Vacation morning

Andrea's picture

Morning everyone!

Thanks for starting the thread Anne - hope you have a great day!

I am enjoying the slower pace of a vacation morning. I exercised, walked dog, fed kids and I. Now I'm off to:

shower
Zone
Wal-Mart
dog groomer for nail trim
drop stuff at apt.
lunch with friend at her house
organize my scrapping stuff

Vonnie, I feel the same way about eating at home - it is gratifying to know we are saving that $ and also not eating fast food! Of course, we do love to go out too - try to limit it to once or twice a week though and nothing too pricey. Hope the refinance thing works out for you.

Gotta run!

Andrea

BIG TADA.....

Jana's picture

I got up and walked for 30 min this morning before work.

That is big for me since I DO NOT exercise!!!!!

Had a blast this weekend and really feel refreshed and ready to move on with things......set some personal goals. Came home to a house full of boys missing me so that was nice also.

PODA:
laundry - I have one problem. I have bubble gum (from MY pocket)
all over the inside of my dryer. Any ideas how to get it off?
Need to hit the kitchen with a good swip and spif
Place BeautiControl order

look up some books on proof reading
make menu

Have a wonderful Monday! And the ones that have off enjoy it!!!

Andrea, isn't vacation wonderful?

Vonnie, good luck with the re-fi

Anne, I did the same thing this morning! I got out of bed at the usual $:40 and had the coffee all made before I remembered it was vacation, but luckily I was able to go right back to sleep.

Have a super day flyfriends!

Tuesday....

julhome's picture

...and all day yesterday I thought it was Wednesday. If today really HAD been Thursday I might have been able to help my friends out with their last minute child care crisis.

Well, my weekend PODA was successful. All except the call from the girlfriend. Her kids were gone all weekend, and she didn't call after telling me how much she really needed to talk to me....HMMMMM. Methinks she solved SOMETHING Eye-wink

Dinner out was great both nights. Yes, mom gave me enough $$ to get my hair foiled and cut, so that was great, too. Especially great was my dinner Saturday night.

Debbie and I made definite plans for my watching the boys some over the summer, since I don't work at the university. They'll bring them to my house Monday evenings, so that they can stay over (meaning Debbie and Brian don't have to do any kid stuff in the a.m.--plus the boys and I can sleep as long as we want--plus I can do a few things at home before we all head down to their house for the rest of the day.) Thursday mornings I'll head to their house--I'm going that way anyhow for Bible Study. The boys can stay in the nursery during Bible Study--something they used to always do anyway before Debbie went back to work--then back to their house. I think it'll be a great arrangement.

After dinner we stopped at Barnes and Noble, then Best Buy, then Dick's Sporting Goods. Then back to their house to watch a movie. It was SOOO disturbing. Has anyone seen it? It's called "Monster", and it's the true story about that hooker in FL who was executed for killing all those men. Sad and gruesome at the same time.

Things are starting to look up at the chocolate shop. Much less stressful. Here's hoping.

Brian and I had 12 kids in our group at Adventure Club last night. Not bad considering everyone was off of their routine with there being no school. It's been really fun having these third- and fourth-graders.

PODA this week? Trying to get routines back in order after the wild week.

Oh, and I have another Spanish test--blew the first one!

Good luck with the refinance, Vonnie. It'll be a good starting-over point. I'm glad Jana had a great weekend--sounds like something I'd love to do. And, now Jo has made me hungry for Mexican. Sheesh!

Must run--have a great day,
Jul

Quick hi

Shaun's picture

Sooo overwhelmed here at the moment! Just trying to get the essentials done and keep going.

Sounds like this is a busy time for everyone -- is it the short month?

Got to spend the morning in DD5's kindergarten -- fun, but *hard work*! I was tired out after 2 hours. It was a special day celebrating the 100th day of school, and I staffed the "estimation center," where we did various estimation activities related to 10s and 100s. The favorite was invariably the walk around the school to see how far we could get with 100 steps! Finally with the last group I figured out to have them hold a long chain of plastic links we had used for another activity to keep them together so they wouldn't go tearing off without me. Seems like someone wants to sprint ahead and someone always drags about 10 ft. back.

OK, gotta get to work! Work is tedious and frustrating lately. Sad Looking forward to getting some of these projects out the door in the next few weeks!

saving dinner

Tiff's picture

I hate to butt-in here since I'm not an official flybaby, but I was just wondering if you think flylady's book "Saving Dinner" has inexpensive and quick recipes. I hate to buy one more cookbook unless I will actually use the recipes this time. I intend to buy "Sink Reflections" at the same time and then I may actually FLY! Thanks for your opinions. ~Tiff

Shopping Day

witchiepoo's picture

Went for DS14's room stuff and did quite well! Got a bedskirt (tailored white linen), a matress pad, a sheet set (denim blue with white stripes), a down pillow-top bed cover thingy, a down comforter (white), a curtain set (tab-top denim), a black iron scroll curtain rod, an extra set of bed pillows with black cases, and a black bean bag chair. All for less than $200! Clearance and white sales, K-Mart, WalMart, and LNT 20% off coupon. Smiling He's got a whole denim blue/white/black thing going on and it looks very nice. I only wish we could have found an area rug for those wood floors.

