Elizabeth Edwards Chemo Cap Challenge

Lynn's picture

Over at my knitting site, I've posted the page for the Elizabeth Edwards Chemo Cap Challenge, including free patterns for chemo caps. Anhata's been busily knitting one, and I've finished one and am nearly done with a second.

If you're outside the Portland area there's a link to a site with ideas on where to donate the caps; I'd love it if you would note in your donation that they're a part of this Challenge, and let me know you've done it. I'd like to keep track of how many hats get made for this, and I think it'd boost Elizabeth's spirits to know, too. Remember, she is a TNHer! Smiling

I'd love to help out with the chemo-caps, but I cannot learn to knit!!! Or at least I can't teach myself. I've gone through two "learn how to knit" videos and I checked out a "knitting for dummies" type book from the library and I still don't have a clue! I need some one-on-one instruction, but I don't know anyone else who knits. I guess I should try to find a class in my area. Maybe at the beginning of the year...

Is anyone here self-taught? How did everyone else learn?

Mom plus video plus book plus internet, and I have the rudiments. It takes a while.

Somewhere out there is a lady who's probably about 50 years old named Kim who once upon a time lived in Santa Ana, California. She taught me to knit when she was 14 and I was 7, and I think of her all the time! But since that time everything else I know I taught myself. Find another knitter--go to a local yarn shop and ask them to teach you, if they have time they probably will show you the basic movements.

Hi all!! Would cute, decorated fleece hats be okay? Some of them are so, so cute!

As long as they're warm, soft and machine-washable it's all good. Watch your seaming; Anhata's link is a good one.

I've seen patterns for those

I think it was at www.headhuggers.com where they have knitted and sewn patterns for Chemo Caps.

learning to knit

Hi,
I taught myself to knit with a very simple how to knit book. I followed the directions and did it wrong, so I took it apart and tried again. I have no idea how many times I tore it out and tried again. It finally made sense and my hands would do what the book said. But, it is like How do you get to Carnagie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. Good luck, you can do it.
