Not really. But, at least I did get things in order for the week last night. I always feel better when I've checked my calendar, have my bag ready, etc.
Didn't get much done this weekend. Saturday DD and I spent the better part of the day running around shopping. It was fun. Got her some jeans for school (we're actually going to have highs below 80 later this week!) and a few cute turtlenecks for later. I am trying to keep her school clothes totally separate from her nicer clothes. Always a problem.
The doctor appointment went well on Friday. Cyst hasn't gotten bitter - woohoo!
TADAs last night & today:
* Checked calendar for the week
* Called my Mom to get funeral arrangements for great-uncle
* Filled in activities on November refrigerator calendar
* Painted my toenails (they've been bare for two weeks & it's still so hot I'm wearing sandals!)
* Filled out my prayer journal/list for this week
* Checked work calendar for today & made my to-do list
* Fed dog
* Put away grocery items DH bought last night & left all over my kitchen counters - thanks, DH!
* Checked Netflix queue and re-ordered a few items
* Big TADA: straightened DD's dresser; have a bag of outgrown stuff to pass to cousin; organized her closet
My PODA:
* Pick out clothes for DD and myself for funeral tomorrow
* Email work that I'll be out of pocket tomorrow afternoon for funeral
* Work at office a.m.; I need to have a quiet day today so I can get some things done
* Laundry
* Pay water bill
* Pay house payment
* Call children's director to discuss my class
Well, not much else today. We're scheduled to get rain tomorrow & Wednesday and then cooler temps. I am so glad. This ole' fat girl is ready to not sweat!
In the 1963 Amy Vanderbilt etiquette book, she wrote that men should always help with housework, because "any man with military training knows how to make good hospital corners" or something like that.
Vonnie, if you got clothes shopping done, you got plenty done!
Yep! The Desert is White! We had 2 weeks of fall, and the hugest(is that a word?) snowflakes, looks like someone left a million tissues in the washer and dryer coming out of the sky! Breathtaking!
My DH is home today. I hit a plateau Saturday of pain, apparently the adhesions in my tummy are healing correctly, if you have burning and pain, it is doing what it is supposed to do. So I am bed bound for a few days. But my DH is gonna be my fly in waiting!
PoDa
Mending basket~have one dress left to fix shredded area. (favorite dress, gives me a waist)
Write out Christmas card list.
Ponder what to write for "the Christmas letter"
Paint girls nails and mine.
Listen to DH replay every highlite from press conferences to his football team...but gosh he is so excited! They have been a losing team for all of our marraige, and he has been very faithful to them. I enjoy the game so it is fun to see his face beam!
Clean out makeup drawer in my dresser to use for clothes. DH can put on the bed.
Look up new menu ideas from allrecipes.com
Any other suggestions for cleaning or keeping busy while stuck in bed/recliner?
Becky~upon reading your post, I might have to pull out the ol' crochet hook!
Jo~I am really sorry about the fire...hope something good comes out of it for you guys. Hug your hubby, he must feel so just yuck!
Vonnie~I tried the nice clothes seperated thing...and those darn kids grow so fast, they wear the nice clothes once or twice. We now have a play clothes rack in the closet, for when I tell them put on play clothes (park or sanbox play) and the top stuff is for going in public The girls love putting on a pretty dress just because we are going to the post office. The boys will come out in a full suit for school and just beam at the attention they get all day. Lot less stressful
Karin~Yahoo to you! The bible says, where there is no oxen, there is no mess. My DH tells me that when I am mad at "his mess", he is sometimes an ox, but my ox! Ain't it wonderful having him home!!!!
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
Snow, I'm jealous Anne! It's a little cooler here this morning, we had rain last night.
Took Trey and Savannah trick or treating, well Savannah was just along for the ride Walked the block then climbed into the back of DH's truck and rode for a while. Tony and Anthony stayed home and handed out candy. I made up 50 bags with Halloween pencils, sharpener, spider ring, chocolate bar, gum, and tootsie rolls. Also had a huge bowl of candy if they ran out of bags. Well I told them when they were all out to turn the lights out, well guess what they did... They gave Trey's candy away while we were out in the truck I could of beat em'! They went up to HEB and bought what amounted to a BUTT load of tootsie rolls to replace what they gave away. Luckily we had stopped at a few houses while we were out in the truck so he got some variety. TEENAGERS!!
We've got Homeschool bowling league today, my back's still hurting but I'm going to try to take him anyway. I don't bowl so the hardest part will be getting the baby in and out of the van.
Anywhoo PODA
*downstairs is a disaster, clean that up
*homeschool bowling
*homeschool
*de-clutter in Savannah's closet
*Hummm? what zone are we in? Figure that out.
*@ least one load of laundry
first off, Jo, I'm so sorry about your hubby's business! What kind was it, I never knew what he did.
Karin, yeeehaaaww on hubby being home! I bet he didn't recognize the baby! I notice I can keep the house cleaner during hunting season. hmmmmm....
Anne, the snow is supposed to hit here tonight. I know it's beautiful, but I hope it doesn't. Snow is not helping us bale the hay. At least hold off until it's all baled (in a couple weeks).
Jamie, OMG, I can't believe they gave away Trey's candy!!
Had a great time last night! We trick or treated MY way (door to door) because dh couldn't go. (his way is driving only to close family and his parents friends. Lots of in and out of carseats). We just invaded a nice neighborhood in town, and it was a blast!
Cold today and tonight. My fire place is all cleaned out and ready for a roaring fire! Winds are blowing up to 50MPH today. yuck. Tongue is feeling some better. Good enough to eat a little candy, so I decided not to try to go to the dr. Today's plan:
study for a history test tomorrow,
maybe do some economics
and/or spanish.
and/or outline a chapter or two for am. govt.
laundry
make 4 pumpkin pies, batch of cornbread and biscuits to take the the church tomorrow for turkey dinner on Thursday
Jamielea, oh man! I would be sooooo mad, and my DD would have lost it. I admire your sense of humor and flexibility!
Karin, yay that DH is home! But I understand -- if my DH stays home for a few extra hours he is so *in my way*! It's awful but true. If he had been gone for a year I think I would really have a hard time adjusting, no matter how happy I was. I am *not* the most flexible person. (BTW, I think DH has started to figure out that the best way to guilt me into something is to accuse me of being inflexible. Sneaky one, he is!)
No TADAs so far today -- took DD5 to school, then DD1 to indoor gym. Now she's playing really nicely on the living room floor, which is giving me a great break on the computer. The last week has been sooooooo busy that I just can't bustle around right now. I'm tapped out!
PODA:
unload/reload DW
put away more laundry
defrost dinner sauce (I've been doing good with making double/triple batches)
mail invitations to Southern Living party
freelance work
An event I'm working on is having a planning event tonight, but I have just said, "oooh, I can't make it that night." I'm sure my friend would be mad if she knew that I can't make it because I am just sick of going going going all the time, but oh well! Gotta draw the line somewhere -- and the planning event is just overkill IMHO. If poring over the details makes other folks happy, fine, but I'm satisfied!
I did get a bit of drawer organizing done myself yesterday, Vonnie -- great minds think alike! We can never find any of those little baby socks, so I gave them their own special little box. Then I worked a phone bank for 3 hours and answered the door til a little after 8, when we ran out of candy! Going out door knocking tomorrow to get people to the polls -- be sure to get out and vote!! Our state had the best turnout in the nation 2 years ago, and we should be up at the top again, something I am quite proud of. I was absolutely astonished to see that several southern states had voter turnouts (just counting eligible voters) around 30%. Don't let that be you -- get your friends and neighbors to the polls!
Karin, please express to him my gratitude for his service. We are so proud of our military and their families!! They are doing an excellent job.
I'm so sorry to hear about the fire, Jo. I haven't scanned the old thread yet, but I will. I hope y'all are okay.
Not much done here today except for the homeschooling. Emma fell asleep on the floor right behind me just now, and I'm supposed to take her to the doctor in a few minutes to have her ears checked. It's just a precaution; she's been fussy and wakeful lately. I'm surprised she fell so soundly asleep, as she already had a mini-nap this morning.
Shaun, good for you skipping that unnecessary event. I'm proud of you!
I think I read that the turnout is supposed to be pretty high in GA this time around. It's already pretty settled for Bush, but there's a marriage amendment on the ballot and the Senate race is pretty close, or was the last time I got a call.
Just poking my head in briefly. what is a Southern Living party Shaun? Sounds fun. Good for you on the meeting. I'm not going to a cub scout leaders' meeting tonite either. So there.
Glad DH is home Karin, good luck with the adjustment.
Worked today so am pretty tired. No idea what's for dinner. Help!!! We can't have pizza again.

