Mondays are Marvelous,

right? Yeah, OK. I start dreading them on Sunday evenings. It's not that I expect today to be a bad day, I just enjoyed the lazy weekend too much.

My PODA for today:

* Laundry - one load is drying & one washing now
* Work at office 8:45 - 11:45
* DD has doctor appointment at 2:15
* Do a quick pick-up this afternoon to keep house looking good
* Call jeweler to check on sizing of ring

DD is still asleep. I can't believe it. Today we have to get up and get her to my Mom's so I can go to work & she's not up yet. Yesterday, she didn't need to get up until 8 a.m. & she was up at 6! Is this typical or what??

Well, this is a very boring post, but it's all I've got! You all have a great day!

get gift cert for bday party DS will attend this Sat.

My DD is still asleep too, which is quite rare being that it is almost 9am. She usually rises around 7-7:30. HMMMM... wonder if she is getting a cold?

Happy New Week!

Morning all, glad to be back at the computer for a new week.

Nicole, thanks for the cleaning tip. I'll have to get some Dawn and try it!

Jackie, I'll weigh in and say that I did demand feeding. The exception with DD1 is that she could go 5 or 6 hours sometimes during the day without reminding me that she needed to eat! So in that sense I did watch the clock. But normally that isn't a problem!

DD5 fell into a nice regular routine somewhere between 4 and 6 months. She had 2 long naps (2 hours each!), woke up around the same time every day, and so we nursed around that for a very regular schedule that just developed on its own. Around a year she went to one nice long nap a day at the same time. Extremely easy! Nursed her for 28 months.

DD1 has been extremely irregular. She just never slept for the first 4 months or so, and so she was on a very erratic schedule. If she was sleeping, I let her sleep. If I thought nursing would help her sleep, I nursed her, wherever, whenever. (But she is just less hungry than my first, and does not let you know when she is hungry.) Somewhere around 9 months or so we got into a pattern of one nice nap a day, around noon. Sometimes it last 90 minutes, sometimes it lasts 3 1/2 hours!

With DD5, my pediatrician told me that if she did not start developing a "schedule" for herself around 4-6 months, then it would be time to start working on it. Luckily she took care of it on her own.

With DD1 we now have a different pediatrician, but we were so out-of-whack that we missed the 6 month appointment. But this Dr. was very low-key laid back about schedules. Just let each baby be who she is, was the attitude.

I never had a baby who demanded to be fed hourly, or even every 2 hours (except during a growth spurt), so maybe if you found yourself in that situation you would want to handle things differently.

OK, speaking of babies, better go check on mine!

Shaun

Tigerlilly's picture

Thanks for all your great advice!

You girls are the best. I was leaning toward demand feeding, but the scheduler in me was trying to take over. I guess one big thing to always remind myself is to go with the flow, and that is what you guys all told me. I guess I am so used to my daily scheduling, Monday pay bills, Tues get gas, blah blah blah but I need to let go of my rigid scheduling and just enjoy the baby. And like you guys said the baby will put him/herself on their own schedule. And I definitely value the opinions of all of you, thanks again.

Back to work today, YUCK!! But I did get in some quick tadas:
~finished laundry from yesterday. Bad girl left clothes overnight in dryer.
~set up MS money this am on my laptop.
~unloaded dishwasher, made bed, made lunch for DH
~wrote out another 10 thankyous, just have to have Mom email me my list of addresses
thats all folks... Smiling Have a great day- Love Jackie

Hi Flybabies!

Amee, my 8yo has had leg pains off and on for the last few years. I think it's normal to have growing pains at that age.

On my TA DA’s:
*Homescooled. That’s always a biggie.
*Somewhere in the middle of science lesson, bathed, diapered and dressed baby. Now that’s multi-tasking.
*Lunch
*Letters downloaded from e-mail and one fax sent per DH’s instructions

On my PODA:
*Re-try the other fax
*Eat something decent
*Weekly Home Blessing

In between holding baby and butt-wiping, and all the other usual stuff.

I’m not sure how to do the WHB with everything a shambles, but I’m going to try. Maybe I can enlist the kids’ help.

Love y'all!

Susannah

Drinkin' rum and Coca-Cola...

And etc. A paean to your next home, Joanne. Smiling

TA DA's are:
*Sent two more faxes
*Took four armloads of toys back upstairs
*Re-folded a tipped-over basket of laundry
*Swept up hamster food
*Vacuumed carpets
*Sent noisy children upstairs
*Started supper
*Nursed baby
*Put away homeschool books (yes, I'm listing EVERYTHING!)

SLUG
*Did not eat something decent. Eagerly anticipating supper.

Still need to do WHB...

Good Evening! Dinner and h

Good Evening!

Dinner and homework are done...yippee.

wow,Trinidad sounds exotic. I have been to the Bahamas so I am guessing they may be similar? How fun.

Susannah- I have days when i want to count every little thing as a TADA too. It would be amazingly long to see all things listed from when we awake til we fall asleep, huh?

Did the 2 food store runs today, gassed up van(at $2.03 per gal.),and piddled around the house, read some of my book, etc.

Amee- never thought of a growth spurt but that could very well be,she slept alot
this afternoon too,no fever or complaints so I am just letting it do its thing.

well,I'm off for real now.

See ya.

Heidi

Ameeqt's picture

wow only $2.03!

OURS IS $2.35 PER GALLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANT WAIT TO MOVE OUT OF CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"THEY" say the price will go to 3.00 dollars a gallon this summer!!!!!

Too Tired to Enjoy the Quiet

That's just sad, isn't it? I look forward to my "me" time after DD goes to bed every night and now I'm too tired to read or surf the net or anything. Mondays ALWAYS wipe me out for some reason.

My TADAs today:

* Worked at office 8:30-11:45
* Did laundry, folded, hung & put away
* Called jeweler and ring won't be ready until Friday (DH is furious)
* Took DD to eye doctor appointment - passed w/flying colors!
* Spent afternoon splashing in pool with DD
* Got DD in bed on time!
* Picked out clothes to wear tomorrow

And now I'm going to go put my own weary bones down to rest.

C-ya in the 'morn!

Vonnie

Susannah's picture

$1.86 in GA

Hmmm, not too bad, comparatively. "They" say the variation in gas prices is because of state tax.

I'm tired too, Vonnie. Oughta be; it's after midnight

I had high hopes for the creamy ziti tonight, but the kids ended up feeding the garbage can again. Well, I'm going to keep on with Saving Dinner for DH and me, and they can get with the plan or go hungry.

TA DA:
*Cleaned up the kitchen
*Got kids in bed, rather late, tho'
*Set up girls' notebooks
*Washed muddy shoes
*Set up my "Self-care" cups & counters
*Wrote a long-term to-do list
*Took out 3 bags garbage

SLUG:
*No WHB today

See you in tomorrow. Oh wait, it is tomorrow! Smiling

also because of varying regulations

Because the smog in CA is so bad, we have laws about having cleaner-burning gas, which is more expensive than dirtier gas.

Vonnie's picture

Surprises Abound!

And not of the good variety, either. DH said it took him over an hour to get home because his truck kept overheating. So, I have to wake him up at 12:00 noon so we can get it to the garage. He said he hopes it can be fixed for $600 or less. Sheez! I was thinking $200! Oh well, about the time you think you're making progress, something always happens!