TADA
one load laundry

PODA
dinner: steak, green beans, mushrooms

maybe another load of laundry

Have a great evening ladies!

Good Evening! Jo-good goin

heidic's picture

Good Evening!

Jo-good going on the sale items for your DS room! My Ds has a denim comforter with red sheets and denim blue blinds, blue red and green plaid toss pillows, wood floors with a blue area rug. Try a carpet store and ask for remnants. that can be an inexpensive way to get an area rug.

DS is doing homework, must get up there when he gets stuck with reading something.

DD is in bathtub surrounded in bubbles...

and hear I sit trying to chill.

i need to get over my techno phobia and learn how to set up this printer that my Dad got for us. Supposedly I can put my digital camera card in it and print out photos. Would be fun and easier than doing it at Walmart. We shall see.

See you all in the morning.

Heidi

tiff..you come in as much as you want...you are welcome

Rooney's picture

I did it...I wanted to come post so many times today...but wouldn't til the laundry was done. gosh!
TaDa
4 loads of laundry done
top of my dresser...yech
Also cleared out a junk drawer in my dresser (that is so sad) and was able to take an overstuffed drawer and split it to the previous junk drawer.
girls both read their first words today!! Anna read POP, and Abby got LOG! They are brilliant! Big grin We did fun school and I decided to try the Saxon Phonics program I use for Gabriel and did the first lesson, and they got it...So for 2 hours they took turns as I yelled good job and squealed excitedly as they got each word! Gosh, I love this part!
DH and I have been back and forth on the phone/puter together trying to find a hotel in SanDiego for his conference that the kids and I can stay with him, and be close to the shuttles and McDonalds! Smiling
Jo? Kmart has some really great rugs, and they go on sale every 6 weeks or so, 25% off. Real fluffy ones! Amazingly, Home Depot or Lowes has some great sales also!
Tiff, I have the book, but if you listen to the Mom show on Thursdays...can find link on flyladies site, you call and ask LeAnn any question you have about the book, and she will send you a book for free. I got thru way easy! I won the book, and have read it, but haven't tried any recipe as of yet. But plan on it soon...Doing the whole week is just scary to me...I will add a new one every couple weeks. But, there are some that are on the site, give those a try to see. I am not a fan of meat in a crock pot usually, so I have to get over that fear on a lot of them. Smiling

Saving Dinner, Modified

Vonnie's picture

That's how I use the book, Tiff. I actually checked it out from our local library and I had tabbed so many recipes to try, I ended up buying it at BAM (I have a discount card, so it was a little cheaper). I do not go by the weekly plan; I am not structured enough for that! I actually have Chicken Parmesan in the oven right now. I made Great Greek Pasta and Country Fried steak last week. If you can win it, I would say go for it. Most recipes use things I always have on hand, or should have on hand. So, it was well worth it to me.

Well, gotta run. Hope y'all have a great evening.

Vonnie

Hi all!

Andrea's picture

Gotta get that book! Hmmm, maybe Thursday! Here's an easy non-recipe I did tonite: 1 jar of Major Gray's Chutney (in the Indian/ethnic food section and 1 packet of onion soup mix (dry) - mix and pour over chicken pieces - bake. Yum!!

Isn't that fun Anne? I'm just at that point with my DD6 - doing phonics program with her on the puter - Funnix.

Good job Jo! There are some great buys on rugs - don't know what stores you have, but if you hit a big carpet/flooring shop they have BIG remnants really cheap bound even.

Did the science museum with kids and DS's friend today - he slept over last nite, fun but exhausting.

I'm off to bed -
Andrea

Hi guys

jamielea's picture

That recipe sounds good Andrea, I might look next time I'm at the grocery store, see if I can find the ingredients.
We also done the Museum thing today, went to the Whitte, lots of fun. Trey seemed to enjoy it, Savannah was not so impressed. Laughing out loud

I think next week I'm going to buy Zoo passes. DH wants Sea World passes so I might do that to. Have to see what the check book looks like.

Anyway...

Two Impossible Mornings in a Row!

Vonnie's picture

DD was up at 5 a.m. yesterday & same today! Makes my mornings less than stellar. No quiet time before she gets up & a constant stream of chatter when I am not "up" for it.

Well, we think that we're actually going to pay off ALL of our credit cards! That will be so freeing for us. It will leave only house payment, one car payment, insurance, retirement account loan payment, food, gas & utilities! And now that I have most everything set up to pay with online banking, it should be a breeze!

