Christmas music?

What is everyone's favorite Christmas CD? I'm listening to The Gift by Jim Brickman - nice music, though it is too short. I was considering getting Let it Snow by Michael Bable (sp?) but it is also short. Hmmmmm.

HonkyTonk Christmas

George Straight
Merry Christmas, Straight to You
Patty Loveless
Bluegrass, White Snow
Reba McIntire
The Judds
and I have a couple of various artists ones I got at a western store when you buy so many pairs of Wranglers.
And of course we jam to "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" whenever it comes on the radio. LOL!!
right now, I have the satalite on channel 829, which is the classic country channel. They have been playing some Christmas music.
No surprise there!
Jenny, it doesn't surprise me!!
And I say that with a lot of affection and a big hug! I actually like the Judds and Reba myself.
Country Christmas
I was given a Country Christmas LP as a kid, and I remember it being so bad that one year we put it on as a single, at the speed for a single and couldn't even tell we'd made a mistake until it stopped rather more quickly than we expected... because of course it had only started halfway across. Can you imagine not even being able to tell when you've put an album on at the wrong speed??
Not that I think all country music is that bad, just that particular album was really rotten.
One of the nicest I have is a Worship album with the leader being Don Moen for anyone familiar. I have a couple with very old recordings of people like Dean Martin and Bing Crosby, a kiddy one and a choral one which is a bit dirgy.
The ones I'm itching for are Charlotte Church, Cliff Richard, Carly Simon. Not sure what else I fancy, but that's a pretty eclectic mix. The problem I find with Christmas albums is that you don't want the same old, same old, but at the same time you don't want your favourite carols to be updated so you can't even enjoy them any more.

I have lots!
One of my favourites is 'A Very Ally Christmas' which is a compilation of Christmas songs which were sung in the Ally McBeal TV programme. We also have lots of childrens ones, including the Smurfs! Each year I look out for Christmas songs I haven't already got. I have a classical Christmas album which is lovely.
I want the Cliff one too, Kerri, and my Mum is getting the new Elvis Christmas Peace album, so I'll be taping that.
One of last year's aquisitions was 'Mambo Christmas', a cheapie CD I bought which gives a mambo treatment to the usual Christmas carols and song. Tacky, but somehow catchy!
Hhmmm??
Elvis of course. The 24 CD "If Everyday Were Like Christmas". It plays on and on forever.
Vince Gills first Christmas CD was great. It's the only one I've heard. I love that one.
Natalie Cole has a nice Christmas release.
The great claasics by Bing and Frank and others are always nostalgic bests.
What I did not enjoy....Stevie Wonder singing Christmas tunes!
organ
I love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
I have noticed that hardly any stores are playing music,,unlike they used to
I am sick sick sick of being PC ...we are so worried about
OFFENDING anyone that we are doing nothing
The Chieftans!
I've got their Bells of Dublin CD, one of my favorites. I also have a tape called "Baby's First Christmas" with songs sung by Kelly Willard. The instrumentation is so nice on that one, and there's a song about Mary singing to her little King that always chokes me up!
All my other Christmas music is old, like the Carpenters and Amy Grant's first Christmas album (on tape--it's about worn out). I was just thinking today I'd like some new Christmas CD's. Charlotte Church sounds nice and I'll be looking out for other ideas people post.
stores playing Christmas music
Funny you should say that about "PC," Kitty-- we don't really celebrate Christmas and I've been hearing Christmas music ALL OVER the place. Not that it offends me, since it is pretty, but definitely it reminds me that I am in the minority religion-wise!
The King's College choir CDs are good for all music, including Christmas.
Must be all in the mind set...
I haven't been in stores, so I don't know! Thank goodness for the internet.
Just came on to say I *love* King's College Choir.
Guess I'm a traditionalist.
Christmas music in stores
I noticed the other night as I was shopping that there was Christmas music playing, but it was all "Santa please bring me...." type of songs--very greedy. I felt like the store was just using the Christmas music to get people to buy more stuff! I like a lot of the Santa songs, but some of them are just soooo greedy sounding and too many in a row can definitely feel that way.
I also love the Mormon Tabernacle choir. And my husband always had to listen to a complete rendition of Handel's Messiah at least once during the holidays.

