Niece struck by car

The details are sketchy, my brother doesn't have the police report yet, but it looks like my niece stepped out in front of a car on her way home from school today.
She has a broken leg which will require surgery, a fractured skull that the doctors don't think is too serious (please, God, let it be so), and some bad bruises and abrasions--her shoulder is supposed to be badly scraped up. She's in a hospital in San Diego where she lives with my brother and his wife.
So, if you have a prayer list, please add HIllary to it for the next few weeks.
Thank you.

Oh Hata!
I'm so sorry! You must be going crazy with worry.
If you need to leave Annora with us for some reason (I can't think of why, but if there's something you need to do), please remember I'm here.

I've had better days.
I'm trying really hard not to freak out, but I'm very worried. I got an email from my aunt who also lives in San Diego that Hillary is in the Surgical ICU and that they were going to do surgery on her leg after they'd done four CT scans of it and something about bleeding from a hairline skull fracture. Two CT scans were done by 6:00 am today, I don't know any more than that.
She's fifteen years old.
Thank you so much, everyone for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.
Looks like she's going to be alright
My brother called me tonight to tell me that the surgery went well and that the doctors think she's going to be fine. It was a clean break so they put a steel rod in her leg to brace the bone (it was her femur) and they're going to leave it in there. It's apparently better than a cast, but it's permanent.
After close observation the doctors decided that her head injury is not serious, thank the Dear Sweet Lord, and don't expect any complications or lasting effects from it. I worked for a time for a company that provided services to people with disabilities and I know what traumatic head injuries can do. This doesn't appear to be one, for which I will always be profoundly thankful.
She's been responsive and joking with her parents. My brother and her stepmother have been gently teasing her about it. At one point Hillary tried to lift up a pillow to whack my brother with it, which is a good sign, I think.
She'll start physical therapy tommorrow and won't be able to go to school for a couple of weeks, but children's bones are supposed to be quick to heal, she should be able to bear weight on it in about two weeks.
My brother still doesn't have the police report but as near as he can tell, she was running across the road from one curb to another and a car came around the corner and clipped her. It was the impact of the fall that broke her bones. Goodness, I hated typing that last bit.
So please keep Hillary's health and speedy recovery in your prayers for a bit. I won't be easy about this until she's conspicuously out of the woods, but my brother said the doctors are convinced that she's going to be fine.
And that's what I know right now.

Oh good
that sounds like a good first step. If she's able to take on her brother it sounds like you don't need to worry about her head being damaged!
But I think I know what you mean... still kind of holding your breath!
Kerri.
How is your niece, now?
I was just lurking and had to post my question...

CariAnne <~~~ Slinking away, now.
Listen to the MUSTN'Ts, child,
Listen to the DON'Ts,
Listen to the SHOULDN'Ts, the IMPOSSIBLEs, the WON'Ts
Listen to the NEVER HAVEs,

Haven't heard anything since Saturday,
But she was supposed to go home yesterday. She's expected to make a full recovery and be able to go back to school in two weeks or so.
Thanks for asking!
