Treasure Hunt
I am thinking about having a treasure hunt for DD8's 9th birthday. I have already picked a spot where to bury the "treasure chest" but need ideas what to put in it.
DD8 will get to invite three friends. The girls will be about 8-9 years old. I plan to bury the can a couple of weeks before her birthday so the spot will not be so obvious (It's in our back yard). The can is round, 5"x6", and water and bug tight (I hope...).
I already have some ideas for my clues. One will be a riddle leading to a book (on DD8's bookshelf), followed by number like 7/12 (meaning page 7, 12th word). Is that to difficult for 9-year-olds to figure out? I'd also like to figure out some other activities the girls need to complete to find the next clue. Any ideas for that?

What fun!
We do a treasure hunt every Christmas eve. Funny clues, ex: Sometimes they sprinkle, but sometimes they're neat, find your next clue on this seat. (toilet)
The sky is blue, and Roses are red, look for this clue where DS5 lays her head. (DS5 pillow)
I have DD-5 (twins), Ds 6&8, and they love it!
To put in the can...9 year old girls...
Are you doing a theme for the party...
fingernail polish, popcorn, video, candy, craft to do that evening, go to www.familyfun.com has tons of birthday party ideas...
Have fun!!!
gold coins
Chocolate ones, that is. They make good treasure chest items. Also little pieces of jewelry or hair clips or something of the sort.
That should be okay then.

No theme...
...until I clicked on the link. I still won't claim having a "theme" because DD thinks that themes are SpongeBob or PowerPuff Girls but "Treasure Hunt" will rule the party. I just printed out the instructions for the Treasure Chest birthday cake
I also printed out their treasure map and clue cards.
Thank you for the link!
Little pieces of Jewelry...
...sounds really good! I'll check out the DollarTree. Can't remember if they have jewelry but I think, they do. I may hit the Goodwill store for some costume jewelry as well. Any other ideas? I still have a month to go
I'd really like to add gold coins as well. Surely, they won't melt... The temps shouldn't go over 85 this late in the year. My "treasure spot" is in the shade and I'll bury the can about a foot deep...
