Rainy Day in Alabama

Well, we woke up to rain once again! I shouldn't complain; it's what makes the veggies grow, you know. It has slacked off now, so maybe it won't be raining when it's time to take DD to preschool in an hour and a half. Probably not my luck!

We will be getting ready for our post placement visit this week. It is Wednesday evening. I plan to do a good WHB on Tuesday and other than that, just FLY as usual.

Today's PODA:

* Work at office 9 - 12
* Find out about DD's two field trips this week
* Grocery store for two items forgotten on Saturday
* Laundry
* Get photo pages copied at Kinko's for post placement report
* Call Turning Point regarding donating my old cell phone
* Just keep it all going & together!!!

We had a pretty good weekend, I suppose. It wasn't too hectic, just enough activity to keep DD from being bored.

Y'all have a good one. I think I hear DD stirring!

Vonnie

Susannah's picture

Y'all get all the rain.

We need some over here. It always looks cloudy first thing in the morning, then the sun breaks through.

Last night was not fun. Emma woke up a couple of hours after going to bed. I knew she wasn't hungry (three squares yesterday, plus nursings, plus nursing to sleep), I dosed her with ibuprofen, sang to her, patted her...but in the end she cried herself to sleep. It was so pathetic to see her sitting there sobbing, rubbing her eyes, nodding off, then remembering she was supposed to be screaming. The day at the park really tired her out and she was just overwrought. Poor baby! After that she slept until about 6:30, I think. She was really tired.

Oh yes, I'm supposed to be doing my weekly home blessing. At least I'm dressed to shoes (bed's not made, though).

Love ya!

hi flyfriends!!!

I just popped in for a second and want to say thanks to everyone!! Alexa has been such a good baby, she slleps like 2 1/2 to 3 hours at a time and rarely cries. she is a champ at breastfeeding. dh has been home all week last week and this week so we will see what next week has in store for us. i absolutely love being a mother though. noone could have prepared me for how much love i feel for her. Ok enough mush.

im glad you guys checked out the albums. i have lots more pics to download, maybe today. i am the typical first time mom taking pictures of her every second.

Have been keeping up with the laundry pretty good, and running the dishwasher and making the bed, but thats about it. Im trying to take it easy and to sleep when she sleeps.

well just wanted to say thanks for all the well wishes. Have a great day flyfriends Smiling Love Jackie

Happy Monday!

Just popping in for a lunch break. I'm halfway through the grasscutting ritual. Wheee!
Jackie, bring on the mush! There's never enough of that, nor are there too many baby pictures. I'm glad that you and Alexa are doing well.
Joanne, I love Ottawa! DS6 and I will spend Canada Day in Ottawa again this year. We're meeting up with my brother and his family. No-one throws a party like Ottawa does. Well, the party in Calgary tonight will surely come close Smiling
Cheers everyone!

Winding Down

Well, another Monday is winding down here. It's 4 p.m. and I actually have a decent TADA list today.

TADAs:

* Worked at office
* Found out about DD's two field trips this week
* Laundry
* Called Turning Point regarding donating my old cell phone
* Got rugs rolled up and carpet cleaners picked up
* BONUS TADA: Freezer sealed 6 packages of chicken breasts (on sale this week, buy 1 get 1) and 1 package of porck chops
* BONUS TADA: Ironed clothes for me for rest of this week
* Got in touch with social worker and moved visit time back to 4 on Wednesday afternoon so DD can make choir practice on Wednesday

Still to do today:

* Grocery store for coffee filters, milk and pull-ups
* Kinko's to make copies of photos for post placement visit
* Tonight's menu: Hobo dinners, rolls

I feel pretty good about today. I am usually lacking in energy on Mondays, but today I did pretty well for a change. I just read a book on leading a balanced life and they suggested making goals for each area of your life. My biggest neglect is the area of self care. I need to eat 4 small meals a day to keep my energy up (I sometimes only eat dinner!), take my vitamins and supplements, complete my skin care routine morning and evening, and take better care of my hair. So, I'm going to work on that this week.

Lists, lists, lists. Oh, Joanne, the Stampede sounds like so much fun. How I wish I could take a vacation! We are planning to go visit friends in Missouri the week after the 4th of July. I'm looking forward to it because we're going to fly so we won't be exhausted from driving all that way. We got our tickets right before the prices went up because of petroleum prices.

OK, I'm gonna run for now. Y'all have a good one. If I get a chance, I'll check back in here later.

Vonnie

Becky's picture

lists and more lists

I make lists too, I just don't always carry them out.

I started reading The Woman Millionaire Next Door last night at Border's. It seems that DH has the profile of the first Millionaire Next Door book (which was mainly about men, not intentionally but because that was who responded to their surveys), and I have the profile of the Woman Millionaire Next Door, except for the bank account balance. Is anyone ready to send us a million dollars?

Amee, for a treat some time (anniversary is a good time), take your sheets to a pro laundry and they will feel like new. Any dry cleaner that does shirts should do it.

I was channeling Emma and Emily last night, apparently, because my legs were killing me and I ran out of ibuprofen, so I was up until 5 a.m. and then slept until 2:30 p.m.

Now I am watching junk on television. Home Shopping Network. I've never actually seen it before. It's about what I expected. I think it's funny that they keep saying, "I don't think that you could get this anywhere else," and I know exactly where to get whatever it is, of equal or better quality (although, to be fair, their prices are pretty decent, if I were in the market for any of these, which I am not). Now they are advertising some pretty boxes, which my sister has.

OKAY! So, PODA for the rest of the day:
-make a syllabus for myself for my music studying for the rest of the summer
-make sourdough pita bread
-27 fling boogie
-find something substantial to eat for breakfast/ lunch
-take out the trash
-reboot laundry: put away whatever has dried, and hang up the rest of the wet stuff to dry
-actually vacuum upstairs, which I didn't do yesterday

Susannah's picture

So, how do you make pita bread?

How do you get the pocket in it? Just add that to the list of all the dumb questions you've ever been asked. Smiling

We got some of your weather, finally, Vonnie. A pretty good downpour with a bit of thunder following. DH got all the sprinkler heads installed regardless.