Susannah, I think I'm listeni
Susannah, I think I'm listening to the Kelly Willard one now! I think it's her at least. Yep, Integrity Music with a cute baby ont he front "My First Christmas". You're right about the instrumentation - it really is nice. I wouldn't mind trying the Chieftains though... didn't know they'd even done one. I guess almost everyone has.
I've also been thinking about the Messiah and the other choral ones. I've had so many problems with choral dirges though that I get a bit uncomfortable unless the price is really low. Most of my better ones have been gifts (the Kelly Willard one was for DD's first Christmas from her godfather). I thought this might be the year I'd take the plunge and get a new one, but it just wasn't meant to be... I've been looking! One of the things I enjoyed in college was the opportunity to sing an amateur concert of Messiah... if anyone ever has that kind of chance, grab it with both hands! I also loved the Christmas carol concerts in Canterbury cathedral... all lit by candles, the centre of the church in England and one of the most well-known churches outside of the Vatican. If I got nothing else out of my time at that particular university that would have been enough!
Kerri.
Our current favorites
Yes, Pagans can like Christmas music.
Christmas Favorites and A Child's Celebration of Christmas are our favorites. The former contains all the old familiar Christmas tunes sung by children and grown-ups in sweet, fun arrangements; Santa makes an appearance with much ho ho ho-ing. The latter contains tunes by famous people, including two of my absolute favorites, "Little Saint Nick" by the Beach Boys and "Jingle Bells" by the Singing Dogs. It just ain't Yule without them Singing Dogs. T'is a brave album that mixes Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" with Tish Hinojosa's "Arbolito" and Gene Autry's original version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." If anything, the "Child's Celebration" album is my ultimate Christmas collection.

Christmas Music
Two fabulous reasons to LOVE Akron in the winter:
"Tuba Christmas" (big event, with about 350 musicians (yes...tubas) and free to the public
AND
the "Messiah" sing! Take your choir, take your kids, or go alone and sing that glorious anthem with about 500 others!
This is actually the first year we haven't done at least one of them!
Lenora
music concert
I just got back from DD band concert,,,pretty and cheery
I think I need to shop in different stores so I can hear some music!! maybe I am just tuning it out because I hear music alllll day at my work.[ not Christmas ]
Becky I could even go for just pretty music,,doesn't have to be religious
Forgot Wee Sing for Christmas...
Which I think I bought at a yard sale some time ago. My children want to hear nothing else while riding in the van! I try to switch tapes on them and get a chorus of protest.
We've got tons!
We have the "classics", Sinatra, Bing, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, then there are the Muppets with John Denver (personal favorite!) and Charlie Brown, along with the Wiggles and Sesame Street, then there's Gary Hoey, Aaron Neville, and some odd rock compilations that I'm not quite sure where DH dug up. We also have a bunch of the requisite classical pieces, such as The Nutcracker and Messiah.
All this music to choose from, and what does my 3 year old want to listen to over and over (and over...)? "I want a Hippopotomus for Christmas"! It was okay the first 4 thousand times...
musica
I hear Andy Williams today,,ohh so nice
wee sing!! I have about 8 wee sing videos,,,great to entertain and teach,,some of my favorite videos
grandpas magical toys
good night
little bunny foo foo
John Denver
I think it's called "Rocky Mountain Christmas," but can't remember for sure because it's in my car. It's got the sweet tune, "A Baby Just Like You" and the very un-PC "Please, Daddy, Don't Get Drunk This Christmas" which my kids love to belt out in the car! I also really enjoy Vince Guaraldi's "Charlie Brown Christmas." One of my kids' favorites is Raffi's Christmas album with the fun "Must Be Santa."
