We had a big thunderstorm early this morning, so I was awake watching the weather from 4:00-4:45. Went back to bed and then up at 8:20 when DD woke me! Felt good to sleep late for a change. I guess my subconscious knew today was a holiday because I didn't wake at my normal 5:30 or 6:00. I'm glad!
It's 9:20 and I actually have a few TADAs already:
* Made grocery list, including lunch material for DD this week
* Stripped all three beds and have sheets in washer; towels in dryer
* Hung, folded and put away load of dark clothes
* Ironed three linen/cotton blouses so I'll have options this week
* Started organizing DH's sock drawer; stopped & told him he'd have to do it
* Called my Mom to check on plans since it's a rainy, dreary day here
My PODA for today:
* Finish sheets and remake beds
* Wash a load of light clothes
* Go to grocery store
* Get papers from DD's summer preschool and read over to make sure I haven't missed anything
* Go to Mom's to eat this afternoon
So, I'm mixing holiday fare with a little flying. I find that I can rarely just relax and do nothing for a day; I need to fly a little or I feel too guilty to enjoy it. Plus, it makes the day following relaxing less depressing because the work isn't piled up.
Isn't it funny how we perceive ourselves and our homes versus how others see us? My SIL was here Friday and she looked around my house and said "I wish my house was more like yours - you don't have things stacked everywhere. Everything looks so neat and picked up whenever I stop by". And I had just been bemoaning to myself that DD had strowed her toys around and my floors were in bad need of sweeping. I told her it was FlyLady but she's not a convert yet. My Mom loaned her a copy of FlyLady's book, but I don't think she "got it". I told her that you can take it to whatever level you prefer. I don't pay much attention to the emails anymore unless it's a testimonial. I am trying to get started doing zone work again, though. It did make me feel good to know that I was making a difference in my house, even if it is small. Before DD we had two rooms (now her bedroom & the playroom) that were literally un-useable because they were stacked wall to wall and ceiling to floor with JUNK. I say it was junk because since we couldn't use it & didn't even know what was in there, it was junk. We cleared out both rooms, trashing stuff, having a garage sale (made $450) and just getting things right again. Now, I don't have any rooms that I keep the doors locked when company comes over. Every room may not look perfect, but at least I'm not ashamed to have someone wander in.
Well, I guess typing on the 'puter isn't flying! I should be doing something for 15 minutes!
Y'all have a great Memorial Day! Hug a veteran if you know one.
Vonnie, sounds like you've got your OWN Flylady testimonial going on there. Good for you!
Heidi, I'll take your DD for a day. As a matter of fact--wow--don't laugh--This morning I had a dream that I had to take a boy toddler to the potty because he was having a #2 emergency. How's THAT for reality dreaming? He wasn't mine, though. He was my aunt's. Usually when I have dreams like that, the babies are mine. I've had the high chair dream and the nursing dream and the bassinet dream. Whatever.
Vonnie, I liked, no NEEDED to read your post so much I may print it out for inspiration through today. Thank you. This is exactly why I'm plugging back in here. Thank you.
--Karin
Vonnie~I agree with Karin, You inspired me again.
We have NO plans today! We went to moms bday and yesterday we had confirmation and birthday to go to. I am actually excited to fly today!
Maybe thats what I needed! Oh and my mom gave me a huge roll of bubble wrap to start packing up my antiques and breakables.
I have been waking up at 9:30am everyday! Talk about sleeping in!
I need to wake up at 6am tomorrow and I don't know how to do it.
I would type out my PODA list but its basically every room in the house! UUGGHHH
Need to get my shoes on and get motivated!
Love you all
Amee
You guys are too kind. I almost deleted my post because I felt like it might sound I was "tooting my own horn". I didn't mean it that way at all -- I credit any progress I've made to the Lord and to FlyLady. I think more than anything I am amazed. See, I have spent my whole adult life just trying to get my act together. I wanted to be the "whole package": look great all the time, be in great shape, be a perfect wife, be a perfect housekeeper, be a perfect mom and be a top-notch employee. So, I would set unattainable goals for myself in EVERY area. Then, I would get depressed when I failed miserably at each and every area. I love to observe people, and I wanted to be: organized and "with it" like Lynne, thin and in shape like Beth, tan and beautiful like Cherri, a sweet personality like Amy, etc. etc. (and yes, these are really the people I was looking toward). What I failed to realize was that each of these people were not perfect in EVERY area. Everyone has their positives & so do I. My positives are that I am a born organizer. I like to have my routines and keep things in order. But, I have made myself develop enough flexibility to account for the many life changes that DD has brought. My negatives are that I am not in shape, probably won't ever be in shape, and I don't want it bad enough to do it. I am not unhealthy, but I could definitely stand to lose 30 pounds.
So, a long post from me once again. But, I just wanted to make sure no one thought I was trying to pat myself on the back with my last post. Believe me, I take NO credit!
Vonnie, no way do I think you're patting yourself on the back. I DID print out your post, even called my friend and read it to her. SHE was motivated. When we moved I left a great friend behind, and may try to get her to join the group, too. Flylady and here at Flybabies. I NEED to stay motivated. I'm STILL trying to clear the sink. There's not much work, but many distractions.
I was talking with my friend that we both get discouraged when we look at all we have to do. That's been my big stumbling block. I remember the first time I tried this it took me months to really get where I felt comfortable, reached goals. Well, I'm back. No instant fixes, small things at a time. It will come again, I know it will...
And toot your horn, You Deserve It! I guess I havent really found something to give myself credit for unless you count my overextending myself to people who need help. There is a man who is one of my most treasured friends. He used to be my neighbor when I lived in an apartment. He is legally blind has taken custody of his 2 grandkids. Ages 16-9. I take him to Dr.'s appt., to the store, or just go over there and clean. I am always pushing my flying aside to go help him or someone else. After awhile I always crash. I get emotionally and physically drained. My husband gives me a pep talk and tells me that I do it to a fault. What can I say I nurture and love everyone. I just don't know when to let go and take care of myself.
OK enough ........sorry
I have gotten quiet a few things done with DH help!
I really want to straighten garage but It's just too hot.
Maybe later. My PODA is LAUNDRY LAUNDRY LAUNDRY!
LOL As long as my kids don't make too much of a mess.
Amee
I think we are all doing well, and I'm proud of you, Vonnie! You go, girl! This is the place to post your accomplishments!
I feel better today because I dejunked the girls' room. Guess I'm starting the Super Fling Boogie a day early. It's been littered for the last few days, and they have so many tiny small things that I couldn't seem to get started sorting. I had to vacuum up the little bits this morning; it's getting dangerous bringing the baby up there. So I threw everything on the floor into a huge black garbage back and threw all the "junk containers" into the hallway. Not exactly Flylady-style, but it worked. Once I had vacuumed, I started putting things back. I didn't intend to sort the contents of the garbage bag today, but even ended up emptying that! I got one dollhouse and three grocery bags of fling heaved into the garage. I'm not even going to think about how quickly it will all go to pot again. I did rearrange some of the containers, and it seems less cluttered this way.
All this interposed itself into my Weekly Home Blessing (which I usually don't do, but was *trying* to do today). So, the other ta da's, before I got sidetracked, were:
*"Boiled" diapers
*Cleared living room
*Vacuumed Living room
*Made bed
*Made lunch, cleared, wiped table
*Ran DW
Guess what? I found another tooth in baby's mouth. When did that arrive? Lower left, for my reference.
Guess what else? DH IS PUTTING IN THE IRRIGATION TODAY!!! I have waited and waited and waited and waited...ad nauseum. It's finally happening!!! I don't know if he'll get it all done today, but at least he started. We are one step closer to actually having a yard, as opposed to a field of red clay. Once we get grass started, my laundry woes are going to dwindle.
On the PODA:
*Finish WHB
*Give "the treatment" to boys' room
*Fold my brains out until all the laundry is done & put away
Karin, I get the same syndrome. Do you find the discouragement is tied directly to how tired you are? When I get tired, I look around and just want to weep. When I feel more energy, I want to tackle it. Unfortunately, I go "all out" and neglect other things in search of perfect order. Rather anti-fly. Hence the sidetrackedness today.
My challenge this week is to finish my master bath. A girlfriend and I started stripping wallpaper about a month ago--and I have done NOTHING since. All the tools are there, but I just need to do it.
I'm so glad that it's Tuesday! It feels good not to have to work on Monday. My day not to have office hours is Wednesday & unless someone says something to me about it, I'm not going to volunteer to make up my hours from Monday tomorrow. I NEED my day!
Well, DD starts her summer preschool today. I sure hope she likes it there & doesn't cry and beg not to go. She was great at her regular preschool, but I'm afraid she's going to be so used to it and her old teachers that she'll be upset with the change. Life is about change, though, so she'll have to adjust. I will stay there until she settles in; I told my office last week that I'd be late today.
I didn't get up when DH left for work (5:00 a.m.), but I set the alarm and got up at 6:00. I've still managed to TADA so far:
* Load of light clothes in dryer
* Took out trash and pushed cart to curb for pickup
* Got myself ready except to dress (I'm wearing a white blouse today, so I'll wait until closer to time to leave to put it on)
* Made our bed and straightened bedroom
We will leave a little later for summer preschool; 8:20 instead of 8:05.
I'm finding that if I get up and get myself ready instead of jumping on the computer, I get more done. I did allow myself to check weather.com so I'd be sure of what I was wearing today, but then I pushed away and went to get ready. I spend too much time checking my boards & lists and time gets away from me. So, this works much better. Plus, it's a little discipline that I need in my life.
My PODA:
Before leaving for school --
* Fold towels in dryer and put away
* Put light load in dryer and dark load in the washer
* Make DD's lunch
* Review today's to do list
* Make DD's bed when she gets up
* Get DD ready for school
* Breakfast
After we get back from work/school --
* Get DD down for her nap
* Finish up laundry
* Sweep floors
Light load today. I need to see what I put on the menu that looks good for tonight. Maybe Spicy Lime Chicken. I'm in a chicken kind of mood.
TADA
DS off to school
morning routine(make lunch for DS,coffee,make beds,run dw,etc)
fed and let out animals
PODA
library
BJ's for milk and lunch meat
put away basket of laundry
vacuum basement playroom