Jackie, awwwwww! We love mush, bring it on! We know exactly how you feel. Smiling

I have been la-Z! today. I searched the 'net and read a book and folded some laundry and boiled some diapers and I just got through making supper, which I loved & the children didn't. That's about it for today. Didn't even do WHB. I am such a BAD flybaby.

SO....
Tomorrow I get back on the wagon. WHB, homeschooling, bills, etc. I am without excuse, as I am stuck at home anyway without the van and ought to be doing my duties here.

Also, tomorrow is my 13th wedding anniversary. DH will not tell me if he wants to do anything. My mother has offered to babysit, but I am not going to call her at the last minute. If he doesn't make up his mind tonight, I'll tell her we don't need her. I'm not much in a celebratory mood anyhow, and baby doesn't do all that well without me. Wherever we went would have to be close by & brief.

I know I'm not a Woman Millionaire in the making. Millionairesses are probably not this lazy.

Sleep tight, y'all!

Love,

Susannah

Wallpaper Blues

Hi all!

Thanks for all the good wishes about my brother on the last thread... It really helps Smiling

((Rose))--hopefully your husband will stay put or come home, and avoid the Middle East! You're in my thoughts Smiling

I have been keeping up basic routines, while stripping the wallpaper in my bathroom for the past few days/nights. After about 8-12 hours of solid work, I still have several stubborn patches to go. AAARRRGGGHHH.... It's really driving me nuts. I really should just have a margarita and be grateful that we HAVE a master bathroom now!

We're leaving for a trip on Wednesday, and I still need to pack and clean, plus do my "pre-trip checklist". I'm doing better than pre-Flylady, but I've got a ways to go Eye-wink

What I really want is to go to bed. DS3 has been up and upset for about a week because of the (almost) nightly thunderstorms.

Will check-in next week when we get back. Happy flying!!

Good Morning! Susannah, I

Good Morning!

Susannah, I was wondering about Shaun and Karin myself. YooHoo...anybody out there? Come out and play!

PODA
vacuum second story
return books at library and get more(finished Handmaid's Tale)
aldi's for groceries
BJ's for pullups
take DD3 to park between above errands
dinner
no homework!!

I will reiterate what Becky said: YOU are not Lazy, you may be exhausted, but not lazy,Susannah

Tomorrow is Ds last day of school, want to do something special.Any ideas?? Last year I drew a huge chalk banner on the driveway that he saw when he got off the bus.

Sunday is my new niece's baptism and party at SIL's afterwards. Need to get DD something dressy to wear. Hate to buy something like that that only will get worn once,oh well... DH's bday is Sunday as well so I need to buy a gift for him and a baptism gift for baby. Better add those 2 things to the rest of my week's agenda.

Getting some perennials this weekend to put in the front bed and then I can call it"done" for now. What a difference from the tangle of weeds when we first moved in. I get such satisfaction whenever I walk by it.

Have a great day everyone.

Heidi

Vonnie's picture

Morning, Morning!!

It's a beautiful start to a hopefully-beautiful day here. We're not supposed to have rain today- woohoo! DD is really wanting to get in her pool. I'll have to clean everything up while she naps, because DH cut the grass Saturday and didn't put her toys, the mat leading to the pool, etc. back up - surprise, surprise!!

Tomorrow at 4 is our post placement visit, so I have some serious straightening to do. I'm not going to bust anything trying to have a spotless house, 'cause frankly that's not how we live day-to-day anyway. The house is basically clean, but you can most definitely tell a 4 year old lives here!

Today's PODA:

* Work at office 9 a.m. - 12:00 noon
* Rugs should be brought back cleaned today
* Sweep and mop floors where rugs go before they come back
* Unload dishwasher
* Laundry
* Pick up photo pages at Kinko's after noon
* General straightening up in all rooms; there are about 3 hot spots!
* Check my flychart and tweak it where it needs it (I try to do this every quarter just to keep it relevent)

I posted some pounds to the fling section on flylady.net! I purged DH's old uniforms that were holey, stained, etc. He just got in his new ones for this year & there wasn't room for 4 weeks worth of uniform shirts in his closet! It looks much better in there now.

In my decluttering venture this month, I need to clean out/up the following areas:

1. Cabinets above washer & dryer; shelves in laundry room
2. DH's sock drawer
3. DD's closet in her bedroom
4. Playroom wardrobe (time to rotate toys)
5. Playroom closet
6. Storage room - ugh! I'll need DH's help for this one; it's awful!

Well, I hope you guys have a great day! I need to go get moving and make sure DD is ready to go to preschool.

C-ya!

MommaM's picture

I'm here.

I had a way busy week last week. When I don't post for a few days, it's kind of strange jumping back in. So... I'm going to jump back in.

I just get really overwhelmed sometimes, and the last two weeks were like that. Very difficult. Too much to do. I've been thinking about "decluttering" my commitments. But some of this is end of the school year hassle, too.

BUT, I did do a big scrub down of the kitchen, haven't caught up of folding laundry yet, but have kept the sink pretty clean. So, starting with baby steps. I will read back on your posts today to get re-inspired.

Good news last night! My SIL called and they finally got the call to go pick up the baby they are adopting from Korea. Yeah! My boys can't wait to meet their new cousin, I can't wait to see their house out of order. They've been married over 10 years and are very strict about order, I think they go a little bonkers at our house. We'll see... They've already been bombarded with toys from well wishers. Ha ha ha... it's only just begun. Smiling

Well, I WILL check back in today. School gets out next week. YEAH!!!!! No more dragging kids out of bed in the morning, getting them ready, driving to school. Sure, more mess, but my massive declutter of junk continues. I have some junk out, I just need to get rid of it. There's no way I'll finish during this challenge, but I'll keep plugging away.

Later--Karin

Happy Anniversary Susannah!

I hope you have a lovely time at Red Lobster tonight. I will join in on the chorus of chastisement for calling yourself lazy. Even the Creator took a day of rest! Sometimes you just have to recharge your batteries.
Thank you, JoannaC, for the positive thoughts. I'm a pretty seasoned Army wife, so this year of separation isn't too difficult for me. Modern communication tools (email, webcams, cell phones) make all the difference in the world.
Joanne/Lark .. ouch! I really thought the Flames could pull one last trick out of the bag in the last 10 minutes of the game.
There's always next year!!
It is a beautiful warm, windy day here. Two loads of laundry are flapping in the breeze now!
Time to do a little grocery shopping. Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Good Afternoon!

