hmm, i just selected every single category that has to do with my life, but perhaps that was overdoing it. Yet all these subjects came up today:

Teens, Education, Homeschooling: my homeschooler is trying to crash a class at the local public high school, and although we have every right as "taxpayers" for her to attend, all the b.s. that goes along with their bureaucracy makes you have second thoughts! She thinks it's so funny that the teacher admonishes the kids to be quiet and keep their hands to themselves, stay in their chairs, etc. She's been going to independent classes and community college classes for a year now, and no one ever talks like that. Yet this class is supposed to be this really creative interdisciplinary math class that people vie to get into... had to do an "audition" like it was a broadway show! Maybe it will turn out to be inventive and cool... right now she's just mesmerized by the social scene. They also gave her three hours of homework last night...what on earth? If they spent more time in class doing math instead of worrying about the baby stuff...

On the elder care front, my mother is now getting hospice care through her insurance and MEdicare,w hich is a HUGE relief. She had to be in a nursing home for 100 days before that could eb covered... of course one can pay out of pocket ot the tune of thousands of dollars a day, but since we aren't part of the Bush family, that's impossible. My frustration is that she was ELIGIBLE for hospice six months ago, but the insurance plans can't accomodate people's real life dying schedules.

Anyway, I'm finding out what really lasts in people's characters at the end of life, and in mymother's case, it's her sense of humor. She has this very dark humor that is so acute and revealing about what she senses is happening to her life.

The happy parts of course, are cooking and sewing. Starlene and I are hosting a stitch and bitch on Saturday, and then on Sunday, Kimi and I are doing our clambake that we've threatened to do for years. A real clambake on the West Coast! I've never even been to one on any coast.

Sewing wise, I have fabric and patterns coming out of my ass, but I must finish a couple things like my pink satin robe that I've been doing free embroidery all over. Black embroidery, hot pink kimon. Black grosgrain ribbon trim. I look like a Parisian spoiled kitten in it.

It's relaly time to make fall and winter clothes, but in Santa Cruz, our Indian summer is just starting. It's boiling hot, and the alst thing I want to do is cut wool gabardine.

I'm very excited about Starlene's baby preparations, and my shower gift was the most ridiculous: a large screen TV. I should really be ashemd of myself for passing it on. Jackie and Shar are ecstatic b/c they want to watch Hurricane Frances as large as possible.

Okay... organic.... well I have just got the best roasted tomato recipe ever... makes any icky tomato into a dream tomato, and it makes perfect tomatoes into ambrosia. You cut them in half, toss them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar/salt and pepper. Then roast at 200 degrees for four hours or so. The resultin gtomato is flavorful beyond compare. The sauce you make will have guests screaming for more.