I guess I'd better run. I'll try to pop back in before I leave for work and post my PODA.

Vonnie

Wow! Great News Vonnie!

It's snowing like mad here, and they didn't say anything about snow on the forecast. We must have at least 2 new inches out there and it's still coming down.

Hi, everybody!

Susannah's picture

I skimmed through to catch up with y'all but don't have much posting time. Today's a busy day fixing supper for my mom and us, getting Anna Kate's biography fair project ready, and basically Round-Robining the whole house. We're supposed to have homegroup tonight but three of mine are down with the croup and I've got something weird going on in my throat. Mom's gallbladder surgery went well yesterday and I spent the day going back & forth to Hartwell FOUR TIMES! Baby's croup seemed worse, so I had to take her to the Dr. there in town, in between keeping up with Mom. I met our new pediatrician and I really like her. She spoke at my former pediatrician's funeral; they were good friends and, she told me, similar in practice style. She's going to move to my old pediatrician's building, right here in town! I told her I was delighted to hear it and she seemed relieved. She was afraid people might think it was "weird."

Anyway, took Mom home last night, on the last trip to Hartwell. I'm about out of gas, but Praise the Lord I have just enough left in my bank account to get me where I need to go until payday. By keeping things barebones, I had just enough $$ to cover all our needs this month! Whew! Even Anna Kate's standardized test (that's coming in April). By raiding my piggy bank, I was able to buy the components of her pilgrim outfit at various thrift stores. Spotted a couple of $3 handbags I'm going back for on Saturday, once I'm flush again.

Anyway, I have to take Mom to see the surgeon tomorrow, since she can't drive till after she sees him and her car is in the shop anyway. It will mesh well with P.E., though. I have friends there who will watch the girls for me while I get Mom to the doctor. Then we can go pick her up afterwards.

You can see how hare-brained I am today by the disorganized jumble that is this post. So, I'd better get to it and start checking off that checklist! I just wanted to come online to get my blog fix. Spotted on The Corner: "It's 5 p.m. EST; Do you know where your day has gone?" by K-Lo. I don't know why, that made me laugh so hard! After four trips to Hartwell, I guess.

Love y'all!

Susannah

Hi guys

jamielea's picture

Way to go on the re-fi Vonnie, I'm sure that's a good feeling!

Jo, we've got Sea World and Six Flags all within 15 min. of the house. One of the reasons I love San Antonio. So much to do.

Anne, you said you guys were coming in August? Is that right? We've definatly gotta do lunch or something. Jana's close enough, maybe she could come down as well. Regular ol' flybaby fest Smiling

Hi everyone! Just poking my head in - I'm doing a swap with a friend today - I get rid of one boy and add one girl - works well. So just doing a bit of this and that cleaning wise today - after lunch hope to sort thru my scrapping stuff FINALLY. Also found a table I like online, I may order it.

Vonnie, that must feel so great - I hope it works out for you!

SusanY's picture

It's Wednesday and the week is flying by. DS informed me last night that he needs to be a buffalo indian dancer for boyscouts Friday night. So, I was off to Walmart this morning. I found brown fleece and brown faux fur for the headress. I'm using styrofoam cones (covering with black felt) for the horns. I'm hopeful it will come together. He also needed a palace guard costume for a simulator united nations program the weekend of March 12. I am renting 4 busby hats and having the boys buy red shirts and black pants. I will be embelishing with buttons and a wide black belt.

off to the sewing machine,
Susan

guess I should be thankful

julhome's picture

that when I wake up myself before 5:00, I'm the only one here and I can take my time about getting up slowly and quietly. I am, however, really looking forward to my borrowed little boys this summer, since I get to play mom twice a week. I think they sleep till at least 8:00, though, so that's lucky.

Susannnah--I'm in the same place right now with the $$. Trying to figure out where the rest of the rent is going to come from--yikes! My stepmother gave me a $25 gift card for the grocery store. I'm using it for emergency milk, bread, cereal runs. Thankfully I have enough butter and sugar for about three more weeks.

Routines are slowly getting back in place. Things should really come together this weekend. I really need to figure out the best time and plan for a weekly blessing.

Off to the bubble bath!

Sleep tight,
Jul

Roomba!

Shaun's picture

did I mention we got the Roomba (aka robot vaccuum cleaner, a little disc that travels around your house vaccuuming)?

It is sooo awesome! You do have to pick up the floor for it to work, which is great because now we have nothing on our floors. It is wonderful for the kitchen and dining room -- we run it almost every night while the kids get ready for bed. No more crumbs on bare feet in the morning!

That's my cleaning news. But I was chatting with a friend over coffee today, and she was telling me she is a big Flylady fan. She has empty drawers and half-full closets now!

I told her about my big realization: I was fantasizing (again) about winning the Powerball and what I would do with my millions. I realized that I would get rid of most of my clothes and have just a few nice things. Why? Because I would feel secure that I could go out and get more if I needed to.