Jo-Oh! So sorry about the fire loss, what happened?
You all don't forget to vote tomorrow,it is gonna be a super close race for sure.
Gotta run...
Hi To Everyone, sorry not so many personal greetings, try later
PS What Happened on Desperate Housewives last night?? I fell asleep promptly at 9:15...Pathetic
I watched it for the first time last nite Heidi and really liked it! i'll leave it to the others to fill you in as I'm a newbie! Still trying to figure out the characters.
Today was one big SLUG, all I got done was Homeschool and Homeschool bowling league. I am making some homemade chicken noodle (and vegetable) soup for dinner, but the downstairs is still a mess. I promise to do better tomorrow.
Jo, I'm so sorry about your DH's business. I don't know how I missed that earlier, I guess skimming. I am truly sorry, keep us updated when you get a chance.
Jenny, e-mail me some pictures of your costume! You know I don't have the patience to wait for you to get them on the site!
Shaun, I do have a sense of humor I've decided to let Trey pour out the contents of his stocking 1st on Christmas morning, it'll be full of a variety of chocolate. Then for Tony and Anthony... tootsie rolls, a stocking slap full of em'
Way to go on skipping the event tonight, feels good to say no every once in a while.
Baby's getting fussy, see you guys in the morning.
Jamie Lea
Well for sitting most of day...got alot acomplished!
TaDa
DH went to walmart for 1/2 off candy. Kids gave most of theirs away last nite(and enjoyed every minute of it) He spent $10, we have some candy here folks...woo woo reeses, twixs, starburst, whoppers, whistlepops, candycorn, cookies and creme, we are set for a while.
DH swept and mopped Kit/Din/Entry Foyer! Smells devine!
DH vacumn whole house!
DH did dishes and cleaned kitchen(he cleans it like a gun, takes it all apart and scrubs!)
I emptied my mending basket.
Clear out one junk drawer.
Took a shower and got dressed!
I moved kids painted pumpkins to window sill. (Kelly's mission was to toss them, but they are too, too, cute, and will look lovely for a fall window dressing)
My doc said all is well, rest is what was needed, should be up and going slowly tomorrow.
Jamie~to be a SLUG, and homeschool, and homemade soup...you are doing awesome! Snuggle that baby!
Jenny? did the snow make it over there? I keep checking weatherbug and thinking about you, doesn't look good, hope they are wrong. we have a 70% chance of snow tonite, but it is real dry out, the wind is picking up. Snow was melted within an hour of the storm.
I early voted two weeks ago...but excited as usual about any election. Looking forward to the end, but love the process. Then Susannah can rest, and Lynn will be back :0
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
I'm going to try to get to the polls before they open at 7 (less than an hour away) so I can vote before things get hectic. Not only do I work this morning, but I have that funeral to attend at 2 p.m. I don't want to be there when everyone gets off work at 5. We've already been warned to bring our i.d., our umbrella and our patience because there are gonna be long lines.
So, my PODA:
* Go to voting place to vote
* Drop off water bill at City Hall
* Take DD to preschool
* Work at my office a.m.
* Quick lunch and change DD's clothes
* Funeral at 2 p.m.
* Laundry
So, I'm gonna go run and get dressed so I can leave by 6:45. Y'all go vote!! Let your voice be heard!!
I spend the whole summer looking for that lost hour!
Good morning all!
Please vote~it does my little heart good just to see America being Americans! It is our right, don't lose it! I do care how you vote, vote what you feel is right for America and your family.
I climb off the soap box.
PoDa

5. Dust my 3 shelf thingee on wall in front entry. Clean knick/knacks on it.
6. Nap, cause it is gonna be a late night with the elections.
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
It's 7:30 a.m. and I am back from voting! Would've been back at 7:15, but I detoured to grocery store next to voting place that had some meat on special.

I trust all those votes cast are well-informed, too.
I'll be going once DH gets off work. I'd like to take the big girls with me (civics, you know). Usually it's pretty quick and painless, but I'm hearing reports from all over our beloved country that turnout is unusually high. I'm addicted to the blogs today, especially The Corner at NRO. "It's like crack," readers there are saying. I must agree.
However,
TA DA:
*Homeschooled.
*Straightened up a bit and reloaded DW.
Still, I have a truckload of laundry to do, and playing around on the internet is not getting it done.
Well, just like election day 2000, New Mexico has been hit with snow. Its coming down pretty good right now, we have about an inch or so, but the roads are very wet and will be icy. I went to the polls at 8:00 when I took the girls to school. I was number 22 so far. Six people were there voting at the same time! With only about 260 registared here, that's alot. At 3:15, number 100 had voted. Also 88 had prevoted already, so that's a pretty darn good turnout!
Jamielea played a mean trick on me. Shame on you!!!
I'm doing nothing but staying inside by the fire watching too much tv. I've had classes all morning, a history test in one of them. Going to enjoy myself and watch Fox News!
Today's TADAs:
voted with both girls in tow
Target run
freelance work
4 hours of get-out-the-vote pavement pounding (no, not campaigning, just making sure people know where to vote and have a way to get there)
Reminded me of why I can never run for office -- for an introvert like me 4 hours of talking to people is like torture, and then I'm wasted for the rest of the day. I'm pounding caffeine so I can stay awake for my tap class, which I'm really gonna need as the precincts start reporting!
Hurray for all the voters! The more people who vote, the more truly representative our government really is.
Not sure what to do with the rest of the day, but these are likely:
order groceries
finish dinner (pasta bolognese -- my own veg recipe -- in the oven)
finish those darn Southern Living invitations
The party is basically what it sounds like -- Southern Living now has a home party company selling serving dishes, home decor, cookbooks and other books, etc. A woman from my church has a business, and I was curious about the stuff. Really I should not be doing it--I am not a social enough person to offer her a big audience. But oh well! Hopefully at least a couple of friends will come over and we'll have goodies and wine. She suckered me in by saying it's all about hospitality, which is one of my highest values.
Well, I'd better get back to the family. I'll be tipping back a beer later this evening -- we'd stopped buying wine and beer to make up for DH's impulsive purchase of SIMS 2, but I said yesterday, "You'd better go get some beer for the election, b/c whatever happens we'll want it!"
All my PODA with the exception of those dang papers. Tomorrow after I take DD to preschool,I am coming straight home and attacking them. Why do I put paper filing stuff off so long??
I waited about 45 minutes to vote and got my sticker. Too bad my schedule doesn't allow me to attend but the local movie theatre is giving away free popcorn and half price tickets if you wear your I voted today sticker. Oh Well....
DS started the Jason Project today. Anyone else have this going on at their school? From what I understand the kids study the Louisiana wetlands and come up with conservation ideas. It goes on once a week until spring Break. DS said that he thought it was"cool".
*mini blessing (kept getting sidetracked)
*took some things to the antique store to trade
*cleaned out a junk drawer
*one load laundry done
*homeschooled
*went threw Savannah's dresser, she's already out growing some things
*cleaned out my Hope chest
*played with Trey in the back yard (it's finally cold here!!) Yippie!
*leftover soup for dinner
*lots of other stuff I'm forgetting, I've got lots of nervous energy today due to the elections Sorry about that mean trick Jenny
Well, Karin, since you asked, I'll take the opportunity to whine. I enjoy my work, but I am just feeling really burned out right now. It's a real effort to sit down and do the minimum. I'm looking forward to taking some time off later this month and in December too. But hey, I'm lucky I can do it! (And it is pretty interesting, about 90% of the time.)
I did nearly complete the PODA, but I never got the clothes in the dryer, and DH (wisely) doesn't like me to run it while we sleep, so I'll have to do it first thing in the AM. Had to have pancakes for dinner, b/c I didn't realize we were out of cheese -- kind of essential to quesadillas, ya know -- but I fancied them up with some applesauce and toasted pecans.
Tomorrows PODA highlights:
Shopping at Michael's for raffle basket decorators
Make raffle ticket containers
Finish vendor thankyou letters/donation receipts
dry and put away laundry
freelancing
paper purge
In case you're wondering, my moms group is doing a fundraiser this weekend for YWCA Transitional Housing (for homeless women and children, gives them a place to stay and job/life skills training so they can move on). People who do direct sales (Avon, Creative Memories, and so on) or have their own crafty business (jewelry, needlepoint, personalized stationery) buy a booth and donate to raffle baskets. I've been good about choosing tasks that do not involve working with others! Hopefully it will help the many moms in my group who have a direct sales business and help the housing program, and help all the people who want to get holiday shopping taken care of!
On a similar note, I'm going to a home party for Women in Progress -- African women (from Ghana) who make cute batik clothing and sell in the states to raise money for women and families. (In one of the photos some of the women are holding up clothes in front of a store with the sign "My Redeemer Liveth Fashion." ) They have a web site if you're curious: www.WomenInProgress.org The clothes look super cute, especially for babies and kids!
I was up waaaaaaaaaay to late, and woke up too early! My mind does not work well on small amounts of sleep. Although I am proud of my states election results.

quick post, gotta get out of here. Need to take some things by the antique store and see if the guy wants to trade me. Homeschool park day at 1:00.
Savannah slept soooo good last night, 7 hours!! Even though I stayed up till the weee hours I still feel rested.
Got lots done yesterday, too much to TADA, the house looks good.
OH, what a night! We were up til 2 (girls were in bed by 9, though Shelby said her teacher told her to stay up and find out if there will be a recount. She's pretty darn smart for a 7 year old!). Chance, however, didn't go down til about 1. I'm an awful parent, I know. Oh, its 9 and he just got up. MOrning Chance!!!
I have so much to do and there is no end in sight. That light that was at the end of the tunnel has diminished. And I'm weighed down by two choices, Economics and Spanish or Grocery store. I think I'll choose grocery store. Then I can listen to Rush Limbaugh and my new squeeze Sean Hannity!