TADA
bought pullups
returned books(checked out White Oleander)
Aldi's
thrift store(found DD a pair of dressy shoes for baptism for$1.50)
lunch
sorted mail

PODA
dinner

DD is napping so I may start my new book. Thank God for libraries! We would be in serious financial difficulties if I bought every single book I wanted to read. Not to mention all the videos, computer games, children's storytimes and programs...all free...gotta love it!

My mom is going to a huge garden nursery sale Thursday. This thing is so popular that people line up at 6am to get the best choices! They have it once a year I believe. I gave her a list of perennials I would like so I hope to pick them up Thursday afternoon or Friday evening. Then I can stick them in the ground and be done with that front area of my house.

Karin-good to "see"you. We all can relate to crazy weeks, especially as school winds down and summer approaches. Sounds like you got alot done amidst the craziness though.

Vonnie-hope your home visit goes well, what kind of things do they look for post adoption? Just curious...

Well ladies, I am going to stretch out on the porch with a lemonade and a book.

Catch you all later.

Happy anniversary Susannah!

So, yesterday's TADA:

-laundry thing
-syllabus thing
-started sourdough pita bread (it takes a day and a half or so to rise)
-27 fling boogie (the trashing part, not the giveaway part)
-ate 3 meals (a big achievement)
-studied (listened to CDs)

SLUG:
-didn't take out the trash
-didn't vacuum upstairs

Basically I skipped the ones that involved stairs/ elevators!

PODA:
-take out the trash!
-vacuum upstairs! It is SO hard to get motivated to do this, but the singer Rob has been using has allergies and it's really important
-finish the sourdough pita bread
-make cookies or cake or something-- for a plain yellow-type cake with frosting and M and M's on top, what is the best substitute for vanilla? I have rum, Kahlua, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I would use Kahlua but DH is not crazy about coffee-flavored desserts; would it be too coffee-ish?
-study

Nothing Like Motivation!!!

I have been procrastinating cleaning up for our post placement visit. Well, lo and behold, we got a call from a lady who wants to come look at our puppies tonight. She will be here in about an hour, I am guessing. So, I am taking the opportunity to go ahead and get the house spiffed. I just finished the bathroom, which was the MAJOR job. It looks 1000% better. Why do I always procrastinate doing it & then it is horrible!!!??!!

Now, I need to do the dreaded floors!! I am going to do a quick dust and clean little DD fingerprints off the glass top tables. Then, I'll sweep and do a spot mop to get up the worst areas. I will concentrate more on floors tomorrow after my rugs are back & DD is down safely for her nap.

Nothing like motivation, huh?

Vonnie

Susannah's picture

Hi!

Joanne, I'm really glad to hear you are following orders and taking it easy. I sure hope you get better soon.

No anniversary dinner tonight...DH has a sinus headache. He has the worst sinus problems. Oh well! I made supper, but it didn't go over well with the kids, as usual. I'm working on some peach cobbler right now. Thanks for wishing us well!

Heidi, good going on the shoes! What a great deal.

Becky, I'm the same way with vacuuming upstairs. Lugging that thing up there is no fun.

Well, Vonnie if you've "narrowed it down" to 22 pictures, that's pretty good evidence she has a safe, loving environment with very proud parents! Smiling

We did math and June calendars today, but I was interrupted by a sudden lost-hamster crisis and we didn't get to language or thank-you notes. I have really, really got to finish the notes at least tomorrow. Last night we read two chapters in Treasures of the Snow and I can tell Anna Kate is hooked already. We read another Miller story for Olivia and she paid very close attention. This is a step forward, normally she doesn't appear to listen. I guess it's right at her level.

I forgot to mention the sad passing of Daisy, the hamster, the other week. The cat got her. DH brought home a new one, Buster Brown, named after the Buster Brown that went to the pet shop in the second litter. Elias never got over the fact that we gave away "his" Buster Brown, so this is the intended replacement. However, he had it out and left it unattended today so he's apparently too young to be handling it yet. The pet shop owner said this one's a female. We shall see...

Tonight:

*Pay bills
*Fold laundry

Glad you checked in, Karin! Yay, on no more school! That makes it easier on you...at least, I hate having to meet deadlines all the time and get places on time.

Have a good evening!

Love,

Susannah

Morning

Hi all!

JoAnne, scary! Hope you can rest up.

Happy Late Anniversary Susannah. Bummer that you couldn't go out - I'd hold him to it for a later date.

Well I worked MOnday and Tuesday and today is appt. day. Unfortunately DS7 is having a lot of trouble with his allergies so am also trying to deal with that. He may not go to school. Have a dentist appt. for him, lunch with a friend, and a haircut for me. May have to cancel dinner plans with friends???

Hi Karin - glad you are still checking in - it does help!

The Day I Look Forward To

Is today. I am not scheduled for office hours. Woohoo! I will have to run by there to notarize a document, though. The other notary just quit & they are in the process of getting two others notarized so that I won't be the only one. But, they won't get their seals until next week.

So, today's PODA:

* Take DD to field trip and help drive children back afterwards (only 8:30 to 9:30)
* Run by my office to notarize document (hopefully on the way to field trip!)
* Clean floors - sweep & mop; vacuum rugs in DD's bedroom
* Get rugs put back down when cleaners bring them this a.m.
* Laundry
* Touch up house before post placement visit
* Figure out something quick for dinner after p.p. visit
* DD has Kid's Choir practice at 7

So, I have a busy one in store today. I have showered, put on makeup and fixed my hair, but I'm not dressed yet.

Yesterday's & this morning's TADAs:

* Cleaned up bathroom top to bottom
* Laundry
* Dusted, cleaned glass tops, put things away
* Just general cleaning up

Well, I need to go make up DD's bed, get dressed and then be out the door around 8. I want to do that notarizing on my way to the field trip so I won't have to go by later when more people are there & I am more likely to be stopped to do something.

Y'all have a good one. I may not be able to check in until this evening after choir practice. But, keep on flying, gals!!