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding! Lightbulb moment!

I *never ever ever* would have seen myself as a hoarder, or someone who holds onto stuff to feel secure, but somehow during my daydreaming something clicked. It just didn't make sense -- if I would feel happier with less as a "rich" person, wouldn't I feel happier with less as I am right now? I feel ready to start letting go of more stuff. I *can* get more if I need to, even if I am not a millionaire.

OK, enough rambling! Iris didn't nap *again* today and I still have 1/2 of my freelance work for today to finish.

Hi to everyone -- I am reading your posts carefully to see what is going on, but no individual posts tonight.

I'm here. Just tired.

Hi Flyfriends!!

Tigerlilly's picture

I am a loser flyfriend Smiling Sorry I have been missing in action. I posted once and then disappeared again. Its been one long month. My laptop blew up and I was computerless for about a week. Got a great new desktop that I love. Finally got that all set up. Then my Nanny got really sick with pneumonia and she fought so hard for 2 weeks. She passed away on Tuesday and I miss her so much already. She really suffered and we all are relieved she is at peace. And then of course there is the light of my life Alexa keeping me busy. She crawls now so she is EVERYWHERE. She pulls herself up to stand on anything, including on Tiger. She is so spirited and is so attached to me. We love her to death and each day is a new adventure. I thought laid back Mommy and Daddy= laid back baby. Yeah right!!!!!!!!!! Motherhood has definitely taught me one thing- whatever I believe is true is not!!!!! OK enough of us, I tried to skim really fast and everyone sounds good. I hope everyone with school kids is enjoying their week off. Big hugs and I missed you guys so much!!! I have written posts to you guys everyday in my head but starting today I am going to be here more no matter waht. I need you guys.

OK not much flying going on here. My house looks like Romper room. I have been keeping up with laundry and dishes. I lost 8 pounds on weight watchers and have been cooking a lot. Except this week with my stress eating I have had a Big Mac, Checkers, Taco bell. Fast food is my comfort food when I am upset. Starting today I am getting back on track. Ok fussypants is jumping out of her stroller when she should be drinking her baba... DH is working the next 3 days, Nannys wake and funeral are Sunday and Monday. Someone please give me strenth and patience.... Smiling Big hugs JAckie and Alexa

Oh heres a link to Alexa's website I finally updated
http://www.babysites.com/sites/alexachristina/
Hope it works...

Jackie

Susannah's picture

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Please accept my condolences. I know you'll miss her, but I know what you mean about being relieved the suffering is over. ((((Hugs))))

Roomba sounds like so much fun! I read another testimonial from someone who got one and loved it. But it would never work in our house. LOL! Floors are never clear for more than five minutes.

Jules, your little home sounds so nice and cozy. Wish I could have tea with you there. I'm glad you get to borrow kids this summer!

Five out of seven of us have this virus now. J.D. is still croupy, the rest are running their course. And somehow I have to get a) Anna Kate's biography fair project done and b) my mother to see her surgeon today. So I really shouldn't be here, I need to be off and running. Slept in late as usual, but I think I needed it today.

We had the most beautiful spring day on Monday, but now it's gone back to raining again. I actually saw a flowering tree on one of my trips to Hartwell. Sigh. "There's just somethin' 'bout the Southland in the springtime." Pretty soon the dogwood and azaleas will be in full glory.

Love y'all!

DD6 was all dressed up, etc. Plus, after shopping at 3 more furniture stores - no table that I like!! Aaaargh. I've looked online but the shipping is so much. I am just too picky I guess. Tired now after all that.

Spring won't hit here for a long time either Jo - can't be too soon for me!

Bye!

Now I'm Worried!

Vonnie's picture

Well, after not hearing from the mortgage company, I called them this afternoon, after receiving a packet of disclosure forms for my information. I told our rep that I got a package of info & she said "Oh, that's garbage." Let me talk to "x"; hold on. Well, X wasn't at her desk, so she said she'd talk to her and call me back. That was 50 minutes ago & stillno call. I am very worried. I keep thinking that it is probably just a paperwork error or why would they have changed our homeowners insurance over and everything? Lord, I pray it's not a "no go". I was really depending on this to get out of the black hole. Now I've got to take DD to her swim lessons. I guess they'll call me back on my cell anyway. Please say a little prayer for this situation! Thanks!

Vonnie

Heidi- Gosh you were produ

Andrea's picture

Heidi-

Gosh you were productive, unlike me! We are looking for a small kitchen table - 30 X 48 or 36 X 48 - contemporary style - I'm picturing some combination of wood, glass, or steel. We like cushioned chairs. We are pretty set on what we want and I"m finding it difficult. I think the problem is the small size - I like many that are larger. OUr nook really can't fit anything bigger though.

Prayer said Vonnie!

