheered like crazy for each act, even for the kid who got up and sang a fairly tuneless rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle." My DD was the 2nd act, and some of the kids in her class cheered "Go Sophie Go!" when she first got onstage. I left feeling so great about our school community!

DD5 has also been invited to a meeting of the "Cheeseweasles" tomorrow at a little boy's house -- a group of the Kindergartners have been playing this game at recess for a while, so he's having a Cheeseweasles gathering. So I am looking forward to a low key morning after dropping her off!

DH is experimenting with cocktails lately, so he's out getting some exotic ingredients. Hope I can stay awake until he comes back! If the rest of the week is any indication, he can expect to find me snoozing on the sofa in a few minutes.

Happy weekend everyone!

Warning: Vent to Follow

witchiepoo's picture

OK, this is the only safe place I can think of to vent...

My niece totally cut off DD's hair tonight. I mean totally! It's gone, just gone. I'm sitting here bawling about something as dumb as hair when so many other things are so much more important, but I am just so pi**ed.

DD and I both have really fine hair. It just does not look good short, it looks really dumb. I know it's just hair and I'm being stupid, but she's my baby, and she's never had a haircut. I have trimmed it twice to be even, but this is really traumatic. It's all just gone. OK, I'm repeating myself now. I'll go. I know I'm being stupid...

Woo Hoo U2!

Shaun's picture

Guess what I'm doing the night of my 10th wedding anniversary?!?! We lucked out and got tickets to U2 in Minneapolis (show sold out really fast), so we'll go to the show and then stay in a fancy downtown hotel after. Yippee!! (Mom said she would come out to stay with the kids.) I've never seen U2 in concert, so I am very very excited.

Sorry about the hair-cutting, Jo. It's a kid rite-of-passage I think. My DD and her best friend did it to each other *during* preschool while the teacher wasn't watching. (?!) I don't blame you for being upset, I know I was too.

Hope the rest of you are having a good weekend -- I gotta get some work done and then clean up the house for the sitter tonight (don't want to be reported to social services, y'know Big grin )

Anne - all you cooking is making me want to come and visit! Have fun with your ALONE time!

My granny is doing well. She goes back to the Dr on Monday for a follow up. My daddy is also doing well. He has an appt with a dr next week.

I have a cold!! I am tired of being sick. Tired I say! DS6 is being a crab and just plain ole grumpy. DH took DS4 with him to help a friend move and DS6 and I stayed home to clean house. I told him we were gonna clean the grumpiness out of him. SO far no luck but the house is looking better! Smiling

Hi Flyfriends!!

Tigerlilly's picture

Just jumping in really fast for a quick flyby while Alexa entertains herself in her pack and play. We have had a busy week- DH was on vaca- he put down a Wilsonart wood floor in my kitchen into the den area. I love it! He is the most patient man alive being that he isnt really handy but he learned what to do and picked away at it all week. It looks so great!

Jo, I am sorry about DD's hair. I would be so so pi$$ed off also!! I hope you let your niece's momma know how mad you are Sad

Anne- I am sorry for what you are going through with your Ds. I have absolutely no experience in this area but it sure sounds like you are handling it well. Not exactly the same situation but my Dstepson was caught with something he should not have had ( some pot) when he was 14. It seemed he was hanging out with different kids and wanted to be cool. I know you cant blame the other kids for what your child does, but he did realize that he didnt want to be like them and he is back to normal now. (somewhat LOL Eye-wink.. Anyways I think 14 is a hard age self exteem wise for boys.. Hang in there- this too shall pass....

Jamielea sounds like you had a nice visit with your MOm. I hope your feeling good- did they give you anything for the vertigo?