dinner
meeting 7-9pm
Pretty open day. Tonight is the last LD meeting and I will miss it. Met a few really good people there. I already wrote a thank you note to the instructors that I will bring tonight.
Vonnie-hope Dd does well at the new school. My daughter has separation anxiety big time that hopefully preschool will "cure" her of.
Joanna-are you planning on repapering or painting the master bath? Any color ideas yet?
The weekend was okay, busy. Glad to be back in a groove today. But need to relax that by next week when DS will be off for the summer.
I hope to maintain basics over the summer and then let the days fill with whatever we choose.
DD is still asleep and it is nearly 9am! Taking her to the park late in the day yesterday must have really worn her out.
Susannah, I think I feel the same. Except I don't get the chance to go "all out" on anything. I just get tired, then weepy. I have to tell myself to keep moving on most days. Getting outside the house helps the mood, but not the house. Let's just say we gardened a LOT yesterday. Good for us, never got the basics of the inside work completely finished...
Hey, it's going to take me a while to really get things down again, but I'm going to keep trying. Hence my need to keep checking in here for motivation...
Okay, just remembered a big meeting at my son's new school this morning, so I need to get cranking. It's light out late now, so getting the boys to bed has been difficult. Should be a ton of fun getting them up this morning...
I need the Super Fling Boogie. Maybe the kick I needed to get stuff out of the basement. Bring my pile of stuff outside to the dump.
In my case, seven people in a small-ish house makes for literally constant picking up, cleaning, and laundry. So, no matter how hard I work, it's inevitably going to be just as much work the next day. It never STOPS! I know I need to train mine to better pick up after themselves, but even doing that seems overwhelming. Baby steps! I love that verse about how His "mercies are new every morning." Flylady's kind of like that with "You are never behind." I love her other saying, "Better to hit a lick at a snake." LOL! That one has kept me from perfectionism many a time. At least doing something--anything--makes it a little bit better.
And I'm having trouble with late bedtimes too. Part of it is just procrastination on my part, and the other bit is the light playing tricks on me. I forget what time it is, and if I remember my kids say, "It's not nighttime yet!" I've got a bunch of sleepyheads this morning too. It was almost ELEVEN O'CLOCK when I went to put baby to bed.
TA DAs:
*Finished WHB yesterday (my version of it anyway)
*Got all the laundry folded and most of it put away
*Cleaned kitchen & sink
*Made a hair appt. this morning. Time to cut this stuff off!
PODA:
*Finish morning routine (no, I shouldn't be on the 'puter yet!)
*Homeschooling/Thank-yous for birthday presents
*Fold load in dryer, switch washer load, put away upstairs clothes
*Take DH to lawyer's today; we're down to one vehicle as of today; Yikes! Negotiate with DH to keep the van this afternoon so I can get a hair cut.
*Probably have to make some calls for political campaign, either today or tomorrow.
Vonnie, Spicy Lime Chicken sounds a little like Leanne's Garlic Lime Chicken. Let us know how preschool goes!
Love y'all! Thanks for your encouragement and inspiration!
TADA
~Put away 7 loads of laundry
~Packed 10 boxes
~Sent off boys to school
~Load in washing machine
~Washed car
~Cleaned out coat/craft closet
~Made "packing" bucket (tape, marker, shrink wrap, etc..)
WoooHooo! I've done other things but they aren't completed yet so I won't post. Maybe it will keep my motivation up to finish and make it back!
Susannah I'm with you on the flyladyisms. I love getting the emails even though I don't read all of them. It keeps it in my head! Which I need because I have a horrible memory about things like that!
My dad used to call it "selective memory". I only remember things I want to. (Fun Stuff)
Be Back Later, after I get more things done.
Amee
Done: Boys up, fed, dressed, IEP meeting, drop one off at school. Call to check on insurance for appt., find out phones are down. Call to get insurance on son's cochlear implant processor. Will complete tomorrow.
ToDo: Get Fed Ex of medical equipment ready to ship back to company, finish med ins. app., call ins. company back later. Go through pile of papers to make sure I'm not missing any bills to pay. "Do" the kitchen (anyone have a jackhammer? the grime on the floor...), finish laundry, pick up kid from school, watch friend's son tonight.
LikeToDo: buy groceries, go to gym.
Now let's try this again and see how much I actually get done...
TADA
library
BJ's (their prices on lunch meat went way up,need to check out other stores)
vacuumed playroom
put away laundry
made several calls
sorted mail
DD sat on potty twice and peed twice(guess that is really her TADA!)
trimmed some low branches that always hit me in the face when mowing
got papers together for last LD meeting
Still to do:
quickie dinner
start homework with Ds before meeting
get DD to sit on potty after dinner
If anyone wants to know what it feels like to be learning disabled, borrow this video from your library:"How Difficult Can This Be?" It is awesome. It is set in a classroom with parents, teachers,LD students, typical students and hosted by Rick Lavoie who is an expert in the field and also very funny and down to earth. Ok that's my plug...no more.
Just came in and the sky let loose...pouring rain and lightening. DD is napping so I will look at some magazines I got at the library.
Check with you all later.
PS-Karin,IEP papers and ins. papers I can relate to. What is your system for keeping it all organized?
Heidi--I'm going to paint the walls once the wallpaper is down. I'm a big fan of paint these days
Vonnie--I need to use your technique on computer time. It's a huge time sink for me
TaDa's
Returned some outdoor ceiling fans that I will never get around to installing. It felt good to let that project go, and especially to get the money back!
Grocery shopped
Installed clothesline, and hung my first load. My grandma would be proud I always feel like she's with me when I'm doing something that she would have done (gardening, canning, etc.)
DD did very well at the new preschool. She was talking and smiling nonstop all the way home. She eats lunch there, so that saves some time after we get home. She can go straight to her nap and have more time for play in the afternoon. They are also doing several field trips, have story time at the local library and water day. They need parents to help with some of the field trips, etc. and I will be able to do so on Wednesdays since I've kept that day open. So, every other Wednesday this summer I'm volunteering to help with field trips. I think DD will be pleased with it.
Today's TADAs:
* Finished laundry - nothing's dirty except what we're all wearing!
* Ran dishwasher (still need to unload)
* Picked up dog's medicine at vet
* Wal-mart run for lunchbox (for DD; hers is too small), work pants for DH, lunch meat spread
Well, I need to run. I want to get my ingredients together for the spicy lime chicken so I'll be ready to cook when DH gets home. Aren't I getting all June Cleaver?? LOL!!
I got up and ran errands in my more-or-less PJs (shorts and t-shirt, in which I'd slept). Now I have to shower and get dressed "for real." I haven't eaten because DH finished off the peach crisp for breakfast, which was supposed to be our breakfast to share.
I need to do some cooking today.
PODA:
-handwashing underwear and a "delicate" shirt
-kitchen routine
-fix some beans for tomorrow's chili
-start sourdough bread for tomorrow
Or Flychicas? At least as long as Mike's not around.
Checking in!
SLUG:
*No laundry yet
*No homeschooling/thank-yous
*Oops! Forgot a dr. appt. today
TA DA:
*Rescheduled Dr. appt.
*Got hair cut to chin length
*Mailed eBay & other stuff; bought stamps
*Supper's about ready
*Took lunch to DH
*Did 1 hr. campaign calling
Personal responses later! Just on while nursing babe; typing 1-handed.
I was having a wee bit of an anxiety attack so I called my good friend from Kansas (second or third time today, I don't know, thank goodness for a cheap, unlimited long distance plan.). Anxiety attack subsided with laughter. I've decided to name my personal dungeon (room where stuff gets dumped, hardest to keep cleaned up), the main bedroom, after the state she lives in. The Kansas Room. Always looks like a tornado just blew threw it... SOMEDAY that will change. Right now I need to figure out which zone we're in. I think she said entryway and dining room.
I picked up a lot because friends are coming over, I'm watching their son. Made all the todo calls that needed to get done. I'm only half bummed insurance has a huge backlog and the appointment for tomorrow didn't get approved yet. I'll finish catching up tomorrow. Mt. Laundry and post office/boxes and bill duty. Yeah...
That means the week is half over! Woohoo! I LOVE holiday Mondays. Last evening became a bust for me with a 2 hour phone call from an old high school classmate. I listened for 2 hours while she droned on. The purpose of the phone call evidently was to brag about how well she had done for herself. Her family had very little when we went to school together and then she married a loser right out of high school. After she divorced him, she finally found Mr. Right and she is just "living the dream" according to her. I'm glad she is doing well, but I know the only reason she called was to boost herself. I know how much her house cost to build, how much she weighs (which is significantly less than me, of course), and how much money her husband makes. I didn't say much and when she finally asked me where my DH works and I told her he was a team leader at Mercedes-Benz, she just had a weak "Oh". My BIL asked me if I told her how well I was doing, but I just wasn't going to stoop to that. She found out just enough, and only when she asked me direct questions. Gotta use that caller i.d. next time! LOL!
Today DD goes to preschool a.m. and I have my morning to do what I need to do. My PODA:
* Take DD to preschool; pay tuition for June; turn in sign up sheet for helping at field trips
* Grocery store for dog food, puppy food and dishwashing liquid (poor planning on my part)
* Sweep floors
Well, I'm sitting here with a towel on my hair & not dressed, so I need to run. I want to get off to a good start today.
I think that's how it's said. Yeah, Joanne!!!!! I hear you on the Christmas stuff. Your post was motivating. I wish I had a friend like that. I think I do, and may ask her help this weekend, too.
Oh, Vonnie, YES on the caller ID. And yeah on preschool! I hope your DD has a good time there.
Okay. Yesterday was like one big walking anxiety attack. And it's done. Today since the doc visit was cancelled (hiccup in the insurance system), my day has been freed to catch-up. You ever find you do things, forget about how much you're really done? This morning I've already taken the garbage and recycling out, watered plants in raised beds, green house, bed plants and hanging strawberries. A really nice way to start the day. Now I have my little coffee break.
Yesterday I tossed one bag of stuff in the truck to take to Goodwill. Today I will dropoff DS at school, go to the gym, come h ome feed kids luch, put them to sleep for nap. Then clean up a little. Pick up DS from school, grocery shop, put groceries away, dinner, and then a project with the boys. Before Bed routine. I need to get clothes out, need to get in that habit again.
Okay. I hated posting my lists of things to do, but it's helping me right now get things straight, get into a routine, and keep accountable. Let's see how the day goes now...