Today's PODA:

* Work at office 8:45 - 11:45
* Deposit at credit union
* Help DH get his truck to garage for repair
* Contact social worker to get firm date/time on post-placement visit

Well, I'm sitting here in my robe with a towel on my head, so I need to scoot!

You all have a good day!

Diving in to today...

I stayed up way too late on the internet. I'm not even going to admit how late. I'll have to remove beans for that one. Smiling Oh, I don't have any beans yet.

On my PODA:
*Homeschool
*Laundry
*Clean hall bath/cat pan
*Paper clutter (esp. in my bedroom)
*Talk to DH about watching kids tomorrow night while I attend the play of a friend's son.

I'm thinking about getting into a campaign for a candidate to state legislature in a neighboring district. Even tho' it isn't my own district, he seems like a real decent guy and a friend at church is his campaign manager. I have to brag about her: she has five children, younger than mine and closer together, the latest only 3mo! She recently hosted the 4th largest party for the president in the state and got to meet the president last Monday. She's got a high position in the state committee & is also going to NY as a delegate. I'd like to help her in what little ways I can, even if it's just stuffing envelopes or calling or whatever.

Best of luck campaigning Susa

Hi All!

Just checking in--I've been a bit of a slacker this week.

Susannah: I'm considering the "eat this or starve" approach with DS3.5!

TADA's
- Campaign fundraiser party (at our house) is over, without too much impact on the house Smiling Kids did mess up guest room pretty badly, so need to clean it up.
- can't think of anything else Sad

Speaking of schedules, I need to put my puppy on one. It's been 2 months of puppy boot camp, and he still is having accidents. I really don't know what else to do.

Need to work on laundry, paperwork, home blessing today.

Have a wonderful afternoon everyone!

Joanna

Becky's picture

is that permitted?

I don't know much about campaigning; is it allowed when you are out-of-district?

Tonight is the beginning of Shavuot (the giving of the 10 Commandments). I don't usually do much for it but it is traditional to have dairy foods, so I'll try to do that for dinner-- mac and cheese, peas, and chocolate crepes. And milk, I guess.

Long To-Do List

Well, Wednesday is my day not to go into the office, so of course I have a very long to-do list. Thanks in part to DH, as usual. DD doesn't start back at preschool until next week, so I will be dragging her in and out on all of my errands as well. That's never fun when the temps are in the 90's! We both get hot and sweaty. Nope, sorry girls, I don't "perspire", I SWEAT!

So, today's PODA (mostly outside the house) looks to be:

* Take DD to my grandma's beauty shop so her friends can meet her
* Go with grandma to Sav-A-Lot (her idea)
* Call vet and pick up puppy if he's ready (has to be done before noon when their office closes)
* Make deposit at my credit union
* Make a Home Depot payment for office
* Check at McRaes and see if they have any more blouses in different colors on sale (I bought a black one Sunday that I LOVE)
* Take DH to pick up his truck (repaired to the tune of $650! - UGH!)
* Update checkbook
* Iron some clothes while DD naps
* Work on my menu plan/recipes project

I HATE errand-running days. Especially when DD will be in tow. Oh, well, it can't be helped. Nothing on my list is really optional today.

My menu plan/recipes project is this: I am taking a big file card box (5" x 8") with colored 5" x 8" cards. I have decided on seven categories of dinner entrees to coincide with the seven days of the week: pork, poultry, beef, crockpot, pasta, miscellaneous and family night (which usually means pizza or the like). For all categories except family night, I have assigned a card color. On the "cover card" for each category, the title is at the top with a list of entrees for that category listed underneath. Then, I am going to write the recipe for each entree on a coordinating color card behind it. I have dividers to put between each category for easy reference. Next, I am going to put my ABC dividers in place and make this my "hospitality" section. I plan to make a list of people to invite over in the next three months. I will make a card on each and write down what I serve so that I don't repeat dishes over and over. I have made the resolution to have people over before and not followed through. I intend to do better now.

My plan for menu setting and grocery list then goes like this: 1. check the grocery sales ads and jot down meats on sale 2. go to my cards and pick out an entree from each category to coincide with sales 3. pick side dishes for each entree 4. make grocery list based on plan. I am not assigning a specific day to each entree, but leaving it open so that I have some flexibility for schedule changes, personal preference, etc. Also, I didn't mention it, but I will also check my calendar and the family calendar to see if there are any nights we won't be here.

Also, the preschool DD will attend over the summer does lunch every day. Or, I should say, I send a sack lunch for her to eat every day. This has some good points, mainly that she'll be fed when I pick her up so I can bring her straight home to her nap. The bad side is, she doesn't like much that can be put in a sack lunch. We'll just have to experiment, I guess.

I've rambled on long enough, but I did want to post my TADAs from yesterday:

* Laundry - two loads
* Ran dishwasher and unloaded
* DD and I cleaned her playroom
* Started menu project

Well, I need to get going. It's almost time to get DD ready to go.

C-ya!

Sack lunches

Just a quick note: I am proof positive that children can grow up healthy and well adjusted even if they insist on eating the exact same thing for lunch every day for 15 years! Sticking out tongue

Eye-wink

Lenora
<--Who still prefers PB&J, raw carrots, and applesauce (NOT chunky!) to any other packed lunch!

Susannah's picture

Well, that's a relief, Lenora

PB&J is the only thing all my kids will eat, so we have it every day for lunch. I wish they'd eat raw carrots too. And they won't even all eat applesauce, only the eldest will.

As for me, one more bite of PB&J and I'll keel over. Bleach.

Vonnie, you've got a good plan for meals. It'll be nice, I'm sure, to start having dinner guests. I enjoy having people over but don't usually feel prepared for it...but you've got it covered. I think Family Fun.com has ideas for kid-friendly sack lunch recipes. You've got a busy day, and I don't envy you the heat. Yes, I sweat too. Smiling

I think it's okay if it's just stuffing-envelopes kinda stuff for an out-of-district candidate. There really aren't any races in-district that I'm interested in. (The districts are all wacked-out right now anyway because of the redistricting controversy.) This one is exciting because we're up against a long-time incumbent (at least, if the current redistricting stands). Even if it's not okay, I can still help her with the presidential campaign.

I was going to make Leanne's Lentil Stew last night, but found my cupboard was bare...of lentils anyway. I had assumed they were there. Never assume. Smiling So we had potato latkes and scrambled eggs for supper.

I messed up the PODA yesterday spending too much time on the computer, so I am NOT coming back to TNH until after the day is over!

PODA:
*Laundry
*Paper clutter
*Call friend to see if nursery is provided at play tonight

First things first, dress to shoes & face.

Last Wednesday of Punishment!

Next week, my Wednesday mornings become mine again!! Yes!! DD will be back in preschool (well, a new preschool since her fall one doesn't have a summer program) and I will have my Wednesday mornings to do what I need to do. I am so looking forward to it. Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter dearly, but it is sheer punishment to have to drag her in and out of a carseat while I run errands. And she doesn't like it, either. She will be in much better spirits when she's back into a routine, too.

