Death of a Superstar Whale

Honorary Oregonian Keiko the whale has died: Keiko, who's been living in a Norwegian fjord entertaining the locals for the last couple of years, died Friday of pneumonia. It was quick, the vets say. Keiko was about 26, which for a captive orca is ancient; wild killer whales live to be 35-50 years old, but in captivity they usually die by age 25.

I have to confess to an evil thought, though, upon reading that they weren't sure what to do with the body. The following haiku appeared in my brain:

superstar whale dies
how to dispose of Keiko?
paging Paul Linnman!

So old Willy is finally free. Bye, Keiko, we'll miss you.

Keiko's funeral

Submitted by Becky on Tue, 12/16/2003 - 5:46am.

I was at a party last night and we were discussing this very subject. One of the other guests said that Keiko had been given a "secret" or private funeral. Another asked how a funeral for a killer whale could possibly be kept secret. Inspiration (and another evil thought) struck me-- I said that there really was a conspiracy to hide Saddam Hussein until an opportune time, and we "found" him right when we needed his hole to put the whale in....
