Weaned

Danika weaned herself on November 30th! We had spent several days with Frank's parents for the holiday, and Danika was quite busy being the center of attention and playing with her cousin. Several times she wanted a cup of milk in lieu of nursing when it was nap or bedtime (the only times she still nursed), but then at the last moment she would still ask to nurse. But the night we got home, after Frank had gotten her into her jammies, when I went up to nurse and rock she pushed me away and said "No! Daddy!" She went to bed without nursing. The next day, when I said, "Time for nap!" she started to cry and said, "No snackies, Momma." I said, "You don't have to have snackies if you don't want to. I'll just rock you." The was it. She never asked again. A few days ago, she told me that I have snackies and I said, "Yes, I do." She then said, "See em?" So I showed her and she looked for a minute and then she said, "All done." She's 21 months old.

Wow. How easy was that? This coming weekend I am visiting my friend Wayne in Canada for TWO WHOLE DAYS and nights ALL BY MYSELF!

I'm still trying to convince Josie that nummies are done (they are, but she's nostalgic).

i have yet to have one announce 'all done' -- though a friend of mines 2.5 yr old did that a couple of summers ago (he said the milk was too hot LOL)

Ian insists he still nurses even though he really forgot how more than a year ago and even now will take only a stab at it about every 6 wks or so. I was doing my belly cast last week and he came over very concerned about how they would nurse w/ my nipples covered in plaster. Smiling

I for one am mostly glad Chance is done. He is 15 months now and pretty much self weaned. He quit trying to lift up my shirt about 3 weeks ago on that last before bed feeding. 14 months is the longest I nursed any of mine (other two were 10 and 11 months). I miss some of the snuggles, but I DO NOT miss the biting and blood, and it's nice not to be completely tied down to him.

But, it's a little bittersweet. DH says 3 kids are enough, so this was my last baby more than likely. Which means my boobs are done with that purpose. Kinda sad. But, DH is glad they are done and "his" again. LOL!! Well, not quite yet. Laughing out loud

She is 3.5yrs now but she was 28mths when she weaned. I was 7mths pregnant at the time and it hurt so bad. She just slowly stopped asking. I sometimes ask her if she wants a sip and she says, "No ma'm, it's nasty" I say, "Why is it nasty?" She says, " It tastes like strawberries." Me, "I thought you like strawberries" She says, "Not warm, juice ones!" LOL I almost peed on myself when she said that!

My Sophie weaned at 28 mos., mainly the effect of lots of summer traveling preventing much nursing, but at nearly 5 she still likes to pat 'em every now and then. (When she really tries to cop a feel I tell her they belong to me and they're private, so no touch-ee!) If I had made a special effort to keep it going that summer, she'd probably still be nursing today! She absolutely never said "no thanks" to num-nums.

Little Iris, now 9 mos., I worry about making it to 12 mos.! She is just not as enthusiastic as Sophie, and I can't imagine we'll ever get to 2 years. She's also more of a biter -- never a big problem with Sophie -- tho luckily she's never drawn blood!

Anyway, enjoy the freedom to leave town! I did the same thing right after Sophie weaned -- took off up north for a women's yoga weekend. Stayed in a B&B all by myself -- even ditched the group and went to restaurants by myself. "By myself" -- what a wonderful concept!!

Although I don't nurse much beyond 14 mos. (so far). We usually get it down to one bedtime feeding then. This is my last baby, so maybe we'll go longer this time if she's still interested by then!

Emma's starting on rice cereal this week. Smiling

Maybe....Maybe Not....(for now, anyways)

Since I got pregnant in December, my milk supply has dropped so low that Amber went from eating almost nothing (literally) a day to eating half of a plate per meal and snacks inbetween (and I mean MY plate...not hers!)

But she hasn't given up on nursing, yet. She still won't call it anything (just tugs on my shirt or goes to the rocker where we usually sit) but she still requests it several times a day.

However, she is willing to cut nursings short and move on to other things, and lately I'm able to distract her longer times between feedings. She's gone 4 hours between lately (it used to be two or less...even at 16 months old!)

So, I'm not sure if she'll comepletely wean by the time the baby comes (August 20th or so) or not, but I'm interested in seeing how it plays out.

For now I'm planning on tandem nursing since Amber has always been so abdamant (sp?) about it...she may be one of those toddlers who weans and then goes back to nursing once the baby comes and milk returns...

Who knows? We'll have to wait and see Smiling

question: is this normal?

Submitted by Sweetpiv on Sun, 04/04/2004 - 7:41pm.

Ok I nursed until Hannah was 18 months and she is now 28 months. I forsibly stopped nursing her. There was a lot going on and she just did those drive by nursings except at nap and bedtime and I began to resent the "velcro" baby effect. It was rough thouse first few days so I figured I would let her touch them but not nurse, what did I know. Fast forward to now she still likes to touch them. One hand down my collar and into the bra and her index finger and thumb gently roll my nipple back and forth. Mostly at nap time but I catch her sneaking her hand down there a few times during the day. "Hannah, what are you doing?" "Hannah hold ninnies, peezze?" " No No Ninnies go bye bye" and she stops. But it isn't just me, she will put her hand down any shirt any time male or female. I gently but firmly tell her no. And I have been telling her no for months now. I imagine she's going to be 18 with her hand down my shirt. Is this normal?

Nursing

Congratulations! You're lucky you were able to nurse for so long. I wasn't able to nurse any of my kids for very long. I nursed Angel for 3 months, but she never nursed well, mostly cause she was always sick. I nursed Elizabeth for 2 months, but then I got really sick from the Crohns and dried up (which is odd for me). I was told not to nurse Daniel at all, because my dr wanted me to go directly back on my meds, but I nursed him for a week. I wanted him to get all the colostrum, and antibodies. Now for my odd thing. Other than briefly when I was sick with the Crohns, I have never dried up. Daniel is now 13 months old, and I'm still producing milk. I can still squirt, I've got so much. Same with Angel. I produced milk from when I had her (August of 1998) to when I dried up from the crohns (October of 2001). I think in a past life I was a wet nurse. I actually produce more milk than any child could drink. One of my nipples are inverted, so I've only ever nursed from my right breast, and I NEVER DRIED OUT. I could nurse every 3 to 4 hours and nurse them full, and still have a full breast. I'm just wierd