Today's TADAs:

* Met grandma at Sav-A-Lot and got some good buys
* Made office Home Depot payment at store
* Browsed McRae's for top like one I already have, but they didn't have it
* Bought DH two polo-style shirts (his wardrobe is looking sad)
* Made deposit at bank
* Picked up sick puppy at vet
* Grocery store for dryer sheets & microwave pancakes

I called my MIL to ask her if BIL had made it to Italy ok. He had. We talked for a minute before she asked me if DD and I were coming to church tonight. I said, no, since there's no AWANA during the summer on Wed. nights, we weren't coming. She then proceeded to lecture me that Wed. nights would be when I needed to bring DD into the sanctuary and get her accustomed to sitting quiet and still through a service. She asked me if I was going to keep her in nursery (she doesn't go to the nursery, she just meant "children's programs") forever. I told her I'd let her go to them until she was a teenager if I could! I have a two-fold reason for not wanting to take her on Wed. nights: 1) I think it is rude to other people in the service to have a child who is being disruptive; I am not going to jump up & down taking her in & out and disturbing those who are trying to listen. and 2) I am TIRED. I work hard (she is rather lazy, IMHO) day in and day out, both at the office and at home. I do all of the housework, bill paying, shopping, cooking, etc. I schedule all of the dr. appts. and take DD, etc. etc. And forgive me, but I think I deserve the summer off from having to drag her to church on Wed. nights. We will resume going when AWANA starts back in the fall. MIL wasn't happy, but I have to keep telling myself, "so what?" She can't exactly DO anything about it. She also mentioned that she took all FIVE of her kids to church every service. Yea, and she had a husband to help her. My DH doesn't go on Wed. nights when he's working & when he's on day shift, he's too tired to go.

OK, so there's yet another MIL rant! I know I've mentioned here that DH just totally bows to MIL's every wish. It perturbs me that he will do what she wants to avoid an unpleasant situation with her, yet he could not care less about what I want because I don't rant & rave to get my way. So, when I told him about my conversation with his mother, he said well maybe he'd go with us when he's on day shift so he could help me with her --- now, he has not volunteered to take her for me all fall & winter while I was sick on Wed. nights because he was too tired. But, let his Mama turn up her lip about it & here he is all rarin' to go! No, I don't think so...

I sound like a lunatic in this post, so I'm gonna go. I'm really not even mad about it now. I am just going to employ DH's tactics when he doesn't want to do something, just smile and be quiet & do what I want to, anyway!!!

Y'all have a great evening. Sorry again for the rant.

hello Becky,,,we are doing the 3 day land 4 day cruise

Do you go often to Disneyland?

if you are like me you rarely get to enjoy things close by,,,Chicago for me,,,I have been to Navy Pier once and the Museum of science and industry 2 times first time I was 10 or so.Cubs once..never Sox,,the lake once

Becky's picture

can't afford Disneyland

The admissions price is high. Someday. I did go as a kid, when I didn't live here (but did have relatives here). I went to an Angels game last year, and also to the LA opera. DH went to a Simon and Garfunkel concert at the Staples Center in November.

When I lived in Michigan near Chicago for two years, I never went to a Cubs or Sox game although I would have liked to.

Is Wednesday night church a regular thing? My used-to-be-Southern-Baptist dad told me about it, but I don't think I've ever known him to go, nor my grandparents.

Best get at it.

Unsolicited Opinions

They can drive you bonkers, can't they? Smiling I live several states away from my in-laws, and they don't usually offer them anyway, thank goodness. Neither does my own mother for the most part. Your husband sounds like he has a passive temperament, like mine. It's probably easier for him not to rock the boat with his mom. Maybe employing his tactics will work. It's certainly easier on the BP. Eye-wink Just nod, smile, and go your own way. My dad used to drive us all crazy doing that.

I went to Disneyland twice, once as a 5yo and once as a 16yo. I have never been to Disney*World,* and I live one state away. Go figure. I have very early memories of the "Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room." A cruise sounds like sooo much fun! Have fun, Kitty. Smiling

Yes, Southern Baptists are big on being in church every time the doors are open. I attended Southern Baptist churches through my high school and college years, and Wednesday night attendance was expected, although it was not nearly as high as on Sunday mornings. In recent years, I have avoided any Wednesday night service that is a carbon copy of a Sunday service. Dull and pointless! If it's a genuine time of prayer, I'll go. If it's a home/small/cell group meeting, I'll go. If it's a potluck dinner, yes indeedy, I will go. You betcha. But I'm with Vonnie...no point in dragging the kids there for Sunday morning leftovers, just to jump through a religious hoop.

TA DA's:

Good Afternoon! Bought som

Good Afternoon!

Bought some books for SIL and baby at the bookstore, registered DH truck to the tune of $160...ouch,ate lunch, sorted mail, called friend and made plans for tomorrow. Need to wrap books, make a card, etc.
I think I will get a plaster kit from the craft sore. You know, the one that you stick the baby's foot and hand in the goop and when it hardens you can paint it and hang it on the wall or use it as astepping stone, etc. I think that would make a cute gift too.

Dinner,dinner...I think I will make breakfast for dinner. I am unmotivated in the food dept. today.

Susannah- has DH made any headway with the books? It made me think of a friend whose DH did something similar and she made the situation work to her advantage. She needed end tables, stacked the books, put a pretty tablecloth on them and there they sat.

I grew up in Florida and have been to Disneyworld about 3 or 4 times. I don't recommend it with real little ones and I don't recommend it in the heat of summer, other than that, it is a BLAST.

DD needs to take a nap,so off I go.

Catch you all later.

Oh, and Susannah, thanks for

Oh, and Susannah, thanks for explaining about the Wednesday night church thing. Is there some kind of religious reason it is Wednesday night? I suppose I could ask my dad but he probably does not know. There are short weekday services in traditional synagogues on Tuesdays and Thursdays or something like that. Might be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays-- at the time it was codified, those were the days everyone was in the center of the city (Baghdad and Jerusalem, I guess) doing the marketing, so they were all there anyway and the rabbis would gather everyone together and read part of the Torah assigned for that week to the illiterate masses.

Heidi this will be my third time to Disneyworld. You'd think I am crazy going in July but maybe it won't be so crowded then !

Susannah I just love the Tiki room and its a small world....nice and cool and calm and cute ,,,my kind of ride

my DH and DDs church has services on Sun morning Sunday night and Wed night,,,they used to go to all three but now just once on S and once on W. It is a 'christian' church

We always went to church Wednesday nights as a kid. I was raised Methodist, and there was a potluck, followed by a prayer service, followed by choir rehearsal. It was a ton of fun, and I wish we had that kind of regular positive community events for my kids now.

Have a good evening,

Well, my co-worker is in the hospital, trying to stop her premature labor. They're giving her meds to speed up the baby's lung development as well. She thinks she's going to come home this weekend, but I think she's going to have the baby. This may be TMI, but she was 3 cm dilated last night. Even if she does come home, she's going to be on bedrest, I would bet. I just hope everyone is OK. She's 31 weeks, 5 days along.

OK, I'm going to run. I am going to go sit on my deck and read my devotional.

Vonnie-hope your friend is doing better today with her preterm labor situation. i think after 34-36 weeks the lungs are developed enough? Am i right guys?

Weekend

Hi guys!

I agree Vonnie! Fortunately I get a 4 day weekend and it is badly needed,we have been WAY too busy.

Of course my PODA is quite long today, no time to post it all! It includes shopping though and buying and planting annuals for around our deck. Also mopping the kitchen floor, yuk.

Jo, I hope you are better soon. We have been hit hard with a virus, resulting in pneumonia for my dad, myself, and DS7. We are just now recovering from it - it lasted about 4 weeks. I'm glad you got the chance to stay in bed for awhile, that's probably what I should've done.

Have a great day everyone!

