Sucker for Kids Shenanigins

It began all over again yesterday on the way home from the dentist office. Up til then everything was fine. We always have breakfast after the appointments and then back to school.

He (DS12) wolfed down his breakfast like he hadn't had a meal in a week. A Big Breakfast it was. . .bacon, eggs, bisquit, hashbrowns, but minus the gravy. Boy,was it ever good if the look on his face was anything to go by.

Halfway home the pain hit him. Head lolled back on the seat, a small groan or two, one hand on his belly, the other on his head. "Does your head hurt?", I asked. "No", he said, "but I think I may hurl". "Well", I said, Don't be puking in my car. If you have to, see that styrofoam cup in the floor? Use it until I get stopped." He's a pro and I'd already read the writing on the wall, but played along anyway.

There were a few more groans and moans, but no regurgitation, and no more sympathy forthcoming, so when I had to make a stop he visibly wavered between going in with me or playing the sick trick all the way through.

Nosiness won out and he accompanied me inside, but he wasn't done. Nosirree. Quickly calculating arrival time at school, which classes were left, etc. his tack changed. "I'll only be missing 2 classes Mom. I'm not behind in them, my grades are good". . . blah, blah, blah. . . on and on and on. Finally, he didn't see it working so out came the "You are so mean. Everybody elses Moms let them stay out all day when they go to the dentist. I don't know why I have to have the only mean parents.

I thought about it and decided missing 2 classes wasn't going to decide whether or not he passed, so I called the school and told them I wouldn't be bringing him in at all that day. I hung up the phone and he said "Mom, Thanks! You're the best Mom in the whole world." After chewing him out for the trick playing and a talk about lying, honesty and homework and all that stuff, I settled back and enjoyed my new status as the best mom in the world. But let me tell you, traveling the path from the meanest to the best wasn't easy.

Oh Fern, that is too funny. I will be there with my DS in four years, hard to believe!