Vonnie

julhome's picture

I do the same thing,

Vonnie, I stop by my office at the college at 7:30 a.m. The automatic locks are open on the doors at that time, so I don't have to mess with swiping my ID, yet no one else arrives until 8:00. I can usually sneak in, work a little with just the light from the window, then say goodbye to the one lady I pass on my way out. I suppose they see my car in the parking lot when they come in, but they don't know I'm leaving so soon, so no one bothers me immediately.

Nice to see you, Andrea--good luck with your hectic day...remember, early August??!!??!!

This has been meeting week for me. The first 2 weeks of the month are polluted with them. I hate them because, in this more-rural-than-not area, it's more efficient to kill time after work and then go to the meeting. To go home first would mean maybe only an hour at home (at the most) before going back out again, so it's usually not worth driving 30 minutes each way to get there. I hate leaving the house before work in the morning and not getting home till bedtime. There's my little rant for the day.

Next week is VBS at my church. I'm in charge of the kitchen. We'll feed at least 100 people snacks each day. The snacks are based on the curriculum, so each day the snack is representative of the lesson and Bible truth for that day. Bananas and cookies and peanut butter crackers were so much easier, but the director wants me to do what's in the book (with some adaptations, if it makes it easier), so that's what I'll do. I need to make my lists tonight and start shopping tomorrow night. This will be my only night at home, since tomorrow night I'm killing 3 birds with one stone: take my nephew for his belated birthday dinner, shop for VBS snacks, then attend his mother's candle party when I take him home. Another one of those days...see, and I said the rant was over. I lied.

Sorry, gals. Maybe I'll go start an attitude adjustment thread. And I thought I was in a good mood today...how did this happen? Puzzled Maybe if I actually DID flylady it would help, ya think?

Romper Room hellos to everyone!

LoisDenominator's picture

Good morning, Ladies

I've been keeping tabs on all you young women, even if I haven't posted much. Your endless energy exhausts me, just reading about all you do!

After eight months of insisting he wanted to live in my late mother's house, my DS22 admitted that it makes him too sad to be there. So now I have the daunting task of emptying out all the contents, making some updates and repairs, and selling Mom's house. We were going to leave the contents for him (dishes, towels, small appliances, etc), but now it all has to be disposed of. Sigh.

The kids want some of the stuff, like antique furniture, but our house is small, and I don't relish the thought of paying $100/month storage for a few years. So I'm flinging in my house to try to find some room. No one here except me wants to part with anything. Sigh.

So I guess you know my PODA for the next few months.

Susannah's picture

Oh, Lois, that's hard.

My heart goes out to you. I hope it doesn't take you months. At least there's a Super Fling Boogie going on, for moral support.

My morning is already lost due to inaction on my part (I'm not going to say the "L" word). So, I've got to marshal my forces and figure out what I should do first. I need to get lunch, no. 1. I need to call a friend about this weekend's trip to Charleston, no. 2. For some reason, I'm dreading it. I'm always shy about calling long-lost friends. But it would be a shame to be in the area and not see her if I can manage it.

Wish I could convince DH to come with us. We'd be much happier (and safer) with him along. I don't know why on earth he won't go, or what he has to stay here for. Maybe he just wants to call his time his own, rather than being stuck somewhere for two days. But who wouldn't want to spend a day at the beach with one's family? The longer I'm married, the less I understand my own husband.

I'm not whiny, really. I'm just sad, for some reason. Time to paste on that smile! Big grin Things are not so bad, really. It's just an emotional thing.

Lunch is bound to perk us all up.

Love ya!

Susannah

Becky's picture

my DH!

He hides from the beach. But that's because he has red hair and burns very easily. (I know, I know, we live in a city with "Beach" in the name, but we live at the other end from the actual beach.)

The pitas turned out fine and hollow but took 20 minutes to bake, not 10.

Yesterday's Ta-da:

-took out the trash!
-studied
-finished the pitas

PODA:

-I haven't managed to get myself to vacuum upstairs yet. Maybe I'll be able to force myself today.
-Visit a friend in the hospital-- she'll be okay, it's not life-threatening, but she needed IV meds for a couple of weeks
-Go to some kind of business-type dinner for DH

LoisDenominator's picture

Thanks, Susannah.

Thanks, Susannah. I need to set my mind to get moving. Sure wish I had some help from folks here, though.

Re husbands: My DH won't go anyplace with me, unless visiting his family is involved. So if there's anything I want to do or see, I go without him. And I have a lot more fun.

Cari/Bronwyn?

Vonnie's picture

Good Morning Everyone!!

Thursday, Thursday.

The word here today is "Maintenance". I got the house looking A-1 yesterday, so now I want to maintain, at least for a little while. I tend to do this about once a quarter; that is, clean up really well because someone is coming over, then keep it in fairly good shape for about 2 weeks, then back to the norm.

Because I had things pretty much done yesterday, today's PODA isn't very long:

* Take DD to preschool
* Work at office 10:00 - 1:30
* Go give blood at 2:00
* Make menu plan and grocery list

Hopefully, I'll make it home from giving blood well before DD so I can get a little nappy. I actually got one yesterday & I felt so much better than I normally feel in the afternoons. Every time I've tried to give blood in the past, my temperature would be elevated & I couldn't give. I think I get apprehensive & that's why it goes up. I'm not afraid of needles, I'm afraid of passing out from the draining blood part of it!

OK, I'm gonna run now. I am actually dressed, hair done, makeup done BEFORE getting on the computer. Woohoo!!!

C-ya later!

Good Morning!

Yesterday was a really good day. had a new friend and her 2 kids over to play outside with Dd3 and me. We set up the slip and slide and bubbles, chalk, fingerpaints, etc all out on my back lawn. The kids had a blast. DS arrived home from his last day at around noon and we all ate. While Dd napped,DS and I played Monopoly and I putzed around a little(reading, dozing). took Ds to WalMart to pick up a couple things and then I went to a committee meeting for LDA. We are planning a community awareness event at a local shopping mall this October.

Today's PODA
go to Mom's to pick up my perennials
plant them today if weather permits
buy baptism gift for Sunday
make Father's Day cards
laundry
dinner

Days will be open now that DS is home but routines at their most basic will be maintained. I want lots of time for Summer Fun!!

See you all later.

Haven't heard from Cari here

I've been wondering about her too. Let us know if she turns up, Lois!