Well, in my opinion, at least it's over. Whatever will the cable news networks talk about now?
DSalmost2 has been sick a bunch lately, so we've missed therapy this week. I'm kind of bummed about that, feel sorry for the little guy.
AnneP, I like how you separate your kids' clothes. I have three boys in one room. They fit, but I have to work more at keeping clothes/sizes separated.
DH is home, yeah! But he is making piles, spending most of his "free time" with the boys, and then commenting on the unfolded laundry. HUH? Made up for it by rubbing my feet. He took out the garbage this a.m. I've showed him the good wishes from you all, he was a bit surprised. Chalk one up for the Imaginary Friends!!!
Depsparate Housewives: DH watched it with me. I AM the lady with the boys. No kidding. We laughed our tails off.
Journals? I have to look into the layout here at TNH.
Jamie Lea, LOVE your TADA list from yesterday. That will be my "inspiration" list for today. Hope chest, is that the place you put all of Hope's inspiring messages?
PODA: unload dishwasher, one load of laundry, fold Mt. Laundry. Pick up toys, plan a real dinner. Crockpot tonight! Look at Flylady calendar and figure out what week we're in, maybe do some off the lists.
That's what Baby Iris says, and that's what I say too! Amen, Karin, the election is over! I'm planning a one-week news fast to clear out my brain. The only part of the paper I'm reading is the crossword (which means I'll have to fold over Doonesbury.)

I am just exhausted -- guess what, I think I'm getting sick again! Yay! I swear, my allergy test had to have been wrong. I've got to be allergic to some fall thing.
Went to the Antique store, they weren't open yet. Trey's finished Math and Reading for today, will do the rest after the park.
In case some of you don't look at "journals" I updated my web page last night with lots of new pictures. The address is http://pages.ivillage.com/jamielea/
Shaun, I feel for you with the allergies, hope your feeling better soon.
Karin, Hope's inspiring messages have a special place in my heart Hope your DS is better soon.
Well I did as promised and attacked that sordid stack of papers this morning. Now they are divided into categories and ready to be put in files. That part isn't so bad, though.
Vacuumed, took trash to curb, couple calls done
Need to plan dinner, homework with DS
Jamielea-I saw your new picture updates and yes,Savannah is gorgeous and for good measure, the boys are handsome! Tell me more about an antique store that trades you for things. Sounds like a great concept.
All Halloween decor is put away and Thanksgiving stuff is out. DD3 had fun putting those window clings on the French doors. She crams a bunch of pilgrims and turkeys on one side and the rest of the door is bare...gotta love it!
Karin-I am a combo of Bree(the perfectionist) and the "woman with 3 kids". So that makes me "perfectly" stressed. LOL
Lenora-Ohio,our state, was the deciding one, heh. Hope your locals went the way you wanted. Everything passed locally that I wanted. Poor Cleveland City schools though,I feel for the kids in that one.
Well, better do some more productive things before dinner! Ha
I'm really beat today - a combination of everything today. I had coffee with a friend, went into DD's class and she was not looking well, so I took her home. I'm not really up to snuff myself - very stuffy! Missed going into DS's class, but I did get to grocery shop. I have cubs at 3:30 and then PT conferences tonite! I may try to nap in there sometime. I do have a load of laundry going and am working on floors!
I'm with Shaun - I think I'll take a news fast. I am saddened by the results of the election and worried about our country's future but I just don't have the energy to deal with it!