Hello to everyone else, hope things are going well for you all.
Sorry to hear about the anxiety, Karin. I'm glad things are better now. That must be awful!
Vonnie, what a weird phone call. I'm glad you were finally able to extricate yourself.
Supper was good last night, but my children (all but eldest) wouldn't eat it: chicken and broccoli soup. My DH raved about it (he didn't eat with us, but finished off the leftovers). I thought it pretty yummy myself. Also, finally used up all the fresh peaches in a truly southern fat-and-sugar-laden cobbler. But oh so good!

Hi Flyfriends!! Just wanted to pop in fast and tell you guys I had a girl!! Her name is Alexa Christina. She was born Saturday May 29 at 746pm. She weighs 7lb10z and is 20 inches long. I had a Dr appointment on friday and I had to go to labor and delivery because her herbeat was dropping, after lots of monitoring the decision was made to induce me since I was almost 38 weeks. After being induced it took a while for labor to begin, but once she broke my water on sat am at 1130, we progressed and she was born vaginally. Thank goodness for that epidural though!! Pushing her out was the most amazing feeling I have ever felt. She is nursing well and sleeping pretty good. Well, hope everyone is doing well and i will be trying to pop in alot because now is when I really need to fly!!
I want to post a picture but I cant get it to resize. It worked for my other photos i have under my profile, but i cant remember what I did. I will keep trying though. Have a great day Love Jackie and Alexa
Jackie-WOW,Cngratulations To You. What a beautiful name too. Glad that all is well, try to rest and fly in tiny bursts. You need your energy when the high wears off. Best of luck...
I am taking a moment to breathe. DD is still down for her nap; should sleep another hour, if I am lucky. Her disposition is so totally different when she is well-rested!
I have worked my bo-hunkus off so far today. My TADAs:
* Got DD to preschool on time; delivered tuition and field trip volunteer sheet
* Went to grocery store to get puppy food & dog food for critters
* Transferred 44 lb. dog food to plastic container we keep it in
* Fed puppies and dogs
* Unloaded dishwasher & put everything away
* Put dinner in crockpot - Spiced Beef Brisket w/potatoes & carrots
* Folded, hung & put away load of dark clothes washed this a.m.
* Put puppy ad in paper via internet
* Got a newspaper and pulled out grocery ads
* Made some notes of things I need to do tomorrow
* Emailed coworker to see how she is doing (she's tempting premature labor)
* Printed some photos from computer for inclusion in our post placement report visit next week
* Also went through and picked out some photos for report & visit
And now I think I'll lay down for a moment and take a little nappy. I have been trying to do this for 45 minutes to an hour every afternoon while DD sleeps. It really helps energize me for the rest of the day & Lord knows I need energizing!!
PODA for rest of day:
* Make bread to go with dinner and serve
* Get DD's swimsuit & towel out for water day tomorrow
* Prepack DD's lunch for tomorrow

Vonnie,I think maybe your friend from school is not really very happy herself so her plan was to make you feel bad,,,,glad it didn't work
Heidi,,good going on the potty training!! keep it up ,,it'll happen
Karin,,,so glad to see you back
my big tada is I got three free applications from my lawn service. The BAD part is that the guy sprayed my garden and killed my beans and tomatoes :( I didn't have to put up a fight the manager came out and saw the damage. I told him I could have gotten a lot of FOOD out of the garden and my heart went into the planting and growing. So thats 120.00 bucks. We are taking a credit with a promise to do a better job.
tada
DDs off to school,,,DD16 back at 11:30 only had two finals today
painted two coats [light muave] in the upstairs hallway,,,had already done doors in white
bought new plants for garden,,,,with high hopes
can't mow lawn,,,raining,,its a monsoon her lately
Sorry to hear about your beans and tomatoes Kitty.
Joanne, I lived in NYC for a year. August is HOT there, but I'm sure it's cooler than Trinidad. How long do you expect to stay, and what is your budget for hotels, restaurants, etc.? And how old and how many are your kids? If you want to go cheap there is a youth hostel on Amsterdam Ave just south of Harlem which has family rooms-- DH and I stayed there once, after we'd moved away, and they were nice if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. Don't let the "Harlem" word scare you; the hostel is not in a dangerous area as far as I could tell (it was near where DH had gone to grad school for a year, and I used to walk alone there after dark, and I would see moms and little kids out at that time).

