Let These Guys Know that Breastfeeding in Public Is LEGAL

Lynn's picture

A Columbus, OH woman was repeatedly harassed and intimidated for breastfeeding in public at Wyandot Lake:

New mother Amy Watson-Grace says, "I was humiliated, intimidated, embarrassed.  My daughter was frightened."

Watson-Grace says she was repeatedly asked to stop breastfeeding her 4-week-old son during a weekend visit to Wyandot Lake after a security guard told her someone had complained.

"He said he had to protect his patrons from indecent exposure, and that's when I went on my soapbox about how breastfeeding is not indecent exposure.  Look around you, there are people in bathing suits baring far more flesh than I am," says Watson-Grace.

Eventually FIVE SECURITY GUARDS surrounded her and her baby, scaring her little girl, and she had to call the sheriff! Have to protect the patrons from that four-week-old pervert, after all.

If I lived in Ohio, I'd build a pool rather than go to this place. If you want to tell Wyandot Lake (which is a Six Flags park) what you think of its tactics, here's the contact info:
Wyandot Lake
10101 Riverside Drive, Powell, Ohio 43065

What about all the fake breasts?

Does the park allow fake breasts to be used in the park? Why isn't anybody ever incensed by all the women holding fake breasts out in public view of everyone? All those nipples hanging out for everyone to see. Babies sucking on those fake breasts in plain view. I'm surprised they haven't caused heart attacks in the weak and feeble!

Yes, I'm being facetious that we allow bottles (fake breasts) to be used and fondled in public, but not discreet nursing.

Har har!

That's funny!

The nursing police are only making themselves an embarrassment.

Again: sickos.

Here's a great cartoon

titled "Guess Which Public Parenting Behavior Has Come Under Attack?"

It's brilliant. It slso echos my sentiments, exactly.

I did call

both the number for the Lake and the Corporate Headquarters in Oklahoma. I got voice mail, so I left a message about the issue--I was, if I may say so, well-reasoned and insightful. Bet they just hit "delete" though. Couldn't find a number for their corporate headquarters in New York (they have two HQs)

The contact info I got for Oklahoma is:

Six Flags Inc
11501 Northeast Expressway
Oklahoma City, OK 73131
Phone: (405) 475-2500
Fax: (405) 475-2555

There are a number of advocacy groups that she could appeal to. I wonder if she has.

Shall we start a letter writing campaign and bury Six Flags? Another woman in Ohio has complained of being told to stop breast feeding at a Six Flags, too.

I would like to know how peop

I would like to know how people think our ancestors ate before bottles. That is what God intended for us to do with them. How someone can find bad in a precious baby eating is just crazy.

Ohio is now the next state as

Ohio is now the next state as of this month, to pass legislation allowing women to breastfeed in public! Before, establishments could ask them to leave or go somewhere out of sight, now they can't. This just recently passed.

Unbelievable

I can't believe this is still an issue!
My son will turn 8 in August. I breastfed, often in public, for 18 months in three different countries - Italy, the US, and Canada. The closest I ever came to being "harassed" was on the train from Milan to Vicenza. William was about a month old, and I was using a cotton blanket to cover myself. I was taking great pains not to offend the well dressed Italian businessmen in our compartment. One of them told me to take that blanket off!! Don't suffocate that baby!!
When we moved back to the United States, we were fortunate enough to be stationed in New York state. NY was one of the first states to consider breastfeeding to be a civil right. I *heart* NY! Boo hiss to Baba Wawa and her uptight ilk!