Shaun, how is the freelance work going? About getting sick, I noticed everyone around here started getting ill as soon as the heaters were turned on. Yuck.
Jamielea, THANKS for the link! I'll be sure to check it out.
Heidi, I am SO not Bree, ha ha!
Had a good day. Did most of the PODA. Printed out Flylady's Holiday Control Journal, will put it in the binder and take a look at it tonight. I got motivated to work on the Zone, then DS23months started acting ill again. Darn, was forced to lay on the bed and hold him, watching some rediculous day time TV show. Hate it when that happens!
I will put sweeping the porch and back patio on tomorrows PODA, and take down Halloween things, too.
I'm really tired and don't have time to post "personals" ever, but I really do read all your stuff!
TADA:
-laundry washed and dried (will put away in the morning)
-dishes (still need to do one more load, those things are piled up)
-homework
-went to bank
-gave DH an early birthday gift-- Buffy season 1 on DVD (his b-day is Sunday)
I have a question about Thanksgiving turkey which I posted-- can someone help me on it please?
I've been decompressing over the last two days. I thought I'd posted here after our "stay up 'til three to watch returns" night, but I guess I dreamt that. LOL!
Anyway, the house is really wretched and I've been unmotivated to do anything about it. Now that we're past the intense news cycle of the election season, maybe I should do a reboot on the baby steps/routines.
Our candidate for state house lost his bid, but lost well, if you know what I mean. He's a 24yo first-timer, up against a long-time incumbent, got virtually 0 coverage from the local rag (and what he got was inaccurate), but through personal contacts, hard work, great performance at debates, and I hope, some of my 500 letters, he managed to take 47% of the vote, with his momentum still building at the end! We're going to hear from this guy someday on the national scene, I'm sure of it. He was a great candidate. I'm very proud of him. I'm proud of my friend, his CM, too. They ran a great, focused campaign on a very tight budget against huge odds. Plus, the GOP turnout was fantastic in that district! Good news for the future.
Okay, that's the end of political talk, I promise.
We've had rain and drear for the last two days, but the sun is out and glorious this afternoon! Beautiful!
I'd better get off this computer and get something done. I've become addicted to The Corner. LOL! They were updating faster than the cable news networks on election night, with better info too.
Very nice day~nothing complete to show...house still has dust~didn't swish any toilets.
But my bestest friend came over and we sat for 3 1/2 hours drinking coffee, talking and laughing and sneaking Halloween candy. My soul and brain are cleansed. I feel quite renewed.
The girls had a 3 hour tea party, complete with vienna sausages, apples, mini marshmellows and reeses pieces! They loved it. It got a bit messy,(but was in the playroom/patio but they got to wash the mini plastic teaset afterwards. Everyone of their dolls participated. Was a joy to listen to.
Sorry Becky~I love turkey, but crockpot and turkey throw me? Maybe, get a turkey breast only?
Susannah~I went to the corner, and thank you, I enjoy the depth of the articles. Not a fluff pieces. Have marked NRO as a fav. I am recently back on the net, and a bit overwhelmed looking for news. NRO looks good. We don't have a TV in the house, but have managed to use other sources of media, but always looking for something to stir my brain.
Beef&Bean burritos for dinner, and shower and bed early...the late nite elections and last night (church was buzzing with the election results and stayed late talking) have done me in. Will be up to flying tomorrow.
I hope we are out of the entry way! For crying out loud, I don't want to clean out my front closet!
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
Susannah, I'm sure I'm feeling much like you are as far as election/news elation and burnout. I wonder now how much fun will listening to Rush and Hannity be? LOL!
I've been in classes all day, met DH in town to pick up the boy, ran thru the grocery store and managed to get everything on my list, then got to the school just in time to get the kiddos (I had called and said I would be a couple minutes late anyway). Of course, the teachers don't mind, they just put a movie on for them til I got there while they cleaned up the room. Got home, unloaded the groceries and put away, and cleaned out the pickup some (it's a MESS!! No floor that you can see!). Anyway, it's much better now, needs a good vaccuming and wash, very dirty and muddy from rain and snow in the past few weeks, and of course, I can't resist going thru every mud puddle on every dirt road! It's so much fun!!
Much school work needs to be done. I think I have a Spanish quiz to take. 2 chapters in econ, critical thinking exercises for Political science. That class was so much fun today. American National Government. The teacher was about to pee herself in her excitement talking about the election and numbers. Lots of numbers. But it was interesting and it meant we didn't do any REAL lecturing/work that was class related. Also need to type out my history notes. Popes and Crusades.
I think Tuna Casserole for dinner tonight. Simple, and the kids absolutely love it. With blueberry muffins and green beans.
My meal plans: out the door; my motivation to get DD's playroom organized: poof! gone!; my goals to have everything done for weekend: only semi-realized. I don't know what is wrong with me. The time change always seems to throw me, so maybe that's what it is. Around 5, I am ready to call it quits I guess because it's dark already.
Today will not include a stellar PODA (or TADA either, for that matter):
* Laundry
* Unload dishwasher
* Get DD to preschool
* WHB - get ready for weekend
* Work on next week's menu plan (DH will be on day shift until end of year now, so I'll need to cook complete meals every night)
* Work at office a.m.
I feel so blessed to be able to work part-time and from home, don't get me wrong. But, sometimes it's the worst of both worlds. Since we're home in the afternoons (me supposidly working), the house gets messier. I wouldn't have it any other way, but sometimes it's just hard to juggle. Thankfully, I don't typically have tons of business calls from home, so it's not too stressful on a daily basis.
Well, I am dressed to shoes, but I need to "put my face on" as my GMA says about putting on makeup. Y'all have a good one.
TGIF!! I am glad it is here! Up early today, before kids, so much better to be able to read/pray. Well, I got a hello God in and the kids began rollin' in!
Feel so rejuvinated after yesterdays SLUG out!
So PoDa:
Put away girls laundry folded in basket in their rooms.
Use basket to retrieve boys laundry from dryer.
Load of girls clothes from beginning to end.
I am gonna do the closet in the entry way! 15 min increments, clean rest clean. Hoping to do it in 2!
Quick update of checkbook in 'puter. Today is PAYDAY! Yahoo! DH will do bills tonite. I am gonna try hard to input once he is done
Go get water, hopefully they will put it in the van for me!
That's it for now!
Jenny!!! I love mud puddles...and the screams from the kids when you hit the big one, that causes a huge wave bigger than the van to spray up! Must be cause our rain is so few and far between?
{{{Vonnie}}} You need a SLUG day with out guilt! Hope your frazzleness gets better!
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
That's all I can do today. Got a Spanish Quiz (ok, took care of that just now. Too bad I cheat with the book, I really gotta learn this stuff, I can't use the book on the final). Lots of Spanish learning, maybe make some flash cards or something. Also lots more! whoohoo! Isn't this just fun!!!
Susannah, 47% of the vote is nothing to sneeze at. Especially for a young newcomer.
AnneP., oh, man. I'd sit forever and drink coffee with my friend, if I let her through the front door of this CHAOS home, ha ha!
Christmas cards. I might have missed the postings on this, I've been half here. Are you guys doing Christmas cards to our Imaginary Friends group here? I could volunteer to gather snail mail addys via the Personal Messages, then only send them out to those who are participating. To keep it as "private" as possible, in our personal group.
Okay, I did my online shopping today. Found some great deals (free shipping and no tax, too) on things we needed, belts for DH, pants for DS3. I'm all coffeed up (was I giving up coffee? I need to...).
Did most of the PODA yesterday, also been going to the gym most days too. I think that and early bedtime for the boys has me getting more done lately. Today there's a ceremony for 12 officers getting promoted, and their party tonight, so I will be happy to get the basic routines done today. HAVE to do the basics, at least.
Not much flying the last couple days, sorta have my head in the sand if you know what I mean I promise to try and stay on topic, so here it is.
TADA (yesterday)
*homeschooled
*spent time with DH last night (watched a very "man" kind of movie) "The Punisher"
*Savannah slept ALL night. I fed her some cereal in her bottle at 11 and she slept till 8 this morning!
PODA
*set the timer and work on the downstairs, 15 min at a time.
*one load laundry
*homeschool
*spend some more time with DH (he's off today)
We picked up some "USBOURNE" books we ordered from the prak on Wednesday. Trey got a magic kit, a creepy crawly kit, and a Science experiment kit. I taught him how to do one of the tricks from the magic book last night, I had Tony and Anthony fooled. Pretty neat. I also got 2 cloth books for Savannah and of course she's already eating them. Must be pretty good.
Speaking of Savannah, she's fussin so I'll see you guys later.
Jamie Lea
Karin, that would be great if you could do that with the holiday cards. Should I e-mail you? Would you like me to put an announcement on the "clearing clutter" thread?
Susannah, that's definitely what I'd call "losing well."
Thanks for the idea Anne. I want to get a whole turkey because it is a better value, but I'm thinking I might just cut off and freeze the legs and wings, then cook up the breast in the crockpot like that. If I don't hear any better ideas, I'll do that.
I suppose I could just CALL Reynolds and Butterball and ask if it would work.
Jenny, I'm with you on the school thing! Flashcards are my favorite way to study. Anything I can make work with them, I do. They're fun. Sort of. If they're multicolored.
Jamie Lea, Savannah's eating cereal already? Wow, time flies! What a big girl! How old is she?
You're doing great Vonnie. Really!
I have to go take an exam in an hour. I'm fully studied for it so I am just doing more fun stuff down here in the computer lab, like surfing TNH.
PODA:
-get a library book for my French paper
-e-mail my French prof with some questions on my paper
-e-mail DH's ad hoc choir with the information on the text we're using (a poem by Larry Levis called "Elegy with a Petty Thief in the Rigging") because the performance is Sunday and I still haven't done that! And a lot of them don't understand the poem very well.
-get registered for spring classes
-study study study
-go to a meeting at lunch time with my department
-go on a museum trip which I found out USC is sponsoring to the Chinese American Museum-- should be fun! It's in the afternoon for 2 hours
-come home and put away laundry
-collapse