OK gotta be quick- Dh will be back with lunch in a minute and I am supposed to be getting the kitchen back in order. Wanted to say Hi! to you guys fast!!!
Heres a week tada:
~put down kitchen floor. (Well really Dh did it but I helped a little) Smiling
~sent out baby shower invitations for Dsil
~traded in our truck since the lease was up. We got a Nissan PAthfinder- I love it!!
~walked to library with Alexa and finally got a library card. I ahve lived here 6 years.
~went out to dinner with Dh ALONE for the first time in 9 months 3 weeks Smiling
Thats about it. Oh and another tada- tomorrow is my 5 year quitting smoking anniversary. WOOHOOO One of the best and hardest things I have ever done. Smiling :)

Hi Jana - wow you are busy today! HOPe DS6's mood improves!

Sounds like a great anniversary Shaun - you are so lucky to get tickets!

Jo, I don't blame you one bit for being upset - that is a major bummer!

Anne, how about UPSing me some of that yummy food you have been making?!

We had friends over last nite for homemade lasagna and lots of wine! It was fun but I am in recovery mode today Eye-wink I made the American Lasagna from allrecipes. HIghly recommend it - it had over 1000 ratings and 5 stars.

Today DD6 had dance and then the kids and i went up to see James and the Giant Peach at the Children's Theater. Very cute. Then we strolled along the Erie Canal (which is slowly thawing), fed the ducks and had lunch at a new place.

PODA? TADA????? Nonexistent today - DH did paint the br while I was gone though and the laundry is done.

Have a good nite all-

Slow Saturday

DN is 5 and she was jealous of DD's ponytails, so she cut them off and cut her bangs all the way up on her forehead, they are about a quarter inch long. DD never had bangs before. We took her down this morning to have it repaired as much as possible. It looks better, but it is super short, and I think she just looks odd. She is pretty upset too. DSIL made her DD come down for the haircut this morning and pay for it. She also was going to make her DD get the exact same haircut, but I wouldn't let her. They are 4 and 5 years old. We did have a long talk though about jealousy and better ways to handle it. And asking grownups first.

OH NO!! Jo, I would be so ma

jennye's picture

OH NO!! Jo, I would be so mad too!! I love my girls with their long hair, even though sometimes its a pain in the rear to brush out (DD7 is very tenderheaded, it's a daily battle).

Jackie, I'm jealous of the floor! I want one of those for my LR, DR, kitchen, and the room we are going to turn the garage into someday (was going to be a family room with a bar and pooltable. Changed to a toy room, now I think it's going to be a music room).

I'm being kinda lazy. Picking up here and there. I'm just not very motivated lately beyond routines. part of that first trimester thing (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!! LOL!)

Hair Cuts

Susannah's picture

Jo, sounds like her mom did the right thing! Quite irksome, that. Elias cut himself a bald spot a week or so ago. Thank goodness for boys and buzz cuts. They actually look better with all their hair cut off.

I'm not going to church today. I feel all wrong in the tummy. Yet, if I don't lose it today I'll wonder later if I wimped out. Ew, and somebody needs his diaper changed, too. Not sure I'm up to this.

I bought some dinosaur manipulatives at that yard sale a couple of weeks ago, and 3yo DS has done nothing but beg to play with them since I trotted them out the other day. But I am determined to reserve them strictly for homeschooling. I have precious little (besides videos) that will keep the boys occupied during that time. I know a gold mine when I see it.

I regret, now that I am feeling "off," that I went to my mother's yesterday. But it was for good cause; she needed help getting her computer back in the house and hooked up again. She can't bend real well right now. Friday night, she bailed us out by coming over to watch the kids while I took DH to the ER for a severe headache. It turned out to be a bad migraine (doctor tested reflexes & etc.), but ever since my dad we are leery of severe headaches. DH has never had one this terrible before, even though he's had sick migraines very occasionally. They pumped him full of 5 different medicines via IV and I was wondering how on earth I was going to get a 180-lb. guy back out to the car when it was all over. They ended up wheeling him out.

Okay, TMI, I guess. Sorry.

As for today, I guess I'll catch up the laundry (what else?) and read up on classical homeschooling some more. I'm thinking about introducing Greek this coming year. DH can teach it since he knows koine Greek. I found a promising curriculum last night. As for the standardized testing, I ordered the booklet and started DD8 on it Friday. It was like pulling teeth. Sad We haven't even made it to a math lesson yet and already I'm seeing weaknesses in the spelling section. Erg. But the good thing is, she's getting practice matching the test question and filling in the answer bubbles, and the test administrator told me that was a major thing she needed to be familiar with. It's just like the ITBS format, too, which is helpful.

