I added some of Olivia and John Douglas.
I've been puttering in the kitchen this afternoon and made some marshmallow creme. Yum! Got the recipe off the internet. Since we're budget-challenged right now, I thought I'd give it a try and use it for: fluffernutters (althought it's not exactly fluff), easy bake cakes, and topping for hot chocolate. Olivia and I just baked chocolate easy bake cakes in the girls' oven (a Christmas gift) using a homemade mix also found on the 'net. I also have a recipe for chocolate syrup. However, I am out of corn syrup at the moment. Oh well. (The kids like chocolate milk.)
The marshmallow was a bit challenging without a candy thermometer. It seems to have turned out all right even with my inexactitude.
Is that a word? I need to get a good quality thermometer (some day!).
Drinking caffeinated tea this afternoon too, so a bit buzzy right now. All out of decaf. tea bags! Oh nooooo! I just can't live without iced tea. Better switch to ice water before I end up on the ceiling.
Somehow I have to come up with a menu for next week that uses the contents of the cupboard and freezer. It CAN be done! Better check out that "more with less" cookbook link for future purchase.
We didn't homeschool today (playdate day) and the weather's nasty so I didn't get to the library. Cold and grey and wet outside. However, we already have lots of good books on the shelf from Christmas that we haven't read yet. No doubt there is something to dig into tonight. We finished our Beatrix Potter collection and my 7yo enjoyed them.
Okay, back to the kitchen and talk radio. All Things Considered comes on in about thirty minutes...gotta get my current events fix. Tuna Patties and Broccoli Salad tonight. Yum again!
Signing off...