At least the museum part is fun! Tomorrow I promised the choir I'd bring cookies to the dress rehearsal so I'll make them tomorrow after I take the cat to the vet. (He's okay, just needs some meds.) I'm making oatmeal raisin cookies at the request of the conductor, who is also DH's supervisor in his TA-ship. I'll make brownies too, and we can bring veggies and dip and that's it.
I missed the cards last year (in fact, I didn't send them to anyone, eventhough I had them made, really cute pictures of the girls as angels), so I'd love to exchange this year.
Tons more to do today.
We have an Usborne rep at our sale tomorrow -- she's a friend from church. And moms group. If she ever has a sale I'll let you know.
Well the laundry is done. My part! Boys will put theirs away when they get home!
Same friend from yesterday, VBF, called to volunteer her tummy muscles for me today. We went grocery shopping and picked up water. she even pumped my gas! I hate pumping gas. I have never gone grocery shopping with a best friend before. We laughed so much. She pushed the cart, with my two, and her one in it. Was fun. Becky, this friend could come in my house anytime, she would climb over a huge pile of CHAOS, and laugh and ask if I want more coffee.
I didn't do the closet, and I don't think I am gonna! Bad FLybaby!
I am gonna bow out of Christmas cards this year...I didn't do them last year to my family or anyone. Have tremendous guilt, and have vowed to get those ones out.
FRiday night, DH called earlier and wants to do something with the kids tonite...we have an IMAX, and it has NASCAR film. The boys would love it...so maybe...ice cream is on the agenda of course!
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
I am so beat. We've had a couple of nights of nightmares here, not fun. It's 7:30 and I am heading to bed.
TADA
made nachos with DD for dinner, she was so proud!
caught up on last Sunday's paper
packed up the boys and sent them off to hunting camp
made it through the week-the biggest TADA ever for me
PODA
early to bed, and hopefully sleep well
PODA for tomorrow
laundry-I don't even want to look
dishes-at least two loads
groceries
DD's room
general fling
empty garbage
school work
make some nourishing food, maybe some cookies?
There, that seems manageable. Thank God I have an at-home, quiet weekend.
What can I say? My body doesn't understand that it's the WEEKEND! Actually, I do have a reason for being up. I don't know that I've ever mentioned it here before, but I have problems with my hips. They are double-jointed and when I was young, I would pop them in and and out of place often. Now, at the ripe ole' age of 36 I am "paying the piper" for that fun! Many mornings I have to get up because laying in the bed tortures me. My grandfather had hip replacement (albeit in his old age), and I figure one day I will too. But for now, I take Tylenol arthritis formula when they act up. I'm also taking that from time to time for the tendonitis in my elbow. OK, so now I sound like I am 80 years old!
We did score tickets to the University game here today. My boss is not using his & he is GIVING us 4 tickets. So, we can find an extra person to go with us. DD will be beside herself when she finds out. Everytime we pass the stadium she wants to know when she is going to watch 'Bama play! I don't have the tickets in-hand yet (they were at his home yesterday so he said he'd leave them for me at our office today; if I don't hear from him by lunchtime, I'll have to call him - he is a "forgetter" sometimes!), so I haven't told DD. The game is at 5:30 p.m. and it is going to be CHILLY. I am going to layer everyone up. If it gets too cold, we can always leave early. IF DD would let us! She actually watches football, y'all! She's 4.5 and she will say "Did they catch that?" "Aw, come on defense!" It is so cute! She's like her Mama in that respect! I always went to high school games to WATCH the game unlike my friends who went to socialize. And I'm usually the one on weekends who first tunes the TV to football (assuming there's not a NASCAR race on). Guys tell my DH all the time that he is so lucky that his wife is "cool" -- LOL!!!
You know, I did have all of the laundry caught up yesterday afternoon & I noticed when I put my clothes in the hamper last night that it looked full again! Huh? Of course, there were two thick sweaters in there so I guess that accounts for it. I will run a couple of small loads today just to keep the laundry at bay. My PODA:
* Laundry - also do DH's uniforms if there's time
* Assemble our "outfits" for tonight & go ahead and pick out our Sunday clothes for tomorrow
* Move more clothes around (I think our warm weather is over now, so I can move out the handful of short sleeve shirts I had kept in my closet); put turtlenecks in my bedroom closet
* Look for an ivory turtleneck or cowl neck sweater at JC Penney
* Make a copy of Christmas songs from CD to tape for Kid's Choir director
* Finish watching "Joy Luck Club" and send it back to Netflix
* Make a menu plan for next week (grocery store Sunday evening)
It's finally chilly here. I made the girls put on jackets before going out to play. Not sure how long their lizards will be hanging around. (Did I mention their latest thing is catching lizards?)
Jo, I'm sorry to hear about the nightmares. That's too bad. I hope you managed to sleep well.
Jenny and Anne...enjoying your 4-wheeling adventures vicariously.
Vonnie, did you make it to the game? How did it turn out? How cute that you have a dedicated little fan! I don't follow football, but my dad was crazy about LSU.
We didn't watch the NASCAR IMAX in Charleston, we watched the Coral Reef. Afterwards I wished we'd watched the NASCAR, since the Coral Reef Adventure was depressing.
Usborne: Me too! We have the world history book (bought used at homeschool conference).
Becky's a good disciplined girl for studying up before getting on the computer! And it's my impression that you can do just about anything in a crock pot but it comes out mushier. I prefer to roast fowl because I like the crispy parts. I have done a chicken in the crock pot before and it was pretty good. I think you can do sticky chicken in the crock pot and that is YUM!
Just sent J.D. outside too. But Elias is insisting he doesn't need pants socks or jacket, so no going out for him! I'm negotiable on the jacket (it's not THAT cold), but pants?
I totally forgot about P.E. yesterday! And ironically, DH was home (sick, poor guy) and I had the van available. I didn't even realize it was Friday. It was just a weird week, with family visiting and elections.
However, I have remembered that there is a church picnic on Sunday after service. So, to the grocery store I go. We're out of toothpaste anyway and we've been eating too much fast food this week (Book-It pizzas last night).
TA DA's for yesterday:
*Homeschooled
*Vacuumed up- and downstairs (but not stairs)
*Straightened kids' rooms
*Straightened living room
*Washed dishes, loaded DW
*Caught up on laundry!!! But, like Vonnie, I've collected another load already.
Sorry if I missed someone! I know I scanned, but I can't remember all I was going to address.
"We're out of toothpaste anyway and we've been eating too much fast food." Susannah, when I first read that, I thought you meant your family was going to eat toothpaste for supper!
Horribly busy day. PODA:
-Call Jo-Ann Fabrics and resubmit my debit card (gave them the wrong expiration date)
-still more laundry
-get groceries, for ourselves and the above-mentioned rehearsal
-send out an e-mail to the choir members about the text of the piece
-take cat to vet
-go to rehearsal
Vonnie, that is neat about DD and the 'bama game (although I question your team. I'm a UGA, UT (tennessee), Texas Tech and Auburn fan myself)! Have you seen Remember the Titans? Will she be the coach's daughter, always yelling at the plays? Or maybe she is getting ready for cheerleading (Go Defense!!!). Have a great time at the game! Football games are supposed to be spent in chilly weather under stadium blankets and sipping hot chocolate. My husband doesn't watch sports, can you believe it! I watch them more than he does!!!
Ugh, toothpaste for dinner! BLEH!! LOL! IT has been a wacky week.
Much studying to do today. Ran out of index cards for my flash cards, will have to get more. I'm going to spend a good chunk of time just hitting the books. One load of laundry going, kitchen fairly clean (I hate my kitchen, and you can't tell when I have cleaned it because it is so ugly. Someday it will be white and clean). I can't wait to sew again, and the house to be clean again, and to play with my babies more again, and scrapbook again...
I was up at 6 and after two big cups of coffee (twice my usual amount) I was full of P & V so have gotten quite a bit done.
TADA
five loads of laundry
two loads of dishes
general pick-up in the LR, kitchen, and DR
emptied garbage
made a bacon, cheddar, and onion quiche
read the paper
meal planned and made a grocery list
talked to mom on the phone
made my bed
TADA
groceries
make some oatmeal-raisin cookies
clean out the van
clean and vacuum DD's room
finish laundry (4 or 5 loads left-yikes!)
do some school work
find a fun movie to rent for DD and I tonight-girl's night
I feel much better now that my house isn't in total disarray too, and it feels good and productive to nurture us all a little bit.
Have a good one everyone.
Love,
-Jo
Some of our clothes were stolen out of the laundry room. Nothing sentimental or irreplaceable, but I'm pretty mad about it. I reported the theft to the management office. It was partly my fault for leaving them there, but really, it is such a pain not to be able to have a washing machine in my own apartment. We don't have a hook-up for one.
Sorry about your laundry loss, Becky. I presume that the thieves live in your apartment building .. so they must know that you're going to RECOGNIZE your own clothing if they are caught wearing it.
Perhaps it was just an accident? Someone said, hey, go get our clothes out of the dryer, and the dutiful spouse went and grabbed all the clothes out of all the dryers?
It's so windy here, I'm not inclined to venture out. The winds coming off of Lake Ontario can be pretty cold, and it makes driving a little scary. Last night a tractor trailer with a load of ice cream overturned on the interstate, just up from here. Looks like the driver's okay .. I hope they could rescue our friends Ben and Jerry too!
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Rose
Savannah slept from 8:30pm till 4:00am!! I went to bed at 8:30 so I got a nice little chunk of sleep too.
Becky, Savannah's 3 months old now. That's about a month before the Dr's say to give them cereal but I gave it to Trey early as well. I give it to her in her bottle, and she's doing good with it. Sorry about your cloths, I just hate that. The first year we lived in this house someone stole my electric pumpkin off the front porch and 7 years later I still refuse to put anything other than lights outside.
We've got a Birthday party at 2:30 (one of Trey's friends) and company over tonight at 7. Next weekend is almost identical, B-day party at 11 and company at 7.
DH found out that if (yes, I'm still holding out hope that his mission will get canceled) he's deployed for 18 months he'll get to come home every 6 months for 2 weeks. Makes me feel a little better.
Ok, back on-topic...
TADA
*Morning routine
*back patio swept
*one load laundry done to finish/one in the dryer
*DH went to pick up B-day present and things for tonight
*Trey got his room clean
*Tony and Anthony cleaned their room