Made it through the diaper. Whew!

Well, I'm off to do some exploring. I sure hope someone updates the Corner today in their off time. It's been good reading lately.

Love,

Susannah

hi all

Becky's picture

Susannah, it's VERY good to stay home from crowded places like church when you feel off. You might not lose it, but if an old person or little kid catches whatever you have-- yikes.

I'm kind of drifting through the day. I really need to get some laundry done, and feel pretty off myself. Mostly just tired. DH and I went to an absolutely dreadful birthday party for my cousin's two-year-old yesterday, and I'm still recovering.

Hi

Andrea's picture

Please share Becky, sounds interesting!

That's great that the construction has started Jo - exciting.

Hi Jackie - funny about the cat food - my kids still do that and they are 6 and 8! Guess it won't kill them!

Hi Susannah - gosh I hope DH is okay, scary!

We did church this am and then came home and did a few chores. Don't feel like groceries, but I gotta do it, busy week ahead.

The kids and I made it to chu

jennye's picture

The kids and I made it to church. DH stated as I was putting on my jacket to head out the door that he didn't want us to go to Sunday School so I could come home and get Chance from him. Well, the kids WERE going to Sunday school because I needed to go get some groceries. So I ran around madly getting Chance dressed to go with me. And we were supposed to be there early today so the girls could carry palms in! Tried putting him in the nursery, he lasted 5 minutes when the lady walked him into the church. They didn't even TRY to take care of him!! Let me tell you, it was a lovely service. I have no idea what the sermon was about or ANYTHING, it's all just a blur with a few songs. DH says I should just stay home from church anyway, but that just pisses me off for him to say that. I'm not in the best of moods today. Can ya tell? LOL!

I'm also a bit grumpy about something else. When people are finding out I'm pregnant, I'm getting a strange look from people and sometimes "I'm sorry!". Susannah, was this a reaction you got? They don't seem to believe me when I say this is a planned pregnancy.

We will probably go to Jamboree practice for a little while. The big Cheerleaders will be practicing too, and I need to talk to their coach. Chance hasn't napped yet, so if I time it just right, he will fall asleep in the truck, giving me an hour or so to visit with people. I got the girls room cleaned yesterday, picked up Chance's, and a load of laundry. I think I discovered where Chance put the holder for the toilet paper. I think it's down the toilet, it's overflowing with every flush. I stuck my hand in as far as I could (and almost didn't get it back out!!), can't feel anything. I'm afraid I will have to take the whole damn toilet out. For now, that toilet is off limits.

I'm not motivated today, just ranting. Thanks, Jackie, for the kind comments on my hard work! LOL! That made me smile.

Have a nice weekend.

Life is a bit spongy today!

Rooney's picture

My day away was a long one...5 hours into Tex, and handing out flyers for concert all day, the concert, and 5 hours back home! Got home and into bed at about 1:30am! DH was so incrediable, he got up early, went and got me and him breakfast burritos, and the kids donuts, so the a.m. rush for church was really easy. I came home right from church and crashed 2 hours...everyone waited to eat til I got up, and we went to TADA: Chili's(yummy)
so, I am catching up with 'puter, and everyone's post.
Jenny...I got so mad reading your post! Wanted to have you come to church with me, when we have "boys" that want to "Play Hard" for nursery, I take them on runs outside, and play. I am real proud of you though for still wanting to go to church, you could just say forget it, but you arn't! Just keep on, and try not to hit those folks who don't think before they speak. I remember a funny response to woman who say..."I'm sure glad those arn't my kids"..."my kids are sure glad they aren't either" tee hee...goodness I can get catty when it comes to lovin' up on kids!
JO!!!!!! Yahoo to you and the foundation! That is such great news. I wish I could have been there! Your handleing of the haircut situation is in my memory banks, and the hope I don't have to withdraw. Smiling
Susannah-a little off? You wouldn't be...nah...maybe??? Did you drink the water?
Jackie-is cat food bad for her? She might just eat it cause you say no...put a bowl of cheerios on the ground? Laughing out loud
And I am very proud of you on the library card!!
Andrea! Thanks for the heads up on the american lasagna, I have looked at that a few times. Will have to put it on list for next week!
Jana, your list made me tired...love your motto...my goal is to make my house decluttered to get that ROOMBA...I am reading I robot, and all I can think about is Shaun and her little robot!
Shaun! I love U2! What a great time!
Tada? PoDA??

