It was just Christmas day that I commented we have done pretty good parenting for eight years, never making a trip to the emergency room!
Oh bother why did I say it out loud! I took baby Quincy to the emergency room last night with a fever and lethargic. She had been sleeping for two days only eating little ammounts with a lot of effort to keep her awake. I chalked it up to a growth spurt until the fever hit last night.
Of course it was Friday night, of course she was with a babysitter while we took in a basketball game and of course I weaned her two weeks ago. Argh, the guilt!
Six hours of waiting, blood and urine tests and IV to hydrate and nothing seems wrong. Just a virus they said. Because the Childrens hosptial is about 45 mintues away DH and the boys came with and got a hotel room across the street to be near by if needed. Quincy and I left the hospital at 5 a.m., walked across the street and plunked into bed. She's all better now.
That is the last middle of the night during flu season emergency room visit I ever hope to make!
My favorite part of the evening was during the second failed attempt to get an IV in her tiny dehydrated veins, the nurse said "Won't she take a pacifier?" I said "not now, she isn't stupid!" Like a pacifier will make her forget needles are poking into her arm!
Alls well that ends well I guess, she put us through a scare but is cooing and smiling now and none the wiser or sleepier! No rest for her weary mom!