I finally re-subscribed

After about a year and a half of not getting the Flylady emails, I finally signed back up--my life begins today, you know.. Eye-wink ?

Vonnie--go get 'em girl--on the MIL thing. Do whatever it takes to keep YOUR OWN peace...not necessarily peace with her.

OK, I have to apologize, because I'm getting all the Jos and Joannes confused, but didn't the same DH lose the wallet twice this week?

Susannah, I was going to call you last night. Not sure if you still stayed up late...now I know you do! Be on the lookout for a ringie-dingie soon!

I also love the end table idea.

We also have Sunday night and Wednesday night church in PA--providing there are enough committed attendees to warrant a service. Wednesday night prayer meeting at my Presbyterian church is very small (maybe 6 people?) but they keep on plugging away. Wednesday night at my Baptist church (independent) is very well attended. It is much like the Sunday service, but with a very long prayertime--taking requests, etc.

Tonight I will shine my sink and do a proper swish and swipe in the bathroom (I long ago moved this to BBR instead of morning routine).

I'm glad that Friday is here too Vonnie! I'm doing the dance with you! Smiling
I hope that you and yours feel better soon Jo.
Julie- Do you polish your sink? I used the carwax idea and I wasn't too impressed. But then again my expectations may have been too high.
Have a lot to do today. DH coming in tonight at 11pm so I want to have the house done by the time he gets home so we can enjoy the weekend together! I miss him so much! OK enough feeling sorry for myself!
This Sat. We are going to my moms house for a surprise bday party. Its goimg to be fairly small (in the Mexican family sort of way) Just my moms kids and their families ( 12 total ) and some Aunts and their families (12-14 more)I don't know who else is coming as of now but the more the marrier right? We are going to have a seafood feast. ( My moms favorite) with Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, and Crab!!
MMMM I dont know what Im more excited for to see my mom (havent seen her since shes been back from Mexico) or the Seafood!!
Sunday and Monday we will probably start packing and looking into relocation information! From the looks of it (I dont want to Jinx this!) it looks like We will be moving by the middle to end of July.
Which one day sounds soooo far away but another day sounds so soon!
I need to visit Flylady to read up on Moving tips.
I hope you all have a wonderful, blessed, beautiful, peaceful day!

Hi Y'all!

Amee, it's so sweet how much you miss your DH. And your Mom & whole family. Smiling I love to hear about close families. Mine is pretty close, but small. Seafood, mmmmm.

Jules, I stayed up late, but unfortunately was doing it at Wal-Mart. You probably could have reached me about 1 a.m., when I finally got home, with baby (and groceries) in tow. You're a flybaby again! Congratulations!

Yay for Vonnie! Friday's like any other day for me, but I'm glad for all the WAH and WOH moms today.

I got a *very nice* package from the P.O. today. Eye-wink Full of fun stuff that I'm so going to enjoy reading through. I'm so glad you are up and around again, Jo. It sounds as if you had it bad. My heart goes out to you. Sad

I hope your spirits rise soon, Heidi. You usually seem so chipper. Think it's mostly the weather?

Well, we were up and out to Toccoa this morning, with the whole family since we couldn't find a sitter. We had to go to the lawyer to sign some papers. After that, I had to go to the social security office since I've lost my card. Then DH took off for work and home I went, with children very fussy. They went out to play when we got home, but it wasn't long before Elias was having another tantrum. I can't figure out why (at age 4) he still has these. Low-blood sugar, maybe? Or just the early afternoon grouchies? Anyhow I had to send him upstairs to finish it out. He was still crying when he came down, but at least he wasn't screaming. He was calm enough to eat lunch and that seemed to help him.

I did end up going to stuff envelopes last night, although I was an hour late (thanks to DH's late arrival home). But I think it helped for me to show anyway. Turns out I know this guy! He was a former student of my husband's. In fact, one part of his platform came straight from DH's ethics class, he said. Laughing out loud He's only 23 years old, hoping to run against a 20-yr. incumbent. Zowie! Emma was pretty good, even when held by someone other than mom. She went shopping with me afterward and was even good while sleep-deprived, poor thing. I always feel guilty keeping any of my children up late.

I looked at Trinidad on the globe I just borrowed from my mom for our history studies...it's really close to Venezuela! I didn't realize that.

P.S. Oh yes, about flying: I have so much laundry to do that I really have no business sitting at the computer. I'll let y'all know when I dig out.

Susannah's picture

Halfway through laundry

With not much sleep last night I'm a little snappy today. However, I'm trying my best to keep it in check.

I think I have two or three loads left. I've done some folding and putting away but had to stop for other things. I think that's what frustrates me about laundry...it's such a long process that I need lots of clear time to see it through.

Hope I didn't come across too negative about Wed. night services. I didn't mean that attending was mere religiosity; most of my life has been characterized by faithful attendance to weekday services and I think they can be worthwhile. Lately I've been more "needy," hence a greater emphasis on relationship in my life. Not trying to make that normative for everyone.

For some reason, the kids seem louder, whinier, more into things and more aggressive tonight. Or could it be that I'm less tolerant of it? Smiling

Gotta go serve the stew (which no one is likely to eat).

Love,

Susannah

Friday Evening Rambling

Yep, it's finally here - Friday evening! Yippee! DH is working night shift, so DD and I will go eat with him in cafeteria tonight. She thinks its a real treat to eat in the cafeteria. I ate in school cafeterias for 12 years, so not so much a treat to me!

Susannah, I can identify with your posts so much! I think DD has seemed whinier to me yesterday & today, but I have discovered it's because I had a visitor on the way -- yep, ole Aunt Flo showed up at my house yesterday. I am feeling much more even keel this evening, though. And laundry -- Lord, adopting DD didn't double our laundry, it tripled it! And with the pool set up now, it's even more! I keep reminding myself that one day soon she'll be grown & gone and all I'll have (besides my DH, of course) is housework. So for now, I do what is necessary and extra when I can, but for the most part I play with her when she wants me.

Wednesday night services have always been part of the churches I've attended (Free Will Baptist, Indy Baptist & now Southern Baptist), but not necessarily well attended at any. It's called Prayer Meeting at our church. The pastor gives a short sermonette and then takes prayer requests. Then, he asks a couple of men to pray for the requests and that's about it. But, since I'm not at all crazy about this pastor, I don't go into the service even when I take DD to AWANA. I feel I get enough of his sermons on Sunday mornings & evenings.

Well, I ended up keeping my niece this afternoon. My sister-in-law called because she took niece to doctor & didn't want to cart her all the way back across town and go back the other direction to work, then back again. I'm halfway between, so she came here. She's 3 years older than DD, but they had fun playing together.

So, today's TADAs:

* Worked 8:45 - 11:45
* Deposit at credit union
* Wal-mart run for pool shock & a few other things
* Laundry
* Worked a lot on menu project while niece was entertaining DD

My laundry is completely caught up, so maybe I can forego it until Monday. Actually enjoy a laundry-less weekend!?! We'll see!

At what age do you let your child take a bath unsupervised?

Well, a dreary cloudy day has turned into a dreary and cloudy evening. I hope we don't get rained on going to eat with DH. It never fails that about once every six weeks, it storms when I go.

Julie!!!! WELCOME HOME!!!! So glad to see your post from earlier today. We need to set up a time to IM again. I really enjoyed that. And, I know what you mean about weekends here. I still check in, though not as often as on weekdays. I'll be watching for you to post this weekend!