*Scooped kitty litter
*wiped down all kitchen counters
*swept and mopped kitchen
PODA
*vacuum downstairs
*have one of the boys vacuum upstairs
*B-day party at 2:30
*stop by the store on the way home (stuff DH forgot)
*spiffy the 1/2 bath
*spiffy myself
Rose, did you hear about the M&M truck that turned over somewhere and spilled!? The road was covered in chocolate! Then your ice cream truck that overturned, kinda wierd, huh?
I am so bummed! The cold that's been threatening finally blossomed last night into full-blown illness. So the fundraising event I've been working on is happening today without me. I feel bad about not fulfilling my commitment to the project, and even worse because I know my two good friends heading up the event were about to explode when they heard the news. So it's been a bummer of a morning.
On the plus side, DH has tried to be extra nice, running to the grocery store for lunch and some flowers, and some special cardamom foot lotion for me (this, I think, was a matter of self-preservation as much as a show of kindness ).
Baby is asleep and, against my better judgment, DH has taken DD5 to The Incredibles. I didn't want her going to a PG movie until I knew more about it, but he had her so pumped up for it that I had to step aside and let it be his decision. So I'm about to do some freelance work -- this project has been a bit of a bear, very slow going.
People do weird things in laundry rooms. In addition to having clothes stolen, I once found all our underclothes draped across the furniture and doorknobs, and on another occasion someone pulled my wet clothes out of "line" and put his own in the dryer (don't know if this happens where you live, but on weekends sometimes the dryers create a bottleneck). It's like the law of the jungle down there.
Not sure what else I'll do today:
TADAs
Broke down some of the many cardboard shipping boxes piling up
Cleaned off DR table
Ran dishwasher
Folded sheets
Started new load of laundry
PODA:
Put away laundry
Remake DD5s bed
Vaccuum in LR
pick up toys so we can vaccuum
I think that'll be it. Don't want to be too ambitious!
Im a bad flybaby!! I have fallen off the wagon and I cant get up! Ok maybe not that bad but its not looking too good around here and if I dont start eating something other than chinese food and pizza I am going to scream!! Needless to say Alexa has kept me pretty busy. I have decided it was best not to go back to work yet so I am still on leave- unpaid leave- but at least I get more time with my cutie pie little girlie. I think I will go back on call for December and then part time in Jan.
Jo, I am so sorry for the hard time your famiy is going through. You have put a lot of things into perspective. You are a strong lady and your family is lucky to have you
Jamielea, OK Savannah is 3 months Alexa is 5 months Savannah is sleeping all night Alexa is waking up again at 2am. What is wrong with this picture??? LOL.... I think you stole my good sleeping vibes... She goes down great by herself but started waking at 2am this past week. Before that she was sleeping 8am-8pm. UGGHHHHH.... i think its the teething- she drools all day long. I checked out your website and Savannah is gorgeous. Your family looks complete
Hi everyone else
Not much flying so here is my pathetic day:
~unloaded dishwasher
~put shades up in Alexas room finally since she has been waking up early since daylight savings time
~went to toys-r-us started Christmas shopping for Alexa and nieces and nephews
~got Dfil birthday gift and went to see him today
~made menus and had Dh go foodshopping. He is a saint
~looked for Christmas dress for Alexa but didnt find one yet
~bought Alexas first Christmas ornament
OK not too bad.. I need to check in with you girls everyday again. I missed you guys... Love Jackie
I popped in and saw 11 new post! Wow ladies! I watched the video of the chocolate syrup...that is so sad.
We didn't go to NASCAR~it was $9 a pop! $54 bucks for us to go to a 35 minute movie, that I have to close my eyes(motion sickness). So last nite we watched home videos and ate popcorn and the kids each got a can of cherry coke(big treat)
Today we went to ElPaso(80miles away) to a big huge mall, girls got their ears pierced. They smiled all day. They look even more beautiful! Yes, I am prejudice. We walked around the mall, went up and down the escalator. We went to Sams~
Jackie, they have the most gorgeous Christmas dresses for girls there!!! $23to $35, but they are like you dream about as a little girl. Pink and silver, gold and white, red Christmas plaid and black, ruffles, and tafeta...
Jenny~Did you guys sell your old trailer? Have you been able to do any remodeling on the "house"?
Jo~full of P&V! You put a smile on me...
Oh yeah, Flying...
put away the dishes DH did for me this morning.
Washed sheets and made bed!
Marinated steaks for Bagoki Beef tomorrow!
Did a grocery list!
You all have a great Sunday!
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
And now it's on to the state tourny next week. Someone was injured, but not sure who yet. I called one of the mom's who I knew would be at the game (1 cheerleader and 1 son in it). But it was a really bad connection. All I got was, we won, 49-16, albuquerque, hospital, leg. God, I hope it wasn't Jerrod. He's our star, a Junior. He makes usually about 8 TDs a game! Will definatly need him next week at the state tourny!
In other news:
Shaun, I'm a worse mother than you. My kids are up watching their favorite movie, The Mummy. They love the bugs that crawl under your skin and eat you from the inside out. LOL! I don't mind them watching small horror stuff like that, I think if they learn that it is fake and funny now, they won't be so scared of things later. Ok, I just want to see Brendan Fraser and I don't care if they watch it! LOL!
Anne, we still have the trailer. We are still renting it out, he's a great guy and has really kept the place up nice, and he pays, in cash, the very first day of the month. He is planning on buying it, but so far, hasn't been able to come up with the down money (he is trying to get custody of his children from his wife that fakes cancer when it suits her. She keeps leaving the state with them. Anyway, lawyers cost lots of money).
And on the house, no, I haven't been able to remodel yet. I did get a stencil put up in the girls' and Chance's room, but that's it. I'm hoping next winter to be able to do the kitchen, and maybe this winter to make the garage a family room.
I spent 5 hours on Spanish and don't know any more than when I started. I'm very frustrated and have decided that the entire world just needs to speak English, plain and simple. Wouldn't that solve alot of communication problems? Spent the rest of the day at the inlaws, where I huddled in fear of the outside because it was a beautiful warm day and the wasps were out by the hundreds (literally!). Ch'ree, MIL, and nephew all got stung. Luckily, I carry around a can of powerful raid in the diaper bag. LOL!
I go from not posting to two posts in 12 hours. But I have to tell everyone Alexa slept through the night again!!!!!!!!! WoOHOO!!!!! She slept 745pm to 630am. Not too excited about being up early but the plus is I have some tadas and its only 915am. MAybe Jamielea gave me some good sleepy vibes! I hope i didnt steal them from Savannah
Heres my early am tada:
~took out garbage
~made dh lunch for work
~ate healthy breakfast
~I am dressed with makeup on
~took out recycling
OK a good start to the morning. Now I just have to figure out what the heck to do with Alexa all day since she is down for her big morning nap at 730am.
Have a great Sunday everyone Love Jackie
Anne, I saw those dresses at Sam's and yes, they were gorgeous. Unfortunately my membership had expired so I couldn't buy anything!
Jackie, I'm so glad you could take some more time off - you will never regret it. Yes, I know you've probably heard that 100 times by now! I went back PT when my DD7 was 9 months. I worked 3 days a week for 10 months and was beat the whole time.
Hi to everyone else! Just doing odds and ends today - need to do some fall clean up outside.
Jenny, my DD5 would never sleep again after watching the Mummy! Luckily, she has always known this about herself and does a pretty good job of picking movies that won't freak her out. (She's watched most of the Disney princess movies exactly once, though she loves the characters dearly. It is a funny site to see a grown man begging his daughter to watch The Little Mermaid, "just the funny parts.")
I tried to post this yesterday but it didn't work -- DD and DH saw just half of The Incredibles and headed home. She was too freaked. DH, however, informed me on his way to church this morning (I'm still home sick) that he wanted to go back and see the rest! So if you have a sensitive 5yo, maybe wait on The Incredibles.
Good to see you around Jackie! I know that the first year after Iris was born I was pretty uneven in my TNH'ing -- posting lots, then going AWOL. Hang in there and it will get easier!
Still need to vaccuum, but I did get most everything else done that I needed to, including a real bugger of an essay on a 17th century Jesuit scientist named Athanasius Kircher. Interesting, but the guy is what you call a polymath -- studied and wrote about *everything.* So it's not so easy to sum up his career.
Today's PODA
Keep plugging away on the laundry put-away
Try to reorganize the drawers a bit so that the laundry has somewhere to go (herein lies the bottleneck)
Vaccuum
Collect and put out all recycling (we just got curbside plastics recycling this month -- yay!!)
Will add to this, but I want to try to relax while I can and get this cold out of my system. I wake up feeling so gross!
Hi Jackie, it's great to hear from you! Alexa sounds sweet.
Anne, "Chocolate and ice cream"-- you win the prize for my favorite-ever post heading.
Congratulations on the win Jenny! I hope the injury is not too serious, whoever it is. I always feel so sorry for players when they can't play.
Hi Andrea!
Feel better Shaun.
Rehearsal yesterday was all right. The conductor is DH's supervisor, and all three of us have some of the same students that we're teaching or for whom we're TA-ing, so after the rehearsal we three sat around gossiping about our students. We mostly talked about how to help some of the students who have disabilities; since I'm registered with the disabilities office because of my chronic illness, and DH's supervisor is autistic, we are all pretty concerned about that issue out of our own experiences.
I came home and didn't do the dishes. Bad Flybaby. I did, however, get groceries, and I put some raisins, dates, and cherries into rum to soak for a couple of days. I love this time of year. I was putting those fruits in the rum, and I was putting pumpkin puree, corn syrup, cranberry sauce, pecans, and refrigerated pie crusts away, and I just was thinking how great Thanksgiving is. It's such a wonderful holiday. I'm also really excited because I found out that my sister and BIL are coming for Thanksgiving.
PODA:
-morning routine
-do those dishes!
-make candied ginger and candied lemon peel, and put those in with the other fruit to soak in rum (I'm going to make fruitcake for Thanksgiving on Tuesday)
-go to the performance
I was going to put the everlasting laundry up there, but who am I kidding?
It is gray and raw out there. Yuck. It's making me sleepy, not to mention that I too have a cold and feel like someone poured cement into my sinuses as I slept.
TADA
down to two loads of laundry

