You Won't Be Disappointed!
Folk music lovers will not be disappointed with this album. Kate sings with a low-key, straightforward simplicity that cuts right to your heart. She is indeed deeply familiar with--and in love with--these songs, and her delivery is breathtaking on some of them. On the very first spin of the disc, her delicate vocalizations on "Botany Bay" and "I Wonder What Is Keeping My True Love" pulled me right in to the pathos of the songs. Sweet, simple, and utterly heartbreaking. The musicians show their skill and artistry, especially in the live performances of "Sir Eglamore"--such a playful romp!--and "The Drowned Lovers."
I love acoustic folk. There is nothing like listening to music performed by people who are thoroughly enjoying themselves; it infuses the music with real feeling. There is not a false note on this album, every bit of it rings true. Kate's Yorkshire accent only adds to her self-effacing charm and her voice is a perfect match to this genre.
I say, buy it!
