Spirited Away

As we were last night! We watched this excellent Japanese animated film, about a little girl who accidentally stumbles upon the spirit world with her parents during a move to a new home. Her parents are enchanted by eating food left for the spirits, and the little girl, Jihiro, must find courage within herself to set them free from the spell. The animation was beautiful! I think there are some cultural differences that don't make the translation in these sorts of films, so it's fun to jump in with both feet and go for the ride. Smiling I don't know if it's suitable for young children. I might let my older girls see it. 2yo J.D. was up accidentally for just a few minutes of it (after falling out of bed and not settling down), and at one point during a scene with a fire-breathing witch, he stated calmly, "Scary." He didn't seem upset by it, though, and went right back to sleep.