my poda
many more calls that weren't planned but needed
organized DS IEP papers,tests,etc...
Ds and DH went to look at a used vehicle so DH doesn't have to drive a huge work truck around all the time, hope it works out.
kittycat-bummer on losing the veggie plants but at least the company was good about their mistake. I know what you mean about all this rain. The good thing is water bills should be lower as far as needing to sprinkle the lawn or water flowers.
Joanne-NYC is so much fun, hope you enjoy it.
Hello to everyone else....
Got The Handmaid's Tale at the library the other day and want to start it. Anyone read it?
Yes Heidi I've read it! That is a great book! Hope you enjoy it - there is a movie too. By the way, I agree about Rick Lavoie - I saw him give a presentation in person aboaut 8 years back - it was fantastic! I would highly recommend seeing him if you ever get the chance.
Welcome to the world, little Alexa! She has the same birthday as my Olivia, who just turned 6. I'm glad to hear you both came through it well. (I have to agree on those epidurals.) She came out a decent size, for 38 weeks! I'm sure you are having a wonderful time getting to know your little sweetheart. Can't wait to see the pics!
Send some rain our way, please. We need it.
Vonnie, what an amazing TA DA. And your brisket sounds heavenly.
My big TA DA for the evening is that I got to go to homegroup tonight. I feel very happy. I found out at the last minute that we were having it and managed to make it anyway. What's even more fun is that the ladies are going to surprise one of our friends with a shopping trip next week! The men are going to stay with her boys and feed them supper, whilst the gals get to go out to eat and to the maternity outlet. She's pregnant with her 7th, on a tight budget, and has nothing to wear. So that is going to be blast.
We had Leanne's Mexican Lasagne for dinner. MMM! Lots left, enough to freeze probably. Nobody really ate tonight except for me. DH made himself sick spinning around the yard in that track-loader, covering up the irrigation lines. He forgot his motion-sickness tabs. I'll spare you the toss-the-cookies "smiley."
I read the Handmaid's Tale in college. I thought it interesting from a science fiction point of view, and completely paranoid from a feminist point of view. You'll see what I mean!
Found out someone else in my homegroup is working on the same campaign I am. Tomorrow night is our meet-and-greet event for our base. I'm really looking forward to it! I have to do some tight scheduling with DH to make it on time, which always makes me a little nervous. He usually runs late. Eeek. I think we really have a chance against this incumbent.
Well, I have some peach cobbler to finish off. I have managed to lose four or five pounds this week in spite of my dismal eating habits. I hope it keeps going, but I *am* getting older now. Ye olde metabolism is not what it was, once upon a time.
It's a dreary morn here in West Central Alabama. The forecast says strong storms possible. Great! Will the sun ever shine here again? My tan will be completely faded before I get back outside again. The joy of summer in the South!!!
DD couldn't fall asleep last night and DH rocked her until she finally fell off around midnight. GREAT! She'll be impossible to wake up this morning. I am going to let her sleep another half hour or so, though. Today is water day at preschool, so she gets to wear her swimsuit.
My PODA:
* Work at office 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
* Get a hair appointment for cut & color
* Call SIL regarding child dedication at our church
* Print out my menu forms at work and reduce size
* Laundry
* Get DH a cell phone after work if I don't get a hair appointment
* Update checkbook from internet banking page
* Take trash out p.m. and push cart to curb for tomorrow
* Get clothes picked out to wear to Mother-Daughter banquet tomorrow night
Now, I need to run feed the puppies before it starts storming. It's looking really dark.
If Vonnie's got rain, that means we might get some...although those weather patterns usually go through Gainesville and up in to NC. Sounds like DD's got a fun day ahead of her, Vonnie, if the weather doesn't spoil it.
TA DA's:
*Handed DH an eBay item to mail for me, as I cannot get to the P.O. We'll see if it happens.
*Muffins made (we're out of milk)
*Dressed to shoes
*Read PDL (but didn't finish the chapter in one nursing session)
*Bed made
*E-mailed anniversary photos to church secretary
We also wrote three thank-yous yesterday, amidst much moaning and groaning. Looking forward to continuing that today (not).
Today I'm having a Talk with the children. 1. We are reducing their computer time to 1/2 hr. each. It's been out of control lately. 2. I want to review the house rules with them. It's time to bring some consequences to bear for "selective hearing." If we all know Da Rulz, no one has excuse. I've got to get my act together on this. I've been allowing too much to pass because of my laziness, to their detriment.
So, PODA: dig out my copy of The 21 Rules of this House!
Also,
*Homeschool/Thank-yous
*Laundry
*Bills
*Attendance reports (I'm behind on this)
*Fling something
*Meet&greet tonight with candidate
*Pick up milk & choc syrup.
I hope it works. Thanks for all your well wishes. We are doing great today, had our first dr visit and she gained 1 and 1/2 ounces which is good because I waas worried about the breastfeeding.
Congratulations Jackie!!! Glad everyone is safe and sound
Well, our power just came back on after nearly 2 days. I'm not sure where to begin... I saved most of the meat and milk by taking them to my mom's, but I need to start disposing of the rest. I didn't expect to throw FOOD away for super fling!!!
I did pack up a batch of kids clothes and toys for fling. Still need to do that WHB hour
DS3 is terribly afraid of thunder, so he's slept with me for the last few nights. I'm pretty tired, since he is a jumpy bumpy sleeper at best. Vonnie's nap idea sounds great right now, even though my productivity isn't nearly as good!!
DD and I stayed home today. I did manage some TADAS:
spread mulch by back door
killed some weeds around property
walked dog
RSVP'd for a committee
1 load of laundry
vacuumed 1st and 2nd floor
read local and weekly paper
made a couple more calls
dinner
homework
Guess alot did get accomplished.
DD is still going potty a couple times aday but not on her own volition, baby stepping for sure.
Ds gets out of school on the 9th,can't believe it. Summer is really here!
You all sound like you are getting lots done. I am soooooo excited that my mom will be watching my DD for several hours tomorrow while I window shop and have lunch with a friend. I told her to take DD to the park since that is like her favorite thing to do. I hope all goes well. My mom has babysat a few times but always at my house and always close to DD bedtime so we shall see.
The Handmaid's tale is definitely something I ordinarily wouldn't have chosen but I am liking it.
Andrea-Rick Lavoie is coming to my area in the near future and I do plan on seeing him. He is awesome.
Susannah-how is the back yard coming, when do you expect the grass seed or sod to go in? that will be so much less carpet cleaning and laundry for you I hope.
Vonnie-how was water day for Dd? Enjoy the banquet tomorrow. Is it through your church or preschool?
Don't worry Becky, I am really not up on that stuff either - I find I rarely watch TV anymore except for the news.
Did the preschool field trip today with DD5 to the Strong Museum in Rochester - fun. Playing catch up otherwise today and I will work tomorrow.
Looks like our weather is finally looking better so hope to hike or something this weekend with my parents. I did fly some today - cleaned my disgusting bathroom and decluttered a bit. DH sealed the driveway.
And a good morning it is!! Not only is it Friday, but the sun is scheduled to shine today AND tomorrow!!!
Today' PODA:
* Work at office 9:00 - 12:00
* Get DD to preschool & picked up on time
* Laundry
* Figure out what to wear to banquet tonight
* Hose off floats that got blown out of pool during last night's storm
Not too bad. There are some little things I didn't include, but that's it for the most part.
I called yesterday and got an appointment to get my hair cut & highlighted/lowlighted. It's only 5 weeks out from last appt., but my hair has really grown during that time & I have root-rot. I told DH I had gotten an appointment and he sulled up and said "Hmm, I had planned to try to go... blah, blah, but's that's OK". As usual, he should be able to go do as he pleases on the weekends and it's up to me to entertain DD. Funny how that always falls to Mom, huh? We have a 3:00 wedding tomorrow, so he needs to stick to home anyway or he'll be late & I despise walking into a wedding late!
Well, I am going to run. I have showered, and now I need to go get dressed, get my makeup on and fix this mane. "See" you gals later today!
PODA
shower and dress
go to the new mall and lunch with friend WITHOUT my DD
put away laundry
mow backyard or possibly Saturday
read paper
read book
dinner
no homework
video or game night
Vonnie-my DH assumes I will always be available to be with the kids when he wants to go somewhere or run errands. But the trouble is I am the one who IS always available!! All this will be altered in 2 years when BOTH kids are in school full time and the evenings get more hectic with double the homework and double the playdates and double the after school activities! Not looking foward to that craziness...
Better hit the shower,my mom is due here in an hour.
Maybe we'll get some of that Alabama system after all. It looks cloudy this morning. The air has that pre-thunderstorm feel.
I'm canceling Elias's appointment this morning as I got home around 10:30 last night and the children were still up. :x It's nearly nine now and they're still sleeping. Anyway, it looks like Emma and J.D. are both under the weather.
Heidi, I love how you put fun stuff on your PODA. I'll be there someday, if I can ever get my act together.
DH is going to seed the lawn...but probably not today, given the weather.
Vonnie, I can relate. I'm a little miffed this morning, so that's all I'd better say about that.
TA DA:
*The meeting was well-attended last night and I got my bumper sticker. He did well with his speech. Warner Robbins has a 23-year-old mayor pro-tem!! He was there to support our candidate.
*I did stay up to get the kitchen clean. The kids had gotten into the cereal and spread it all over the foyer (where I can't sweep for boxes, of course). But at least the kitchen got done. Nobody even cleared their place at the table after supper!