Off to bathe the dog so I can say I did at least something today!

Andrea

Just Curious

Tiff's picture

I know that PODA stands for parade of daily adventures (thanks to flylady's site list), but what does TADA stand for. Obviously it's what you have finished. I just wondered what words are hidden in it.
I did finally join and I must say that I rather enjoy all the email reminders. Throughout the day I check my email and feel like I'm not the only person in the world cleaning. Not that I don't enjoy cleaning (I really, really do), but I do tend to feel lonely and unappreciated keeping house. Plus, it's nice to know that I am not the only one who gets behind on laundry. Please do tell about TADA! Thanks, Tiffany

Any TADA ideas?

Shaun's picture

I'm not sure TADA does have words attached to it, but maybe we should make some up. I'm still a big fan of the SLUG list (was that Still Left Undone Garbage?)

Jackie, so sorry about your Nanny! Hope you can take some time to remember her. The good thing about Grandmothers, I've found, is that they are always with you somehow in spirit.

Vonnie, update us soon on what happened! I do hope everything is OK.

Thanks to Roomba I actually wet mopped the floors today! Otherwise I am just working working working for a deadline and taking care of a sick kid. (Does Iris just get every cold that goes through town or what?)

Shaun

absolutely!

julhome's picture

Yes, Shaun--the main reason I keep old stuff is because I never know when I might be even POORER than I am today. Who knows? Maybe this half-beat-up purse will be the only purse I have and I can't afford another one??!!??!! Yes, I must keep these miscellaneous tid bits that could be transformed into some kind of decorative basket that I can put cookies into in case I need to give a gift and I have no money at all!!??!! Sheesh.

Sorry about your Gma, Jackie. I know I never appreciate mine as much as I should--you've reminded me to soften up a little. Glad DD is such a bright spot for you.

Yes, Andrea, I will get paid for playing Mom. I'm not sure how much--we haven't talked about it. I'm guessing maybe $25 a day. I have no idea what goes in this area. Especially when you factor in part-time at my house, part-time at their house, in the nursery for 2.5 hrs. Thursdays...plus I think Debbie would probably throw in a few extra bucks if I did some laundry and some sweeping and threw something in the crockpot for them. I might as well, since I'll be there anyway. Hey--you hold out on your table--don't settle or you'll regret it.

I'd LOVE to have you for tea, Susie!

We have snow here, too, Jo. We do get the occasional spring-feeling day, but they never last. I never noticed before that you are in choir. Must be such fun. I'll never be good enough for that! Ya got me all green again, gal!

No more word from Vonnie? Hopefully X was just in a long meeting.

Tomorrow's PODA: Work, Curves, friend bringing GS cookies, hopefully organize for some heavy duty Saturday work. Yeah, right.

Ready for my cereal--night everybody!

No Word

Vonnie's picture

The *^$#@@ never called me back! I am not at all impressed with these folks. But since we've already spent $400 for an appraisal, I'm not ready to back out now. As soon as the last paper is signed, though, (assuming there is not a problem & we are in fact getting the refinance) I am letting them know how I feel about their service.

Probably won't be sleeping much tonight.

Went to a dyslexia simulation at a local high school last night...very educational and very frustrating. There were 6 stations set up to make you do things the way it is for a person with dyslexia to do. Each thing was very difficult to accomplish and really sensitized you to how dyslexics must feel.

I hope to work with PTA to bring the program to our school,we'll see...

DS has a pool party tomorrow(indoor of course) so we must get a gift certificate for that. Probably can pick it up on the way tomorrow...sorry thinking out loud here.

Better get at it.

Heidi

It's Friday again!

julhome's picture

Heidi, that simulation sounds fascinating. I'll bet they could do one for ADD, too--maybe with some kind of virtual reality hood, so that your attention gets diverted against your will? What do I know...

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ANNE! Have a great day. Doncha have to chill that pumpkin roll before you cut it? Then again, maybe you work faster than I do. I hope it works out ok for your get-together.

Already posted my PODA last night--I'll add one more thing:
Figure out how to have it all!
(Inspired by Ray Ramano's book title "Everything and a Kite", which I repeat audibly on a regular basis.)

No, not morning sickness or anything like that. My mom is here, as well as grandmother and stepfather. Just having fun visiting. Ya'll have a good weekend! My company leaves Monday, so I'll be back around then.

Good Morning Flyfriends!!

Tigerlilly's picture

Thanks so much for all of your well wishes about my Nanny. I can't believe how much I miss her already. We were going through some pictures and had some great memories to laugh about. It feels good because watching her the last two weeks that has been what is stuck in my mind. Last night instead of dreaming about her being sick I dreamt about when we went to Rye beach when I was 12 years old and she went on the rides with us. She was a cool Nanny.

