Yep, I polished off the first four Harry Potter books this week. I read fast, plus I've been flat on my back with this cold; it was nice to have the diversion. Once I borrow #5 from my friend, I'll be completely caught up.
I resisted reading them for such a long time, I think, because I wanted to read them with Josie, but now that I've read them myself I think they're still a year off for her. And I was also a bit hesitant I confess because everyone is so cuckoo for them. I mean, the fuss people make, these books better make you toast and do the windows.
And while they don't do that, they are really good books. They truly deserve the "modern classic" distinction. JK Rowling has done a difficult thing; she has told a rollicking good story in simple, clear, clever prose. But I don't think I'll be hanging around at Borders at midnight in a pointy hat for the release of #6 when the time comes. Then again, I am a huge fan of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" films and I haven't seen "Return of the King" yet, let alone wait in line for the first midnight showing dressed like Arwen (as if--any resemblance stops at the hair). It's just not me. But I'm glad to have joined the fans of Hogwarts. What a fun world she's created.
So now Honey is the last person in the English-speaking world to read them, not me! Better catch up, Honey!