read the paper
PODA
finish laundry

go to bed and read

Just a quick pop in before football for DH and book and cup of Chai for me.
Jenny~I can speak Spanglish, with a real anglo accent! When I go to Juarez, Mexico(bordertown), the Mexican people laugh at me and say, "No, no, seniora, I speak english, you speak only english okay?"
We get along just fine. Luckily, I can understand most of it, and know when they are making fun of this weta!
Jackie!!!Yahoo to you to for you being able to sleep all nite!
DH caved we have McD's for lunch! Because he thought his team was the early game, he wanted a quick lunch. (We sit at the table for our all our meals). But alas, it is the late game. So we all won!
PoDa
Clean breakfast dishes.
Declutter in front room 5 minutes tops.
Read book and drink chai!
Church this pm.
Top Ramen for kidlets after church. (maybe before)
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
I want to go to Sam's and see the dresses!!! Rumor has it from several people that we are getting one in Clovis, but I've seen no official word yet.
It's 70 outside, and the wasps beady little heads are banging on the windows. Shoot. Go away, so I can play outside!!! They are literally swarming around the house! It's like this everywhere, not just our house, there is no escape.
We went to church this morning, Chance was fairly good, I didn't have to leave with him. The girls enjoyed Sunday School, then we met Jeff at Juanito's for lunch. Even Chance cleaned his plate (cheese enchilada, beans and rice). Then the kids and I came home. Decided not to go to the music/picking thing we have on some Sunday's at the community building, I hate chasing Chance away from the amps and instruments, then shooing him out of the kitchen cabinets where the serving bowls and cups are, then the ice maker, then the microwave, then just slamming every door in the place. I'll sing another day. Laaaaa!!!!!
I upset I can't find anything about our game yesterday! Nothing in the papers today (Clovis' or Portales'), nothing anywhere else. There is no paper on Monday, so I'll just have to bug the teachers tomorrow at school or wait til Tuesday's paper. I want to know!!! Did find out that Melrose did win there game 100-50. Yes, this is football! We are the only team that beat Melrose, our biggest rival that is also the closest school to us. BIG competition. Will be a HUGE game next weekend. Wonder where it will be, here or there?
I'm just going to work around the house at a snails pace. Ya'll have a good un!
Jenny, Wal-Mart politics aside, if you like Wal-Mart, you will love Sam's! Love it, love it, love it. Ours just upgraded to a Super Sam's and it is fantastic. Our membership is 40 bucks a year though, and since it is 30 minutes away and my life is so crazy with work and all, I don't go more than 5 or 6 times a year. So I don't think I will renew. It would be a great Xmas gift though! (the membership)
Hey Anne! How are the girls doing with their pierced ears? DD5 won't do it.
Jo, hope you are feeling better soon. I've had that sinus thing too lately, yuk.
Did reading lessons with both kids tonite, they did well. I am supplementing public school with my own phonics program at home - Funnix. It's computer driven. I researched it and I know that my DD7 really needs the direct phonics instruction. DD5 picks it up more easily and is young still, but I know it won't hurt her to learn it. she is actually more motivated than DS.
OK I'm off to relax, both kiddos are in bed at 8:28.
Do you have Tastefully Simple out there, Anne? They make the best Chai mix. Maybe a little too rich and sweet to be "authentic," but pretty tasty all the same! (Tastefully Simple is a direct sales/home party company out of Alexandria, MN, so it may not have migrated out to you yet.)
TADAs:
Got all the laundry put away -- yay!!
New load of whites started just now in the wash
Vaccuumed rug and hardwood floors in LR and DR
Collected recycling (but I'm going to try to get DH to put it out)
Made double batch of "Mac & Cheese Lite" (basically a noodle casserole with lots of veggies and flavored with caraway, really yummy), froze one lasagna-pan-full.
Cleaned in sad-looking kitchen -- looks sooooo much better than it did all last week
Sent recipes and gift ideas to dad, who has been hounding me
Andrea, I envy you the sleeping kids. Iris has been such a bear at bedtimes, and what usually happens is that DH falls asleep with her. We went through a period like this with Sophie too. I had to start finding interesting things to do alone at night, since DH was asleep.
Hi to everyone else. You are making me hungry, Becky!
Oh, Andrea, I love Sam's! We have a membership, but the nearest one is 2 hours away in Lubbock, TX. Whenever we visit my SIL, we go there (or whenever we go to Sam's, we visit her, not sure which). If we do get one in Clovis, it will be about 45 minutes away still, but that's pretty close for us. It probably isn't worth the membership now, but I'll do it anyway. I love the place!
True to my word, I did nearly nothing. I killed a few wasps, did have to load up a bunch of balls of twine and take them to the field for DH, a little laundry. Chance flooded the bathroom (he managed to stuff an entire roll of TP down the toilet. the girls were in there with him brushing their teeth, I don't know why they didn't come get me or at least get him out of the bathroom!). So I took care of that. Watched the Dallas Reunion on CBS. Updated my web site. Enough for me, I want to go to bed!
DH is HOME!!!!! He came home last week, but we had other ceremonies to go to, and sleep to catch up on. All of us are sick, had DSalmost2 in the clinic yesterday. But other than that, I'm starting to feel like a "human being" again. Finally. It was a long year. Well, 51 weeks.
So, I'm going to be plugging in here more to get back into the groove. Routine is good. I won't check in until the MR is done.
Okay, truth, DH being home is excellent, but the house has been turned upside down. I've impressed upon him how I need order to keep sane. We're having fun now, but I need to get back to order, not piles of coats, shoes, toys, etc. all over the place.
Vonnie, your list is VERY motivating!
And Jo, I'm also very sorry to hear about your DHs business burning. Man, I have no words for this, but that you may have good support right now.
Scanning the rest of your posts last week, I missed a bit! Well, happy Monday!
The are the BEST! We are all bookaholics in this house. I know good books when I see them. We have so many books that I don't buy another one unless is really good, fills a niche I need/don't have. I like every single Usborne book I've ever seen and would buy them all if I had the money. We just "invested" in the Palette Learning discs, etc., and they are awesome. The boys love them! If anyone has an online sale in the future, give me a heads up and I'll probably order more. No, I don't push these for profit, don't sell them myself. I'm a scrooge with money, but these are worth every penny. All it takes for kids sometimes is to get them excited about learning and they take off. These have really helped my DS3 finally get interested in academic things. He's almost four, but I can tell already he'd rather kick a soccer ball instead of take a crack at academic things. I don't push him very hard, but these books have made it fun for him, really made something click in him that now he wants to learn how things work, etc. Kind of cool to watch how the little guys think like that!

Not fulfill a commitment to a project due to legitimate illness! I just know you cooked those germs up in a lab somewhere so you could get out of doing something you'd been really looking forward to.
When I told DH about the clothes, he said, "Well, I hope they need them more than we do." They are common and ordinary clothes so I don't think I'd know if someone else's black sweatshirt, for example, was actually mine. I'm trying to adopt DH's attitude. I think I will just count it as two 27 fling boogies!
Shaun~I found the Tastefully Simple site...the Chai is a bit more $ than I would spend...I drink it 2-3 cups a day! I use Mystic Chai, I buy it in bulk, $6 for 2lb can. (I go thru 2 a month, DH puts a scoop in his coffee in morning) But the site had a recipe for Chai french toast! Oh my, Saturday morning is gonna be a good smell in my kitchen. http://ww2.tastefullysimple.com/Recipes/recipe.aspx?rid=691
The dresses are RoseCottage~I tried to find a site just for them, but kept running into E-bay...I have to stay away from there.
Andrea~The girls are doing real good with their earrings....they really wanted it, we had promised for their 5th birthday(in Aug) to get it done. But they are ready, and we went to a place Piercing Pagoda. Real sweet girl and no pain. They love attention, and were strutting around this morning in church. I was 13 when I got mine done.
Tada
DS8&one of the DD5 and I made banana nut bread. Divide and seperate, it works in this family. To many questions with all 4. Was good to have one girl/one boy. They did good, I didn't lose my mind.
That's it!
Ready for monday....well kinda
"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."
It sounds like your husband is also military. Mine returns in December from his deployment. Well December if Rumsfeld is willing.
Any tips of welcoming him home without losing all aspects of flylady. I'm really afraid of the house going back into CHAOS. I'm kind of wobbling on the flying but trying really hard with baby steps. Any advice would be welcome..

New Day, New Week, New Month, New Thread...
* Fed dog
* Laundry
* Pay water bill
* Pay house payment
* Call children's director to discuss my class
Well, not much else today. We're scheduled to get rain tomorrow & Wednesday and then cooler temps. I am so glad. This ole' fat girl is ready to not sweat!
DD just got up, so I need to run.
Vonnie
Welcome home Karin's DH!
In the 1963 Amy Vanderbilt etiquette book, she wrote that men should always help with housework, because "any man with military training knows how to make good hospital corners" or something like that.
Vonnie, if you got clothes shopping done, you got plenty done!

It's SNOWING!

The girls love putting on a pretty dress just because we are going to the post office. The boys will come out in a full suit for school and just beam at the attention they get all day. Lot less stressful
Jo~I am really sorry about the fire...hope something good comes out of it for you guys. Hug your hubby, he must feel so just yuck!
Vonnie~I tried the nice clothes seperated thing...and those darn kids grow so fast, they wear the nice clothes once or twice. We now have a play clothes rack in the closet, for when I tell them put on play clothes (park or sanbox play) and the top stuff is for going in public

Welcome Home to Karin's DH!!
So glad you have ALL your boys home now
Snow, I'm jealous Anne! It's a little cooler here this morning, we had rain last night.
Walked the block then climbed into the back of DH's truck and rode for a while. They gave Trey's candy away while we were out in the truck
I could of beat em'! They went up to HEB and bought what amounted to a BUTT load of tootsie rolls to replace what they gave away. Luckily we had stopped at a few houses while we were out in the truck so he got some variety. TEENAGERS!!
Took Trey and Savannah trick or treating, well Savannah was just along for the ride
We've got Homeschool bowling league today, my back's still hurting but I'm going to try to take him anyway. I don't bowl so the hardest part will be getting the baby in and out of the van.
Anywhoo PODA
*downstairs is a disaster, clean that up
*homeschool bowling
*homeschool
*de-clutter in Savannah's closet
*Hummm? what zone are we in? Figure that out.
*@ least one load of laundry
See you guys later today

Monday
first off, Jo, I'm so sorry about your hubby's business!
Today's plan:
study for a history test tomorrow,
maybe do some economics
and/or spanish.
and/or outline a chapter or two for am. govt.
laundry
make 4 pumpkin pies, batch of cornbread and biscuits to take the the church tomorrow for turkey dinner on Thursday
enough for me! seeya!
happy monday
Shaun
Welcome Home, Karin's DH!!
There's DH; the van's home and I'd better go.
Love,
Susannah
Hi
HI all -
Just poking my head in briefly. what is a Southern Living party Shaun? Sounds fun. Good for you on the meeting. I'm not going to a cub scout leaders' meeting tonite either. So there.
Glad DH is home Karin, good luck with the adjustment.
Worked today so am pretty tired. No idea what's for dinner. Help!!! We can't have pizza again.

Afternoon
Today was one big SLUG, all I got done was Homeschool and Homeschool bowling league. I am making some homemade chicken noodle (and vegetable) soup for dinner, but the downstairs is still a mess. I promise to do better tomorrow.
Jo, I'm so sorry about your DH's business. I don't know how I missed that earlier, I guess skimming. I am truly sorry, keep us updated when you get a chance.
Jenny, e-mail me some pictures of your costume! You know I don't have the patience to wait for you to get them on the site!
Shaun,
I do have a sense of humor
I've decided to let Trey pour out the contents of his stocking 1st on Christmas morning, it'll be full of a variety of chocolate. Then for Tony and Anthony... tootsie rolls, a stocking slap full of em'

Way to go on skipping the event tonight, feels good to say no every once in a while.
Baby's getting fussy, see you guys in the morning.