Vonnie--I had the same issue with DH. Now Saturday morning is his designated time with DS3, and I can do anything I want during that time. They usually go on some outing together, and they both look forward to it. DH gets Sunday afternoon to himself. It works for us, but this arrangement might not work with some job schedules.
House is an absolute wreck--need to set my timer and get to it before we go to playgroup. I'm going to drop off my (non-food!!) fling on the way there.
My brother got his orders. He's going to Iraq (likely Baghdad) in October, after some additional training. Still seems a little surreal. Need to plan some trips to see him several times this summer before he goes.
I will keep your brother in my thoughts and prayers - and you, too. You're on a tough emotional road now. My husband is in South Korea this year (2nd Infantry Division) Three months down, 9 to go, we hope. They're pulling one of the 2 brigades from 2ID out of South Korea and sending them to Iraq. So far, my husband has not been tapped and I'm praying that it remains that way.
Joanne/Lark - GO FLAMES GO!! Please scream yourself hoarse for me on Saturday. It's time to bring the Stanley Cup home to Canada, where it belongs
TADA's so far - the usual flying, laundry, dishes, etc. Bonus TADA - made blueberry banana muffins for the resource teacher at DS's school, and volunteered there for an hour pouring coffee for one of their myriad June events.
PODA's - room rescue!! Get this office cleaned up so that I can start sewing some summer clothes!
I'm sitting out enjoying the massive sunshine we're having today. I am so glad the rain didn't visit today. Susannah, I hope you didn't get strong storms. We had some pretty high wind last evening, but no damage; thank goodness.
Just came in to take a potty break. Back to see Mr. Sunshine!
I hope Iraq has calmed down a bit by the time he arrives, and that conditions in general have improved. I'm glad he at least won't have to start out with the worst of the desert weather-- a soldier I met at Borders told me that it's the same climate as SoCal when it isn't summer, so his body will have a chance to ease into it. Unless he lives in Arizona or something, in which case it shouldn't make too much of a difference I guess.
TADA:
-morning routine (mostly)
-wrote out Father's Day cards which DH made yesterday
PODA:
-send Father's Day cards
-check mail
-put away groceries which I didn't put away all of last night
Joanna, praying for your brother's safety, during training and once he ships over.
No rain. The sun came out to stay.
DH went to Athens to get some final supplies for the lawn. But, he went with a buddy, which means they are probably in a movie theater about right now. When he gets home, it's grocery shopping night for me. I hope he comes home before the local stores close; maybe I can get some sale items here in town.
J.D.'s running around naked. Yesterday, he slipped out of the house with his sister and was running around the yard buck naked. I have to wonder what the neighbors think. I don't mind his going naked inside, as it aids the potty training. Regarding which, we have had some successes. I let him go without a diaper two nights in a row with no night-time accidents.
I just kinda relaxed today and didn't do anything on my PODA. Just hung out reading and sitting with the kids. We did straighten up one-half of the living room. Elias (4yo) actually ran the vacuum cleaner! It was such a funny sight. Boys love machinery and he's no exception.
Hello everyone, I havent had time to post but I've been checking in. DD4 has strep throat. Poor baby! She hasnt been sleeping well which means neither have I. Fever finally broke today and she started on antibiotics this afternoon. I havent done any "everyday" cleaning like I should of but DD wanted me to lay down and hold her all day.
Which I loooove doing except that its been 90 degrees and she had a temp. of 101. I could only handle holding her for about 20 min than I would get up and do something nearby. I did get both bathrooms decluttered ,Made an appt for car to get serviced and wheels aligned, Talked to DS10 teacher (found out he got in trouble for his attitude today ),Packed some boxes of linens and frames from my room, Washed some delicates and hung out to dry, and started packing DD toys!! SSHH don't tell! I know by the time she sees them they will be "new" again. Hoping to do the same for boys this week before they are out of school. DS13 is packing his room by himself. Being homeschooled its kind of hard to hide it from him anyway. But I will tell you one thing, I have never seen anyone use so much bubble wrap on a small boom box stereo!
Today was a hectic day. When I went to get DD Rx filled they had me wait 30 min only to tell me that they where out of the medicine but that I could come back in an hour and they would have it. I told them to transfer the Rx to a different store (where my DH works)and came home. Again with DD crying and asking me to make her better!
Than DH came home from work only to ask why the dang house wasnt clean! UUGGHH I could of seriously injured him but instead I walked away and said a prayer for his saftey!
I better go, I apologize for venting but I had to get it off my droopy, nursed 4 children, chest.
LOL DH is trying to show DS10 how to breakdance right now behind me !!!!
I slept until 7:30 and thank you, DD, for getting up at 7:45! So much for any quiet time for me this morning! And I need to get DH up in about half an hour (can someone tell me WHERE I put that dynamite I need to do this?) so he can take two of our dogs to the vet. They both have hot spots and need to have them shaved so we can get the medicine on them as it should be.
To backtrack, last night was great. We went to the Mother-Daughter Banquet and had a great time. I won the very first door prize - a dried flower arrangement. And it matches our bedroom color scheme! Woohoo! The meal was great, too. And the speaker, well just say that there wasn't a dry eye in the house! She spoke about losing her daughter in a tragic car accident when she was only 19. They had a very close relationship and she spoke about that. Her daughter was a VERY talented vocalist and she showed a video of her singing the last special music she did at their church - the Sunday before she died. The song was about dying and going to Heaven and hearing her name called to enter. REally moving story and circumstances. I took my Mother with me and I told her how much I love her and that I was so glad that we, too, had a great relationship and had been like friends from the time I was 14 or 15.
Susannah, I'm glad you didn't get the massive rainstorms we got. And, I laughed until I almost cried about children running out of the house naked! Yesterday, DH's cousin's wife stopped by unannounced and DD was running around the house with only her shirt and undies on. She had taken off her short-alls when she napped and never put them back on. Well, I told our visitor that she was seeing us "as is", because I hadn't cleaned up like I normally do on Fridays and then DD is running around half-dressed. Well, when she went to go, DD tears out of the house to her van to see her boys and husband. I just sighed and told them "she may have come from Russia, but she's all Alabama redneck now!" I'm sure our neighbors wonder about us sometimes!
DH stayed home last night and got DD's swingset painted so it looks brand new now! Hopefully, her pool will warm up today so she can get in it this weekend some. I have an appointment for cut & color (yeah!) this morning at 11 and we are supposed to go to a wedding at 3. I'll bet we end up not making the wedding, simply because DH will let DD play & she won't want to come in to get ready. We'll see. I'd be just as glad not to go, myself. I don't like doing dress-up things like that on Saturdays! How selfish am I?
I worked on my menu system yesterday when I sat outside. I still have so much to do for it to even be workable on a small level. The "pork" section is lacking sorely. And of course, "beef" is running over! I'm a red meat kind of girl! I want to ask DH what his feelings are about eating out with his family every Sunday after church. If he wants to continue this as our "meal out" each week, that is fine. Otherwise, I need to do better about planning to cook dinner every Sunday & actually DO IT! I also want to start having people over especially on Saturday afternoons/evenings because that will keep us home to eat, too. We love to grill, so it shouldn't be a big meal production or anything.
Boy, have I rambled on forever or what? Here's the summary:
PODA:
* Laundry - already have one load about to go to dryer & one to washer
* Get hair done - yippee!!!
* Try to sneak a little window shopping in after I get hair done (appointment is in our mall)
* Work on menu system
* Make menu for this week, grocery list
* Go to grocery store
* Wedding?!?
Yesterday's TADAs:
* Laundry
* Remade DD's bed after nighttime accident & clean up
* Worked at office
* Got everyone ready for banquet - ON TIME!!!
I found this poem in my old, worn favorite cookbook & it reminds me so much of my days now. It's an "oldie but a goodie":
"Husband's Homecoming"
I scrubbed the kitchen floor today,
And washed the woodwork, too.
I refereed the children's play
Until I'm black and blue.
I washed the clothes
And baked a cake
And cleaned the linen closet,
And now I'll just lie down
And take a little teeny rest --
That's just when you
Walk in and say
"So this is what you do all day!"
I really like for my Saturdays and my weekends in general to be more laid-back than today was for us. Nothing major, just running around this morning and then accomplishing NOTHING this afternoon.
Today's TADAs:
* Got my hair done - love it! She put more dark back in it & it looks more natural; also got about 1 1/2 inches cut off
* Sat in the sun for an hour and 15 minutes. Seem to be regaining the tan I was losing because it's been too rainy to go out here
* Made menu plan for the coming week
* Went to grocery store!!!
* Laundry
* Purged DH's old uniforms to make room for new ones; washed new ones and put away
* Cleaned off hot spot on kitchen counter
* Ran dishwasher
* Set coffee pot for tomorrow
* Worked a little more on menu system
Tomorrow is church. DD is still awake, so I'm sure we won't make Sunday School. That's OK with me, though. Maybe I will be up more than 15 minutes before DD gets up tomorrow! She got a short nap today and is up late tonight, so she will probably sleep a little later tomorrow. We'll see!
My coworker had her baby yesterday morning, by the way. They thought she was not as far along as it appears she was, which is good. She had a girl and weighed 5 pounds 6.5 ounces, which I don't think is too bad. They are both doing fine. Mom will probably come home a day or two before baby will.
Y'all have a good evening if anyone checks in here. C-ya!
TADA

watched DH, DS13, and DS12 all come across the finish line of our local 10K. They all finished in under an hour and DS13 won 3rd place in his age group. I was bummed not to be out there with them, but 6 days after the half marathon is just too soon for my knee. Maybe next year.
dropped off frozen lentil stew, cookies, and brownies to my buddy the priest
made a big breakfast
prepped lots of food for later this week
carmelizing onions

sort and put away clean laundry
organize DD3's closet, she had totally ripped it apart and I can't find anything!
finish last 2 report cards
water the morning glories and deadhead the pansies
make dinner: maple-balsamic grilled chicken, sauteed zucchini
Jackie, congratulations on the baby! How exciting.
Susannah, that's great about the lawn. When we were building our lawn was clay too for about a year. The kids used to slide around on it naked like little otters. I was so glad once we had grass though, I know just how you feel.
How fun for you Jo, to watch your "boys" run. That's great! Especially that your sons are already so physically active. As usual, your food sounds great!
Jackie, Alexa is gorgeous! I was snoopy enuf to browse through your albums - very nice! Hope you don't mind.
Vonnie, I know what you mean about weekends. OUrs have been way too busy lately because of baseball. Our whole lives have been way too busy. HOpefully that will ease up soon, we'll see.
WE did hike and picnicked today in a state park near here - a nice outing for all. Flying? Well, laundry is done and put away, and I emptied the dw. Oh and grocery shopped. Hoping that DH will make dinner, something with shrimp.
Your food I mean-- the cranberry cookies and the maple chicken with zucchini.
We actually did our Family Fun Day last night at DH's behest; Fatal Attraction was on TV, so we both watched it for the first time. It was pretty good. I think the movie probably would have been better if we didn't already know what happened in it, but it was good anyway.
Also I didn't get the mail yesterday. Oooh, decadent. That was my Shabbat! Next week and the week after, though, I will go to Temple, because those are the farewell services for this one rabbi I like. I will try to go to both the Friday evening and Saturday morning services, but I feel self-conscious on Saturday mornings because it's always someone's bar or bat mitzvah celebration and I always think I'm intruding, even though I know I am supposed to be there.
PODA:
-study my music books
-run dishes
-meatloaf for dinner, or possibly spaghetti and meat sauce, I haven't decided
-vacuum the UPSTAIRS (been a while)
-laundry
-get mail
Jackie, I loved all of your photo albums. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful and so are you! I love the way you decorated Alexa's room. It looks like something right out of HGTV's Decorating Cents (my favorite show).
Joanne/Lark, sorry about the game last night. It was a nailbiter right to the end. There will still be a huge party in Calgary tomorrow night!
DS6 and I had a fun and relaxing weekend. Yesterday, we went to the Aquazoo in Alexandria Bay, NY, played in a lovely town park, took in a quilt show, and played a little basketball in the driveway. Good times for both of us!
This morning we went to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban. It's a great movie, very well done. While no director could truly do justice to JK Rowling's work, this came as close as possible. I dare say that Michael Gambon brings more sparkle to the role of Dumbledore than the late Richard Harris.
Life is so much easier with Flylady in it. Before I started flying, I felt like I was spinning my wheels all the time, and I was always frustrated. I still backslide, but it's so much easier to get back on track now.
I really liked that movie Becky - I remember seeing it years ago.
Rose, interesting! WE were tossing around the idea of a short family getaway this summer after our BIG long family trip out west and Thousand Islands is a possibility along with Toronto, Boston, etc. That place looks interesting - would you recomend it for a 5 and 7 year old?
Andrea, I would definitely recommend a trip to the Aquazoo for your kids. It isn't very big, but there are a good number of exhibits, including some hands-on ones. Under supervision, they can pinky-touch a small shark, a starfish, corals, and a sea cucumber. There are dozens, if not more than 100, different types of fish on display. With each display, there is a good descriptive/educational sign. Most of the aquariums are inside, so it's not a weather-dependent destination.
Let me know if you're headed this way!
Rose
Wow, that sounds cool! That area is a definite possibility - we are probably looking at staying in a cabin or hotel for 2 or 3 nights and seeing the sights. Thanks for the info Rose!
I don't have anything to post, much. We went to a park with our entire congregation today after the meeting, and the kids had a blast getting soaked in the creek, hunting crawdads, etc. I'm tired tonight, though. My mother was there, and she really helped me look after the kids. She gave me a gift for my wedding anniversary. A new set of sheets! I'm thrilled, I've been wanting that forever.
I snooped too and Alexa is a darling.
I haven't done much around here. I washed a million dishes last night, it seemed, getting ready for the picnic. But I'm right back where I started tonight. Got lotsa laundry to fold out there.
Tomorrow I'm going to launch a second attempt at the Weekly Home Blessing. I really need to pay bills too.
Love y'all!
Susannah