I have so much to do today that I really haven't any business being here. But, I need to write a list at some point. My TA DA's are:

*Made chore charts for children last night (I've attempted this before but didn't keep up)
*Went to homegroup shopping trip last night. It was fun! We took a friend shopping for maternity clothes.
*Cleaned up mini-Chernobyl of pancake syrup. Somehow, it exploded into the farthest reaches of the house. Carried on 2yo's body, no doubt. Good Morning TNH

I have had a hectic two days! There are a couple things I want to share with you girls.
First, last night my DD got into my makeup!
Susannah I can soooooo sympatize. I had a makeup disaster. DD put red lipstick all over herself and my bed! She did leave me kisses on my wall!! I thought she was in my room watching tv with her brother but her brother was in his room! Oh well, she and the walls have cleaned up rather well, lets just hope my sheets and blankets do to.
Last night, I was loading the dishwasher as I was making dinner and my DH came in to make a pot of coffee. He decided to wash out the coffee pot. As he's cleaning it he sprinkles some salt into the pot.
I asked him what that was for he said, "To clean it better". I said,
"Oh I use baking soda and vinegar" He said, "I know but this is what my website FlyGuys told me to do!" LOL I could not stop laughing!!!!
I actually had to put my hands on the counter I was laughing so hard!
He looked at me with a straight face and said, "What only your allowed to make our home better!?" I eventually had to leave the kitchen!! LOL I think the thing that made me the happiest was that he actually noticed our home staying clean!!!
For the last thing, WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!!!
I am going to try to post some pictures! I'm not sure if they are small enough, we'll see how it goes!
Our moving date it July 20th!!
Still packing and Flying! I hope you all have a good day!!

Susannah's picture

Woohoo!

CONGRATULATIONS! This is so exciting! Can't wait to see your pictures Amee! Your DH is hilarious. Smiling

I'm just checking in, in the midst of folding and putting away laundry. Had to take a nursing break. I've done the job charts with the kids. It's going to take a while to get them down pat, but we (mostly) did the work willingly. I am so encouraged! This looks like it will work, if I take it in baby steps. I had to walk them through it, but they were not ornery about it.

What I did was to write down all the normal tasks that we do in a day, just basic stuff like making lunch, wiping the table after meals, unloading DW, etc. Then I labeled each task with the name of a child, according to ability level. Then I went online to a cute little website where you can custom-design a chore chart with your kid's favorite characters. I did one for each child using Nemo, Thomas, SpongeBob, and Lilo & Stitch. They are really cute! I printed them, put them in sheet protectors, and hung them on a metal ring with my routine sheet. Now we can check them off as we do each task. I hope the jobs will become habits to the point that we can discard the charts someday. I also took my Weekly Home Blessing list and assigned those jobs according to ability level. Those are on the charts as well, but will only be done once a week.

Finally, I have assigned a Helper to each day of the week. Since I have four Helpers, and seven days in a week, three of the children help me twice a week. The youngest, J.D., helps me once a week. The Helper is supposed to help me make dinner and do laundry, and just generally help as needed. That way, I hope to train them all to use the washer and dryer and eliminate arguing about who helps in the kitchen.

It looks like I may need to take a break from formal homeschooling for a couple of weeks to help them learn their jobs.

I sure hope this works. I really need help around the house. I'm not doing well trying to keep up with it myself, and it's high time I taught the kids to do a little bit more than the "clean their room" bit. Last night, when I met my friends at my home group leader's house, I saw their 5yo daughter sweeping the laundry room, and that helped inspire me. It made me realize what they're capable of. Right now, my older daughters are making PB&J's for lunch! Whoopee!

I just went and checked. It's pretty much chaos! LOL! I think they need to be walked through this too.

Love y'all,

Susannah

Hi Flyfriends!!

How is everyone? We are doing well here in babyland. I spend most of the day nursing her and staring at her. Today she has been a little more active, feeding every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I know this is so off topic of flygirls but maybe a experienced momma can help me. My pediatrician and the hospital had me feeding her 10 minutes on each side. We were doing well with that but then I read to feed at least 20 minutes on one side only, that that is where the hind milk is?? So today that is what I have been doing but she isn't sleeping as well, only 1 to 1 1/2 hours at a time where every other day she was sleeping in 3 hour stretches. Maybe just an off day it is so humid and hot here. Sorry off topic.

Susannah, Happy Anniversary!! Sorry you didnt get to dinner, We love red Lobster:)

Amee, congrats on the house. Best of luck to you.

Hi to everyone!!!
A quick tada:
~went to hospital to give labor and delivery nurse a gift certificate. she was an amazing nurse to have with us.
~sorted through my winter and summer clothes. I have clothes everywhere and nothing is fitting yet Smiling
~made a healthy breakfast for Dh and I
~took Alexa for a walk
~emailed my district office thankyou for baby gift
~sorted through old magazines in den
~having friends over at 730pm to see Alexa try to STAY AWAKE Smiling

Have a great night everyone. Love Jackie

Jackie, With my two

Jackie,
With my two I always nursed as long as they liked on one side and then did that for the next feeding, alternating every time. It accomplishes several things including making sure the hind milk is getting to them and emptying the breast to prevent painful engorgement. Some friends used to pin a safety pin to the bra strap of the breast they just nursed on so they could remember which side to nurse on next time. But you can usually tell which breast feels more full and nurse on that side. Hope that helped. Good luck.

Heidi

witchiepoo's picture

Jackie

I did the same as Heidi, only I couldn't ever remember which side was last until I started not hitching it totally back up.

Susannah, Great idea with the job chart! I did that with my guys, and it did take quite awhile to train them, but boy did it make a difference! They are so, so helpful now, and they understand that we all make the mess, so we all clean it up. It really is worth the time. DD3 can pick up her room pretty well, and she is also really good at folding towels.

Not flying much today, just trying to maintain. Tomorrow is my last day of work and crazy schedules until late August! Yippee! Whoo-hoo! Happy Dance!

Have a good one friends!
-Jo

Shaun's picture

Hey Ya!

Jackie, I did what the other gals said: as long as she likes on one side. I agree, where is the hindmilk if you are switching so soon? When baby is older she can get to the good stuff faster, but not at this age. And you might have tons of milk right now!

