Clearing Clutter/Liberating Self Jan 5th

Hope's picture

MUSH!!!!! Our poor old thread was buried way down on page 13, and I know it's not because we're all cleaned up with nothing to do.

It's a whole new year, and I'm full of renewed vigor and enthusiasm.

It's time to muck out the stall gals....lets get at it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas....now carry on! Laughing out loud

Creepy!

I was just looking for the thread, got sidetracked by a personal message and came back to find you'd created a new thread! I don't want to scare you, but I think you must be reading my mind!! Jawdropping!

I'm hard at it, and really haven't even had time to get on here. We bought a new computer on Saturday and it's being delivered Tuesday night, so there's huge quantities of clearing needing to be done, both physical and virtual, plus it's 12th night tomorrow. Not that I'm quite as anal about that as I used to be... I take stuff down early, just that I ensure the last piece comes down on the right day. In this case it will be the whole tree. And it's all going into brand new boxes which stack neatly in the cupboard space allocated!

DH left again yesterday... it must seem to everyone like he's away all the time - it certainly does to me at the moment. He reckons on about 10 days every month this year, but that's very rough because things haven't really settled yet after the cafuffle at the end of last year. So I had that preparation to do too, and I shall again be glad to have him out of the way so I can clear the chaos without tripping over him.

I also have air-con maintenance coming this week (we were getting there anyway, then we came home to the kids' air-con dripping everywhere and flooding that wretched dollshouse, which again needs a new home!) and a hospital appointment... ARGH! So between the computer being off tomorrow and probably for lumps of Wednesday and maybe Thursday too, and all the running around, getting up at 6am to take DD to school... well I could spend a lot less time on here for a while, but you know I can't stay away long. Gotta have somewhere to come and groan since DH is away too much!

Yum!! Yum!! ELEPHANT

Morning gals. Laughing out loud

I have myself a heaping helping of elephant to eat here. How about the rest of you? One bite at a time right? I figure I shouldnt overdo it on my first day back, so I've decided "elephant" is a vegetable. I only need to have 5-9 servings right? I made up my to-do list for today and have 8 servings on there. Seven if I have to be honest about it. I guess a nap is really a dessert. Seven's good enough for me....I'm dieting HA HA.

Christmas/New Years could not have been wilder or nuttier. That's all the moaning I'm going to do about it...it's over for another year. Next year will be different...........yah.......right!

DH finally went back to the office this morning. He always takes the week off between Christmas and New Years, which is one of the reasons I have not been on here. You all know what it's like when the troops are underfoot. This is the first day in a long time that feels the least bit normal to me.

My eats for the day:

Take the tree down-I read an after Christmas organizing article that said not to be anal about putting things away. I am one of those people that put every little ornament back in their original box to store. Not any more! I went to Wally Mart and bought some storage totes that stack, and am taking my tree apart in reverse order. The last items I put on the tree will come off first and go into the bottom of the box. That way when I go to put the tree together agin next year the first items I need will be at the top. Only my very expensive ornaments are going back into their packaging, the rest are all just getting wrapped in tissue. I should be able to cut down on alot of storage space that way. I'm also setting aside all Christmas decor I want to get rid of or replace. We'll just see what I can part with(I am feeling pretty ruthless right now).

Laundry-Say no more eh? I have about four loads of it which is not so bad.

Kitchen cleanup-As usual.

Garbage roundup and fridge cleanout-It's garbage day tomorrow and I'll have a truck full.

Phone calls-Touching base with friends I've not had time to call.

On-line banking to pay bills- Dirty job but someone's gotta do it.

Roast beef and yorkshire pudding supper- I've just got to have something real after all that Christmasy food.

A facial- Just because I feel the need.

A nap- It's been impossible to have with DH home, so I'm not missing this one today.

This will not take care of the Elephant by any means, but it's a start. Did I tell you how cold it is today? I called the weather office this morning because I could just tell it was unusually chilly. -47C with the windchill. That's -52.6F to those who do F. I am not opening the door for anything but the newspaper today Smiling . Hearing you chatter about A/C Kerri gave me the shivers.

Oh, I have started to replace all my cookware. I decided that I want some really good pots, but I reallly can't bring myself to replace them all at once. I went to our Paderno store and got a new non stick pan. It's wonderful. I am going to get a new pot every payday until I have what I want. I made sure to toss out the old pan when I brought the new one in. These pots have a 25 year warranty on them so they should last me until I'm old enough to be eating "Meals On Wheels" Smiling , or dead.

I'm sure I could sit here and ramble on, but I have an elephant to eat so I'd best get my bib on. Have a great day gals....and get those Christmas decorations down before Valentines day. Later then Smiling .