Andrea's picture

HI everyone!

Loved your post Anne - you are so right about the church thing. We are in the process of changing churches (sadly) and those are things that matter! The lasagna is the best - it is totally from scratch, not even jarred spaghetti sauce, but very manageable to make. So far it has fed our dinner party of 4, another dinner for our family, and lunches for DH and I tomorrow at work.

Jenny E, gosh that sounds like a rough morning, but I don't get what Jeff was saying about Chance and S.S.

Susannah, hope you are your old self soon!

DH made a Quick Cassoulet tonite and I made a salad and will make homemade croutons (from a baguette) to go with it. It is from Rachael Ray's 30-minute cookbook, love most of those recipes and they are pretty quick.

I got quite a bit done today, including sheets, dust mopping, laundry, church, Zone, and some scrapping!

Oh - I made a major faux pas at church by congratulating a lady who I thought was pregnant, when she had actually miscarred. She was only about 3 weeks along when she shared the news and I heard it through the grapevine. Awkward to say the least. How bad is that, for any of you who have been through it?

Must run -

Andrea

oh, heck

Becky's picture

I'M getting those funny looks and comments and questions, and this is my first. When I went to the drugstore and bought the pregnancy test last month, the cashier said, "Uh-oh!" I think there are maybe a lot of people out there who don't like kids, period.

Jeff and Sunday School

jennye's picture

Andrea, SS is after the service at our church. The girls love to stay, but there isn't really a class I want to join in (there is no one my age), so I usually just run to walmart and get groceries, then come back to get the girls. Jeff had things to do and wanted me home as soon as church was out. Well, I needed to get a few groceries, so I would be that much longer anyway. That's why I took Chance with me instead.

Anne, where in Texas did you go?

Had fun at Jamboree practice. My plan worked, Chance slept for a while, I watched the cheerleaders practice in the New Gym, Jamboree Practice in the old gym, and practice for the gospel show in the cafeteria (the girls have been asked to sing in that one!! They are going to do "Jesus Loves Me"). Had too much fun visiting. LOL! A mom, her 6th grader and my girls are going to the Spirit Competition together, and we have decided we are having a pajama party with all the cheerleaders! That should be fun!!

Have a great night, see ya'll in the morning!

Sunday night wrap-up

Shaun's picture

Beautiful sunny day today -- 30 degrees of course, but lovely sun!

We also got the whole family to church today, and for once DH liked the new pastor's homily. (The new pastor's style is a lot different from the pastors we've had before, so it's been an adjustment. I like it!) And we got to put Iris in the nursery! Of course it helps that no one else was in there. Our nursery just can't get enough volunteers. Parents don't like to do it -- and they do ask for a huge commitment. If you're already doing something like singing, lectoring, serving communion, participating on committees, doing sunday school, whatever, it is quite a lot to be in the nursery once a month as well.

Wish I could respond to everyone, but I am so sleepy I keep reading over ya'lls posts and then thinking, now wait, who said what ? . . .

Will be thinking of you Susannah, that things calm down and you feel "on" again!

Anne, you will love your Roomba if you get one! I am just waiting for mine to recharge after doing the living room/play area, so that I can turn it loose on the disaster in the kitchen (flour and baking powder everywhere!).

I tried!

jennye's picture

I tried starting a new thread, but didn't work. LYNNN!!!! HELPPPPP!!!

