Pell Grant came i

Submitted by Jennmommy5 on Tue, 08/10/2004 - 3:56pm.

well hello all hope this all finds you doing well.I read some of your post and am glad to hear of Jamies baby girl and of Dannas adoption moving along.I hope your son is in your arms soon!It was good to see post from Susannah and many of you others that I think of often.
My news is that today I got a call from the community college and found out i was awarded a full pell grant to go to school wich will cover all my tuition books fees ect plus leave me with a refund of about 800 dollars this semester and about 1200 the next three semesters! doesnt seem like loads of cash but to us it is alot the way we are struggling I can catch up some bills and give my september and october birthday babies some good gifts!
I go to orientation on Aug 17th and start classes on the 18th.I am so excited about going to college.I got my ged in the mail the other day and I was so proud of the little decroative diploma with the graduated with honors stamp on it.It feels so good to be a graduate finally!I know I shouldnt have waited so late in life but Im happy that Im getting it done. Its already doing great things for my self esteem and I feel like college courses will only further that. After my first year I can take the state board exam to cut hair do nails ect. I will continue on to finish my second year for an associates and it will stack with my 2 years of funeral directing for a batchelors degree in Funeral science.
I plan to work either cutting hair in a salon or doing hair and make up in a funeral home to work my way through the last 2-3 years of school.
My husband is now more aggressive about his disability applications so maybe I wont HAVE to work so hard and can just do it part time for extra cash.
The kids are doing great and the homeschooling makes me happier than I could have imagined. DH splits the hours in half with me and has so far been very good about doing so.It makes it alot easier and my son is responding so much better than he did public shcool. I would welcome any tips tricks and products that have helped any of you homeschoolers.Writing a lesson plan seems to be one of the hardest parts so far.
Well I love and miss you all and will let you know how it is going soon.Take care.

Jen -

Wow! You go girl! You are really making a lot of progress! I am so proud of you! I can tell already that you will be a success at whatever you take on - 4 kids, homeschooling, school, work, your husband's issues - you are coping with a lot and still keeping your chin up. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Slow and steady

wins the race remember... I know how these sudden bursts of enthusiasm often go with me, and I know how often things just don't pan out properly when my attention wanders. So try to keep your focus, keep up your energy levels in the healthiest possible ways, and and try not to be a superwoman.

you CAN have everything you ever wanted, but it's nearly impossible to have it all at once.

you sound very happy and I'm thrilled that you're doing something so important for yourself. Don't ignore my warnings of doom, but do take them in the spirit in which they are intended. I want for it all to work out well for you and your family, and not fr you to overextend yourself and burn out. So just take it easy ok! Smiling

Lesson Plans!

Submitted by lgunnoe on Thu, 08/12/2004 - 5:32am.

First congratulations on joining the TNH "College Moms!" I'm also in school, Zillah is just finishing (or has just finished) her PhD, Marcie is in school somewhere, too, (miss you Marcie!) JennyE is probably going back this fall.....

Finances are second only to the time away from the family as "obstacles," so I'm excited for you about your grant!

On the lesson plan front, if your state/local organization does not have a required format...I think the most basic (and easiest way) to write lesson plans is to follow the Systems Theory format:

input-------->process---------->output

Input= What are you going to use?
Process= What will they do? (avoid using the word "learn")
Output= How will you determine if they have mastered the lesson?

Example: "Using manipulatives and flash cards, student(s) will memorize multiplication factors of 2 for numbers 1-12, and be able to recall those products using randomly organized flashcards in a timed test."

There are also lots of lesson plan formats available online...you could probably google it and find something better that will work for you!

Much love,
Lenora

I didn't see this back when it came up because I have been online spottily, but congratulations on your GED and Pell Grant! I knew you could do it!