You gals have a great evening!

Becky's picture

still haven't answered one question though...

Does Wednesday have a special significance in Christianity? I should know this! It's part of my family (even went to Southern Baptist VBC the summer after sixth grade when I stayed with my grandparents), plus I went to an Episcopal high school, but I simply have no idea. Is it because of Ash Wednesday or something? I know the Sabbath was switched to Sunday for most Christians because Easter is Sunday, but did Jesus do something on a Wednesday that has a special meaning?

TADA:
-got the science projects out of the fridge.

That's it. I slept really late. But it's a lot! The fridge was icky!

I have to confess, I have not done much with Shabbat since we moved to this house in September. I never did unpack the Shabbat candles and candlesticks-- don't know where they are. I do have some scented candles and I will light them tonight and say the blessing. It's totally not kosher but better than nothing. Then we'll watch the Britcoms on PBS.

It's only 5:30, so I still have plenty of time to do some laundry and take out the trash.

Vonnie's picture

I Have No Idear!

But what Julie said sounds good to me. I have always figured it was on Wednesday because that's the "midpoint" of the week, hence it sometimes being referred to as "The Midweek Service".

Vonnie

emails!

Gosh, I had forgotten how many come in one day. Many of them, though, are things I really do need to take care of...clean car boogie, etc.

Amee, as far as the sink goes, I've only ever filled with hot water and a little bleach to soak, then drain and scrub with Comet/Ajax, then windex to shine. After that it's just a daily quickie swish with the brush and dish liquid, followed by the windex. Car wax sounds like a good thought, though.

Turns out I didn't do any of it. I went to Curves after work, and the owner's daughter was working, finishing at 6 p.m. She hadn't had dinner, so we went to the Outlet Mall (bought Bday gift for chocolate boss), then to the steakhouse for supper. Got home around 10 p.m., so I just got on here to check in. Well, I did make tomorrow's iced tea and started a load of sheets to hang out in the morning. That's as far as the TADA goes.

Whatever happened to Mike?

Yes, Vonnie and Susannah...let's talk.

YIKES! There's my "go to bed" email. I guess I'll do something out of character and obey.

Sweet dreams!

I'm getting really excited ab

I'm getting really excited about my menu/recipe project. So much so that I think I need to find a name for it. What I am most excited about is having everything in one handy place to plan my menu for the week and grocery list. Speaking of which, I did a customized grocery list on an excel spreadsheet and then a "plan sheet" for lack of a better term on which I put the days of the week, any calendar plans that affect our meal plan, and then a space for the meal plan that day. I am still giving myself flexibility in what we have each day, though. I took these two pages and made front & back copies at work so they're on one handy sheet. After I go to the grocery store, I post the sheet with the plan side showing on my fridge. So far on my menu project, I have recipes written out as follows: beef - 3; crockpot - 6; miscellaneous - 4; pasta - 4; pork - 0; and poultry -3. It's taking me some time to pull my faves from my cookbooks, magazine cut-outs, Taste of Home mags, etc. etc. But, I hope to make big progress this weekend.

Well, DD got me up at 6 a.m., so I am on my second cup of coffee and it's just a little after 7. I don't mind too much, though. These early mornings are sweet with her. She's coloring in her coloring books while Mama works on her project. She's really a little sweetheart. I think I'm finally settling in to my Mama role. Even though I cherish being a Mom and have wanted this for years, it has really been a struggle some days to adjust to this new life. It's a great life, but such a change. It's the little things that have changed the most: running to Wal-Mart at the drop of a hat; doing errands take on a whole new meaning; going to the bathroom with an audience (other than my bichon), etc.

My PODA is not going to be much today, as I want to work on my project, play with DD and hopefully get to get in the pool.

* Laundry - just DH's uniforms (and he doesn't go back to work until Tuesday, so if I wait until Monday it's still OK; may SLUG this one!)
* Pick out menu for week and get meats at grocery store
* Iron my wrinkled clothes so I'll have anything I want to pick in the mornings next week

Jules, I know what you mean about the emails. I still get them, but in digest form. I tend to read the zone challenges and testimonials only. I really want to get back into following my emails and doing zone cleaning after DD starts back to preschool next week. Her nap time is PERFECT for doing these types of things. I can do most anything except vacuum whilst she sleeps.

Well, I'm going to go get back to my recipes. I am getting motivated to cook different dishes again & maybe plan to have someone over next weekend as well.

Y'all have a good one!

Saturday Morning

Wow, Vonnie, you really are excited about your new system. That's great! I can't wait till I've got my new home so I can be excited about some new systems. It's so sweet to see you doing the Mom thing. Guess it'll be you and me this weekend, huh? I downloaded a new version of IM last night, so I'm ready to rock and roll! Sticking out tongue

So, Flylady, hmmm. Well, I can tell you this much: I'm not getting dressed to shoes until I have my own house. Mom's DB lives here with us Monday-Friday. Think about what that means...each and every time I pass from my room to the bathroom right across the hall, I have to have clothes on and I have to shut both doors behind me twice in order to accomplish something that usually takes 12 seconds. It has to be 11:00 at night before I can go to the kitchen in my big towel. You'd better believe that when they're at his house on the weekends, I'm running around in nothing but a tank top and underwear--just because I CAN! Please excuse the nasty visual Shocked

OK...I'm going to list my entire weekend PODA here, since I don't really have a concrete daily plan.

Pick up battery charger I ordered
Post office
Take garbage out
Change/wash bedding & hang on the line
Wash misc laundry
Pack some more boxes
Organize the garage
Treadmill once each day
Chocolate work
University work
Other work
Clean my bathroom
Possible cosmetics order?
Ironing
27 Fling
Clean car
Dishwasher
Stupid picnic at my Dad's

So, I'd best get at it.

Good Morning!

Well,DD and I are out the door in about 30 minutes to go to the shower. I even painted her fingernails and toenails for the occasion!

Thanks,Susannah, for the concern regarding my funk yesterday. I feel better today. DH and I and the kids went out to dinner last night and walked around the craft store. My DH is worse than a woman in that craft store! I had to pry him out of there...he was looking for stained glass etching stuff for a glass insert of a back door.

DS is going to a bowling bday party this afternoon and DH gets to chauffeur back and forth for a change.

Check in later.

Vonnie's picture

It Occurred To Me

while working on my menu project that I needed several cooking implements. Some, I didn't have at all; some I had but they were in bad shape; and others I just want to make things a little easier. So many parts of my life are hard work, I don't think it's asking too much for a little convenience where it can be afforded. So, I went to target and bought:

* A small soup pot with lid (I had a very large stock pot)
* A 9"x13" baking dish
* A 8"x8" baking dish
* A set of 3 small mixing bowls (again, I have huge ones that take up so much room in the dishwasher & it seems a waste when I'm only mixing something small)
* A good cookie sheet
* A pizza cutter (I had been using a knife and have cut myself before)

So, splurge, splurge, splurge! For so many years, our home has been set up for looks and not function. Well, I am slowly but surely making changes in the kitchen and in the bathroom & laundry rooms that make them FUNCTIONAL. If I'm the one who's doing the work, I am going to make them work for me, not me for them!

DD is not being particularly good today. She's been off of a normal schedule for almost two weeks now & boy is her personality showing it! Tuesday we start back to preschool, so things should get back to "good normal" as I call it.