The wind is blowing horrible today. 25-35 MPG with 45-50 gusts. There are tumbleweeds racing across the pastures, and just bleh. It's supposed to be in the 60's, but I'm not going out there!!

I have a problem. I can't ever get a handle on the hot spots throughout the house. I have a huge corner of stuff in my bedroom. I have no surface exposed on the dresser or old entertainment center in there, or nightstands. I really HAVE to do some major cleaning in there. And since that is the zone this week, clean in there I shall! I have to throw things away. Like the zippered cases that my new quilt and pillow shams came in. I'm saving them for just in case I need them. Cute gift bags from 2 Christmases ago. A couple of Christmas gifts! LOL! A sample diaper that came in the mail Lord knows how long ago (which was already too small for Chance). Ok, that can go in the baby's stuff. Also, tons of spare change in a couple of coffee cans. Think I'll roll those up and use them for my Alb. trip. Oh, and Chance has somehow removed and then lost the access card for the satelite dish in my room. So, the only thing he can watch in there now is his video tapes. Hmmm, where on earth did it go!!!

Speaking of Alb. trip, I told DH about the slumber party. He told me to take the camera! LOL! He has a "crush" on the only senior on the squad. Chance has a crush on her, too. It's very funny. I keep reminding him that he could actually be old enough to be some of those girls' father. No, he's not a pervert (at least, not that kind), I think he just misses his high school days sometimes. The old remark brings him back down to earth (he's just 32!).

Well, my toast is gone, I better do some work. I hope to have a big TADA later! LOL!

I need a PoDa to motivate me!

Rooney's picture

I need to have something to harass me all day. Smiling
PoDa
encourage girls in cleaning classroom(our large hallway!)
pick up all the playdough Dad let kids play with in office while I was gone(went to Big Spring, Texas by the way JennyE)
fold laundry and put away girls
fold laundry and stack for boys
blessing in desperate need!

Have another set of twins(3 year olds comeing for the day) and another almost 4 year old coming for a couple hours today. Friends all have plans, and the more the merrier here. lol
Gonna pull out the sandbox and get them dirty and have messy foods outside! heehee

Hi Flyfriends!!

Tigerlilly's picture

I am **officially** now a Mommy. I have been puked on! Alexa has had diarrhea on and off yesterday that I thought was from her teeth. She was fine coloring eggs just some bad diapers and 3 outfit changes. Woke up at 4am to screaming and a very messy cribby. (sorry tmi!) She has a fever and she can only keep down small amounts of Pedialyte mixed with water. And I have learned I will never be as prepared as I think I am. Of course I had no Pedialyte, tylenol or motrin in the house. Bad Mommy!! I never thought I would say I miss my very active little girlie but I am so not used to this mush girl I have been holding since 4am. I have to work tonight only 5-9pm but I already have a stomache ache thinking of leaving her. And I think she has separation anxiety?? LOL... And Susannah I have thought of you lots today- this is our first real sickness and I have read about you going through it lots. I hope everyone is feeling better by yo.

So quick tired waves to everyone!!

No real tada except
~washed lots and lots of pukey laundry
~got dressed for work
~ate a healthy lunch after I realized I ate about 6 pieces of Pudgies chicken last night without even noticing! I will get back on track this week!

Jenny, I got a similar thing when I was pregnant with DD because the boys were so old. Everyone just assumed that she was from a second marriage...I mean, yes, she was unexpected, but it was noones business how/why or anything else...people are just so nosy and no it all about pregnancy. It's weird. Don't worry about it-you sure know what you're doing.

Susannah, I hope you are feeling better too.

Shaun, you are our official Roomba mother (aren't I punny?)

OK, I'd better go get a grip on my sanity and get through the rest of the day...

Anyone Else Having Trouble Getting On Here?

Vonnie's picture

It seems that the past 3 or 4 days, I cannot get onto the site for several hours at a time, usually in the mornings. Maybe it's just me...