Twelfth night

'I'm busy doing nothing, working the whole day through, trying to find something else NOT to do....'

Smiling

When I DO get around to doing something, here are the main contenders -

laundry
ironing
housework
dungeon duty (bedrooms!)
unpacking last few boxes from move
trimming triffid-like hedge in front garden
numerous phone calls
thank you letters
more laundry
more ironing

I took the decorations down, which I guess is a start. I just can't get into that 'New Year, Clean Sweep' frame of mind. I am planning to make some resolutions, but I haven't even got around to that yet.

Gonna go lie on the couch and eat some chocolate money. See ya tomorrow....... Smiling

cameron's picture

I just have to brag

My husband and I have managed to get rid of three boxes of books! That's got to be at least eighty pounds. Our linear feet of shelf space is almost at a 1:1 ratio with our linear feet of books; of course, now we have bookstore credit. Smiling

Brr, Hope! Here in Seattle we're all complaining bitterly because the weather is slightly sub-freezing. We're a little wimpy when it comes to dealing with cold.

My new year's resolution was to get a housekeeping schedule and stick to it. It's laundry day today, and I'm -- well, almost doing it, really. I've done three loads, but I'm balking at folding that fourth one. Bleh.

There had to be a good reason...

NOT to live in Canada, and now I know exactly what it is! It sounds a lot like Beijing - too damn hot in summer and stupidly cold in winter. I wish you telling me those temperatures had helped me to feel cold, but I've got windows open and I'm shifting pretty fast so I'm quite sticky - ick!

Tree's in pieces, so that must mean I undecorated it. The decorations are still filling the living room because I bought myself some proper nice new boxes from IKEA before Christmas, so it isn't just the usual routine - it requires real brainpower! Sad My desk's pretty clear and I'll be unplugging this machine and moving it over some time this afternoon, but I don't know at all when I'll be back online, so don't be surprised if the thread disappears because I've had nothing to say for myself in a while. I'm having a hard time keeping the kids from creating mess in exactly the spaces I'm trying to clear, and faster than I can clear it! I got a special mini laundry on with a light bit of bleach (couple of beige cushion covers and a white shirt that I used shampoo on for the collar grime - seems to have worked one way or the other). Not sure if I can be bothered to do the other today.

I have to carve up and freeze the remains of my ham before I lose it and end up crying. Coleslaw must be ready to go in the bin, and the slow cooker's taking care of dinner today because the computer's arriving 6-8pm. Believe it or not they normally charge extra for that time of day because that's when people are home after work!! Personally I'd prefer it not to arrive in the middle of dinnertime, but it beats waiting on this any longer, so I just took the earliest available and kept my mouth shut! For once!

Gotta get DS off to school now and go collect DD. I've had something to eat (small sachet of instant buttery mash - it's becoming a staple in our house now!), but today's main lunch will be eaten with DD I think - I ran out of time but can't let my insides get too empty.

This afternoon is really going to be a battle... and I'm NOT looking forward to that ham! I'm with you on the elephant though Hope... if you've got a to-do list you can just get through it one chunk at a time, and whilst you know there's always more pieces getting added on the bottom of the list, it still provides a sense of achievement when all else feels pretty crappy! Smiling

I wish I could appreciate the clean uncluttered lines for a while, but I'm going to be putting up decorations for CNY by the weekend. Man, am I gonna be glad when that's all done with for this year.

Kerri.

Kerri's picture

oh yeah, and...

What's with getting rid of books??? Jawdropping! I threw one children's book in the bin but I should never have bought it in that awful condition in the first place, and it didn't survive the none-too-gentle handling of my kids, but 3 boxes?? Gimme, gimme!!! Laughing out loud

Kerri.

Heh. We were just about on track to be like this guy, trapped for two days under a stack of books and papers. Something Had To Be Done.

Books

Kerri, my first thought when I read that Cameron had got rid of books was gimme, too! What is it with us? Smiling

Hi Cameron, nice to see you over here Smiling

Well, yet again it's past lunchtime and I am not even dressed. DS12 has gone to my brother's cafe for lunch with my Aunt and Uncle. I turned the offer down as I am using my crockpot for the first time and I'm scared it's going to explode or something.

Today I MUST deal with the living room. That's all I'm promising to do, or I'll get overwhelmed and do nothing. I know myself so well!

See you later!

Hope's picture

That's Gonna be Mike!

Morning gals Smiling .