I'm actually looking forward to the week!
I cleaned out my big Craft Closet!! WooHoo!! I am so happy I did that, it's been on my PODA for so long it was embarassing. It was one of those jobs that you don't know where to start!
I also went through some frames that I was going to paint and such (premove) but now I tossed em so I don't have to deal with it anymore. I've done laundry and have been packing winter clothes and putting a lot into a donate box. Still have a lot to do.
I decluttered my bathroom and took everything out of the kids bathroom except the minimal.
My Sister17 and Sister25 came over yesterday with my nephew6. My sister17 had a quilt to make for her final project. She had to make a square representing each of the books they had to read this year, 6 total. So I showed her fusible webbing!! She used my machine and my fabrics and made one. It came out pretty good. What impressed me most was how she used the color red to tie all the books together. For example Red for blood (Red Badge of Courage). I wish I could of made a quilt for a final project I would of kicked Butt!! Sister 25 set out to feed me all day! Than at the end of the day she cleaned my kitchen ! She told me she was going to come and visit every weekend until We move!!
It's slowly setting in that I'm really moving and leaving my family behind. My sister is already planning to come up this Winter. she said she will buy the tickets when escrow closes!!
Speaking of escrow. I haven't mentioned anything about the house we found but we are waiting for a response from the sellers regarding the inspection report about what they will fix and won't fix. As soon as the negotiating is done, I will post some pictures. Please pray that everything goes smoothly.
Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow. I have to take my car in to get serviced and to get it aligned. My tires wore out and it only has 23000 miles on it!? Hopefully it won't take that long! My mom is meeting me down there so maybe we will have a chance to visit and take DD4 to the park.
Off to fold more laundry!
Little note~ DH is headspinning behind me (form of breakdancing)
The reason all the breakdancing has been going on this weekend has been because they rented You Got Served, a movie about breakdancing. I haven't seen it but DH and boys have seen it about 4 times already. DS10 is learning how to breakdance. DH grew up breakdancing so he's loving showing DS10. BIL films breakdancing competitions and makes videos to sell. My sister usually goes and takes my kids and our siblings. They have a blast the competetions last until midnight and then a huge group of them go to breakfast so they usually dont get home until around 3am!
Edited to say~ Susannah Congrats on your sheets!! I love getting new sheets. My mom gave me some for Christmas and I was just thinking yesterday that the "newness" is gone! If I were a billionare I would have Brand Spanken New sheets on my bed every week!!
I had a system, two kids and two moves ago. The system is somewhere in a box downstairs, with more papers floating around. Three kiddos underfoot, two special needs, very little help at this moment, I'm overwhelmed. That's why I'm back here. I use my planner ALOT now. Would be lost without it. I have a couple of file BOXES on the first kid, divided into education in class, education in special needs (IEPs, evals, etc.), medical evals/test results, and medical insurance. Then extras on signlanguage, cochlear implants. I had a three ring binder on local/national resources, and then my catchall planner. Now I need to put that back together, times two. Ugh.
Okay, back to task. DH is asking me for something I have no time for, so nix the gym and groceries, we'll order take out. When the boys are playing in back, I will get my workout by shoveling dirt, doing yardwork.
Need to simplify my life, task list today. Housework, dinner. There. Easy enough?
Just catching up on posts you all have been so busy!!!!
Today my good friend and I went down to the dungeon to sort! We worked all day I took 8 huge bags to GoodWill and there is lots more to come. We sorted all Christmas decorations which to sort, which go to Trinidad and which one DS wants for his place. Next we will work on fall and Easter. The rest of the house has fallen apart but I will do a quick pick-up then off to bed!
We are planning to go to Trinidad the last week of June for a house hunting trip. I am very curious to see where I will live next. I am trying to remenber "Bloom where you are planted"!
Hi everyone, been busy this morning so far! I have someone coming later today to patch the bathroom ceiling from water damage it is not really a big job but a messy one. Karin, I felt great getting rid of those decorations blessing someone else with them. My friend that helped me was great she is brutal she could be on Clean Sweep she loves to de-junk and she giving me another day next week . Plus it is always more fun to work togther.
I am off now to take everything out of the bathroom and I am going to be throwing out anything we don't need!
Oh, has anyone had a vacation in New York City? DH and I think we will take a vacation there in Aug. before we leave the country we would like to stay in the city and do lots of things our children each have a list they want to do. Any advice on hotels, sights and restaurants would be appreciated!
Thanks for the reply Becky, I think we will plan to be there around a week including some driving time. We have two children a DS 21 and DD 15 so they would like to go to MTV at Times Square they would like to see TRL (?) we thought a play and maybe a baseball game. A little shopping would be nice and some art galleries. I picked up a few brochures on hotels etc. I will post some of the names and locations if you don't mind letting me know what you think of them.
I know that the heat will be there but we lived in North Africa (libya) so we are know what to expect I think!
Good news for your family Jackie what a sweet name for a little girl!
I hope everyone 's getting lots done.
Just checking in everyone is very busy ,Susannah I am always in awe of how much you have to do in a day! Vonnie is that not the worst when they don't have a good sleep my DD was a delightful child except when we had to wake her then she turned into a witch! She is still like that now if I have to wake her or she doesn't have enough sleep.
Things are coming along here the painter is here painting the fences and the bathroom ceiling is now scraped and taped. I feel now that I am getting a grip on this moving. A huge load went to the dump today!!! Now we just have to get through DH surgery next Thursday. I will bring a good book to the hospital.
DD is on a white water rafting trip today and tomorrow and the weather is great sunny and warm she will have a great time.
Well off to do groceries in the middle of all this moving, I forgot we do need to eat ,imagine that!!
Sunny, warm day here in Calgary today! Our hockey team won last night so everyone is happy. Sat is the big game and we have tickets!
Things are coming along here, the fences are painted and the yard work done and the ceiling in bathroom patched! The house never looked at nice as now! Of course now we are selling it.
PODA:
-attend high school grad ceromonies this morning
-lunch with friend,DS and graduate
-tidy house
-laundry
-meal plan for weekend
-pick DD from school trip around dinner
Heidi have a fun day at lunch, and shopping, Vonnie have nice evening at your banquet. Susannah I hope the weather clears for yard work.Everyone else hope you have a productive day.
A little footnote my husband is the worst at last minute arrivals I used get myself and two children ready for a outing and he would breeze in at the last minute! He still continues to do it but I have mellowed so I can keep my stress level done! Next week he is flying to South America for a meeting he will fly Monday, meeting Tuesday, fly back Wed. and Thursday be in the hospital to get his gall-bladder surgery. Talk about down to the wire. I try not to get to worked up about it. He assured me they will be no problems lol.
If you have more beef meals than pork meals that you like, just have beef twice some weeks. If you have lean beef and lean pork, their nutritional value is practically identical, so why not? Pork IS red meat, despite what the pork board or whatever they are called wants you to think with their "other white meat" ads, so there is no reason not to substitute lean beef (pork is a bit leaner than regular beef) for it.
I feel so excited for you, Joanne! Congratulations on getting so much sorted today. Eight huge bags is a lot of poundage! It must feel great to accomplish something.
I don't know what TRL is! I hope this doesn't mean I suddenly have become really un-cool in the space of 6 years (I am 27, so I'm going by the difference between my age and your DS's age). I don't know the hotels all that well since I was living in an apartment, but I can figure out what locations are convenient. I was there in 1998-1999 so I don't know what all is located around Ground Zero any more, but my sister was there 2000-2003 so she can tell me about downtown stuff.
If you were in Libya, NYC should be fine (though NYC is much more humid from what I hear about N. Africa).
Well, I mean the extrapolation from the OT was *completely* off the wall. "Religious fundamentalists" in this country do NOT have that kind of vision for the future, I can assure you! LOL!
Before she wrote "The Handmaid's Tale", she had travelled in Afghanistan with her husband and child. Even before the Taliban, women wore burkas (sp?). I think her whole experience there really influenced the book.
Christian fundamentalism does not advocate the political subjection of women. Yes, there is a doctrine of submission *within* the family found in the NT, but that does not extend to all women submitting to all men. On the contrary, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." (So says the apostle Paul.) This book intentionally equates Christian fundamentalism with Muslim fundamentalism and they are vastly different. It's a common enough scare tactic. (Please note: I am not a "fundamentalist," although Ms. Atwood would no doubt equate me with one since I take the Bible at face value. But I differ on several key theological matters, particularly cessationism.)
How weird is it to cherry-pick a story about Abraham *disbelieving* God's covenantal promise (i.e. giving in to his wife's prodding and trying to arrange it all himself by sleeping with the handmaid), and use that to structure a story about a supposed future under fundamentalist rule? This lady apparently never went to Sunday School.
I went out and refreshed my memory...I think the title of the book is based on the jealous bickering between Rachel and Leah, using their servants to bear children for them. Even more egregious misuse of scripture!
Of the book, not of the theology (being neither Christian nor Muslim, nor a scholar of religion, I am not going to interpret the religious issues-- my tradition has its own ideas about the handmaids' tales in the Hebrew Scriptures). My interpretation of the book was that a fringe group which started with a Christian fundamentalist branch, and then turned into something else, had taken over the US. Those "Bible-based cults" do, in fact, exist today; they fortunately do not have a lot of military power, although some of them have bunkers and a small stockpile of weapons. However, the Tai Ping Rebellion in China was led by a military movement which had definitely started as a fringe branch of Christianity, and they continued to claim to be Christians long after the rest of "Christendom," as it was called then, stopped claiming them.
That’s true; it’s a futuristic novel, so that leaves room for supposition. Obviously wacko cults distort the Bible all the time. How likely it is they would gain political power is another story.
Still, this is just my perspective, and maybe I'm overly suspicious, but I couldn’t help but get the impression that Atwood scanned the Bible, found a story that bothered her feminist sensibility, plucked it out and thought, "Hmmm, let’s pretend some of those wacko Bible-believing Christians got control and used this as a pretext to subjugate women." When I read the book I thought, "Huh?" This is not a prescriptive story, it’s descriptive...that is, it’s not telling us how to behave, it’s telling us how Jacob’s children came to be. Any "fundamentalist" would know that instinctively. I think it would have been far more believable to extrapolate from an existing extremism like Reconstructionism. With its dominion theology and stoning penalties for everything from homosexuality to adultery, its brave new world would have looked a good deal more like Afghanistan than the Republic of Gilead did.
O-kay Waaaay OT! Sorry folks! I'll get back to flying.
Seriously though, as a formerly scholarly person knee-deep in diapers it is sooooo nice to come upon women who excercise their minds while raising their children!! I haven't got the hang of that yet. You ladies inspire me.