Alexa has been giving me a run for my money as a momma the past three days but we are doing OK. I think she senses me being upset. This kid is so attached to me it overwhelms me. Its like my heart outside my body Smiling

Anne, thanks for checking out our pictures. She does look so different with her earrings. I am so gald I did it finally.

Jenny, did I miss some really important news???????????? Are you pregnant?? I hope to join you really soon, hopefully by the summer... If I can convince DH sooner I would love it!!!!

Happy Anniversary to you Anne!!! I hope you have a love filled day Smiling
Big hugs to everyone else!!

~cleaned out my underwear and sock drawer. I think we're in the Bedroom zone right???

~PUT AWAY THE FLIPPIN LAUNDRY ALREADY
OK that's it. You girls have a great Friday. Love Jackie

Happy Anniversary Anne!

Shaun's picture

Quick flyby for me too.

Jackie, I think I have 4 laundry baskets filled with clean laundry! I don't know why I can't get it put away! (Well, I can think of 2 little reasons named Sophie and Iris . . .) And you are a brave lady thinking of jumping back in to babies so soon!

Mostly freelancing today, plus putting at least one basket of laundry away so I have a basket for the kitchen linens currently in the washer (gotta wash before they totally mildew! -- gross!)

Hoping to get lots of freelance work done today so I can have a night with DH -- been working nights a lot this week. We will either watch I Heart Huckabees or Vanity Fair -- thanks Netflix! Anybody seen either movie?

Happy Friday to all!

Bummer Becky!

Haven't seen either Shaun, but let us know how they are. I heart Huckabees is on my to rent list.

I found my table!! Yay! I just ordered it online from furnitureontheweb.com. Exactly what I wanted - I was ready to settle for something else at Target.com - but then Anne said not to! So I took her advice and googled it again, VERY specifically, and this came up. I've been looking online for at least a week, so was very surprised. I'll try to link it.

Cool! It Says [New]!

Vonnie's picture

I like the [New} designation at the begining of new entries! Neatto, Lynn!!

Well, the re-fi mystery is solved! At 10 a.m., I STILL had not heard from the company (even after my scathing message on her voice mail!). So, DH called. The lady acted oh-so-nonchalant about it. No, there's no problem with the loan; it was an error on the paperwork calculations. We are set to close at 5:30 p.m. Monday. We're not getting as much as we thought because of closing costs, but we will be able to pay off all but a portion of one credit card. Depending on how much OT DH gets, we could pay it off in 3-6 months. House payment is a little less than we thought, too. I think our first will be due May 1, so that will give us 2 months house payment to save as well. We still want to (1) re-cover sofa (2) lay down hardwood laminate floor (3) put down new linoleum in bathroom and then we'll have to save to put a brick footing around our house and rebuild our shed. So, it all turned out OK. I've been working on our budget tonight.

Well, DD is spending the night with a friend -- her first overnighter with someone other than a grandparent!!! Mom is missing her so much. It was not planned until this afternoon & my MOm picked her up at school, so I only spent about 2 hours with her. But, DH is really sick with what looks like the stomach flu, so it is good that she's not here. I am having a Gilmore Girls fest with my Netflix deliveries today while DH laments in bed. I'm about to pop some popcorn.

Hopefully, DH will be better tomorrow; DD wants to practice for t-ball/softball.

Well, I am so tired and Gilmore Girls is running, so I'll not take time to post my TADAs. I hope everyone has a great evening!

Hi Flyfriends!!

Tigerlilly's picture

Good morning!! Hope everyone is having a fun Saturday. We have no plans today, DH is working 9-7pm. I am going to rest up for the next two days.
I have a non flybaby problem maybe all the experienced Mommas can help me with. Alexa is so so so attached to me. I love it, but when I can't even leave the room to pee it is getting a little rough. I do play with her a lot, I am with her most days all day by myself except Mon and Friday for a few hours. She cried for 2 hours on Monday at my Moms until Dh came to get her. My Mom is so patient, but DMil takes it so personally. She cried for about an hour on Tues when I ran dropped her off suddenly when my Nanny left us. She just doesn't go with the flow. I understand this is her temperment(sp?) but I also think as her mother I need to teach her to be independent. Is she too little for that? She is teething but I ahve been saying that for like forever and we only have the bottom two teeth. I leave her in the pack and play to do chores around the house but she cries the whole time usually. She wont take a pacifier, I am trying to get her to take to a pooh bear and a blanket. I put the blanket in my bra to get my smell on it Smiling I think I am going nuts!!!!!!! Sorry this is so long but I want to do the right thing both for her and for my sanity. Maybe she will grow out of it- she is 9 months and that is the peak of separation anxiety. I love her to death but when she is hanging on my ankles and holding on for dear life I think she is getting a little too attached Smiling thanks in advance for your help and sorry so off topic

Shaun, I hope you enjoyed your movie. I watched Raising Helen the other day. It took about 4 hours of pausing and playing but it was really cute when I finally got to the end Smiling