Cam, I saw that news report on tv a couple of days ago. The article is more detailed though. I sure hope our Flypal Mike has his 6,000+ books carefully stacked Laughing out loud . Good for you for releasing some of that reading material. I myself am not one of those people who have to save every single book, and have purged books on a few occasions. I've never missed one that I sent off. I do understand that some are passionate about their books though. I'm guilty of hoarding tissue paper, which is light enough I'd be able to dig myself out if I ever become buried in it. I donated most of my books to the library, so I can always take it out on loan if I do want it again for some reason. The only one I ever took out after donating was on needlecraft stitches. Cookbooks I did not miss AT ALL, not with all the recipies on the internet.

Honey, get off your back and see if you can't get rid of those last remaining boxes from the move. They're taking up valuable space. The contents could not be things you use very often or they'd be emptied already. If it's stuff that's important to you then it deserves a place of importance, not a life in a cardboard box. Can you tell I've been watching too much Clean Sweep lately Laughing out loud ??? Good for you Honey for getting that Christmas decor down already.

Kerri, not all of Canada is so extreme. It's a big land mass and we have areas with MUCH more moderate climes. On the prairies we don't have much to do in the winter other than brag(yes I do Shaun Laughing out loud ) about how we can survive. I think cold is relative. Bitter cold to me might be real scary numbers to others, but it feels the same as real cold temps to say, Cam. Her numbers might not sound as cold, but they feel just as cold to her as mine do to me. Did that make sense??? I must say we don't get much for snow, which is a blessing. I'd hate to be out shovelling. When I see the snowfalls and ice storms they get out in the east I am quite happy to just layer on an extra sweater and carry on.

Well, I did not exactly stuff myself with elephant yesterday. About 4 1/2 servings(and the dessert). I am still working on taking the tree apart........gee I don't feel like doing it. I did not get my on-line banking done yesterday either, so that is a MUST-DO today. It's garbage day...brrrr...I'm going to get DH up a little earlier and get him to take it to the curb. At least there won't be dogs running around today ripping garbage bags apart. No self respecting dog would be out in this weather.

I'm feeling so sorry for you Kerri. You still have CNY to get through.

Later gals....mission today....pick a small do-able task and stay focused.

lgunnoe's picture

**guilt**

I am not even going to tell you ladies what I did yesterday...too much guilt.....

suffice it to say that it involved no cleaning/clearing, no laundry, no cooking, no children, no humidity...warm sunshine, temperature about 68 F....AND another book! Smiling

My most important descision today seems to be whether or not I'm going to the breakfast buffet with DH (and Co.) or staying here in my jammies... Laughing out loud

My schedule today is about the same as yesterday...
its a rough life Eye-wink

Blessings,

Lenora

Cameron, Laughing out loud on the even ratio of books to shelving! I'm sure that could be a worthy goal of most of us...probably not possible at my house, though, unless I get ALOT more shelving!!!! Eye-wink

Kerri's picture

You deserve it Lenora!

Not a word of envy from me Lenora, because I've seen how hard you work the rest of the time to know you really earn the breaks!

I guess some people are a bit extreme about books, even by my standards. I've probably read thousands of trashy novels, but I have let them all go (after reading so many times even I couldn't stand them any more!), except a couple of favourites. It's painful letting go of most books though, so credit where credit's due Cameron! I still have the majority of mine left at my parents' house - they're hoping I eventually move back to the UK and let them have the shelf space because they're going to have to start building more walls soon!

My tree is in almost the same place as it was last night, and I don't care much. I didn't care about carving up ham or chucking out coleslaw today either, and I still have the washing up sitting in the sink for the first time in a few days. Yesterday was just too exhausting and I couldn't nap this afternoon because I had the air-con guy around. Well okay, I got 10mins on the sofa while I was waiting for him to bang on the door!

I felt very inspired and light this morning, but 5 1/2hrs of slightly disturbed sleep are catching up with me, so I won't be long after the kids to bed (DD is showering now and it's only just 8pm!). Since I don't feel like I care about anything much I should be able to polish off the washing up, ignore the rest and collapse into bed by 9pm if I'm really clever. Yes, DH is away. I think he's in Ireland now, but I haven't heard from him in several hours. He's off early Friday morning and doesn't hit the Ukraine until midnight, so he's not exactly having an easy time of it either.

CNY will be different this year. We'll be away for the days leading up to and the first days of it, and then the rest will mostly be back to work and school. That means minimal decorating for me this year (if I couldn't get it up for Christmas, I doubt I can find the enthusiasm for CNY either), minimal snack foods being bought, almost no big dinners to prepare. Should be good this time around, at least if I had just a teensy bit more energy and enthusiasm left.