Oh, I made a lemon meringue pie this morning. I've never done one before, so who knows how it will turn out! I know that I didn't beat the meringue long enough because it's not tall enough. Maybe it will be edible, though.

It's a holiday weekend, so I'm suspending my twice a day posting rule. I'm gonna post as often as I like. I'm "OFF"!!!

Shopping!!

Hi all!

Yes Joanne, you are right! I live south of Rochester in a small town and love it! I have not shopped much near Syracuse, but I know that there are some great outlets between here and there on the thruway - I-90. I think it's called the Waterloo Premium Outlets. Now that I'm looking, I see that it is halfway between Rochester and Syracuse - maybe 45 minutes from Syracuse, so maybe too far for you on your trip. I've heard that the prices are very good though. There is also the Carousel Mall in Syracuse. Hmmmmm, you've got me thinking about those outlets!

Just got back from a casual dinner with DH - I had the fried seafood platter and fries. Yum! My parents have the kids for the night which is very nice! Unfortunately DH is rather crabby and tired, so it's kind of a bummer. I may stay up and read my book!

Have a great evening everyone -

Peace

I have had almost 3 hours of peace & quiet this evening. DH took DD fishing with my FIL. I didn't really feel like going since all I ever get is mosquito-bit! I attract those suckers (pardon the pun) from miles away!

Sat out by the pool this afternoon and got a little more color. I'm trying to do it slow & easy so I don't damage my skin any more than necessary. DD played in the pool a little when she got up from her nap. I went to our local Christian bookstore and bought a book to read.

I've logged about 15 recipes into my system today. Makes me excited about cooking them, though. I need to start thinking about what I'm going to feed the fishers tonight, too.

Well, I'd better run. I'll talk to you all later!

Happy Sunday

Well, today is the day for the stupid picnic at my dad's. Last night I made a pound cake, and got creative by putting in some chopped fresh cherries and some chopped walnuts, then used almond extract instead of vanilla. We'll see.

I also made some macaroni salad, and I seasoned a small sirloin steak to take along. I assume they'll be having hamburgers and hotdogs, which I can't eat, so I can throw my meat on the grill.

I decided to go to church. I haven't been on Sunday morning in a long time. With the Baptist church so handy I managed to catch some Sunday evening and Wednesday evening services, but I've been very selfish with my Sunday mornings since I've been working so much and it's one of the only times that Mother's not here and I have the house to myself.

Gma lives near dad. I'll stop and see her, too. I need to return the binoculars I borrowed for Gary's commencement.

I'll wait till tonight to list TADAs. I've got a few but not as many as I should... Sticking out tongue

Congrats on the plunder, Vonnie. I LOVE kitchen stuff.

Will check back later!

Good Morning! My computer

Good Morning!

My computer is so slow today, must be time to clean out the cookies as they say.

The shower was really nice. SIL received many wonderful gifts and all the little girls had fun chasing each other all around the place. Next up is the baptism in 2 weeks in which DH will be named godfather. Need to get a gift this week for that as well.

Jul- why is the picnic at your dad's stupid? Sounds like a nice idea or did I miss something?

Vonnie-did you come up with a clever name yet for your meal system? How about "Menu Mania" or "Dinner Dynamics"?

How is everyone else? We may cookout tomorrow and go to our old neighborhood to see the parade, all depends on the weather though as it is supposed to rain.

PODa today involves reading Sunday paper, showering, and general lazing around. sounds good to me...

Hey, I know I'm kind of here and gone again. I plugged into this years ago, was active for a while, but have been busy. I don't know how may people have been around and might remember me. My computer was so slow before it was more of a pain to hook up. Now I have cable access, so I hope to keep the forums running. I really need some cyber kicks in the franny to keep moving. My DH has a demanding job that keeps him busy most of the hours of the day, so I'm stuck at home with three little boys and a house that is falling apart and getting more cluttered by the day.

SO my one goal for today is to get my head back in this game. Get an idea of what routines even are nowdays. I can hardly remember what it was like to have routines, but it was very nice.

I'll stay logged in. I'll check out the other groups, too, see where I may fit now. But, if anyone remembers me, please get with me if I slack or don't post. I'm serious. I need to get back into this.

More later...

Karin...woohoo!

I'm sooo glad you're back, lady! I just resurfaced myself this week. Actually, I've had some emails from you at my work address, but the virus protector blocks them all...any ideas? Kick, Kick, Kick...how's that?

Heidi, the picnic at my dad's is stupid because:
A) I simply hate picnics...I'll bet you anything we have to sit out in the hot sun with the flies and the yellow jackets, when they have a perfectly nice covered deck and carport where we could be sheltered. I also hate the idea of "oh, it's Memorial Day, let's have a picnic", just because it's the 'thing to do'. I'm very non-conformist that way. Now, if you want to invite me on June 22 because my uncle is in from out of town, THERE'S a GOOD reason to suffer through the picnic scenario.
B) This is my step family. I don't have any REAL problems with them, except for the fact that my dad did not give us a chance to get to know one another naturally. Instead he forced us all down each other's throats (we were all over 25 when they were married, BTW), which only served to make us cranky about the whole thing.
C) This family are very poor planners. I guarantee you that I've skipped lunch after church for this 2:00 picnic, and we'll probably not eat until 3:30. Oh, and someone else will have been told 1:30, and someone else will have been told 3:00.

I know I've got an attitude problem, but it's mine and you can't have it!! Big grin

Seriously, I do attend other winter-time indoor family functions cheerfully (mostly). I just hate picnics.

Must run!

KARIN!!!!

I am so glad to see you checking in! I've missed you! Everytime I see you on my contact list, I wonder about you. How have things been for you lately? Boys doing well?

Jules, let us know how the Stupid Picnic went. Maybe you won't broil.

Oh, that reminds me that we have a church picnic next week.

Vonnie, way to go on getting organized in the kitchen! I can testify, it's so nice to have the menus all made out. Been doing it the lazy way with Leanne's book. It's more costly, though. But I suppose if I actually *planned* a recipe a night and shopped for ingredients + side dishes, it would cost as much. At least she plans veggies in season, etc. and I know we're eating more healthily. Is that a word?

Becky, thanks for the great idea. Now I have another use for those nice new kitchen shears my mother gave me.

Our big Chuck-E-Cheese bash was yesterday and everyone seemed to have fun. With my four and all our friends we ended up with 16--that's a good sized party! Now I can say I did it (and have a good excuse for not doing it again). But it *was* fun--not super cheap, but fun. Smiling My mother's helping me pay for it as her gift to the girls.

Meanwhile, somebody seems to have broken in and wrecked my house. Oh, wait, that was us.

I'm still not out from under laundry. I'm one of those SHE's who needs an entire day clear to get all the way through it. I'm already moving backwards in the laundry process again...piles to be folded while the dirty stuff piles up. I HATE that!

Well, I've had my lunch/supper (we get home late from church so it's only 2 meals on Sunday). Now it's time to apply Jul's cyber-kick to *my* franny.

Love y'all!

P.S.

Speaking of long-lost fly-buddies, has anyone heard from Bronwyn/Cari Anne lately? I've been wondering about her too.

Hello. :)

Well, Julie, I do believe there was a virus attached to my MSN program. I have since cleared it out and have a good scan. I was working some heavy file sharing with people I do know, and opened something I expected was a file, from someone I know, w/out much thought. Bam, hit by the bagel virus, I think. I'm not the pro at this, but I have some awesome virus and firewall protection now, shouldn't be a problem in the future. But I have switched carriers, even deleted the address book in my old program. Printed them all out, then deleted them. I manually type them in now, or use cut and paste from a saved word doc for my group mailings. It was explained to me that the virus used my address book to spread.

