Accidently Seeing the President
The President of the United States came to Alamogordo, New Mexico yesterday. This is a very "conservative" town. There were only 10,000 tickets given out. You had to get there and go thru security 2 hours prior to Mr. Bush's arrival. That was a too much for Mom to stand. My husband and I decided not to go.
Eric, my oldest at 8, was a bit bummed. But he handles disappointment well. Too well, I think sometimes. He was in a very cuddly mood all afternoon, and the rest of the kids were playing in their rooms.
"Hey Eric, wanna go with me to Wal-Mart to get some ice cream?" I asked.
We were out the door, and headed south towards the store, the main street in town was blocked off due to the President. So we did some fancy detours on our own, and made it to the store. Lots of laughs on the way there and at the store, (which for a Sunday, was deserted) and we headed home.
Whoops, State Trooper stops us at the light. Not for speeding, but because the President is leaving. I ask if we can get out of our car. We can, we do, and Eric and I have front row seats and wave to Mr. and Mrs. Bush as they drive by.
Eric is beside himself. "Did you see them mom?" "That was the real President!" "They waved right to us." "Mom, that was so cool"
We drive home with melted ice cream, and a special time that no one can take away.
The President of the United States came to Alamogordo, New Mexico yesterday, and my son and I saw him.

seeing presidents
I spent a lot of my childhood living near Washington, DC so got used to seeing presidents and other public figures (especially George H.W. Bush, whose tenure in office and then in retirement overlapped with my time in DC and then in Houston). It was always fun though, no matter how many times it happened.
How Cool!!
I saw that he was going to be down there, and we thought about going. But too much other stuff going on here, and we probably wouldn't get in anyway. BUT, two of my cousins played for him. They are a couple of little kids that play the fiddle and sing, and were asked to play for him.
I missed the first lady when she was in Clovis a few weeks ago, I called to get tickets and they were far gone and the waiting list was already 1,000.

Cool!!
That'll make a nice memory for the two of you to share. I've never seen a president, heck I never seen W when he was our governer.