DD's done with her shower, so it must be time to get her into bed and then tackle the washing up.

Goodnight all...

Kerri.

The Need to Lolligag

Morning everyone Smiling .

Lenora, I have to agree with Kerri here. You have earned the time off. I think we all need to be gentle with ourselves and enjoy some lolligagging time every so often. The problem I have is the desire to make lolligagging a lifestyle. Enjoy your books and quiet ....you will be back to school in no time.

Is this your new puter your're pecking on Kerri?

FINALLY I got my christmas tree down and put away. My new system got all the ornaments, lights, and tree skirt as well as a couple of mathcing tablecloths all into one storage tote. WOW!!! I'm impressed. Before it would have taken up about five boxes.

I have to take down all the garlands and ornaments on them today, and gather up the other decor from around the house. I also need to sort through the boxes of decor I did not put out out this year. Right now my "get rid of" box is looking pretty meager.

I also got the online banking done yesterday with what I had on hand to deal with. If it ever warms up I'll go over to the post office and get the mail that's waiting there. I'm sure there are some more bills. I have some shredding sitting beside me here that would like some attention as well.

That's it...not going to make the to-do list any bigger than that today. If I get more done it will be gravy right?

Have a great day, whatever you're up to Laughing out loud .

Hope's picture

Fern???

Are you lurking? How you doing?

I keep meaning to ask how your dad is doing, then forget by the time I hit the post button. I hope he was well enough for you to all enjoy the seasons festivities.

Honey's picture

decorations

Well, I THOUGHT all the decorations were down, then I went out yesterday and when I came home I realised there are still stickers on the windows! I'll get to that sometime today. Or tomorrow.

Today as a bare minimum I want to

tidy, organise and clean downstairs
make a few calls
do three or four loads of laundry

Hope, I really miss those days when you gave us a task to focus on each week.......I know you ran out of ideas, but it was fun and SOO inspiring Laughing out loud

Hope's picture

Very Well.....

Task for this week is to rid the house of the Christmas stuff. That means getting it PUT AWAY in it's storage spot Laughing out loud . No sign of it or of Christmas wrapping supplies. How's that Honey? You have 3 days left to get it done.

I got my garlands down yesterday and packed away, as well as the knick knack Christmas stuff. It's all sitting in my basement now waiting to go in the storage. I came up with two boxes of stuff to dejunk.

I have no idea what I'll accomplish today. For some reason I was wide awake at 2:30 this morning. As soon as I get DH off to work I'm going back to bed. I'm going into the city later to do some errands, and then to the kids house to stay with Sydney this evening while they go to LOTR. DH is dragging along with me as DS has a satt dish, which I won't let DH have. The thought of him with 600+ stations and a remote puts me right over the edge. He likes to go to DS's and play with it. I play with baby....he plays with the TV.

Time to shake the wrinkles out of him. Later gals.

Honey's picture

Almost done!

I packed up most of the decorations on twelfth night. The remaining stickers, Christmas tea-towels, Christmas slippers etc (yes really, I have Christmas slippers!) are in a large bag awaiting packing into a box. I will do that today, and put them in the shed with all the other decorations. My Dad is going to put them in the loft for me sometime this weekend, hopefully.

Other must-dos this weekend -

trip to the library for 'Day of the Triffids'. We have to read it by the 22nd for DS12's book group

buy a roller blind for the bathroom

tidy and organise downstairs (still haven't done that)

housework

Onwards and upwards...

Hope's picture

Back at home

Hi gals Smiling .

I've spent the last day at the kids place and have not done anything here at home. It will be a catchup day around here unless DH wakes up and comes up with some kind of run around plan. For some reason he's been suggesting shopping lately which is not like him at all.

I want to get my Christmas stuff into storage today. It's all sitting boxed and toted in the basement. It would be less confusing if I could get everything stored that is ready to store. Then I'd be better able to see what's left to deal with.

Next on my list for home renos is to pick a paint color for my livingroom and diningroom. The kitchen will follow. I need to get onto this soon, as all this painting will need to be finished before golfing season hits in late April or early May. Sounds like a ways off, but it will sneak up just like Christmas did. These main living areas of my house need fresh paint badly.

I would soooo love it if I could replace my livingroom furniture. It would make everything so much easier. Since we don't know for sure how long we'll be staying in this house, the practical person in me says to hold off on that. When I someday move to a new residence I'd probably want all new furniture again anyway. So for now I'll just have to work with what I've got, which limits my choices. Next home is going to be totally "uptown ecletic". Ever get that feeling of wanting to toss everything and begin anew???? Laughing out loud

Way to hop on the Christmas task Honey Laughing out loud .....just you wait until next week. Have I got a task for you!!!