Here's a question for you: how's her poop? Laughing out loud After a few weeks of nursing on both sides at one feeding I noticed that DD1 (as a newborn) was having green poop, like grass green. Was a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance -- that is, not enough hindmilk. That's when I remembered that for simplicity's sake I had fed DD5 (as a baby!) from one side too.

Just peeking in in the midst of making my favorite lemon bars. Tons to do tonight -- having a Creative Memories party tomorrow. Just me and about 4 of my favorite friends -- more of a crop.

Starting this weekend I am going back to the beginning of Flylady and babystepping back into some good habits!! I can't handle the chaos -- we got home from vaca (see journal) and now everything is all over the floor.

Just a general hello to all, would like to say more to each but must keep moving! Go check out the pictures of my babies!

I'm Not Cheating!

I am up, showered, and makeup on. I'm letting my hair dry naturally, so my hair's not done and I'm wearing a white blouse today, so I'm not dressing until time to leave. I have learned SOMETHING as a new Mom!!

Yesterday, I gave blood -- my first time ever. It took them some doing to find a vein, but finally the right arm was chosen. I had no idea that the needle for that was so big. I am a big girl when it comes to needles, but Lord this one hurt! I didn't flinch, though, and the lady even commented that I didn't have any change in expression. Shoot, I was too afraid I'd move and make it hurt more! Anyway, I filled my bag in 7 minutes. They said I was a blood-giving-machine!

Woohoo! My house is still clean. It is a lot easier to maintain than have to clean, clean, clean! Why can I not remember that and maintain all of the time? I only have 1100 square feet; you'd think this wouldn't be that hard!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I have tomorrow all to myself. BIL's oldest son is here visiting for a long weekend; we never get to see him. BIL is also getting his youngest son and is taking them to the amusement park. BIL is on a cane now (skydiving accident - two broken legs), but he wants my DH to bring DD to sort of help him out a little. DH is reluctant to go; partially the cost and partially just not wanting to go. I'm hoping he'll take DD because 1) she will LOVE it and 2) it will give me some time to swap out toys in her playroom and go through the three bags of clothes DH's cousin gave us last weekend. The house is clean, so I won't have that looming over me & could really concentrate on these "tweaking" type of activities. But, I'm sure I'm just hoping against hope. DH is not very energized these days & I doubt he'll go. Maybe I can at least persuade him to take her to the park or somewhere to give me an hour or two.

On another family note, MIL's birthday and MIL and FIL's anniversary is Sunday. We're having a family lunch, then the whole bunch is going to a beautiful historic park here to have our photos made because it's the first time we've all been together in years. I'm hoping MIL will choose a casual to dressy theme because it will be so HOT at that time of the day. Even if it's dressy (i.e., she always thinks women should wear dresses or skirts with hose, etc.), I am going to go without hose and wear a flowered skirt I have. That may actually be cooler than capris or pants anyway. I told DH not to forget to come up with the gifts for his mom & dad. I told him last year that we are responsible for our own family's gifts. It's just not fair to leave it all up to me, then turn the nose up when I pick something he says he wouldn't have. So, if he doesn't do it, they just won't get anything.

Yesterday's TADAs:

* Played in pool with DD after my Mom brought her home
* Did some laundry
* Worked at my office 9:15 to 12:45
* Gave blood
* Called coworker out on maternity leave to check on her

Today's PODA:

* Work at office 9:00 - 12:00
* Laundry
* Make a plan for tomorrow if DH commits to amusement park
* Put puppy ad in our local paper
* Deposit my paycheck in credit union

Y'all have a great day!

C-ya!

Susannah's picture

Yes, skip the hose!

I gotta agree with you there, Vonnie. So glad the styles have changed. I hope you get the time you need to do that sorting. I hate sorting clothes with little ones around. Well, I hate sorting, period!

Welcome home, Shaun! That sounds like the best kind of vacation, relaxed and fun.

We're taking off today for Charleston, just for the weekend. I convinced DH to go! Yay! It'll be so much more fun with all of us together, and I feel more secure with him around. I don't even know if we'll get to the city-proper. We're going to the Isle of Palms beach with my college roomie, and maybe to a baseball game, if she can wrangle tickets for all of us. Turns out we're going to spend one night at her house, too! That will be fun, and save us the motel expense. I also got ahold of my other friend and I'll probably meet her for lunch on Sunday.

So with that in mind, PODA:
*Job charts
*WHB
*Pay Bills
*Mail Attendance Reports
*Pack Suitcases
*Empty/refill ice trays
*Dump ice in cooler
*Pack van

I'm not going to bother vacuuming the van, since I'll need to do it when we get back.

Last night (TA DA) I went to Wal-Mart and got snacks and a couple of sand pails, etc. We got through the evening jobs pretty well, and I'm amazed at how much nicer it is to have helpers. Smiling Even having to walk them through the jobs, it seems easier in a way.

Off to start the charts again.

Love,

Susannah

OT, for Jackie

I was a "one side at a time" nurser, too, but never quite managed the saftey-pin on the bra-strap trick. (Actually, unless going out, I rarely wore a bra. Shocked ) I had a thin bangle bracelet that I moved from wrist-to-wrist to remind me on which side she should nurse next.

Blessings,
Lenora

Tigerlilly's picture

hi flygirls!!

thanks for all of your advice. I started this morning nursing her for 20 minutes on one side. Does the hindmilk still come even if I stop after 10 minutes to change her and then go back to the same breast? Only because sometimes she falls asleep after 10 minutes and changing her wakes her up. As you can tell I am totally clueless and my angel baby basically taught herself what to do, she latched on within 10 minutes after she was born and has been great at it.

Shaun, her poop has been good, mustard colored and seedy like the Dr said, but she is only 13 days old. Maybe she is too small to notice the imbalance of foremilk/hindmilk yet.

Vonnie, I hope you get some time to yourself tomorrow. Sounds like a fun day for DD too.