Becky, I know what you mean with computer problems. I just got this computer and now our wireless network is all screwed up. AGGGHHH...... Good luck with it!!
Andrea I love the table!! I am glad you waited to find what you wanted. I love shopping online and finding exactly what I visionedinstead of aimlessly roaming around the store settling for something else.
Jana, I hope you are feeling better today Smiling
Anne, Im glad your day was good yesterday. Your pumpkin cream cheese roll is making me hungry.
Hi everyone else!!!
Heres a quick Poda and Tada mix:
~cleaned kitchen
~fed Alexa breakfast
~ALexa down for her am nap
~1 load laundry in washer
~I finally put away 2 baskets of laundry from Thurs WOOOHOO!!
~packed away Alexa 3-6 months clothes Sad
~cleaned out 2 drawers in my dresser
~make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner
~lay out clothes for tomorrow for Alexa and I and pick up DH's suit
OK sorry so long. HAve a great day Love Jackie

Quick comment on separation

Shaun's picture

My DD5 (almost 6!) went through bouts of severe separation anxiety -- crying for hours with anyone but me or dad (and sometimes just me), especially around 9 mos. and 18 mos. IMHO, yes, it is too early at 9 mos. to worry about "teaching" independence. At that age I think you foster independence by showing your kids that you will be there when they need you. At 9 mos., they need you a lot. At 6 years, or even 18 mos., "need" is a little different.

My method was basically to scale way back and say, I guess she needs more time with me for a couple of months. I will say that she is now incredibly independent and has been at least since the age of 2 (and in the months in between her real SA problems). Sent her off to preschool and kindergarten with nary a tear (on her part)! From my perspective and that of her teachers and extended family, she's one of the most independent 5-year-olds they know (and that's been true since about age 2 also).

I'm not saying that's because of something I did, I think that's her inborn personality. But I do think it helped to say "hey, she needs a little reassurance right now for some reason" every once in a while.

Number one thing: Take time for yourself!! Trying to give Alexa more time (if you do that) does not mean giving her all the time she asks for. If there are things that must be done, or mommy needs a sanity break, do them! Are you getting out with other grown ups on a regular basis, with and without Alexa? Can you go have coffee at a friends or arrange a playdate with other moms so that you can have adult conversation and she can be with you? That helps soooo much.

I know this never sinks in until it is too late, but -- they are only babies for a short time and before you know it they would rather play with their friends most of the time. Knowing Iris is my last child has really helped me to put up with extended bouts in the rocking chair, carrying her around a lot (she rarely touched the ground before 6 months!), and all the rest, because I see my 5-year-old, who was just a baby yesterday!, off and running.

Hang in there -- this is a tough time to be a mommy for sure! You'll make it!

Saturday nite

Andrea's picture

Wow Anne, glad you got to sleep in! Sounds nice!

Jackie, Shaun's advice is really good and I would second all of it. I think that most of us with older kiddos (mine are 6 and Cool look back fondly on those times and don't regret any of the time spent on giving your baby what she needs. They are some of my best memories - still very vivid now for me and important in my bonding with my kids. I think there is a lot to be said for routines and consistency and I don't think there's anything wrong with letting your child cry for a bit, but to expect a child to learn "independence" at 1 or 2 or even 3 doesn't make any sense - they're babies! They can learn that later...like Lynn says - my advice and $3.50 will buy you a double latte!

Jo, didn't realize your boys were so close in age - mine are 23 months apart. Did you do the hotel?

Vonnie,m let us know how the over nite went? My DS8 has done several with no problems, DD6 has yet to do one.

Well, we were busy today with dance, DD's playmate here, DS going to another friend's house. DS and DH also went for a hike and out for lunch. church tomorrow (we are trying a new church after many years at another one in town) and then I really want to finish my book!

Have a good nite everyone -
Andrea

Good Evening My Cyber-Friends!

Vonnie's picture

Andrea, the sleepover went well. DD behaved very well and went to bed with no problem. Didn't cry for us (at all?). Stayed with them until 3 p.m. A little too long for me! I was ready to see her and hug her! She went to the grocery store with me and then we came home & fixed sloppy joes and fries for dinner. DH is still feeling icky, so he didn't eat anything. DD is in the tub now -- Saturday night bath!! -- I'll have to run get her out in a jiffy. Gonna rock her and read a new book "It's Hard to Be Five" by Jamie Lee Curtis. Really fits DD to a "tee".

Got lots of household changes going on here this week. DD starts t-ball practice Tuesday. We are abandoning our cable TV in favor of Direct TV (to be installed tomorrow afternoon!) and are leaving the cable company's DSL in favor of Bellsouth DSL. We'll save about $300 in 12 months, so I feel it is justified and worth it. We won't see any reduction in television channels we watch & will actually gain several kiddie channels, including Disney. Will have to monitor DD's TV time & not let her become a junkie! LOL!