Time to go and read some other threads. Later gals.

lgunnoe's picture

Christmas slippers....

I have "Christmas PJ's"....and realized that I've been wearing them in EVERY "Christmas morning" video we have for about the past 8 YEARS!!! Jawdropping! Its become a family joke! I refused to wear them this year, and bought myself a new red sweatsuit instead!

Well, we're home from CA. It really was a relaxing week for me. Of course, the BEST part of getting away (imho) is coming home again! We got in about 11:30 pm last night. The dds fussed over us for about 10 minutes this morning and then were off doing their own things...sigh. (At the moment, they're building a k'nex rollercoaster in the basement!)

I must get to the grocery store this afternoon, and do some laundry. My nails really need some attention, too. I gave myself a french manicure before the trip but now its looking pretty ragged. I'm aiming for just getting the old polish off. If I get new polish ON, that will be a bonus!

Sunday School and Worship in the morning. We start a series of long-range planning/goal setting meetings for the church tomorrow, too, so that will take up the biggest part of the early afternoon. After that, I'm going to get back on my system of using Sunday afternoons as time to plan my menus/activities/family stuff/priorities etc. My weeks seem to always go better when I have a clear picture of what's waiting for me!

I don't have classes on Mon. or Wed. so I don't have to go to campus on those days. Classes start on Tuesday...I'm ready!

Have a great week-end all!

Lenora

Thanks, Hope and Kerri for absolving me of my "lolligagging-guilt." Laughing out loud I really did need that "time-off," and took wild advantage of the opportunity to do nothing at all!

Hope's picture

Sunday

Morning all Smiling .

It sounds like you had a nice vacation Lenora, and you sure did deserve a getaway. You are actually sounding like you're ready to get back at it. You are inspiring for sure. Give *me* a little break and I want to stay there, and it's like pulling teeth to get me back to the old grind.

I did not get that Christmas stuff stored yesterday, but I plan to make it happen today. Instead I got side tracked by my kitchen. One of my SIL's gave me a huge colorful bisquit jar for Christmas, and I needed to find a place for it. It really needed to stand alone. So.....I reorganized all my countertop space, moving appliances etc to new spots, setting up a new coffee station and so on. It looks pretty good now, and alot less cluttered. Now I'll need to rearrange the upper cupboards a little to function with the new setup.

It could be a lazy Sunday here as we need to trip into the city to visit MIL, and there is golf to watch on tv later. I might get the Monday laundry started today if I remember. I have a couple of bills to pay online which will only take a minute. I really do have to try and get over to that post office more often to pickup my mail. My box gets so crammed full I can barely get the mail out of it. I think I'll make that one of my goals for this year. At least I'd have all the bills on hand when I went to do them and be able to get them done in one online banking stop. When the weather warms up I could even combine picking up my mail with some exercise. You know, WALK over to the Post Office(3 blocks) and get it. Or bike.

Ha! The mail would never get picked up. Laughing out loud

Time to sort up a load of laundry. Have a fun Sunday. Smiling

Hope's picture

Girly Missions

I just put a post into the New You thread about doing some self pampering this week. I figure I can build a dejunking componant into those missions. Whadda ya think? Want to do the treats this week? I'd only post them on the one thread though, so you'd have to go over there to see what they are. I could stick a dejunking reminder on this thread I suppose. Like

"dejunk dead skin...see New You thread" Laughing out loud

Hope's picture

Monday Morning Duties

Morning all Smiling .

Boy, the thread can get buried under all those news feeds real quick eh?

My Christmas boxes for storage are still sitting all over the basement. DH thought he could use his time more wisely yesterday by putting a new thermostat on. One that would turn the heat down automatically at night and up again in the morning. I'll see if I can get him to deal with the storage tonight.

Todays chores will be

laundry- about two loads

shower curtain- I had to get a new liner so I will garbage the old one today and replace it with the new one.

cupboards- I need to move the contents of a couple of cupboards to function better with the new countertop layout.

seasonal dishes- Christmas season stuff needs to be put away in it's storage box.

Round Robin- the house needs spiffing especially the livingroom, bathroom and my bedroom.

Closet check- I'm running out of hangers, which means I have too many clothes in the closet. I *know* I have a few things in there I could dejunk.

Shredding- I don't really care if I do this today or not.

Nap- it's Monday...I *have* to indulge.

Girly missions will be posted Mon and Thurs nights on the New You thread. Try and take them in, we all need to indulge and renew ourselves, and pampering should always be on our to-do lists.