Jo Woohoo on your last day of work. I am actually loving being home. We shall see in another month, but so far I am enjoying my baby and my time off Smiling

Not much flying today:
~made a healthy breakfast for us and took vitamins
~1 load baby laundry washed, needs to be dried and put away
~gave Alexa a sponge bath and got her dressed
~I showered by 930am (I would have never considered this a Tada a year ago lol Eye-wink
~going to mall with Dsister and niece to get out for an hour. Hopefully she will sleep, yesterday I ran out for a 1/2 hour, when I came back poor girl was screaming her face off. Poor dh was trying to find anything with a nipple to quiet her down. At least he stays calm though, not like me I cried I felt so bad Sad
~made bed
thats about it, but thats enough for me these days Smiling
HAve a great day everyone Smiling
Love Jackie

PODA out the window

My four year old baby girl has the chicken pox. Sad
About 1 hour after she got up she was covered in bumps. So I took her to the DR this morning and they said YUP its chicken pox. She feels fine actually she is excited! She is walking around the house clucking like a chicken and saying "Yeah, I have chicken pox"

I had plans to hang out with my sister tomorrow but now I can't because, ssshhhh don't tell anyone, (whispering now) my sister is pregnant! Im going to be an aunt. She is very superstitious so she isnt calling it anything but her grain of rice! :)She is only 1 month along!!

Anyway, I hope you all get a lot done, Me? Oh, I will be up to my elbows in oatmeal baths, and calamine lotion!

Tigerlilly's picture

I missed your post Lenora

Thanks, that is definitely a great idea since i am the world's biggest spaz and Jackie with a safety pin around baby = ouch!!!
I am going to use the bangle bracelet idea. Thanks Jackie

Good Afternoon! Amee-you l

Good Afternoon!

Amee-you lucky girl! I wish my kids would get the chicken pox as I have opted out of the vaccine as the DR and I both agreed it would be better to "catch"it if possible so send some of that poultry my way!!LOL!!

Susannah-glad DH is going along. I always feel better with DH along when the trip takes us far from home. Have a great time and take lots of pictures.

Jackie-glad the advice from everyone helped. You are doing great. And crying from being away is just hormonal at this early juncture.

Hello everyone else too. Hope the day is going well for all.

My TADAS:
took kids to mall to buy DH a bday gift
rented movie for DS
put away laundry
vacuumed FR
load and ran and reloaded dw
lunch

PODA
dinner
shower for me

Tomorrow I am going to buy something inexpensive to wear to Sunday's baptism. I decided that I don't have anything appropriate to wear. A couple things would work if it were winter but it is not so....

Picked up the perennials from Mom(hollyhocks, purple coneflower, pinks, sage, rockcress, delphiniums) All are in the pink, purple and blue family. Hope to get them in the ground if this rain would stop. It has been raining for almost 3 days here.

Ds is next door playing with a friend and DD is still napping so I may read a little and think up some dinner. Pizza Hut anyone??

Heidi

Becky's picture

such pretty flowers Heidi!

Susannah, I e-mailed you with a landscaping/ flower question for your DH-- did you get it? And I'm so happy for you that the chore charts are working! When they are all old enough to do all of them, you can start rotating them as well (we did that at my high school/ boarding school). I honestly wish my parents had made me do more chores when I was little so that I wouldn't have had as steep of a learning curve later. Do you have kid-sized brooms and stuff? Do they even make that? I have no idea.

That said, my parents did have me do a fair amount of help with meal prep starting when I was 2 or so, and I was not as picky an eater as my sister who did less of that, and I think there is a correlation if you want to add some of that to your charts for your picky eaters.

Vonnie, if you wear sandals or clogs, you never have to wear hose! Actually people here don't wear them much anyway.

It's afternoon now.

Today's TADA:
-got dressed to shoes (although I did take them off, but I can put them on again)
-desk chores

PODA:
-a couple of phone calls
-vacuum EVERYWHERE, because I have procrastinated vacuuming the upstairs to the point where it is time to vacuum the downstairs as well! Maybe I can get DH to do some of it.
-change sheets
-take out trash
-study
-15 minutes in the kitchen zone

Vonnie's picture

End of A Week; Beginning of a Weekend

And so it is. Thank goodness. Saturday should be quiet, but Sunday will be busy.

Today's TADAs:

* Worked at office 9:00 - 12:00
* Deposited check at credit union
* Laundry
* Most important - played in pool with DD!

We're waiting for BIL to get back to town from picking up his youngest and then we're all going to meet for dinner. Still don't know for sure that DH is going to take DD tomorrow to amusement park, but I sure hope so. I could really use the time to sort the clothes & toys, plus just a little quiet time in which I might actually be able to string together two coherent thoughts! Imagine that!!! And, I need to do the grocery store without DD in tow!

Well, I'm going to go try to keep DH getting ready so everyone won't have to wait on him as we usually do.

Yippee!!!!

I am officially a SAHM for the next 10 weeks! Smiling I am so excited.

DS13 is officially a freshman in high school now. Sniff. Sad Enjoy every moment of that baby Jackie!

Well, I took a nap this afternoon. Just worn out from emotion I guess. Tomorrow I am going to do as little as possible and enjoy every second.

I will make my list of odds-n-ends I wanted to get taken care of this summer. I am going to paint DS12's room and make him some curtains, I have blinds to install in the bedrooms, and I have about 5 quilts to finish. And then there is the woodfloor to sand and seal. That will be a major undertaking as we will have to totally clear the room first, but it will be worth it.

I'm also going to experiment with freezing food so I can do more OAMC in the fall. I find my recipes to be too full of fat/carbs/processed stuff. I want to try and develop some recipes that are freezer friendly but more whole grain/veggie based.

And then there is the playing with the family. We will go camping twice for family reunions on both sides, and we will also go to Maine for another camping trip with friends.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh...........Freedom.

Smiling

Saturday

HI all!

Enjoy your vacation Jo! Sounds great - do you tent camp or do you own a camper?

Vonnie - enjoy your weekend. Hope you can get some time tomorrow - I could use that too, but probably won't happen.

Yes Heidi, those flowers sound really pretty !

Well, I made it through another week which included wowrking 3 days, book club at my house, a field trip to the zoo with DS7, plus some other stuff. It was all fun though. Last night DH and I went out for dinner while grandparents babysat. Nice.

Today we have a baseball game and then I'm thinking about a hike at a nearby state park - my parents love to hike and it looks really nice today. Would also like to vacuum and work a bit in DD5's room.

Have a good day all!

Think it may be good to have us all outside, somehow not being indoors would help while I feel icky,I think. So off we go....

Andrea-that hike sounds great. did you all go? I enjoy that but DH is not too outdoorsy in that regard so we don't do that as a family as much.