Holiday Mondays Arent's So Bad
* Go to grocery store
Vonnie
Vonnie, sounds like you've go
Vonnie, sounds like you've got your OWN Flylady testimonial going on there.
Whatever.
MUST PODA!
Jul
Thank you, Vonnie.
Vonnie, I liked, no NEEDED to read your post so much I may print it out for inspiration through today. Thank you. This is exactly why I'm plugging back in here. Thank you.

Inspiration
I alm
Have a good one.
Vonnie
Still motivated.
--Karin
you go girl!!
Amee
Yay, all of you!
Love y'all!
Susannah
I'm around!
I am on vacation though.
The house is looking okay. DH was motivated to help more since we had a colleague coming over for a rehearsal yesterday!
PODA (because I slept late):
-run errands
-pay rent
-do routines
"sidetrackedness"
I like it!
My favorite is "nest-worthy"
Super Fling
Everyone is doing so well
Great job Susannah!!!
My challenge this week is to finish my master bath. A girlfriend and I started stripping wallpaper about a month ago--and I have done NOTHING since. All the tools are there, but I just need to do it.
Wish me luck!
It's Nice to Skip Monday!
* Make DD's lunch
* Review today's to do list
* Make DD's bed when she gets up
* Get DD ready for school
* Breakfast
After we get back from work/school --
* Get DD down for her nap
* Finish up laundry
* Sweep floors
Light load today. I need to see what I put on the menu that looks good for tonight. Maybe Spicy Lime Chicken. I'm in a chicken kind of mood.
Y'all have a great one!
Vonnie

meeting 7-9pm
Gonna get started here.
See you all later.
Heidi
Susannah, I think I feel the
Susannah, I think I feel the same.
--Karin
Karin, you and I are on the same wavelength
Susannah
Hola Chicas!
Amee
Okay, let's try again.

Good Afternoon! TADA libr
Good Afternoon!
TADA
Heidi
Wallpaper
Heidi--I'm going to paint the walls once the wallpaper is down. I'm a big fan of paint these days
Vonnie--I need to use your technique on computer time. It's a huge time sink for me
TaDa's
Returned some outdoor ceiling fans that I will never get around to installing. It felt good to let that project go, and especially to get the money back!
Grocery shopped
Installed clothesline, and hung my first load. My grandma would be proud
I always feel like she's with me when I'm doing something that she would have done (gardening, canning, etc.)
Now I need to get my you know what in gear!!!
JoannaC
Tomorrow's My Day!!!
LOL!!
I'll probably check back in before bed.
Cya!
Vonnie
It's backwards day
I got up and ran errands in my more-or-less PJs (shorts and t-shirt, in which I'd slept). Now I have to shower and get dressed "for real." I haven't eaten because DH finished off the peach crisp for breakfast, which was supposed to be our breakfast to share.
I need to do some cooking today.
PODA:
-handwashing underwear and a "delicate" shirt
-kitchen routine
-fix some beans for tomorrow's chili
-start sourdough bread for tomorrow

The Kansas Room.
Yeah...

Hump Day Is Here!
* Sweep floors
Well, I'm sitting here with a towel on my hair & not dressed, so I need to run. I want to get off to a good start today.
C-ya later!
Vonnie
Guten Morgen.

Hi, all!

I had a baby girl!!!!!
Jackie-WOW,Cngratulations To
Jackie-WOW,Cngratulations To You. What a beautiful name too. Glad that all is well, try to rest and fly in tiny bursts. You need your energy when the high wears off. Best of luck...
Heidi
Whew!!
* Transferred 44 lb. dog food to plastic container we keep it in
* Fed puppies and dogs
And if the sun will stay out:
* Play outside on new swingset with DD!!!!!
Y'all have a good afternoon. 'Night 'Night.

I just love love girls ,,,so much funnnn
Vonnie,I think maybe your friend from school is not really very happy herself so her plan was to make you feel bad,,,,glad it didn't work
Heidi,,good going on the potty training!! keep it up ,,it'll happen
Karin,,,so glad to see you back
my big tada is I got three free applications from my lawn service. The BAD part is that the guy sprayed my garden and killed my beans and tomatoes
:( I didn't have to put up a fight the manager came out and saw the damage. I told him I could have gotten a lot of FOOD out of the garden and my heart went into the planting and growing. So thats 120.00 bucks. We are taking a credit with a promise to do a better job.
tada
DDs off to school,,,DD16 back at 11:30 only had two finals today
painted two coats [light muave] in the upstairs hallway,,,had already done doors in white
bought new plants for garden,,,,with high hopes
can't mow lawn,,,raining,,its a monsoon her lately
keep up the good work everyone
congratulations Jackie!
Congratulations Jackie!!!
Alexa is a beautiful name. I'm glad that everyone is doing well.
Best wishes
Rose

Ds and DH went to look at a used vehicle so DH doesn't have to drive a huge work truck around all the time, hope it works out.
kittycat-bummer on losing the veggie plants but at least the company was good about their mistake. I know what you mean about all this rain. The good thing is water bills should be lower as far as needing to sprinkle the lawn or water flowers.
Joanne-NYC is so much fun, hope you enjoy it.
Hello to everyone else....
Got The Handmaid's Tale at the library the other day and want to start it. Anyone read it?
Well gonna run.
See you all in the morning.
Heidi
Hi!
Congrats Jackie! Sounds like you are doing great!
I'm off to bed
Andrea
Congratulations Jackie!
Good night, sleep tight!
Love,
Susannah
Good Morning All!
My PODA:
* Work at office 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
* Get a hair appointment for cut & color
* Call SIL regarding child dedication at our church
* Print out my menu forms at work and reduce size
* Laundry
Have a great day!
C-ya!
Vonnie
Smiles for Alexa!
...and blessings on Mom and Dad, too! "Well done," Jackie!
Lenora
Hmmm...
I cannot forget tomorrow's dr. appt.
Love,
Susannah
Hi Flyfriends!!
Here is a link to a webpage I made for Alexa. Hopefully it works...
http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/b/babyduejune15/
the password is tigerlilly and email is JKy4366@aol.com
I hope it works. Thanks for all your well wishes. We are doing great today, had our first dr visit and she gained 1 and 1/2 ounces which is good because I waas worried about the breastfeeding.
Have a great day
Love Jackie
Power Outage
Off to fridge-land...
JoannaC
good luck with the fling Joanna!
I'm glad your meat and milk pulled through.
Now that I've flitted around giving OT replies to everyone's posts, I should post something relevant.
TADA:
-paid bills
-wrote a TY note
PODA:
-send Father's Day cards (DH is making them, bless him)
-vacuum
-buy groceries and cat litter
-clean catboxes
Good Evening! DD and I sta
Good Evening!
Best get DD in the tub. See you all tomorrow.
Heidi
Checking in
That's great Heidi!
Have a restful nite everyone!
Andrea
Good Morning!!!
And a good morning it is!! Not only is it Friday, but the sun is scheduled to shine today AND tomorrow!!!
Today' PODA:
* Work at office 9:00 - 12:00
* Get DD to preschool & picked up on time
* Laundry
Vonnie
Good Morning! PODA shower
Good Morning!
PODA
shower and dress
go to the new mall and lunch with friend WITHOUT my DD
put away laundry
mow backyard or possibly Saturday
read paper
read book
dinner
no homework
video or game night
Vonnie-my DH assumes I will always be available to be with the kids when he wants to go somewhere or run errands. But the trouble is I am the one who IS always available!! All this will be altered in 2 years when BOTH kids are in school full time and the evenings get more hectic with double the homework and double the playdates and double the after school activities! Not looking foward to that craziness...
Better hit the shower,my mom is due here in an hour.
Take Care.
Heidi
Mornin!
TA DA:
He did well with his speech. Warner Robbins has a 23-year-old mayor pro-tem!! He was there to support our candidate.
But at least the kitchen got done. Nobody even cleared their place at the table after supper!
*The meeting was well-attended last night and I got my bumper sticker.
*I did stay up to get the kitchen clean. The kids had gotten into the cereal and spread it all over the foyer (where I can't sweep for boxes, of course).
PODA:
Homeschool
Clean up the house
Do laundry
As always!