To the Vote, To the Vote, To the Vote
I'm going to try to get to the polls before they open at 7 (less than an hour away) so I can vote before things get hectic. Not only do I work this morning, but I have that funeral to attend at 2 p.m. I don't want to be there when everyone gets off work at 5. We've already been warned to bring our i.d., our umbrella and our patience because there are gonna be long lines.
So, my PODA:
* Go to voting place to vote
* Drop off water bill at City Hall
* Take DD to preschool
* Work at my office a.m.
* Quick lunch and change DD's clothes
* Funeral at 2 p.m.
* Laundry
So, I'm gonna go run and get dressed so I can leave by 6:45. Y'all go vote!! Let your voice be heard!!
Vonnie
I love the time change!
I spend the whole summer looking for that lost hour!
Good morning all!
Please vote~it does my little heart good just to see America being Americans! It is our right, don't lose it! I do care how you vote, vote what you feel is right for America and your family.
I climb off the soap box.
PoDa

Wow, we're all good citizens!
However,

That explains a lot.
voting and snow
Going to enjoy myself and watch Fox News!
worn out!

TADA All my PODA with the
TADA
Better run,wanna catch the news.
Have a great night!

*cleaned out a junk drawer
*one load laundry done
*homeschooled

*cleaned out my Hope chest
*played with Trey in the back yard (it's finally cold here!!) Yippie!

Sorry about that mean trick Jenny
See you guys later tonight
Burn out
Well, Karin, since you asked, I'll take the opportunity to whine.
(In one of the photos some of the women are holding up clothes in front of a store with the sign "My Redeemer Liveth Fashion."
) They have a web site if you're curious: www.WomenInProgress.org The clothes look super cute, especially for babies and kids!

Yikes! My eyeballs are burning
I was up waaaaaaaaaay to late, and woke up too early! My mind does not work well on small amounts of sleep. Although I am proud of my states election results.
Why can CA have their results in in 4minutes, yet OHIO take forever???

Tada
One load of laundry done to dryer.
Found all but one elusive library book.
showered.
dropped boys off
and managed to bring a casserole to a friend who had teeth pulled yesterday.

P/U boys and rush to piano(remember to write check)
dinner~something with the 2 pounds of hamburger I have defrosting.
Church tonite~I need it! Missed Sunday night and feel just out of it! Need a spiritual jump start!

Savannah slept soooo good last night, 7 hours!! Even though I stayed up till the weee hours I still feel rested.
Got lots done yesterday, too much to TADA, the house looks good.
In case some of you missed my journal entry I updated my web site with lots of new pictures. It's at

Wednesday
Ya'll have a good un!

Happy Day After Elections.
Take care!

Ahhhh Dun
That's what Baby Iris says, and that's what I say too! Amen, Karin, the election is over! I'm planning a one-week news fast to clear out my brain. The only part of the paper I'm reading is the crossword (which means I'll have to fold over Doonesbury.)
TADAs

I am just exhausted -- guess what, I think I'm getting sick again! Yay! I swear, my allergy test had to have been wrong. I've got to be allergic to some fall thing.
Maybe I'm allergic to elections!

Back again
Went to the Antique store, they weren't open yet.
Trey's finished Math and Reading for today, will do the rest after the park.
In case some of you don't look at "journals" I updated my web page last night with lots of new pictures. The address is

Shaun, I feel for you with the allergies, hope your feeling better soon.
Karin, Hope's inspiring messages have a special place in my heart
Hope your DS is better soon.
Gotta run, see you guys after the park.
Good Afternoon! Well I did
Good Afternoon!
Ha

Post election crash
Hi guys -
I'm really beat today - a combination of everything today.
Have a good day everyone!

Back in the saddle...
Take care! --Karin
hey guys, how's it going
I'm really tired and don't have time to post "personals" ever, but I really do read all your stuff!
TADA:
-laundry washed and dried (will put away in the morning)
-dishes (still need to do one more load, those things are piled up)
-homework
-went to bank
-gave DH an early birthday gift-- Buffy season 1 on DVD (his b-day is Sunday)
I have a question about Thanksgiving turkey which I posted-- can someone help me on it please?
Hi, guys!
Love y'all!
Susannah
oops, double post
sorry!
Slug Day
Very nice day~nothing complete to show...house still has dust~didn't swish any toilets.

Here
I'm here on the roll call.
Friday and I've Fizzled Out!
* Laundry
* Unload dishwasher
* Get DD to preschool
* WHB - get ready for weekend
* Work on next week's menu plan (DH will be on day shift until end of year now, so I'll need to cook complete meals every night)
* Work at office a.m.
Vonnie
Good Morning!!

"It's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."

school work
That's all I can do today.
Vonnie, no POOF!
Vonnie, no POOF! You are my inspiration!!!!!
Take care! --Karin
hi guys
Not much flying the last couple days, sorta have my head in the sand if you know what I mean
I promise to try and stay on topic, so here it is.
Jamie Lea
OT for this list...
but please check it out in Kaffeeclatch (sp?). Just posted. Thanks!

holiday cards
Hi
HI all!
Just peeking in briefly - you are all doing great!
Vonnie, I am with you on the WAHM - I had a terrible time with it and am actually glad it's over.
Chores today on my day off, errands, then DH and I get to go out after an appt. in the city!
I'm in for the Xmas Cards
Andrea
Yes to Christmas!
Shaun
Well the laundry is done. My
Well the laundry is done.

Checking In
Hi Friends.
I am so beat. We've had a couple of nights of nightmares here, not fun. It's 7:30 and I am heading to bed.
TADA
made nachos with DD for dinner, she was so proud!
caught up on last Sunday's paper
packed up the boys and sent them off to hunting camp
made it through the week-the biggest TADA ever for me
PODA
early to bed, and hopefully sleep well
PODA for tomorrow
laundry-I don't even want to look
dishes-at least two loads
groceries
DD's room
general fling
empty garbage
school work
make some nourishing food, maybe some cookies?
There, that seems manageable. Thank God I have an at-home, quiet weekend.
Have a peaceful one all,
Love,
-Jo
Yup, Up at 5:15 a.m. on Saturday!
I hope y'all are doing good & have a great day.
Vonnie
Mornin!
Love y'all!
Susannah
you call this a weekend?
"We're out of toothpaste anyway and we've been eating too much fast food." Susannah, when I first read that, I thought you meant your family was going to eat toothpaste for supper!
Horribly busy day. PODA:
-Call Jo-Ann Fabrics and resubmit my debit card (gave them the wrong expiration date)
-still more laundry
-get groceries, for ourselves and the above-mentioned rehearsal
-send out an e-mail to the choir members about the text of the piece
-take cat to vet
-go to rehearsal
The museum trip was fun yesterday.
Time to get some coffee!
Vonnie, that is neat about DD
Plugging
I was up at 6 and after two big cups of coffee (twice my usual amount) I was full of P & V so have gotten quite a bit done.
TADA
five loads of laundry
two loads of dishes
general pick-up in the LR, kitchen, and DR
emptied garbage
made a bacon, cheddar, and onion quiche
read the paper
meal planned and made a grocery list
talked to mom on the phone

make some oatmeal-raisin cookies
clean out the van

Have a good one everyone.
Love,
-Jo
accidental decluttering
Some of our clothes were stolen out of the laundry room. Nothing sentimental or irreplaceable, but I'm pretty mad about it. I reported the theft to the management office. It was partly my fault for leaving them there, but really, it is such a pain not to be able to have a washing machine in my own apartment. We don't have a hook-up for one.
Stupid, mean thieves!!!
Rose
Hi Guys

*spiffy the 1/2 bath
*spiffy myself

trucks
Rose, did you hear about the M&M truck that turned over somewhere and spilled!? The road was covered in chocolate! Then your ice cream truck that overturned, kinda wierd, huh?
Home sick
I am so bummed! The cold that's been threatening finally blossomed last night into full-blown illness. So the fundraising event I've been working on is happening today without me. I feel bad about not fulfilling my commitment to the project, and even worse because I know my two good friends heading up the event were about to explode when they heard the news. So it's been a bummer of a morning.
On the plus side, DH has tried to be extra nice, running to the grocery store for lunch and some flowers, and some special cardamom foot lotion for me (this, I think, was a matter of self-preservation as much as a show of kindness
).
Shaun
Hi Flyfriends!!!
Love Jackie
Chocolate and Ice Cream!!!
I popped in and saw 11 new post! Wow ladies! I watched the video of the chocolate syrup...that is so sad.
You put a smile on me...

WE WON!!
LOL!
Im back again

Hi
HI all!
Bye!
Andrea
Not MY DD
Happy Sunday!
Shaun
good morning everyone! :)
Gloomy Sunday
It is gray and raw out there. Yuck. It's making me sleepy, not to mention that I too have a cold and feel like someone poured cement into my sinuses as I slept.
TADA
down to two loads of laundry
dishes
made brownies
groceries
cleaned out the van
church
read the paper
PODA
finish laundry
dinner: roast rosemary chicken, roast garlic mashed, green beans
go to bed and read
school work (correcting and filing)
Have a peaceful day everyone!
-Jo
We are a busy group!

A day of rest
Well, sorta.
Good evening
HI all!
Andrea
Mmmm, Chai . . .
Shaun
Sam's
New thread.
Head on over, see you there!
--Karin
Hoo-ah!

Usborne Books.

I'm Jealous...
I want to see the NASCAR film!!
chocolate
That accident occured a few hours away from here.

Oh, the chocolate-ity! Oh, the humanity!
Rose
how dare you...
Re: Chai

Welcome home
Hi Karin,
It sounds like your husband is also military.