Wow, I felt like crying, hearing back so soon from you guys. Things are going okay here, but I'm killer busy. I have DS5 (deaf with cochlear implant), DS3 (selectively hearing...), and DS1 (deaf, with a brand new cochlear implant). And DS1 is gross motor delayed due to malformed inner ears and massive ear infections. Soooo.... when I have a free moment, do I tackle Mt. Laundry or do physical/communication therapy with the boys?

I NEED to menu plan. I NEED to stop doing laundry once a week. It becomes wasted time. At least now I've found a dairy that delivers milk and eggs at a reasonable price, and will get a box of seasonal produce a week at a good price, too. MUCH better than shopping with the boys, getting things I don't need, and stuff going bad in the fridge (two month old carrots...). I can keep staple dry goods, canned and frozen goods (meat, too) on hand, and plan menus around the produce we get.

I've since found a thrift shop that has an excellent selection of books, and decent toys for great prices. It's also been a good place for the boys to go shopping with me, to practice behaving. I call it my "shopping therapy", to go there and find a nice book or something else. At a low cost.

Well, I need to get going. I LOVE the higher speed internet. I will try very hard to keep plugged in to this now. Just hearing from you two, even seeing Vonnie's name up top, really cool. I need to purge and build routines. Today is my day to figure out what I need to do. Start with basics.

More later--Karin

Hi Karin!

Yes Karin, of course we remember you! Welcome back! Sounds like things are still hoppin' at your house!

Well, I am really excited because I just got back from PBKids buying the stuff to decorate DD7's room with!!! We are going with the Navigator theme (sailboats, etc). DH just finished painting it a slate blue color today with glossy white trim. It looks so good!

Just had to share!

Sounds like everyone is havin

Sounds like everyone is having a great day today [hope yours turned out OK, Jules]. DD came running over to me at the computer because the "I Love You" song was playing on the Barney video she was watching. We had do the "kiss" and hug and hold hands and sway like the kids on the video. I swear, that song used to just grate on my nerves pre-DD. Now, I just melt when DD sings it to me! What a pushover I am!!!

Romper Room hellos to everyone! And hey again, Karin. Glad to see you checking in with us.

It's been a good albeit lazy day here. Went to Sunday School and church this morning, then out to eat with the inlaws afterwards. Home and DD took a 3 hour nap (she needed it!). I floated in swimming pool for an hour and a half, but the sun kept getting covered by dark clouds and since the water is still cold, I couldn't take it so I came in. And I took a two hour nap! Bliss!I feel so much better now.

Tomorrow we go to my Mom's for a cookout. She has a pool set up for the kids to play in so DD will have a blast.

Well, I need to go and see what I'm going to rustle up for dinner. I am craving a chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell, but we'll see. DH probably won't want to get anything out. It's easy for him to want to eat at home because he doesn't do any of the cooking or cleanup. Oh, well!

C-ya!

Susannah!

I just has the best laugh from your "somebody broke in and wrecked the house" comment. OK, I am still laughing. I have felt exactly that way so many times and never managed to put it in quite so humorous terms. You crack me up girl!

No flying today, busy running(literally). The house is wrecked, but at least we have some of tomorrow to fix it. Sad

Thanks for the good thoughts on the race guys. It stunk. Big time. Well, the last part of it did, the first two-thirds were super. At least now I'm done and can have some semblance of a normal life again. At the moment I am living for June 12th when school is out and I can be a SAHM again!!!!Whoo-hoo!

I need to go shower some scum off of me and go lie down. So, I'm off to do the grandma shuffle toward the bathroom. It will take me at least 3 minutes to get there...

Have a great evening.

Lazy Weekend

Hi all! Having a pretty lazy week/end here in big "D". Got caught up on laundry and bills, but housecleaning is truly pathetic. The weekly blessing hour is always put off, somehow.

Vonnie: glad you got a break! Also, the thought of taking DS3 to service is pretty scary... He's a good boy, but there's only so much you can expect from a 3 year old child. The nursery is so much more fun for him. I don't want him to dread going to church later on.

DS3 went to my mom's yesterday, and skipped nap 2 days in a row. He just fell asleep while eating a snack in his little chair, so I put him to bed for the night (at 6 pm!!!). Hopefully, we won't have an early morning visitor.

Puppy pooped in his crate last night. My fault for letting him have his blankie overnight. This definitely fits under the heading "no good deed goes unpunished". At least not with an un-housebroken puppy Smiling

DH is working today and tomorrow, so I'm going to go to mom's tomorrow, and putter at her house. It's so much more fun than working on my own projects.

I'm feeling a little at loose ends lately. I expected to be 8 months pregnant at this time. I've been fine the past several weeks, but now, for some reason, the crib is bothering me. Maybe I should just disassemble it, and use the pack and play when friends' babies are here. The sight of it bothers me. I think I might sign up for some heavy duty volunteer work or something...

Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Joanna

julhome's picture

Wowie!

What great company for a holiday weekend, and Vonnie and I thought we were going to be here all alone!

Oh Karin, your grocery/thrift store finds sound like sheer heaven..that's really super!

Joanne, I say if the crib is bothering you, then you should tear it down. Storage is a wonderful invention. You made me smile talking about DS falling asleep in his chair. That is one thing about little boys in the summer, right? They will fall asleep, sticky and filthy dirty, any place they happen to stop moving. ADORABLE!

DD's decor plans sound lovely, Andrea. I don't blame you for wanting to share ASAP.

Susie, you're making me laugh, too. Prepare for the phone to ring!

Two-hour nap sounds great, Vonnie. I ended up running around all day.

Well, I did survive the stupid picnic. I was swearing under my breath the whole way there, prepared for a knock-down drag-out with anyone I could find. When I got out of the car (yes, we WERE in the hot backyard instead of the cool carport), I audibly said to myself "be nice! Lord, please help me to be nice." And it worked. I made a date with one stepsister, and even had an amicable discussion with the other stepsister about something that has been a very touchy powder keg situation for several years. Healing has begun already. Aside from a bit of sunburn on my shoulder, I actually had a nice time.

Then, I went to Gma's to return Gpa's binoculars. Gave her some leftovers and had a nice visit. She sent me home with green onions, leaf lettuce, dill, parsley, and sage all from her garden.

Then I went to see Gma's sister. Gma is 85, and this sister is only 65. I had a WONDERFUL time for THREE HOURS there! I got to talk through some of my church quandry with her.

So, tell me, do I really care that my PODA went to pot?

Night all!

Happy Monday!

Andrea, I started painting my boys' room (all three in one room) just after Christmas. Similar colors, but more of a space theme. Your note is really encouraging me to finish. Thanks!

Vonnie, way cool to hear about DD!!!!!

Hey, my Flybaby plan for the day is to keep the sink clean and finish Mt. Laundry. Anything else is gravy. Oh, yeah, I'll probably have to feed, dress and take care of the kiddos. I let them stay up until the wee hours last night, so now I'm enjoying a quiet morning. Can't wait until summer is finally here!