This and that
Still digging out a little.
See y'all!
JoannaC
{{{JoannaC}}}
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Cheers
Rose
I'm sitting out enjoying the
I'm sitting out enjoying the massive sunshine we're having today. I am so glad the rain didn't visit today. Susannah, I hope you didn't get strong storms. We had some pretty high wind last evening, but no damage; thank goodness.
Just came in to take a potty break. Back to see Mr. Sunshine!
Vonnie
best of luck to Joanna's brother
Checking in!
Off to get baby; I hear her fussing.
Love,
Susannah
What a week
Hello everyone, I havent had time to post but I've been checking in. DD4 has strep throat. Poor baby! She hasnt been sleeping well which means neither have I. Fever finally broke today and she started on antibiotics this afternoon. I havent done any "everyday" cleaning like I should of but DD wanted me to lay down and hold her all day.
,Made an appt for car to get serviced and wheels aligned, Talked to DS10 teacher (found out he got in trouble for his attitude today
),Packed some boxes of linens and frames from my room, Washed some delicates and hung out to dry, and started packing DD toys!!
Which I loooove doing except that its been 90 degrees and she had a temp. of 101. I could only handle holding her for about 20 min than I would get up and do something nearby. I did get both bathrooms decluttered
Breakdancing...
now THERE'S a blast from the past! That must be a cute picture. I hope tomorrow is better, Amee!

So Much For Some Quiet Time!
* Work on menu system
* Make menu for this week, grocery list
* Go to grocery store
* Wedding?!?
Yesterday's TADAs:
* Laundry
* Remade DD's bed after nighttime accident & clean up
* Worked at office
* Got everyone ready for banquet - ON TIME!!!
I've talked enough. See you all later!

I found this poem in my old,
I found this poem in my old, worn favorite cookbook & it reminds me so much of my days now. It's an "oldie but a goodie":
"Husband's Homecoming"
I scrubbed the kitchen floor today,
And washed the woodwork, too.
I refereed the children's play
Until I'm black and blue.
I washed the clothes
And baked a cake
And cleaned the linen closet,
And now I'll just lie down
And take a little teeny rest --
That's just when you
Walk in and say
"So this is what you do all day!"
Ahhhh, this is my life...
End of A Hectic Saturday
I really like for my Saturdays and my weekends in general to be more laid-back than today was for us. Nothing major, just running around this morning and then accomplishing NOTHING this afternoon.
Today's TADAs:
* Got my hair done - love it! She put more dark back in it & it looks more natural; also got about 1 1/2 inches cut off
* Sat in the sun for an hour and 15 minutes. Seem to be regaining the tan I was losing because it's been too rainy to go out here
* Made menu plan for the coming week
* Went to grocery store!!!
* Laundry
* Purged DH's old uniforms to make room for new ones; washed new ones and put away
* Cleaned off hot spot on kitchen counter
* Ran dishwasher
C-ya!

one load of dishes
watched DH, DS13, and DS12 all come across the finish line of our local 10K.
3 loads of laundry
PODA
4 more loads of laundry
another load of dishes
make oatmeal/orange/cranberry cookies
sort and put away clean laundry
organize DD3's closet, she had totally ripped it apart and I can't find anything!
finish last 2 report cards
water the morning glories and deadhead the pansies
make dinner: maple-balsamic grilled chicken, sauteed zucchini
Jackie, congratulations on the baby! How exciting.
Susannah, that's great about the lawn. When we were building our lawn was clay too for about a year. The kids used to slide around on it naked like little otters. I was so glad once we had grass though, I know just how you feel.
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend ladies!

HI all! How fun for you Jo
HI all!
Busy week ahead so I need to stay organized.
Andrea
VERY New England Jo
-vacuum the UPSTAIRS (been a while)
-laundry
-get mail
I'm snoopy too :)
Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.
Cheers
Rose
Movie
I really liked that movie Becky - I remember seeing it years ago.
Rose, interesting! WE were tossing around the idea of a short family getaway this summer after our BIG long family trip out west and Thousand Islands is a possibility along with Toronto, Boston, etc. That place looks interesting - would you recomend it for a 5 and 7 year old?
I'm off -
Andrea
Aquazoo
Andrea, I would definitely recommend a trip to the Aquazoo for your kids. It isn't very big, but there are a good number of exhibits, including some hands-on ones. Under supervision, they can pinky-touch a small shark, a starfish, corals, and a sea cucumber. There are dozens, if not more than 100, different types of fish on display. With each display, there is a good descriptive/educational sign. Most of the aquariums are inside, so it's not a weather-dependent destination.
Let me know if you're headed this way!
Rose
Wow, that sounds cool! That
Wow, that sounds cool! That area is a definite possibility - we are probably looking at staying in a cabin or hotel for 2 or 3 nights and seeing the sights. Thanks for the info Rose!

Scanning...scanning...
I can't keep up with you Chatty Cathys.
Love y'all!

Busy Weekend
Than at the end of the day she cleaned my kitchen
New Week, New Goals, New Thread...
Welcome to a new week...
System?

Checking in
Hi everyone,
Just catching up on posts you all have been so busy!!!!
Off to bed
Joanne
Good-Morning
Good-Morning,
Hi everyone, been busy this morning so far!
Off to clean more (this is becoming a habit) lol
Joanne
Thanks
Joanne
Checking In
Hello,
Just checking in everyone is very busy ,Susannah I am always in awe of how much you have to do in a day!
Take care everyone
Joanne
LOL
"Nappy" is British for "diaper."
not THAT paranoid
The Handmaid's Tale was paranoid for North America, but the situation in it was very close to life under the Taliban until recently!
Good Morning
Good Morning,
Sunny, warm day here in Calgary today!
Have a great day everyone
Joanne
go with your preferences
If you have more beef meals than pork meals that you like, just have beef twice some weeks. If you have lean beef and lean pork, their nutritional value is practically identical, so why not? Pork IS red meat, despite what the pork board or whatever they are called wants you to think with their "other white meat" ads, so there is no reason not to substitute lean beef (pork is a bit leaner than regular beef) for it.
What an adventure!
I feel so excited for you, Joanne! Congratulations on getting so much sorted today. Eight huge bags is a lot of poundage! It must feel great to accomplish something.
TRL?
I don't know what TRL is! I hope this doesn't mean I suddenly have become really un-cool in the space of 6 years (I am 27, so I'm going by the difference between my age and your DS's age). I don't know the hotels all that well since I was living in an apartment, but I can figure out what locations are convenient. I was there in 1998-1999 so I don't know what all is located around Ground Zero any more, but my sister was there 2000-2003 so she can tell me about downtown stuff.
If you were in Libya, NYC should be fine (though NYC is much more humid from what I hear about N. Africa).
Well, I mean the extrapolatio
Well, I mean the extrapolation from the OT was *completely* off the wall. "Religious fundamentalists" in this country do NOT have that kind of vision for the future, I can assure you! LOL!
TRL
means Total Request Live. It's on MTV M-F at 5pm Eastern.
If you live in California, you're already cool enough
Worry not!
Rose
Afghanistan
Before she wrote "The Handmaid's Tale", she had travelled in Afghanistan with her husband and child. Even before the Taliban, women wore burkas (sp?). I think her whole experience there really influenced the book.
Great, but...
Actually...
I went out and refreshed my memory...I think the title of the book is based on the jealous bickering between Rachel and Leah, using their servants to bear children for them. Even more egregious misuse of scripture!
another interpretation
That’s true; it’s a futur
Another reason I lurk (not post) on these threads....
Y'all are too darn smart!!!
Seriously though, as a formerly scholarly person knee-deep in diapers it is sooooo nice to come upon women who excercise their minds while raising their children!! I haven't got the hang of that yet. You ladies inspire me.
Sorry to interrupt!!