After I get DD to sleep, I guess I'll put in my next Netflix movie, "13 Going on 30". I've heard it's really good.

OK, I have a few TADAs today:

* Went shopping for myself (yup, you read that right!) and got two pair of pants that FIT (down to the next lower size!), and four tops. Also found a darling purple purse -- I LOVE bold, different handbags!
* Got DD's Easter dress at TJ Maxx -- so pretty!
* Did laundry & have it fairly caught up
* Got grocery shopping done & got some great buys on meats at a meat market here
* Fed dogs & brought in DD's t-ball equipment and covered bikes (rain in forecast for tomorrow)
* Got dinner cooked & ate and cleaned up kitchen
* Unloaded dishwasher
* Picked out DD's and my clothes for church tomorrow

Still to go, PODA:

* Read story & get DD to sleep
* Watch movie
* Get my Bible, etc. together
* Write out check to church
* Go to bed at a decent hour (don't know if I'll sleep in bed with DH or not; didn't last night because I didn't want to get sick)

I hope you all have a great evening. It is so nice to be able to come here & be real about what I get done & what I fail at! I never feel judged or looked down upon. Y'all are the best!

Can You Say Oops?

witchiepoo's picture

I didn't expect to have two so close together, but it worked out really well. They are buddies. Of course, I didn't expect DD 10 years after DS14 either! Laughing out loud I am NOT the master of family planning...

Obviously, we didn't do the hotel thing. I forgot DS14 has to work tomorrow (He was hired by the restraunt/catering service he worked for last weekend owned by my sis and BIL) He works brunch carving meat and then does dishes after. He is thrilled with the paycheck! Smiling And DS12 has a moonlight snowshoeing trip tomorrow night. His scout troop MADE snowshoes. How cool is that? Tomorrow night they are going on a hike from 6-10pm. We have school vacation unitl Wednesday because of Town Meeting Day, so it is a good time for it.

I didn't get much done today. DD was quite demanding, and I just gave her undivided attention. The mess will still be there tommorrow! Smiling And then the MIL showed up to talk at me for over an hour....then I needed a big glass of wine. Sigh.

Well, I can let the cat out of the bag to you ladies. I officially quit my job! They are not making it public until Friday, but I know you all will not tell! Smiling I can't even say how thrilled I am to think about being home (sort of) and homeschooling DD and maybe even DS12. I gave him the choice and he hasn't decided yet, but is leaning toward homeschooling, so we shall see.

I will be bookkeeper/office manager for DH's business, which will be open for business (after the fire) on April 10th. I will have to spend quite a bit of time there, but it is a 2 minute walk from my house and DD can go with me, so again it will not be working away from my kids. DS has said one reason he wants to homeschool is because he can work at the shop. Nothing like family togetherness! Smiling I will lose my 90 minute a day commute and the crazy morning rush. I can't wait! Instead of leaving my house at 6:45am to be at work at 7:30, I will leave at 8:55 to walk to work by 9:00. I can leave work at 4 and be home by 4:05! Woo-hoo!!!!!!

OK, enough off-topic gloating...

I am soooo happy for you! I enjoy working part-time and from my home, but if we adopt a little boy in the future, I want to stay home full-time. I can juggle right now, but there's not enough of me to go around for two and a part-time job.

Congrats again!!!

Good Evening!

Glad that you are doing what you really want,Jo. That is such a good feeling. Best to you and your family with the new arrangement.

Andrea- how many days til your table arrives? Saw the picture,it looks nice. My kids haven't done sleepovers yet except at family so that will be a new territory soon enough.

Jenny-hope your company had a pleasant visit

Jackie-if the crying bugs you when you are trying to get things done around the house, perhaps a baby sling might do the trick?? My DS was a high need baby while DD could care less if anyone was in or out of a room with her. They are are all different, just parent the way that works for you and her.

Better go read with DS,who by the way initiated tonight's reading( a big one for someone who struggles so hard with words)

G'night!

Hi all-

Congrats Jo! I think that lifestyle will work well for you - good luck with it! A new chapter in your life...

Heidi, I hope the table comes soon! They said 10 days I think. Our new floor is still not in - that will come in 1 or 2 weeks too - so we still have a bit of a wait! I don't think DH Is on because of the Oscars... I did see Terri Hatcher on Barbara Walters though.

Back to work and school for us tomorrow - I think we're ready!

I got that book for my DD5 too! She did not really want to read it with me at first but she read it several times by herself. Very cute, and she totally got the "Control Panel" thing.

So much happening in your family lately Jo. You are really a rock! I'm so glad to see how well things are turning out for you after all the stresses you have had lately.

House is looking a little unloved -- probably will until this next weekend too, as I have a deadline that I have barely been pecking at that I now have to meet come what may.

Looking forward to a new week with yall!