Hope everyone else is doing well today.

A Busy Day Ahead

Yesterday was soooo wonderful. DH did indeed take DD to amusement park. Left at 9:00 a.m. and didn't return until 11:15 p.m.!!! Of course, I was missing DD by 9:15 a.m.!!! But, it was great to be able to do as I wanted (to an extent). I pretty much just rested & didn't do a whole lot. The house was pretty much cleaned up, so I just lounged.

Today's PODA:

* Teach Sunday School class (I don't think DH & DD will make it!)
* Make slaw and relish dish for today's lunch
* Get clothes to change into loaded into car along with food
* Lunch at BIL's house for MIL's b'day and IL's anniversary
* Get photos made at park while whole family is together
* Get DD to church for quick choir practice before tonight's performance

Hi all

HI all!

Glad you got some time yesterday Vonnie! So who ended up getting the inlaws gifts?

HI Lois! How was Oklahoma? That is a great musical!

Heidi, hope you are better. The hike was great - saw lots of pretty waterfalls and it was a beautiful day. The kids were, of course, soaked by the timeit was over, but they loved it!

Plugging away at chores on my day of rest - yuk! At least DH is helping some, but I am seriously considering hiring a housekeeper. I probably shouldn't say that on the Flybaby thread but I feel like I have no time for ME!! Selfish, huh?

OK, off to do some paid work. See ya!

Susannah, we just get really

Susannah, we just get really fast downpours and then it stops. It stays overcast and threatening looking, though, so you're afraid to start anything outside. I AM glad we're getting rain, I just wish it would be a little more condensed a FEW times a week instead of spread out a little every afternoon. It totally blows our pool time!!!

Sorry Emma was restless. My Emily does that from time to time. She stayed up until 1 a.m. one night last week. It makes for a miserable day for both myself and DH.

STOP CALLING YOURSELF LAZY

You are my friend, and I don't allow my friends to be insulted, so I shout at the insulters. Also it's not true. If you have five children and they are all fed, you are working ultra-hard.

I am using a pita bread recipe I found online, and I have never tried to make it before; apparently you just roll it into balls like regular rolls, smash them flat, and then bake at a really high temperature (475 degrees F) for 10 minutes and the high temp forms the pocket. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Susannah's picture

Is all of North America socked in?

It's raining here too, right now.

Wallpaper

I can sympythize with the wallpaper fiasco! What are you using to get it off? We only had one wall in our bedroom to do but that was enough!Big grin
We used this blue spray gunk! It was sooo sticky! We would stick to the plastic on the floor and all the pieces of wallpaper that we had taken off!! Laughing out loud We looked like a bunch of cats with tape on out paws!LOL Laughing out loud And after we started we found another layer of wallpaper! Uglier than the first one! You should seen our faces! Shocked
I think there where 4 layers total!
lil note: the "new" house is covered in floral wallpaper! Dh asked me 3 times "Are you ready? Is it really worth it?"
It is soo worth it though! When you walk into your bathroom everyday you will smile! Smiling

Heidi, I think they really ju

Heidi, I think they really just want to make sure that you are providing the child with a stable and good home environment. Our social worker is more like a friend than anything else, even though we only met him when he did our home study. He is very helpful and lets us ask questions, too. He has given us material to read if we've had questions, etc. He just gets an overall impression of what's gone on since the last visit from talking with us and observing DD and then writes a report based on that. We also have to provide 10-12 photos, at least one of the three of us together. I finally narrowed it down to 22 photos! We take soooo many pictures, I had a hard time choosing.

That's about it, I guess. Pretty painless!

Sick

Hi everyone,

I have no list today I have been fighting a cold and last night I had a rather severe asthma attack. I saw my Dr this morning and I have 4 new drugs to take with orders to rest, rest, rest or a trip to the hospital is in the plan.

Just thought I would drop a quick note, I thought adults sometimes grow out of their asthma. Not the case here!lol

Have a good evening everyone

Joanne

Thank you for giving blood

I sucked up 4 units of it last year! Now you've helped replace it. Smiling Did you know that each pint you give helps several people, since most people who need blood only need one component of it?

Also, FYI, if you are healthy enough to give blood in the first place, and if you follow the recommended precautions, you shouldn't pass out from letting out a pint. It would take at least two pints to make you faint.

Vonnie's picture

I am the List Queen!

Yes, Joanne, I am a list-maker. I have a daily book for work. In it, I write my to do list on the left and my phone calls on the right. Not just messages, but calls I received, notes & action taken. It has become invaluable to me on some issues in the past.

For my personal life, I have a calendar that zips up. In it, I keep a list on a "to do" pad that is long & skinny. I only put personal and/or home things on it.

At home, we have a family calendar on the refrigerator. We each have a block for each day. On it, I record any appointments or events for each person. This is duplicated in my personal calendar that I take with me at all times.

Some people would call me obsessive. But, my mental state is that I write it down in it's proper place & then I can free my mind from having to remember that again. I see it when it's time to see it & don't have to worry about it until then.

Organized? Well, I wouldn't say that. It's one thing to list things & another thing to actually do your whole list for the day. I try not to be over-zealous and put too many things on it, but often this does happen.

Vonnie

Susannah's picture

Okay, okay!

Haha! Actually, I made up for it tonight by straightening the LR, vacuuming, steam cleaning a couple of yuk spots, and cleaning dishes & sink.

Cool! So that's why pitas are always slightly stuck together.

I wish my kids were all fed. I guess they are living off of cold cereal and PB&J. Anna Kate eats supper (I rewarded her with ice cream tonight) but the rest generally decline. I'm making buckwheat pancakes for them tomorrow night; they'll probably eat that.

Also, Anniversary Update: DH and I are going to Red Lobster tomorrow night, with baby in tow (it's too far away to leave her, she'd give my mom what-for).

Lists

Hi Vonnie,

How would you like to take trip to Calagry to show me how it is done, I could really use the lesson!!! We are always very good to our guests! You could come up during The Calagary Stampede when the city turns into a cowboy town! Imagine what your DD would think, cowboys, horses and lots of fun lol.

I am really trying to make lists and sticking to them what is that saying about good intentions.... I really like what you said about freeing your mind about what is on the lists.

Thanks Joanne
