Happy Near You!

We woke this morning to an unexpected and very heavy (for Portland) snowfall. The girls were delirious. The neighbors closed off the nearest hilly street and we all trooped out into the snow to go sledding, though Louisa decided sledding wasn't all that. Josie, on the other hand, skidded down the hill til her feet were so cold she couldn't feel them and had to go home. So Lou and Daddy built a snowman in the back yard and now we're all sitting by the heat vent getting warm and dry in nothing but our longjohns. Hope your new year is as peaceful and fun as ours has turned out to be!

Coldest winter in years

Submitted by Lynn on Fri, 01/02/2004 - 9:45am.

This is the coldest it's been in at least five years and we've got more snow on the ground even today than I can remember in so long. The family across the street, who are a smidge higher up than we are, made a HUGE snowman, about eight feet tall. (They have five grown sons, all of whom still live there--Afghani family--so feats of strength like that are common over there. Smiling ) It rained last night and both the snow giant and our little snowman lost their heads. Sad

But mixed snow and rain are in the forecast for the next week and Sunday night apparently we're hopefully going to have a huge snowstorm or, less hopefully, a huge ice storm. Cross your fingers for the former, because if we get the latter we don't have a fireplace and if we lose electricity we lose heat, and the high's going to be around 20.
