Online technical support please!
It has taken me 90mins of fiddling to get my modem acknowledged by my new computer and it feels good to be back in touch with the world after several hours!!!!
The worst is that being out of touch always comes when you most need help...
I'm running out of energy and enthusiasm and can't remember or guess the SMTP protocol thingy for my outgoing mail. I know I got the incoming mail server right because I got a Daily Dollop of Comfort from Jennifer Louden - just what I needed!
Anybody got a couple of suggestions I can use without needing to set up the other computer again, which I am NOT starting at nearly 11pm?!?!
I think the modem problem was simply because the installation guy who plugged it in at the last minute put it in the wrong slot. I tested it from one of the front USB ports and it all loaded fine at long last. Since the CPU's in a fancy keep-it-clean piece of furniture it's not that easy to access the back, so that will have to wait.
Now I just have to hope my father thinks to send me an email since I don't have his address handy, even if I could send any mail out! Why do people ever want to change computers so often??? This kind of stress is okay every 5yrs or so, but my parents change computer every year or so - they must be nuts.
Gotta finish this big lump of chocolate and remember to breathe deeply!!

Forget it
I'm smarter than I thought! Or maybe if I go round in enough circles I'll eventually catch my tail after all... I my yet need more help though. Anybody know a brilliant way of transferring bookmarks/favourites easily from one computer to another (no network connection, and only one with an internet connection)... haven't tried that one yet since the other machine isn't up and running, and I can survive with just Yahoo and TNH for quite a while!
Late night techno babble...