We have the "sickies" now. DD came home from my Mom's yesterday with a 101.6 fever. After meds, juices, sleep, it finally went down last night. Poor baby slept from 4 p.m. yesterday to 7 a.m. this morning, getting up only a few times.

We're about to get slammed by some bad weather. They're talking strong, straight-line winds and hail with the strong possibility of tornadic activity. I just got a lecture from DH about getting in the hall with blankets, pillows, covering our heads, etc. I know he's concerned, but I've lived in Alabama for 37 years & I definitely know the drill with tornadoes.

Well, I'm not going to take the time to post my PODA. I've got to go find the battery-powered radio, flashlight and get DD dressed into some playclothes. I hear the thunder rumbling now.

I'll check back later (assuming I have power and can even get on this site!).

Vonnie

Tuesday

jennye's picture

Vonnie, took a long time for the pages to load for me today. How funny you get the tornado drill lecture! We don't have them too often here, DH laughs at me as I put the kids in the hallway when we have a watch or warning. they think it's fun, like camping out, they have their flashlight and sleeping bags and I have the laptop checking the radar. LOL!

Jana, ugh, that doesn't sound fun. Sickies and studying for Govt. double ugh.

Jackie, Alexa just now puked on you!? Wow! Welcome to mommyhood! LOL!

Shaun, everything ok there? Read about the school shooting, doesn't sound too very far from you.

Supposed to be 65 with 15-25 winds. Not as bad as yesterday, maybe I'll get outside and work in the yard a little. Yesterday I did get quite a bit done in my room, DH commented today that he hadn't seen the floor in the corner in so long, he didn't know it had carpet (followed by a glare from me). He quickly got his boots on and out the door. LOL!

I've got to catch up on some desk stuff, and filing. Three months worth because I haven't gotten around to pulling out all of last years filings to be stored away. Think I'll treat myself to making new manilla file folders, the ones in there are a few years old and getting pretty ragged.

Ya'll have a great day!!

Brave or Stupid?

Rooney's picture

I completely passed out last nite! The crowd of kids meant, no driving anywhere...lol...so we walked to the neighborhood park and played for an hour, walked home, had to pick up boys from school, we(all 5 kids, 3-3 year olds) walked to pick up the boys, we were a quite the group on the walk home! The parents of the twins, I invited for dinner last minute(good friends, didn't even swish the bathroom)! So we had adult laughs about the kids. haha
But I have a Tada from yesterday,
folded and put away 2(yes folks 2) loads of laundry!
Vacumned up all the playdough from front office, DH was unaware of the rules for playdo, and the kids played stupid, and had it in the office.
Dusted and decluttered front office also!
Watered all the plants...woowee...have one that is struggling...
I pulled a bit on my tummy scar area yesterday, lifting kidlets to the monkey bars...so I am gonna take it a bit easy today!
PoDa
2 loads of my laundry
bathe girls
bathe me
bathrooms, swept, sprayed and mopped
help girls in their room get things back where they need to be, after having the kids here yesterday! Smiling

Susannah's picture

Can you post pictures? I'd love to see.

you're doing well Anne

Becky's picture

I SO wish some of the parents of the bullies I taught had done half as much as you are doing!

There is one additional thing that could be done, if you feel the need for more. I don't know if you have a friend or anyone who can do this for you, but-- I had a teacher who went above and beyond for me and another girl when we were just about Eric's age. There was a girl in my third-grade class who bullied the heck out of me. I didn't exactly accept this with grace and there were all kinds of disruptions to the class which affected the whole class. Our teacher, knowing that we would have to be in the same class for the rest of elementary school, figured out a common interest-- we both liked dogs, and the teacher happened to have a cute little lapdog. So she had us both over to her house to meet her dog, and used that as a way for us to get to know one another's good points. This girl and I never became close, but we both stopped causing so much trouble and sometimes helped one another out when the situation called for it. So anyway, if there is someone neutral-ish who might be able to find a commonality between Eric and this boy, and if the other boy's parents allow it, that might possibly be helpful.

Sorry

I don't blame you for being upset. How old is your niece?