It's breakfast next for me, then a rush to get my chores done so I can fool around Laughing out loud . Later gals.

Catching up

I'm just checking in to catch up with everyone. Haven't been around much lately. . .too much going on. I'm glad to see some of you are still on track with decluttering. My decluttering attempts of late have failed miserably. Kids finally got back in school last week and DS11 had 3 basketball games in addition to getting back in the groove so I just felt like I was twisting in the wind last week.

I did manage to get DH to haul off a horse trailer full of garbage. He took it while I was gone and left 3 bags sitting in the house. GRRRRRR! I had a couple of boxes of items I was saving to take to Goodwill or put in a yard sale but when I knew that trailer of stuff was going out of here, I just bagged the boxes and all in a dark bag and pitched it in. I couldn't tell you what was in those boxes, but I know I'm not missing it!

Thanks for asking about my Dad, Hope. . .in that message way back up there, ha. We were able to be with him at the rehab center over the holidays. He is some better but still in a hospital/rehab center for now.

Well, I think I'll go try to find a thing or two to throw away today. I'll get this mess outta here one way or another!!

Honey's picture

Monday.........

I have that Monday morning feeling and it's 5.15pm! On the agenda for this evening -

Grocery shop
Tidy, organise and clean entire house

A little ambitious, I know. Company coming tomorrow afternoon! I haven't hoovered since before Christmas and the place is quite untidy. I had all weekend to sort it out, and somehow I didn't.

Given the available timeframe, I think 'tidy, organise and clean entire house' might have to be changed to 'hoover and stuff things out of sight' Laughing out loud

I am so bad at this! I can't even keep up the everyday stuff, let alone extra decluttering. I think I'm still in Christmas mode.

Oh well, time to go write the shopping list.

Hi Fern, nice to see you popping in Smiling

Hope's picture

No screaming about pain

Girly mission is posted on the New You thread for Tuesday. Go ahead, dejunk those eyebrows.

Hope's picture

It's Always Something

Morning Smiling .

I survived yesterday! About 10am the motor on my furnace seized and I was without heat. I'm sooooo lucky our snap of cold weather had passed by and the new ones yet to get here. The heating fellows didnt get here until 4:30 to replace the motor, and the heat in the house had only dropped by six degrees. I was thinking it would get alot colder than that. I'm sure glad it didnt happen last week Shocked .

I kept myself moving all day and got a few things done, napping was not one of them though. I rearranged my kitchen cupboards and they're looking really good. I even found a few items to dejunk in those cupboards. I now want to tackle my big cupboard in the corner that gets really clogged up with plastic containers I save. I *know* I could dejunk in that one. Maybe tomorrow.

I got my new shower curtain on finally. I've needed a new liner in there for about six months now.

I only got 1/2 my laundry done so finishing that is a todo.

My Christmas dishes and serving pieces are all gathered up and in one spot. I just need to get them into the storage box.

I won't get to any of it until much later. First off I need to get onto that girly mission, then I'm off to the city to lunch out with DIL who is badly in need of a "get out of the house" excursion. When I get back home I'll finish up the jobs I've started, then work up a new todo list for tomorrow.

Ok then, gotta go. I have a date with my face Sticking out tongue .

Hello Ladies.

I think that I have finally developed a system which will allow for more computer time.
I came running back to the site as soon as I was able.
Coming back was made an easier decision when I received some mighty nice Christmas greetings and e-mails. (Thank You, so much.)
A whole bunch of stuff has changed since I last logged in here...
Including my log-in name. (Which was formerly Bronwyn.) Eye-wink
I have moved households again and well: the list just goes on and on.
I have a huge amount of stuff to catch up on here on the threads, I am sure. I will be reading up on that sort of stuff here in the threads. (I wasn't lurking ~ so if there is something that I missed of importance and I might miss it otherwise ~ please do fill me in!)
I did miss you guys ~ just one of those things/times.

Confessions...

The box containing my Christmas tree is still out on the living room floor. I'm waiting for DH to string it together for me, because I can't do it on my own. Not quite sure what my excuse is for the two boxes of delicate baubles and the Christmas sack that haven't found homes yet, but somehow I'm out of cupboard space.

On the upside... my desk is still pretty much clear and has been for over a week since the new computer was delivered. I clear it every night and so far it's been pretty stunning! I love it. I've been pretty good about general overall tidiness around the house... trying to get some things out of the way. I have a load of really nasty places that need thoroughly rearranging, but as long as I can keep spiffed I can worry about the rest when I'm more in the mood.

I think I've decided that I can't be bothered to decorate for CNY. There are a couple of red "Fu" character cushions out, but mostly because I needed their homes for the new Christmas cushions. That bought me some time until early February to figure out where the rest are going to go!