Did a bit of yardwork yesterday. Built trellises for the peas and berries, planted a bunch of seedlings from the green house. I have a ton of leftover plants I have to share with people. That's the fun part of growing the plants. When the weather is bad, I do the "shopping therapy" at my thrift shop. When it's nice, we're in the yard getting some "gardening therapy". I need a bunch of therapy these days...

Good Morning! Karin-I do r

Good Morning!

Karin-I do remember you, glad to "see" you back on board! I,too, do the thrift store therapy from time to time. Amazing when you find brand new things for pennies sometimes.

Jul-glad that the stupid picnic didn't turn out so stupid after all. Attitude is a powerful thing.

Andrea- I have seen the aviator theme from PBkids in a catalog and it does look neat.

Hello to all ....

Today is cool, dark ,and about to pour so we will not attempt going to the parade. I never told the kids about it so at least now they won't be disappointed. DH may take DS to see Shrek 2 and I am trying to get my mom to do something today with DD. My DD is 3 and has not had a day away from me yet. I mean, here and there for a few hours at atime and that is it. Preschool will be good for that this fall but I guess I am getting a little in need of a break. I get alittle envious of friends when they tell me how their parents take the kids for whole weekends. My DS9 gets to do that fairly often with family but no one has done that for DD. And DD is the more relaxed, easygoing child!!??

Sorry for the mini rant...back to the regularly scheduled program.

PODA
laundry
weed flower bed between raindrops
run dw and reload
convince Mom to take DD somewhere
read paper
read book(Bee Season)
pay bills
dinner

We have some sparklers and smoke bombs and such from last 4th of July so after supper we may do that with the kids if the weather holds. Also a game of croquet or bocce ball.

Have a good one,all.

Moving

Good-Afternoon everyone,

Heidi, we are being transferred to Trinidad in the Caribbean probably moving sometime in Aug. It will a change for us we have been moved many times before especially when our children were young we had not planned on this but it is a super opportunity for DH. and we just felt that we could not say no! Our last warm transfer was Libya which was dreadful! Trinidad looks quite nice we have been on-line looking at some rental houses DH thinks we should go into a flat but they seem to look like a hotel to me I like country and very homey!

Now the big jobs will come for me sorting through what to keep and what to pass on. Our basement is a nightmare I think I should invite Flylady for a holiday here in my house lol it really is bad!!

We will leaving our DS who will continue at school and our very spoiled Yorkie he would have to in isolation for six months I don't think he would do well there. Our DD is very exicited to move she will go to a International school there.

PODA-
Today is a holiday here so this list is quite small:

-laundry (on-going)
-family meeting about our next month
-dinner (we are going out to a local Pasta place so we will have no disturbance while we talk)
-talk a look at the next week
-remember 15 min. at a time

I am so glad to be able to have somewhere to write about this it makes it easier to have accounatability and I get encouraged by all of you!

Have a nice afternoon sorry this is such a long post I hope it is not too boring.

Good Morning

Good Morning everyone,

Susannah, I like that saying "get with the plan", I think I will write it on a stickey note and put it a few places in my house and van! I think I could use it alot with my children and husband in the next few months.

PODA
-run dishwasher this morning
-make a few calls (including surgeon to see if DH can change his gall-bladder surgery date to earlier)
-dinner plan chicken fried rice with fresh veggies
-out today with a dear friend I have to break the news we are moving!
-laundry on-going
-remember 15 min. at a time we can do anything
-anything else that pops up

Better run and start flying, Vonnie you always seem to get me motivated! We finally have a nice decent day here so that helps and we have a huge hockey game on T.V. this evening Tampa Bay vs the Calgary Flames (hockey) we will eat dinner in front of the T.V. and cheer!!!

Have a great day !

Good-morning

Good-Morning,

Late start today, I was helping DD study for a science test and I will drive her over to school in a few minutes. I am not even posting a list today because I won't even get to it and I don't want to be discouraged! I am going to Staples today and I am going to pick a note book to keep all my lists together instead of little notes everywhere, things will be in one place. I can write down numbers etc.

I had a interesting call this morning I had to call the new high school where DD will attend (The International School) and the admissions officer had such a lovely accent. We are planning to go to house hunt last week of June. School starts there Aug.25th so time will fly !!! DH will have his gall-bladder surgery on June 10th after he has spent 3 days in South America. I can feel a little stress coming on sorry to sound like such a whinner.

Better run take care all

Joanne

Good-Morning

Good-Morning,

Up and flying this morning sunny day here :

PODA:

-drive DD to school
-laundry already on the go
-dishwasher loaded
-set dinner plan (another hockey game tonite so we eat while watching)
-iron
--bought scribbler for list for the move (put into action) what was you said the other day Susannah "get with the plan" I am keeping that in mind!

Vonnie please let us know how you menu system works out. Heidi I really like your idea for the shower gift I know how special it to recieve books. I always think it is so nice to sign the inside of the book with a special note and the date. My children have kept those gifts and it is so nice to know what special occasion they were given for.

Have good day everyone

Joanne

I doubt there's anything like

I doubt there's anything like *that* kind of time-honored tradition behind it. Smiling I think it's just "middle of the week booster shot" kinda thinking. Our homegroup meets Wednesday nights, but I think it's just arbitrarily chosen...if it worked better another night for everybody it'd be another night. I guess around here people just tend to have Wed. night clear.

Lark's picture

Good evening

Hi everyone,

Not much here today, I have busy with lists etc. But I feel like I am through things without that panic feeling inside. I feel bad about leaving our church, my daughters high school but I think this will be a good move my DH is very exicted and his job will be a challenge for him so he wil be happy.

One of my good friends is coming to help sort the basement I don't think I will be able ever thank her enough!!!!! I told her to plan to come to Trinidad at spring break. Susannah I know, Trinidad is so close to South America! We are planning to go there in June the last week I think. I love to travel so we will see.

Take care all

Joanne

Wednesday

OK...to the best of my knowledge...

Ash Wednesday is only Wednesday because Lent is 40 days long, and has to end on Easter which is always Sunday. Therefore it begins on Wednesday.

However, Ash Wednesday/Lent is most significant to Catholics, Lutherans, then Presbyterians etc., in that order. Since we are mainly discussing Baptists and similar denominations with regard to Wednesday night, I would say that it has very little (if any) relation at all to the church calendar. Baptists are generally very non-liturgical. I think that it's only Wednesday night by tradition because it falls mid-week, providing for a reasonable spacing between Sundays.

If anyone has corrections/suggestions...please pipe up. I've got limited information here.

hi

Hi everyone,

Good-luck on your marathon Jo hopefully your weather will be right. Vonnie I have slowly replaced things in my kitchen I now say that I need the right tools to do my job properly. What a nice difference it makes, small things!!!

Andrea,I remenber you saying once that you were in upstate New York (I could very well be confused)I think we will be in Syracuse in Aug. do you know anything about the shopping? We have family in the east that we will visit before moving.

Not much flying today my bed isn't even made! We have a important hockey game to watch this evening DD and I are going to a friends to watch she makes the best nibble food.

Have a good evening

I've Never Thought of That!

Wednesday Church

I would imagine "Wednesday" church has some corelation to "Ash Wednesday" which is a traditional day of penitence/confession/reflection/prayer....I don't have any proof-positive, but I would bet there is a link.

Syracuse

Joanne, I live about an hour north of Syracuse. The Carousel Mall is just off of I-81. It's pretty nice. I must admit I'd rather go to Ottawa for my big shopping trips, even though it's further away.
Congratulations on the Flames' big win last night Smiling