I feel like the buzz of enthusiasm for Spring cleaning and New Year blitzing is hovering somewhere at the back of my head... part of me wants to get on and recreate, but the majority wins out and I haven't yet found a project to give me the motivation to get started. Nothing new there. It'll come...

Everyone knows to duck when I start dragging out the IKEA catalogues from the last several years, but right now I'm just not interested!

I'm not sure whether I'm in the process of seriously decluttering Fern, so much as just showing up at the page. It's community rather than dejunking that keeps me coming back! Smiling

Odds and ends day

Morning everyone Smiling .

I've got several things on the go here that I need to finish up before I start a new to-do list. I've laundry to finish, Christmas stuff to store, and shredding to take care of. As usual, I have a kitchen to spiff up since I did not do it last night.

Good to see you Cari Smiling . Are you all unpacked from the move?

Kerri, your Christmas stuff had to have come from *somewhere*. Obviously you took it out then put other stuff into it's spot. It's that other stuff you need to find a home for. I get that spring cleaning feeling myself, though mine always seems to lead to painting.

Which leads me to the fact that I *hate* picking paint colors. I never, never, ever get paint home and dried on the wall and feel like it's exactly the color I went for. It's a real irritant for me.

I slept in this morning so I'm behind...better get crackin'.

Kerri's picture

Nice theory Hope

Except that the Christmas stuff came from one main cupboard and a few other spots, but then when I put it back in its new boxes, I moved some things around, and the main cupboard wasn't that big. Other problem is that the boxes stack nicely, but the shopping bags squished into small spaces better. I think the Christmas books will have to come out, or I'll have to shove it all along a bit and take up hatever space my CNY decorations normally use. The cupboards are all built in to a long narrow niche under the living room window, so although there are lots of doors, there's only one long cupboard, and a large part of it is buried behind the 3 seater settee which isn't quite far enough waay for proper organisation.

Short story - it needs some concentrated effort and I haven't found any yet! Smiling

The only stuff I put in that cupboard while the decorations were up were any decorative items I took away to make space, and intended to put back right away. Like a picture that gives up its hook for a wreath during Christmas, etc...

No danger of me feeling like painting. I haven't done any myself in about 10yrs, so I'm well out of the habit, and wouldn't want to bother doing it myself with a flat and two kids. It might get on my list of things that need doing next year, but recovering the sofas comes a long way ahead of that because I can see the stuffing! And they're only 5yrs old. My SIL reckons they've 'lasted quite well' - Singapore standards! But my eldest BIL offered his the other day, so we might bite his arm off on that one. Can still get slipcovers done, but his was recovered more recently and they don't live there most of the time. These were sofas we had done hen we were living in his place 8yrs back, so the construction is fine, just the outside is crap, and like I said, these have been recovered. Mostly plain dark green too, so they'd actually fit in as is, if we so chose.

Hello, my name is Kerri and my desk has been tidy for over a week.

thank you

Couldn't resist!

It makes me feel so much better. I did find myself admitting, in my morning pages, that I have a feeling the desk might start getting cluttered when I start transferring the files over from the old computer. Seems a bit far out, but it wouldn't surprise me. I shall endeavour to avoid that though. I can actually take photographs of the candles and rose on my desk without having to move more than one small pile of papers - stunning. I know I'm not the only one who has suffered from chronic, near-terminal desk clutter, so I know I have your understanding with how wonderful this accomplishment is. And i I focus on it for long enough nobody will notice that it is my ONLY accomplishment! Eye-wink

Baby steps, right??

Oh phooey

Now I want a nice clean desk. Thanx a bunch Evil !

I have to confess I have done absolutely nothing today and that could very well continue. I'm feeling nasty and very rebellious Sticking out tongue .

If I do anything at all I'll report back and boast.

I'm rushing today. Will be spending the day at the kids place with grandbabe. Must run and hop into the shower. Later gals Smiling .

Saturday

Morning all Smiling .

I *WILL* GET MY CHRISTMAS BOXES STORED AWAY TODAY!!! I'm determined. I can't stand all this stuff junking up the basement anymore. It's all over the rumpus room and in my craft area. I have the boxed tree sitting beside me here in the office. I can't even think with this mess let alone get on with house projects.

I can't imagine much else happening here. I still have yesterdays pampering mission to treat myself to then we're out to play for the rest of the day. Going golfing and out for supper.

I was browsing an organizing site this morning and now I'm in the mood to toss things out again. Just glancing around this office I see things that could go. And my closet....I never did get around to that. It could do with a good purging.

So there's my plan for next week.
office-dejunk it
bedroom-purge the closet
kitchen-dejunk my storage container cupboard and candle cupboard

Fern, do you know I still have that darn dead tv sitting in my basement? I really thought I'd be rid of it before you ditched your recliner but there it sits. It's getting to the point where I don't even see it anymore.

Ok, I must go and have some breakfast now, then I have a date with my legs Laughing out loud .

Christmas is officially over......

.....now that I have put the last of the decorations in the shed. I have a man coming over next Saturday to lay boards in the loft (my Dad and brother started the job, but it got complicated with electrical wires in the way and so on). He is also fitting me one of those pull-down ladders, then I'll be all set. LOADS of storage space Smiling Smiling Smiling

I am planning to unpack the last of the boxes in my room this week, then that just leaves DS' room to sort out. This evening there are a few tv programmes I want to watch - I am going to jump up and do a quick chore every time the commercials come on! I'm surprised sometimes how much I can get done just in the commercial breaks. For instance, I can empty the washing machine, run upstairs with the basket of wet laundry and get it all hung up on the clothes horse! Unloading the dishwasher and putting it all away is another chore that seems to take that amount of time. I'll post later or tomorrow exactly what I got done in the breaks Smiling

Hope's picture

So???

How did the jumping up all evening go Honey? Laughing out loud

You are so right, you can get things done during commercials. IF you remember to get up and do them. I've often thought I'd do something during a commercial break then forget about it until the commercials were almost over.

My Christmas decor is still sitting here. DH got up too late yesterday to deal with it before we went out. It WILL happen today. I am not going to go and visit MIL today, so hope to get caught up on a few things around here. I don't really have much of a plan for today other than to store these boxes. I'll have to report my tadas later.

Good job finding a way to get more storage space Honey. I love those pull down ladders. I've never poked my head up into the attic in the garage. It just never occurred to me. I'll have to ask DH if it's useable storage space or not. I know he's been up in there to do wiring. On the other hand, I don't exactly need more storage space. What I need is to get rid of some more stuff and make better use of the space I already have.

Did I mention I dejunked an entire skin and a coat of fur doing my girly mission yesterday? Also used up a ton of moisturizer Laughing out loud . I have a silky smooth butt Cool ! Pretty sad when one is impressed with the feel of their own rear end Sticking out tongue .

Gotta go have a puter game fix now...later gals.

Famous last words

I had forgotten all about jumping up in the breaks until you just reminded me, Hope! Am I useless or what? Laughing out loud Memory like a sieve.

Today I spent, on and off, about 3 hours on the phone to my mother discussing

a) my forthcoming renos (Mum, Dad and brother are helping)
b) my Auntie's depression and if we can help
c) how my Mum can improve HER life (she has many many calls on her time and is very stressed)

Then friends turned up and I have spent the evening convincing a naive but impressionable 12 year old girl (yes, I said a *12* year old!) that all the kids at school who say they are having sex AREN'T, and that despite what they say it isn't 'just a bit of fun' (her words). Plus some details about disease, labour pains and crabs, just to emphasise it a bit more Eye-wink I can't believe all the pressure etc from peers is starting so young. SO GLAD DS12 is home educated now.

So an eventful day kind of, but one in which I don't seem to have achieved much. Friends (who came unexpectedly at 3.30pm) have just left (9.30pm). Lovely to see them, but the house is very calm and peaceful now Smiling I finally get to eat my dinner which has been in the crockpot since noon. Disintegrated Chicken, my new speciality Laughing out loud

I have to run the dishwasher, write to-do lists for tomorrow, and curl up with a book if I have time. I'd like to be in bed by 12, if I can manage it.

See you tomorrow!

Monday + Misery

Hi gals. I was waiting for someone to go and find the thread Laughing out loud , but when it seemed that was not going to happen I thought I'd better ressurect it myself.

I woke up this morning at 5am with an upset tummy. I put myself back down on the couch and woke again about noon feeling better. I made the mistake of having a cup of coffee and my acid stomach is back.

Trooper that I am (HA HA), I'm struggling along upset tummy and all. My washing for Monday is just about finished. I even washed two coats, and mended the pocket in one. I'm only *doing*, when and as long as I feel like doing anything.

Are you finding any stuff to dejunk as you go through those boxes Honey? I just want to say that I think you should have gone ahead and had your supper even with friends there. You did offer them some and they refused. I'll bet the 12 year old daughter would have had some even if the parents did'nt.

Hello! My dryer just beeped. Must go hang things before they wrinkle. Later all Smiling .
